Herein, Mn-doped carbon dots (Mn-CDs) were prepared and used as a reducing agent to reduce PtCl 6 2− to platinum nanoparticles (Pt NPs), forming a stable nanozyme of Mn-CDs@Pt NPs. The prepared Mn-CDs@Pt nanozyme exhibited high oxidase-like activity toward the oxidation of 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) with a low Michaelis-Menten constant ( K m ) value of 0.0545 mM and a high maximum initial velocity ( V max ) value of 3.42 × 10 −7 M s −1 . By exploiting the excellent oxidase-like activity of Mn-CDs@Pt nanozyme and combining the thiol-ene Michael addition between glutathione (GSH) and acrylamide (AA), a sensitive colorimetric detection interface for AA was fabricated. Using UV–vis measurement, the colorimetric sensor for AA detection displayed a broad linear detection range from 0.05 to 5000 μM and a detection limit (LOD) of 0.0371 μM. In addition, a smartphone-assisted detection of AA yielded a linear range from 5 to 5000 μM with an LOD of 4.35 μM. The colorimetric sensor was applied for AA detection in real samples, achieving satisfactory recoveries in the range of 94.8–110.4%. Moreover, the detection results of AA in real samples were in good consistency with those detected using the standard method of HPLC, suggesting that the proposed colorimetric method possesses potential for AA detection in food safety and quality monitoring.

To improve CdS photocatalytic activity , both Cu x Cd 1- x S nanorods and Cu 2 S@CdS p-n heterostructures have been prepared with a simple solvothermal method . The results showed that the maximum H 2 generation rate is equal to 10 mmol h −1 g −1 and 12.1 mmol h −1 g −1 for samples 0.3-Cu 2 S@CdS and Cu 0.1 Cd 0.9 S, respectively, which are nearly 9 and 12 times larger than that of CdS (1.2 mmol h −1 g −1 ) without using Pt as the co-catalyst. The measurements of the light absorption revealed that the samples Cu 2 S@CdS p-n heterostructures and Cu x Cd 1- x S nanorods have an increased visible light absorption. Band structure revealed that Cu 2 S@CdS p-n composite is a type-II heterostructure, which facilitates the separation of photoexcited charge carriers . Furthermore, as the Cu-doping CdS introduced a defect level , which induced the increase of carrier density, and the defect energy level in Cu 0.1 Cd 0.9 S and the band energy in CdS form a type-II heterostructure. Due to the appropriate band structure and stronger light absorption, Cu 2 S@CdS p-n heterostructures and Cu + -doping CdS demonstrated an improved photocatalytic activity and stability.

Selective hydrogenolysis of abundant C–O bonds of β-O-4 linkages in natural lignin or lignin models has been considered as a key strategy for the generation of value-added organic chemicals. Herein, we report a mild, efficient, and selective photocatalytic strategy for hydrogenolytic cleavage of lignin β-O-4 models by using Ni-containing polyoxometalate (POM) catalysts and CdS quantum dots. Upon blue LED light irradiation, the present photocatalytic system can effectively transform various lignin β-O-4 models to the corresponding hydrogenolysis products (phenols and ketones) with >95% conversion and >93% product selectivity. A tentative photocatalytic mechanism is proposed based on various experimental and spectroscopic analyses. The facile strategy presented in our work could be extended to the photocatalytic preparation of various value-added chemicals from natural biomass or other biomass derivatives in the near future.

PCR-based techniques routinely employed for the detection of mutated linear DNA molecules, including circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA), require large nucleotide sections on both sides of the mutation for primer annealing. This means that DNA fragments with a mutation positioned closer to the extremities are unlikely to be detected. Thus, sensors capable of recognizing linear DNA with characteristic mutations closer to the ends would be advantageous over the state-of-the-art approaches. Here, an electrochemiluminescence-resonance energy transfer (ECL-RET) biosensor comprising capped CdS quantum dots and hairpin DNA probes labeled with Au nanoparticles was developed for the detection of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) ctDNA carrying the critical T790M lung cancer mutation. The ECL-RET system detected different DNA molecules including single-stranded 18-nucleotides (nt) and 40-nt as well as double-stranded 100-nt with the single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) coding for T790M located either in the middle or only 7 nt from one end. For all target DNA, the sensor’s limits of detection (LODs) were in the aM range, with excellent selectivity. It was the case of 100-nt target linear ctDNA fragments with LODs of 8.1 and 3.4 aM when the EGFR T790M SNP was either in the middle or at the end, respectively. These results show that ECL-RET systems can sense mutations in DNA fragments that would remain undetected by standard techniques.

