It is challenging to prepare a binary assembled metal-organic framework (MOF) by anisotropic epitaxial growth method. Besides, nanocages (NCs) with hollow structures are often constructed to improve microwave absorbing abilities. Herein, we combine the selective epitaxial growth and hollow engineering technologies to fabricate hybrid MOF-derived NCs. Benefiting from the unique nanocage/porous structure, complementary magnetic/dielectric components and suitable impedance matching characteristics, the optimized absorber (CoNi/TiO 2 @PC-NCs) exhibits unique microwave absorbing properties. It is worth noting that the minimum reflection loss (RL min ) of the absorber reaches -65.3 dB, and the overall effective absorption bandwidth (EAB, RL < -10 dB) covers 15.1 GHz (2.9–18 GHz). The maximum EAB under a single thickness covers 4.4 GHz, displaying skipping dual-band coverages at both high and low frequencies. This work might provide a novel perspective for the synthesis of assembled MOF-derived absorbers.

Metal-organic framework (MOF) has great potential in the field of supercapacitors as electrode material due to its high specific surface area and unique structure. Herein, a series of nickel MOFs (Ni-MOFs) were fabricated by one-pot solvothermal method at different experimental conditions. The electrochemical properties of the Ni-MOFs as electrode materials can be tuned by adjusting the experimental conditions to regulate the structures. The result indicates that a novel moss-like three-dimensional (3D) Ni-MOF had the maximum specific capacity of 638 C g -1 at a current density of 0.5 A g -1 . The asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) assembled by using moss-like 3D Ni-MOF as the positive electrode and active carbon as the negative electrode exhibited a high energy density of 30.4 Wh kg -1 at power density of 407.4 W kg -1 .

Hydrogen is considered as a viable alternative to traditional fossil fuels. Hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) by electrochemical water splitting is the most reliable and effective way for the sustainable production of pure hydrogen. The design and synthesis of highly active and stable non-noble-metal-based electrocatalysts is the core of the large-scale application of this technology. Herein, peony petal-like CoMnP/NF nanomaterials growing on nickel foam (NF) are prepared via facile hydrothermal and phosphorization methods. The results showed that CoMnP/NF had excellent HER activity in acidic and alkaline media . In 0.5 M H 2 SO 4 , CoMnP/NF only needed 66.6 mV overpotential to drive the current density of 10 mA cm −2 , with a Tafel slope of 38.8 mV dec −1 . In addition, a particularly low overpotential of 53.9 mV and Tafel slope of 63 mV dec −1 are required to achieve the same current density in the 1 M KOH electrolyte. Meanwhile, the electrocatalyst showed good stability after 1000 cyclic voltammetry tests and 12 h I-T tests. In the 1 M KOH electrolyte, the current density of 10 mA cm −2 achieved with only 1.70 V battery voltage , and the electrocatalyst showed excellent stability. The performance of CoMnP/NF can be attributed to the synergistic effect between Co and Mn atoms and the high electrochemical surface area (ECSA). This study provides a valuable strategy for the synthesis of non-precious metals and high-performance catalytic materials.

Zr-MOF was prepared under solvothermal conditions using zirconium acetate as the metal ion and 2,5-dihydroxyterephthalic acid as the organic ligand. It was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and thermogravimetry (TG). Zr-MOF was used as an adsorbent to remove norfloxacin from aqueous solutions. The experimental results were fitted, and the results showed that the pseudo-second-order kinetics model was appropriate for studying the removal of norfloxacin. We investigated the adsorption capacity of Zr-MOF under different masses, concentrations, and pH values. At pH 10, the maximum adsorption capacity after 5 h was 134.5 mg/g.Compared with another adsorbent, the adsorption capacity of Zr-MOF was higher. The removal of norfloxacin from an aqueous solution using Zr-MOF was feasible, inexpensive, and effective. Our findings indicate that Zr-MOF has broad application prospects for the purification of an aqueous solution.

