The photocatalytic conversion of carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) into valuable products holds great promise from environmental and economic perspectives. However, current photocatalytic materials still exhibit unsatisfactory efficiency. In this study, a notably efficient step-scheme (S-scheme) heterojunction was developed by combining the Co-MOFs with carbon nitride nanosheets (g-C 3 N 4 ). The electrostatic interaction between these components not only facilitates the exfoliation of g-C 3 N 4 layers but also enhances the stability of the photocatalyst structure. The optimal heterojunction Co-CN4 photocatalyst achieved a significantly enhanced CO production rate of 16.1 µmol g −1 h −1 , which is 4.7 times higher than that of pure g-C 3 N 4 . This improved activity is ascribed to the enhanced light absorption and mitigated charge carrier recombination. Density functional theory (DFT) computations in conjunction with experimental observations elucidate the establishment of a close contact interface. Additionally, electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and in situ X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) characterization unveil the electron transfer pathway of Co-CN4 during photocatalytic CO 2 conversion. This study offers valuable insights into the design of S-scheme photocatalysts for enhancement of CO 2 photoreduction.

New types of LaFeO3/g-C3N4 heterostructures were successfully prepared and the enhanced photocatalytic hydrogen evolution and degradation activities under visible light irradiation were determined. They possessed the features of a Z-scheme photocatalysis system. The photoexcited electrons on the conduction band of LaFeO3 were transferred to the valence band of g-C3N4 by the solid–solid intimately contacted interfaces, where the electrons and holes were recombined, and thus improved the separation of photogenerated electrons and holes of g-C3N4. The LaFeO3/g-C3N4 heterostructures showed a higher hydrogen evolution rate and a higher amount of ˙OH than pure LaFeO3 and g-C3N4. The construction of the LaFeO3/g-C3N4 heterostructures was used to demonstrate an effective strategy for improving the photocatalytic property. The 5%-LaFeO3/g-C3N4 exhibited the highest photodegradation and water splitting rate. More than 95% of methylene blue (MB) was degraded after 15 min in the presence of 25 mg EDTA-2Na in 100 mL MB solution which was irradiated using a 3 W light-emitting diode. The 5%-LaFeO3/g-C3N4 heterojunction nanocomposite had a maximum hydrogen evolution rate of 158 μmol g−1 h−1.

Using photoluminescent (PL) graphitic carbon nitride (g-C 3 N 4 ) to convert ultraviolet (UV) light into chloroplast absorbed blue or near infrared (NR) is an attractive methodology to facilitate sunlight energy storage and carbon sequestration by microalgae. However, most researches focus on inhibiting water bloom by g-C 3 N 4 , applying PL g-C 3 N 4 to promote growth of microalgae is rarely reported. Accordingly, PL g-C 3 N 4 is synthesized by a microwave heating method and co–cultured with Chlorella vulgaris ( C. vulgaris ) with concentration of 0, 50, and 250 mg/L, named as C. vulgaris -0, C. vulgaris -50, and C. vulgaris -250, respectively, to study effect of PL g-C 3 N 4 on growth of C. vulgaris . Results indicate that there is no significant effect of microwave synthesized g-C 3 N 4 on morphology of microalgae cells, while cell viability and growth rate of C. vulgaris -50 is obviously enhanced. Further analysis indicates that, on the one hand, PL fluorescence at 615 nm enlarges light absorption of microalgae; on the other hand, photogenerated electrons by g-C 3 N 4 accelerate electron transfer in photosystem, subsequently enhancing formation of NADPH and ATP, which is favorable to growth of microalgae. Metabolism analysis illustrates that glucose, fructose, and galactose, involved in glycolysis and photosynthesis, are all up-regulated in C. vulgaris -50 group. This work reveals low concentration of PL g-C 3 N 4 facilitates protein synthesis and energy metabolism through enhancing light absorption and electron transfers, providing a biochemical strategy to enhance carbon sequestration.

In this paper, the rare earth europium complex Eu(FTFA) 3 TPPO 2 (EuFT) was synthesized by using europium as the central ion, 4-trifluoro-1-(2-furanyl)-1,3-butanedione (FTFA) as the first ligand, and triphenylphosphine oxide (TPPO) as the second ligand. The structure was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and the photoluminescence process was investigated by UV and fluorescence spectra. The luminescent film was prepared by adding EuFT and the compatibilizer POE- g -PHEMA into the POE matrix, which can convert the UV light to the red light, and improve the photovoltaic conversion efficiency while reducing the effect of UV aging on the cell. Experimental results show that the complex can absorb UV light (200–400 nm) and emit red light (612 nm), the luminescent film also maintains good luminescence performance. The peel strength of POE/POE- g -PHEMA/EuFT film achieves 23.9 N cm −1 ,while that of POE film is 12.8 N cm −1 . The silicon cell prepared by POE/POE- g -PHEMA/EuFT film also showed higher EQE in UV region, and its current density–voltage (J–V) curve revealed that J sc increased from 33.05 to 34.25 mA/cm 2 , the conversion efficiency increased from 12.99% to 13.39%, and the relative efficiency increased by 3.08%. The rare earth europium complex effectively improved the photoelectric conversion efficiency of solar cells.

