The development of photothermal materials with high photothermal-conversion efficiencies is important in a range of applications, such as power generation, sterilization, desalination , and energy-production. To date, a few reports have been published related to improving the photothermal conversion performances of photothermal materials based on self-assembled nanolamellae. Herein, hybrid films of co -assembled stearoylated cellulose nanocrystals (SCNCs) and polymer-grafted graphene oxide (pGO)/polymer-grafted carbon nanotubes (pCNTs) were prepared. The chemical compositions , microstructures, and morphologies of these products were characterized, and it was found that the self-assembled SCNC structures exhibited numerous surface nanolamellae due to crystallization of the long alkyl chains. The hybrid films (i.e., SCNC/pGO and SCNC/pCNTs films) consisted of ordered nanoflake structures, confirming the co-assembly behavior of the SCNCs with pGO or pCNTs. The melting temperature (~65 °C) and latent heat of melting (87.87 J/g) of SCNC 1.07 indicate its potential to induce the formation of nanolamellar pGO or pCNTs. Under light irradiation (50–200 mW/cm 2 ), the pCNTs exhibited a higher light absorption capacity than pGO, and as a result, the SCNC/pCNTs film exhibited the best photothermal performance and electrical conversion, ultimately demonstrating its potential for use as a solar thermal device in practical applications.

Membrane-based separations can improve energy efficiency and reduce the environmental impact associated with conventional methods. However, conventional adsorbents encapsulate most of their functional sites in their dense structures, leading to issues of low selectivity and adsorption capacity. To overcome the above problems, the scalable basswood-based PDA/GO-embedded self-assembly membranes were prepared based a multilayer artemisinin (Ars)-imprinted nanocage (MA/SB-P/G-ESMs) for highly selective adsorption and transport to Ars. The double-layer imprinting strategy of graphene oxide based on polydopamine and κ-carrageenan using three-dimensional mesoporous basswood as the support membrane improved the effective imprinting platform. The final MA/SB-P/G-ESMs were prepared by a heat-initiated radical polymerization, acrylamide was used as a functional monomer to conveniently and efficiently form specific recognition sites on the membrane. Notably, the outcomes demonstrated that, despite interference with other rivals, MA/SB-P/G-ESMs displayed perfect rebinding selectivity ( λ = 2.67, 2.89, 2.35) and perm-selectivity ( β = 8.16, 5.43, 6.51) for Ars. The high regeneration rate (after 10 cycles, greater than93%) demonstrated the MA/SB-P/G-ESMs' practical application potential. The selective separation of Ars using the MA/SB-P/G-ESM preparation method showed substantial promise in this work.

The simultaneous electrochemical determination of myricetin and rutin remains a challenge due to their indistinguishable potentials. To solve this problem, we constructed a ternary platinum nanoparticle, reduced graphene oxide, multi-walled carbon nanotubes (Pt@r-GO@MWCNTs) nanocomposite via a facile one-pot synthetic method. Under the optimized conditions, the ternary Pt@r-GO@MWCNTs nanocomposite exhibited good electrocatalytic activity toward myricetin and rutin via solid phase extraction and excellent performance for the simultaneous determination of myricetin and rutin. The oxidation peak current of myricetin was proportional to its concentrations in the range of 0.05–50 μM with a detection limit of 0.01 μM (S/N = 3). The linear range for rutin was 0.05–50 μM with a detection limit of 0.005 μM (S/N = 3). The ternary nanocomposite sensor also exhibited good reproducibility and stability, and was successfully used for the simultaneous determination of myricetin and rutin in real orange juice samples with recoveries ranging between 100.57% and 108.46%.