Zirconium-based porphyrin metal organic frameworks (Zr-PMOFs) had attracted attention in the field of photocatalysis in recent years. However, the recombination of photogenerated carriers of monomer PMOF limits its performance of photocatalytic organic pollutants degradation. Metal sulfide has a suitable visible band gap, which can form a heterojunction with MOF materials to enhance the photocatalytic efficiency of MOF. Therefore, a typical metal sulfide semiconductor ZnIn 2 S 4 (ZIS) was introduced into a Zr-MOF (MOF-525) by solvothermal method to prepare a series of ZIS/MOF-525 (ZIS/MOF-525–1, ZIS/MOF-525–2, ZIS/MOF-525–3 and ZIS/MOF-525–4) composite photocatalysts in this work. The results of characterization analysis, optical analysis and electrochemical analysis showed that the interface of ZIS/MOF-525 formed a typical type-II heterojunction, which accelerated the electron transport rate and effectively inhibited the recombination of photogenerated e − and h + in MOF-525. The optimal removal efficiency of tetracycline (TC) by ZIS/MOF-525–3 (the mass of MOF-525 is 30 mg) reached 93.8% under 60 min visible light illumination, which was greater than that of pure MOF-525 (37.2%) and ZnIn 2 S 4 (70.0%), and it still maintained good stability after five cycles reusing experiment. This work provides feasible insight for the preparation of novel and efficient PMOF-based photocatalysts in the future.

In this work, we prepared a series of Fe-MOF polyhedra [metal organic framework (MOF)-1 ∼ −13] by introducing β-cyclodextrin (CD) as a morphology modifier using an interaction between ferric chloride and terephthalic acid in dimethylformamide. A novel structural evolution from a hexagonal bipyramid to a bipyramidal hexagonal prism was clearly observed. This evolution was gradual and could be well reflected by the height ratio of the prism and pyramid in these polyhedral structures. It is the relative concentration of β-CD that drives this structural evolution. Although the reaction temperature and time can also affect the height ratio to some extent, their influence can only be realized in the presence of β-CD. In the absence of β-CD, only hexagonal bipyramid structures were obtained. It is worth noting that Fe-MOF-1 with a bipyramidal hexagonal prism structure (prism height, ∼130 nm) showed typical paramagnetic characteristics, and its saturation magnetization was determined to be 23.1 emu·g–1. Furthermore, we found that Fe-MOF-1 exhibited good photocatalytic performance for different types of dyes (crystal violet with positives and methyl orange with negative charges). At the same time, a possible photocatalytic mechanism was proposed to explain the difference of degradation efficiency between the two dyes. Also, we use the combination of specific surface area and zeta potential to explain the differences in the catalytic properties of a series of Fe-MOF materials. In addition, MOF-1 shows the same electrocatalytic oxygen evolution reaction performance as some bimetallic MOFs such as Fe-Co-MOF. For example, the overpotential of MOF-1 is 398 mV at 10 mA·cm–2 current density, while that of Fe-Co-MOF is 410 mV. We believe that the current work can contribute to the adjustment, modification, and application of MOF nanostructures.

In this work, a facile fluorescence Eu3+-based metal organic frameworks (Eu MOF) sensor for ascorbic acid (AA) and ascorbate oxidase (AAO) detection was developed. The fluorescence of Eu MOF could be effectively quenched by Ce3+ but not Ce4+ at an appropriate concentration, thus, when the reductant AA was added into the solution containing Ce4+, Ce4+ was chemically reduced to Ce3+, which induced the decreased fluorescence signal of Eu MOF. However, when AAO was introduced, AA was effectively oxidized to dehydroascorbic acid (DHAA) under the catalysis of AAO, thus, Ce4+ could not be reduced, resulting in the fluorescence restore of Eu MOF. Hence, the concentration of AA and AAO could be determined by the fluorescence decrease and restore of Eu MOF. The fluorescent platform showed high sensitivity with the limit of detection of 0.32 µM for AA and 1.18 U/L for AAO, respectively. Moreover, the proposed method was successfully applied for AA and AAO determination in real samples, indicating great potential for biomedical application in complex matrices.