Carbon dots (CDs) are versatile nanomaterials with tunable luminescent properties. We used a natural plant kaempferol as a carbon source to synthesize multicolor CDs by reacting it with various nitrogen sources. Blue, green, and red CDs (B-CDs, G-CDs, and R-CDs) with emission wavelengths of 445 nm, 510 nm, and 600 nm respectively were successfully synthesized. Their photoluminescence quantum yields of are up to 37.4%, 20.1%, and 30.8%, respectively. Surface analysis revealed abundant nitrogen groups influencing luminescence. B-CDs and G-CDs show excitation-dependent emissions, indicating a potential correlation between their luminescence and particle sizes, while R-CDs exhibit excitation-independent emission, suggesting they belong to molecular state CDs. All three CDs exhibit stable luminescent performance, as well as good salt resistance and photobleaching resistance. The practical application of multicolored CDs in anti-counterfeiting fluorescent inks was further explored. This work offers a straightforward, eco-friendly route to synthesize multicolor CDs.

The selective breaking of the Cβ–O bond has great potential for the conversion of lignin into high-value aromatic monomers. In the present work, we designed a CdS–SH/TiO2 heterojunction photocatalyst for the efficient selective breaking of the Cβ–O bond. The surface modification of CdS by –SH promoted close contact between the catalyst and lignin and further promoted the Fermi level matching with TiO2. A type-II heterojunction was constructed by CdS–SH and TiO2 nanosheets to enhance the light absorption range and further increase the separation of photogenerated electron–hole pairs, resulting in high catalytic activity. Finally, 85% phenol and 87% acetophenone yields were obtained under mild light irradiation using 2-phenoxy-1-phenylethanol as the model substrate. Several control experiments, along with DFT calculations, indicate that the reaction pathway is more likely to involve the oxidation of Cα–OH to form Cα═O initially, followed by the activation of Cβ–O, which is then reduced to further form aromatic monomers. This work achieves the efficient selectivity of lignin depolymerization and provides a reference for the design of heterojunction photocatalysts in the valorization of lignin.

In this work, pure and homogeneous Ni incorporated CdS photocatalyst was prepared by vulcanization of ZIF material synthesized from Cd/Ni salt by solvothermal method . The prepared pure CdS photocatalysts by the vulcanization of ZIF material exhibits better catalytic activity due to its larger specific surface area. The introduction of Ni can further improve the hydrogen production activity. The effect of Ni incorporating amount and annealing temperature on the hydrogen production activity of CdS photocatalyst was researched systematically. The photocatalytic activity at 10 % Ni incorporated CdS sample is greatly enhanced after annealing at 700 °C, which is attributed to the effective doping of Ni into the CdS lattice by annealing. The average hydrogen evolution rate is 1644.6 μmol/g/h, which adds up to about 119 times that of normal CdS. The current research provides a simple and effective method for improving the photocatalytic activity of CdS.

Two-dimensional (2D) beta indium sulfide ( β -In 2 S 3 ) shows great potential in photocatalytic hydrogen production due to its broad-spectrum response, relatively negative conduction band edge, high carrier mobility and low toxicity. However, the high charge recombination rate limits the application of In 2 S 3 . Here, we in-situ grew 2D cadmium sulfide (CdS) on the surface of In 2 S 3 doped with copper ions (Cu 2+ ) to construct a heterojunction photocatalyst that suppresses charge recombination. The in-situ grown method and shared sulfur composition were conducive to forming the efficient interface contact between In 2 S 3 and CdS, promoting charge transfer and showing the high spatial charge separation rate, resulting in a hydrogen production rate of 868 µmol g -1 h −1 . The induced Cu 2+ extended the light absorption range and stabilized the photocatalyst . By creating stable 2D/2D heterojunction photocatalysts with high charge separation efficiency, this work opens new possibilities for applying In 2 S 3 materials in photocatalytic hydrogen production.

Carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) is an important tumor marker, which is identified as a critical marker in some tumors. Thus it is of great practical value to seek an effective and sensitive method for CEA detection. Scholars found that the specific modification of solid-state nanochannels can construct special response characteristics. Cadmium sulfide (CdS) is an outstanding photoelectric nanomaterial due to its excellent optical properties. Inspired by the potential application of solid-state nanochannels and CdS, we used anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) to synthesize CdS nanoparticles (NPs) in AAO nanochannels for CEA detection. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and energy-dispersive spectrometry (EDS) results showed that CdS NPs were successfully self-assembled in AAO nanochannels. When we used AAO + CdS nanochannels for CEA detection, the I – V curves exhibited a broad determination range from 0.1 ng/mL to 100 ng/mL. Therefore, this method has important potential for nanomaterials self-assembled in AAO nanochannels in tumor marker detection for clinical diagnosis.

ZnO nanosheets , 2D/1D ZnO/CdS hybrid and ternary ZnO/CdS/GO S-scheme heterojunction photocatalyst were fabricated by a low-temperature hydrothermal technique. As expected, by investigating the degradation efficiency of rhodamine B under simulated sunlight, with the assistance of CdS and GO, the ternary heterostructure showed superior photocatalytic activity . The test results display that the dye degradation rate constant of ZnO/CdS/GO is about 1.75 × 10 −2 min −1 , which is 3.6 times higher than that of bare ZnO. SEM results prove the finding that the content of CdS can regulate the size and distribution of ZnO NSs, increasing the specific surface area of the sample. Besides, the results of ultraviolet–visible (UV–vis) absorbance spectra revealed that the addition of CdS and GO significantly synergistically increased the visible light absorption of ZnO, and also shortened the band gap of ZnO. Photoluminescence (PL) spectra, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and transient photocurrent response (TPR) results show that the presence of CdS and GO synergistically promotes the rapid separation of photoexcited carriers in ZnO. Notably, the GO also further speeds up the transmission rate of electrons and improves the photoelectric stability of the ZnO/CdS heterogeneous photocatalyst. The above changes can effectively promote the photocatalytic performance of photocatalysts. Moreover, a reasonable S-scheme carriers migration mechanism was proposed with the assistance of Mott-Schottky (MS) test, VB-XPS and sacrificial agent experiments. Through comprehensive analysis and discussion, it can be concluded that ZnO/CdS S-scheme heterojunction and GO synergistically promote the photocatalytic performance of ZnO. Therefore, this thesis may provide a deeper insight into developing the practical application of ZnO-based heterojunction photocatalysts in pollutant degradation.

Here we present the photoelectrocatalytic hydrogen generation properties of CdS passivated ZnCuInSe (ZCISe) quantum dots (QDs) supported by TiO2nanowires decorated with Ag nanoparticles. In this configuration, Ag nanoparticles were sandwiched between the photo-electrons collector (TiO2) and photo-sensitizers (ZCISe), and acted as an electron relay speeding up the charge carrier transport. ZCISe and CdS enabled the optical absorption of the photoelectrode ranging from ultraviolet to near infrared region, which significantly enhanced the solar-to-chemical energy conversion efficiency. A photocurrent of 10.5 mA/cm2and a hydrogen production rate of about 52.9 μmol/h were achieved under simulated sunlight (1.5 AG).Keywords:ZCISe QDs;TiO2nanowires;photocatalytic;hydrogen generation

Novel CdS/UiO-66-NH 2 heterojunction photocatalysts have been successfully fabricated via facile water bath deposition. Compared with the traditional preparation technology, such strategy introduces deionized water as solvent, reduces production cost and simplifies the fabrication process of the heterojunction photocatalyst. Characterizations indicate that CdS nanoparticles (NPs) are uniformly interspersed on the surface of UiO-66-NH 2 and the intimate contacted heterojunction interface is generated to prevent recombination of photogenerated charge carriers. CdS/UiO-66-NH 2 with a mass ratio of 1.5:1 (CdS: UiO-66-NH 2 ) exhibits the highest photocatalytic degradation rate for RhB of approximately 92.5% in 40 min and excellent photostability through four recycles. Furthermore, Photoluminescence (PL) spectra, UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectra (DRS), transient photocurrent, electrochemical impedance spectra (EIS), Nyquist plots and Mott-Schottky plots are applied to characterize the photoelectrochemical properties. The observably enhanced photocatalytic performance can be attributed to: 1) larger specific surface area, increased photocatalytic active sites, intimate contacted interface, 2) created n-n type heterojunction, and 3) rapid separation and transfer of photoexcited interfacial charges.