Methylene blue (MB) is a dye pollutant commonly present in textile wastewater. We investigate and critically evaluate the applicability of BaTiO 3 /GO composite for photodegradation of MB in synthetic wastewater under UV–vis irradiation. To enhance its performance, the BaTiO 3 /GO composite is varied based on the BaTiO 3 weight. To compare and evaluate any changes in their morphologies and crystalline structures before and after treatment, BET (Brunauer–Emmett–Teller), XRD (X-ray diffraction), FTIR (Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy), SEM (scanning electron microscopy) and TEM (transmission electron microscopy) tests are conducted, while the effects of reaction time, pH, dose of photocatalyst and initial MB concentration on its photodegradation by the composite are also investigated under identical conditions. The degradation pathways and removal mechanisms of MB by the BaTiO 3 /GO are elaborated. It is evident from this study that the BaTiO 3 /GO composite is promising for MB photodegradation through ·OH. Under optimized conditions (0.5 g/L of dose, pH 9.0, and 5 mg/L of MB concentration), the composite with 1:2 dose ratio of BaTiO 3 /GO has the highest MB degradation rate (95%) after 3 h of UV vis irradiation. However, its treated effluents still could not comply with the discharge standard limit of less than 0.2 mg/L imposed by national environmental legislation. This suggests that additional biological treatments are still required to deal with the remaining oxidation by-products of MB, still present in the wastewater samples such as 3,7-bis (dimethyl-amino)-10H-phenothiazine 5-oxide.

The “shuttle effect” that stems from the dissolution of polysulfides is the most fatal issue affecting the cycle life of lithium-sulfur (Li–S) batteries. In order to suppress the “shuttle effect,” a new strategy of using a highly lithium ion conductive lithium fluoride/graphene oxide (LiF/GO) solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) to mechanically prevent the lithium dendrite breakthrough is reported. When utilized in Li–S batteries, the LiF/GO SEI coated separator demonstrates significant feature in mitigating the polysulfide shuttling as observed by in situ UV–vis spectroscopy. Moreover, the restrained “shuttle effect” can also be confirmed by analysis of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and characterization of lithium dendrites, which indicates that no insulating layer of solid Li 2 S 2 /Li 2 S is found on lithium anode surface. Furthermore, the LiF/GO SEI layer puts out good lithium ion conductivity as its lithium ion diffusion coefficient reaches a high value of 1.5 × 10 −7 cm 2 s −1 . These features enable a remarkable cyclic property of 0.043% of capacity decay per cycle during 400 cycles.

In the study, a two-major step involving a hydrothermal method and an electrostatic self-assembly method was adopted to synthesis Fe3O4/GO nanocomposites. The Fe3O4 nanoparticles were successfully modified with the 3-aminopropyltrimethoxy-silane and homogeneously deposited onto the surface of GO. They were used as Fenton-like catalyst to degrade Rhodamine B and displayed a higher activity compared with the pristine Fe3O4 nanoparticles, H2O2, Fe3O4/GO nanocomposite and Fe3O4/H2O2 system, demonstrating the synergistic effect between the superior adsorption properties of GO and the excellent catalytic activity of Fe3O4/H2O2 system. Besides, the possible catalytic mechanism and degradation pathway for RhB molecules by Fe3O4/GO nanocomposites and H2O2 was proposed based on the liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) analysis. The result reveals that the •OH radicals should be the main actives species during catalytic degradation of RhB by the Fe3O4/GO/H2O2 system. In addition, the catalyst is reusable and shows efficiency up to 5 cycles. We believe the strategy in our work can provide insight into designing the novel catalysts for large-scale degradation of organic pollutants in the wastewater.