Photothermal membrane distillation (PMD) has the potential to address freshwater scarcity, but heat loss during heat transfer from the photothermal surface to the feed bulk inevitably lower the photothermal-vapor conversion efficiency of this process. The permeation of VOCs during PMD also threatens the recycling of distilled water. Herein, a zeolitic imidazolate framework-67 (ZIF-67) wrapped graphene membrane (ZGM) was developed and used for the PMD process. The results demonstrated that the hierarchical porous structure and low heat conductivity of ZIF-67 endowed the ZGM with improved light absorbance and heat localization, thus sustaining a high cross-membrane temperature gradient . Under simulated sunlight illumination, the ZGM attained an additional flux of 0.91 kg m −2 h −1 , corresponding to a photothermal efficiency of 62.1%, which was 183.2% higher than that of the pristine membrane. The temperature change near the photothermal coating was simulated, which showed that ZGM had slower heat conduction into the feed, demonstrating a confined heat effect. Meanwhile, the ZGM exhibited a good interception for phenol when peroxymonosulfate (PMS) was added to the hot feed. The distilled phenol concentration was 88.0% lower than that of the PMD without PS. Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and radical quenching experiments verified that singlet oxygen ( 1 O 2 ) was the dominant reactive oxygen species during in-situ phenol degradation. This work provides a new strategy to develop advanced photothermal membranes to simultaneously promote the photothermal performance and VOC interception.

The clinical application of doxorubicin (DOX) is severely limited by its off-target toxicities and the emergence of chemoresistance when used alone. Herein, we engineered a chondroitin sulfate (CS)-targeted Mn-Fe bimetallic metal-organic framework nanoparticle loaded with DOX (SMFDC) that integrates chemotherapy and chemodynamic therapy (CDT) within a single platform. SMFDC exhibited uniform spherical morphology with a particle size of 164.5 ± 3.2 nm and a zeta potential of −9.11 ± 0.26 mV. The DOX encapsulation efficiency was 52.9 ± 3.54%, the drug loading capacity was 24.05 ± 1.4%, and the hemolysis rate was 1.08 ± 0.12%. The nanoparticle enabled pH/glutathione (GSH) dual-responsive release, achieving 60.33 ± 3.09% cumulative release of DOX within 60 h under simulated tumor microenvironment (TME) conditions (pH 5.0, 10 mM GSH). The released Mn 2+ /Fe 2+ ions efficiently catalyzed the Fenton/Fenton-like reaction to convert H 2 O 2 into hydroxyl radicals (·OH), while markedly depleting intracellular GSH and inducing potent oxidative stress. CS modification significantly enhanced cellular uptake in HeLa cells. In vitro antitumor evaluation showed that the half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC 50 ) of SMFDC (DOX-equivalent) was 5.708 μg/mL, which was significantly lower than that of the unmodified SMFD group (12.849 μg/mL). Unlike previously reported Mn-Fe bimetallic MOFs used solely for CDT or CS-modified MOFs used only for targeting, this work integrates DOX loading, Mn-Fe bimetallic CDT, and CS-mediated active targeting into a single nanoplatform. This integrated design achieved synergistic chemotherapy-CDT, carrier-based pH/GSH dual-responsive release, and active tumor targeting, thereby enhancing CDT efficacy while overcoming the off-target toxicity and chemoresistance associated with DOX monotherapy. This strategy not only offers a promising paradigm for synergistic therapy but also provides a generalizable design principle for developing next-generation CDT-based combination nanomedicines. Ce-UiO-66 was anchored on biochar to fabricate hierarchical porous BC@UiO-66-MOF with abundant sites for selective VFA capture. • The composite selectively adsorbs short-chain VFAs via multilayer chemisorption and allows recovery by ethanol-water elution. • Fixed-bed tests verify superior separation capacity and renderability with 83% initial capacity retained after five adsorption-desorption cycles. • Aspen Plus simulation establishes an industrial VFA separation process, and optimized distillation enables 97-98% VFA purification. • LCA and economic analysis confirm the integrated process is eco-friendly, low-cost, and scalable for kitchen-waste recycling. Volatile fatty acids (VFAs) derived from anaerobic fermentation of kitchen waste represent valuable biobased building blocks, yet efficient separation and recovery of VFAs from complex aqueous fermentation liquors remain a persistent bottleneck. Adsorption serves as a promising route for bioproduct enrichment, but conventional adsorbents suffer from insufficient uptake capacity, low selectivity, or poor structural robustness. To overcome the weak mechanical stability of bare metal–organic frameworks and the lack of specific recognition toward target pollutants of pristine biochar, we rationally fabricate a Ce-UiO-66-functionalized biochar composite named BC@UiO-66-MOF for selective VFA capture. Response surface methodology (RSM) was employed to optimize adsorption operational parameters, while a suite of characterizations including SEM, BET, in situ FTIR, XPS, and XRD verified the successful immobilization of Ce-UiO-66-MOF moieties on biochar scaffolds. We systematically unravel the intrinsic adsorption mechanisms toward various VFAs and further assess the practical applicability of this composite for the treatment of authentic fermentation wastewater. The as-prepared BC@UiO-66-MOF integrates the complementary merits of biochar and Ce-UiO-66-MOF, delivering synergistically boosted structural stability, abundant pore channels, and enhanced adsorption capacity, alongside markedly improved VFA selectivity and cyclic reusability relative to unmodified biochar. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations disclose that acetic acid exhibits stronger, thermodynamically more spontaneous adsorption interactions in high-polarity aqueous media compared to ethanol, verifying ethanol as an ideal desorption eluent. Fixed-bed dynamic adsorption tests reveal that the BC@UiO-66-MOF packed column exhibits a 28% longer breakthrough duration and 72% greater saturated adsorption capacity than commercial biochar (BC), highlighting its outstanding performance under continuous-flow operation. Complementary Aspen Plus process simulation coupled with life cycle assessment (LCA) further substantiates the ecological sustainability and economic viability of the proposed VFA recovery workflow, underscoring the great industrial translation potential of the BC@UiO-66-MOF adsorbent for valorizing organic waste-derived VFAs. Antibiotic residues, particularly tetracycline (TC), in aquatic environments pose a critical global challenge, demanding efficient and sustainable remediation solutions. Herein, a novel metal-organic framework (MOF)-derived ZnIn 2 S 4 photocatalyst (ZnIn 2 S 4 (MOF)) was successfully synthesized via a facile hydrothermal method, exhibiting significantly enhanced visible-light photocatalytic TC degradation performance. Compared to ZnIn 2 S 4 , the as-prepared ZnIn 2 S 4 (MOF) features a unique hierarchical morphology and optimized electronic structure. Comprehensive characterizations including XRD, XPS, SEM, BET, DRS, PL, TRPL, and transient photocurrent measurements were employed to elucidate its structural, optical, and photoelectrochemical properties. The ZnIn 2 S 4 (MOF) achieved an exceptional TC removal efficiency of 83% within 50 min under visible light. The enhanced activity is attributed to abundant active sites, improved light absorption with a narrowed bandgap of 2.14 eV, and suppressed charge recombination, as evidenced by prolonged average fluorescence lifetime and enhanced photocurrent density. Systematic investigations revealed significant influences of catalyst dosage, initial TC concentration, reaction temperature, and coexisting inorganic anions on degradation kinetics. Moreover, the catalyst demonstrated remarkable versatility toward multiple antibiotics. This work provides a rational design strategy for high-performance sulfide photocatalysts and insights into structure-activity relationships for emerging pollutant degradation.