Stable Zn anodes with high coulombic efficiency is important for the development of safe, low-cost and environmentally friendly aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs). However, the performance of Zn anode in AZIBs is deteriorated by its dendrite growth, the corrosion caused by irreversible hydrogen precipitation, and the side reactions occurring during the charge-discharge process. The coating of protective layers on Zn anodes is one of the feasible strategies to overcome these drawbacks. Herein, we coated the chemically stable graphite-phase carbon nitride (g-C 3 N 4 ) nanosheets on Zn anodes and well overcome its aggregation to create a homogeneous g-C 3 N 4 layer. This g-C 3 N 4 layer possesses a porous structure and abundant active sites favoring the homogeneous deposition of Zn. At the current density of 5 mA cm −2 , the g-C 3 N 4 @Zn electrodes provide an ultra-long cycle life over 1300 h. The full-cells assembled with MnO 2 also exhibit excellent discharge capability and capacity retention. This study advances the application of carbon-related nanomaterials as protective coating layers for Zn anodes, which may further facilitate the exploitation on aqueous energy storage systems.

Sulfur nanosheets (S-NSs), as a novel photocatalyst, was designed to composite with graphite phase nitrogen carbide (g-C 3 N 4 ) to form a kind of new S-NSs/g-C 3 N 4 (CNS) photocatalyst. The modulating effect of bovine serum albumin (BSA) or poly (3,4-ethylenedioxythiao)-polystyrene sulfonic acid (PEDOT:PSS) ligands on the photocatalytic activity of CNS nanocomposite was studied. The ligands mainly affect the band gap and conduction band potential of the photocatalyst, leading to different photocatalytic activities. When BSA was used as a ligand, the combine of S-NSs and g-C 3 N 4 (CNS-B) cannot improve the photocatalytic activity for the degradation of Rhodamine B (RhB). When PEDOT:PSS was used as a ligand, the composite catalysts of CNS-P significantly improved the photocatalytic activity. The degradation efficiency of composite material CNS-P for RhB and Doxycycline hydrochloride (DOX) can reach 97 % (90 min) and 78 % (90 min). Since the combine of S-NSs and g-C 3 N 4 , the photoelectric conversion ability was enhanced and the carrier mobility was accelerated. The composite catalyst enhanced the redox ability and suppressed the recombination of photo generated carriers through Z-type charge transfer. This study give a reference for designing a new photocatalysts of two dimensional materials and also provide a potential feasibility for antibiotic degradation application.

The introduction of nitrogen defects in graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) has the important effect of improving its photocatalytic performance. This study employs a simple and environmentally friendly one-step pyrolysis method, successfully preparing g-C3N4materials with adjustable N3Cdefect concentrations through the calcination of a urea and ammonium acetate mixture. By introducing N3Cdefects and adjusting the band structure, the conduction band of the g-C3N4was shifted downward by 0.12 V, overcoming the traditional application limitations of N3Cdefects and enabling an innovative transition from enhanced oxidation to enhanced reduction capabilities. This transition significantly enhanced the adsorption and activation of O2. Characterization results showed that the introduction of N3Cdefects increased the specific surface area from 44.07 m2/g to 87.08 m2/g, enriching reactive sites, while narrowing the bandgap to 2.41 eV enhanced visible light absorption capacity. The g-C3N4with N3Cdefects showed significantly enhanced photocatalytic activity, achieving peak performance of 54.8% for tetracycline (TC), approximately 1.5 times that of the original g-C3N4, with only a 5.4% (49.4%) decrease in photocatalytic efficiency after four cycles of testing. This study demonstrates that the introduction of N3Cdefects significantly enhances the photocatalytic performance of g-C3N4, expanding its potential applications in environmental remediation.

During the process of recirculating drilling fluids, the removal of useless solids, especially submicron particles, in drilling fluids is the most problematic issue in drilling operations. The cost and efficiency of currently used technologies are the two issues that have to be addressed urgently. In this study, the novel flocculant CMC- g -DMDAAC was synthesized by grafting diallyl dimethyl ammonium chloride (DMDAAC) onto carboxymethyl chitosan (CMC). The physicochemical structure of the CMC- g -DMDAAC product was characterized by Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, proton nuclear magnetic resonance ( 1 H NMR) spectroscopy, and determination of the ζ-potential. A kaolinite suspension, a bentonite suspension, and drilling fluids from an oilfield were selected to evaluate the flocculation performance of CMC- g -DMDAAC by testing the products’ turbidities and particle size distributions. In comparison, the flocculation performances of chitosan, CMC, and commercial hydrolyzed polyacrylamide (HPAM) were also tested under the same conditions. The results showed that CMC- g -DMDAAC exhibited steady flocculation performances for all clay suspensions and drilling fluids at all pH ranges at low dosage. The scavenging capacity of submicron particles in drilling fluids was also excellent for the tested product.