In this work, an Au/g-C 3 N 4 /GO/Au hybrid nanofilm for surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) substrate application was prepared by a facile layer-by-layer assembly technique using nanosheet-structured graphitic carbon nitride (g-C 3 N 4 ), graphene oxide (GO) and 40 nm-gold nanoparticles (Au NPs). The effects of composition, assembly sequence and assembly cycles on the SERS performance were optimized to achieve the SERS-active substrate. The detection limit of Au/g-C 3 N 4 /GO/Au substrate for crystal violet and rhodamine 6 G probe molecules reached as high as 10 -8 M, with good stability and uniformity. Its further application in food colorants detection (erythrosine, carmine and temptation red) had successfully met the national food safety standards and the quantitative detection for erythrosine and temptation red had also been established. Based on finite-difference time-domain element simulation and density functional theory quantum chemical calculation, the mechanism of the SERS effect of the substrate was unveiled, which is attributed to the combination of electromagnetic enhancement effect of Au nanoparticle aggregates and chemical enhancement effect of GO and g-C 3 N 4 . Notably, water droplet evaporation induced Raman enhancement was observed on the Au/g-C 3 N 4 /GO/Au substrate. This can be ascribed to the inhomogeneous evaporation of the droplet that promotes the enrichment of the probe molecules into the center of the droplet. This novel enhancement strategy provides a new idea for further improving detection sensitivity of SERS substrate materials.

Lightweight structural/microwave absorption (MA) integrated materials with broadband MA are urgently needed in the aerospace field. In this study, crosslinked PVA/CNF backbone-supported RGO foams were successfully filled into aramid honeycomb structures with significant broadband MA performance and structural enhancement properties through a synergistic strategy of chemical crosslinking, environmental drying and chemical vapor reduction. Flexible tuning of the electromagnetic parameters of the PVA/CNF@GO foam can be achieved by adjusting the number of GO parts. The 30 mm thickness of the PVA/CNF@14GO foam achieves a broadband effective absorption of 13.25 GHz, covering almost all C, X and Ku bands. Microstructural characterization and electromagnetic parameter tests proved that the uniform distribution of RGO was achieved with crosslinked PVA/CNF as the backbone, which resulted in less Debye relaxation and the construction of uniform conductive pathways. Therefore, the PVA/CNF@14GO-filled honeycomb not only enables the composite honeycomb to achieve broadband MA performance, but also achieves a compressive strength of 5.52 MPa, which is an improvement of 262.86 % with respect to that of the pure honeycomb. The obvious overlap of the CST power loss distribution and the electric field distribution region shows that the conductive loss and the 1/4 wavelength interference are the main paths for energy dissipation in the composite of the PVA/CNF@GO-filled honeycomb. The honeycomb-filled PVA/CNF@GO lightweight foams obtained in this chapter have good broadband microwave absorption properties and higher structural strength, which provide important design strategies and practical references for the development of high-performance MA-filled honeycomb structures.

Dressings play a crucial role in the management of burn wound. In this study, the cotton bandage was modified with the Poly (N-isopropylacrylamide) / graphite oxide/nano silver (PNIPAM/GO-Ag) hydrogel to obtain a novel dressing (PNIPAM/GO-Ag/COT). The healing effect of the PNIPAM/GO-Ag/COT dressing on deep second-degree burn wounds in rats and the changes of related inflammatory factors were explored and analyzed systematically. The deep second-degree burn model was established by the steam scald method in Sprague–Dawley (SD) rats. The granulation tissue, collagen deposition, the expressions of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), and basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) of the wound were evaluated by means of the HE staining, Masson staining, ELISA, and immunohistochemistry methods. The results showed that, compared with the blank group (rats without the dressing treatment), the PNIPAM/GO-Ag/COT dressing reduced the expression of TNF-α by approximately 18 % and promoted the bFGF expression in wound tissue. Compared to the control group (rats with the gauze treatment), the wound healing rate in the PNIPAM/GO-Ag/COT dressing group was 58 % on the 14th day, with an increase of 30 %. These results demonstrated that the PNIPAM/GO-Ag/COT dressing primarily promoted burn wound healing by reducing inflammatory reactions, promoting collagen deposition, and enhancing the expression of bFGF.