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) exhibit structural diversity and functional tunability, rendering them a versatile platform for a wide range of applications. Specifically, defects or function groups induced by exotic ligands is an efficient strategy to adjust the catalytic performance. In this study, we explore the impact of incorporating ferrocene derivatives into two Ni-based MOFs and examine their suitability as potential glucose sensors. One strategy involves introducing bidentate 1,1′-ferrocenedicarboxylic acid (1,1′-Fc) into the 3D Ni-1,4-benzenedicarboxylic acid MOF (Fc-Ni-BDC) using a simple single-step hydrothermal method . Another approach involves encapsulating ferrocenemethylamine (Fc-NH 2 ) inside the cavity of 2D conductive Ni-HHTP MOF (HHTP=2,3,6,7,10,11-hexahydroxytriphenylene) driven by electrostatic attraction to form Fc-Ni-HHTP. On account of the synergy between ferrocene derivatives and MOFs, the hybrid MOFs demonstrated remarkable electrochemical performance , characterized by pronounced electrocatalytic reactivity towards glucose oxidation . It is showed that the doped ferrocene derivatives act as electron donors to the MOF active sites, modifying the electronic structure and facilitating the kinetics of the reactions, then an augmentation in the catalytic efficiency has been achieved. This work demonstrates a simple strategy to improve MOF-based electrochemical sensors by incorporating metallocene ligands.