The gamma radiation induced-degradation of a β-lactam antibiotic, penicillin G was investigated in aqueous solution. Special attention was paid to the effects of the organic substances such as peptone and glucose on penicillin G degradation, which can be found in the wastewater of the factories producing antibiotics. Results showed that gamma radiation was effective to degrade and deactivate penicillin G in pure water. With the initial concentrations of 0.27 mM, 1.34 mM and 2.68 mM, a complete removal of penicillin G could be achieved at the adsorbed doses of 2.5 kGy, 10 kGy and 20 kGy, respectively. Penicilloic acid from the β-lactam ring cleavage and a series of fragment compounds such as thiazolidine and penicillic acid were identified during gamma irradiation-induced degradation of penicillin G. Addition of Fe 2+ was efficient to enhance the mineralization. The TOC removal efficiency of penicillin G was 21.7% using gamma irradiation alone at 10 kGy, which increased to 56.4% with 1.0 mM Fe 2+ addition. The gamma radiation-induced degradation of penicillin G was inhibited in the presence of peptone and glucose and the inhibitive effect increased with increasing their concentrations. The rate constant, k of the pseudo first-order kinetics decreased by 74% and 64% in the presence of 1.0 g/L of peptone and glucose, respectively, and by 96% and 89% in the presence of 10 g/L of peptone and glucose, respectively. The ratio of k / k 0 was increased by 1.3 times with H 2 O 2 addition and by 3 times with Fe 2+ addition, in the presence of 10 g/L of glucose. Adding Fe 2+ was effective to improve the ionizing radiation induced degradation of penicillin G antibiotic in the glucose-containing wastewater.

A novel functional coating was prepared from self-assembled micelles through direct electrophoretic deposition. The micelles were obtained via self-assembly of amphiphilic hyaluronic acid- g -dopamine (HA- g -DA) in aqueous solution with encapsulation of bovine hemoglobin (BHb). The size, morphology, and zeta potential of the resulting micelles were characterized. Then, the micelles were immobilized onto conductive substrate using electrophoretic deposition technique to fabricate nanostructured coating. The structure and morphology of the resulting coating were studied by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The release behavior of BHb from the coating was evaluated in a simulated body fluid (SBF), and the BHb was released up to 20 days. And in vitro assay demonstrated that the nanostructured coating is biocompatible to NIH3T3 and Hela cells, respectively. The contribution of our work lies in the creation of a novel strategy to fabricate a functional coating in viewing of the versatility of self-assembled micelles and the controllability of electrophoretic deposition process. It is believed that our work provides new ideas and reliable data to design functional coatings for biomedical applications.

Polyphenylene sulfide (PPS), commonly used as a core material for high-temperature flue gas treatment, exhibits elevated viscosity when processed even at temperature exceeding 280 °C. In this study, a novel high-flowability PPS-based composite was fabricated through the incorporation of graphitic carbon nitride (g-C 3 N 4 ) via a well-established melt extrusion procedure. The enhancement of flowability in PPS was verified, and the material's texture structures and fundamental properties of composites with varying contents were determined. The composites exhibit well-dispersed g-C 3 N 4 , a significant reduction in shear viscosity (>10 %), a notable increase in melt index (>30 %), improved crystallinity , and comparable or superior performance compared to pure PPS. When the g-C 3 N 4 was introduced into the PPS matrix, a phase-separated composite structure was formed. This structure reduces the entanglement degree between the PPS molecular chains and provides more space for free-movement of the PPS chains, and thus the improvement in flowability for the composites can be clearly demonstrated. Therefore, g-C 3 N 4 can be used as a novel flow modifier to enhance the flowability and stability of PPS resin without compromising its fundamental properties, which offers significant prospects for improving productivity, optimizing energy usage, and managing costs for PPS-based products.

Excessive emissions of carbon dioxide have led to the greenhouse effect and global warming. Reducing carbon dioxide into high-value-added chemicals through solar energy is a promising approach. Herein, a g-C3N4/TiO2heterojunction photocatalyst with efficient electron transfer is designed for photocatalytic CO2reduction. The CH4(18.32 µmol·h−1·g−1) and CO (25.35 µmol·h−1·g−1) evolution rates of g-C3N4/TiO2are higher than those of g-C3N4and TiO2. The enhanced photocatalytic CO2reduction performance is attributed to the efficient charge carrier transfer in the g-C3N4/TiO2heterojunction. The electron transfer route was verified by in situ irradiated X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The photocatalytic CO2reduction mechanism on g-C3N4/TiO2was investigated by in situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (DRIFTS). This work provides a strategy for designing a polymer/metallic oxide heterojunction with efficient electron transfer for enhanced photocatalytic CO2reduction.