Dual threats of over-film (degradation) and under-film filiform corrosion (FFC) pose a significant challenge to the reliable application of Zn-Al-Mg coated steel (ZAM-steel), necessitating the development of effective protection strategies. This study introduces a novel MRS@GO nanohybrid, integrated within epoxy (EP) coatings, to enhance the corrosion resistance of ZAM-steel in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution. The hierarchical structure of MRS@GO synergistically combines the barrier properties of an insulating material (MRS) with the electrochemical benefits of a conducting material (GO), providing superior protection. This dual functionality significantly improves the overall performance and durability of ZAM-steel, making it a promising candidate as the decorative coating for the automotive industry.

Developing an anti-fouling and multifunctional membrane with efficient separation performance is great potential for alleviating water crisis. Here, combining the heterogeneous β-FeOOH/Ag catalyst layer, intercepted GO nanosheets layer, and porous polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) substrate, a multi-layer composite membrane (β-FeOOH@GO/AgNWs) was designed and fabricated by the polyphenol (TA)-metal (Fe 3 + ) crosslinking and inductive effect. Hence, the β-FeOOH@GO/AgNWs membrane possesses robust physical and chemical stability, superhydrophilicity (water contact angle ∼0°) and underwater superoleophobicity (underwater oil contact angle >150°). Due to the construction of heterojunctions of β-FeOOH/Ag, the β-FeOOH@GO/AgNWs membrane achieved the degradation of various dyes under the photo-Fenton system, the degradation rate constant is 0.0986 min −1 . Meanwhile, the synergistic effect of multi-layer structure can efficiently intercept the various soluble dyes by electrostatic effect, π-π action and layered channels, the reject rate recached above 97.89 % under the acidic and neutral environment. Faced the membrane fouling phenomenon during the separation process, the flux and rejection of fouled membrane recovered to above 95.1 % and 97.9 % after photo-Fenton cleaning for 10 min. Moreover, the β-FeOOH@GO/AgNWs membrane also realized efficient separation performance for various oil-in-water emulsions, the flux reached 329.2 ± 25–486.1 ± 15 L m −2 h −1 bar −1 , the corresponding separation efficient was above 99 %. Similarly, the photo-Fenton cleaning strategy also regenerated the fouled composite membrane, the flux recovery rate was above 95 %. Therefore, we think that β-FeOOH@GO/AgNWs membrane can bring a new thinking of developing the multifunctional membrane to achieve complex wastewater remediation.

The label-free immunosensing technique is highly valued for its sensitivity and specificity, and advantages of simple preparation, fast detection (one-step), and rapid signal response. However, the sensitivity, stability, and specificity of this technique not only depend on the performance of antibodies, but also on the immunosensing interface of the bare glassy carbon electrode (GCE). This includes factors such as electrical conductivity , biocompatibility , and antibody loading capacity. In this study, carboxyl multiwalled carbon nanotubes-ferrosoferric oxide-graphene oxide (COOH-MWCNTs-Fe 3 O 4 -GO) was screened as the modified material of GCE to create an ideal immunosensing interface for the biological reaction between antibody-sulfadimidine (anti-SM2) and SM2. The structure of both nanomaterials and the immunosensor were characterized. The nanohybrid exhibited a uniform interwoven structure of laminar and tubular components. This unique structure allows for a higher capacity for antibody loading. Based on this, a novel electrochemical immunosensor was constructed using COOH-MWCNTs-Fe 3 O 4 -GO/GCE, which exhibited a high anti-SM2 loading capacity and a rapid detection time of 30 min. The immunosensor exhibited a linear detection range of 0.01–100 ng/mL for SM2, with a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.003 ng/mL and a limit of quantification (LOQ) of 0.01 ng/mL. Additionally, satisfactory recoveries ranging from 94.40% to 109.00% were achieved in crayfish samples, with a relative standard deviation (RSD) of 4.97–8.64%. A novel immunosensors for highly sensitive detection of SM2 has been developed, which may provide an alternative idea for determination of SM2 in crayfish and other seafood.
