Natural cell systems with multiple isolated compartments possess controllable signal transduction pathways, which can segregate a series of complex substances and confine them from each other to allow for feedback-driven reactions. By biomimicking the ingenuity of cell systems, we herein designed spatially compact metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) as a hierarchical host for complex substances at isolated locations for the development of reaction pathway-regulated glycoprotein assay. The well-defined zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) matrices were fabricated via epitaxial growth to organize the multishelled integration of multiple guest substances including redox reactant substrates (i.e., resazurin and amplex red) and Pt-shelled Au (AuPt) entities. In addition, the micropore nature and enclosed space of the ZIF-8 matrix can prohibit the surpassed contact between fluorogenic substrates and catalytic AuPt converters, inherently, while the immediate signal generator pattern can be harvested through textural collapse of the ZIF-8 skeleton in a controllable manner. Our proposed glycoprotein assay can be conducted with on-demand redox reactions for signal generators: a reductive N-deoxygenation of resazurin and an oxidative N-deacetylation of amplex red, respectively. Due to the distinct catalytic behavior of AuPt converters involved in the fluorogenic redox reactions, the detection limit of the reaction pathway-regulated glycoprotein assay can reach 14.27 pM for the reductive N-deoxygenation reaction and 71.63 pM for the oxidative N-deacetylation reaction, respectively. Collectively, our proposed method may offer an innovative inspiration of reaction pathway-regulated glycoprotein assay, and it can also be adapted for rational substitution of substrate molecules to broaden its signal reflections in versatile glycoprotein analysis.

The practical application of magnesium hydride (MgH 2 ) was seriously limited by its high desorption temperature and slow desorption kinetics. In this study, a bullet-like catalyst based on vanadium related MOFs (MOFs-V) was successfully synthesized and doped with MgH 2 by ball milling to improve its hydrogen storage performance. Microstructure analysis demonstrated that the as-synthesized MOFs was consisted of V 2 O 3 with a bullet-like structure. After adding 7wt% MOFs-V, the initial desorption temperature of MgH 2 was reduced from 340.0 to 190.6°C. Besides, the MgH 2 +7wt%MOFs-V composite released 6.4wt% H 2 within 5 min at 300°C. Hydrogen uptake was started at 60°C under 3200 kPa hydrogen pressure for the 7wt% MOFs-V containing sample. The desorption and absorption apparent activity energies of the MgH 2 +7wt%MOFs-V composite were calculated to be (98.4 ± 2.9) and (30.3 ± 2.1) kJ·mol −1 , much lower than (157.5 ± 3.3) and (78.2 ± 3.4) kJ·mol −1 for the as-prepared MgH 2 . The MgH 2 +7wt%MOFs-V composite exhibited superior cyclic property. During the 20 cycles isothermal dehydrogenation and hydrogenation experiments, the hydrogen storage capacity stayed almost unchanged. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectrometer (XPS) measurements confirmed the presence of metallic vanadium in the MgH 2 +7wt%MOFs-V composite, which served as catalytic unit to markedly improve the hydrogen storage properties of Mg/MgH 2 system.

The interfacial bonding performance between carbon fibers and the resin matrix is a critical factor limiting the performance optimization of carbon fiber reinforced polymer composites. This work utilizes Fe 3+ as the iron source and fumaric acid as the organic ligand to construct the precursor of iron-based metal–organic framework (MIL-88-A) through in situ growth on carbon fiber surfaces. Subsequently, the grafting of magnetic Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles onto carbon fiber surfaces was accomplished via a pyrolytic treatment. These modified carbon fiber reinforced epoxy composites were then fabricated using vacuum-assisted resin infusion (VARI). The results indicate that the interfacial shear strength (IFSS) and interlaminar shear strength (ILSS) of the Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticle-modified CF/EP composites reached 106.4 MPa and 68.8 MPa, respectively, representing significant improvements of 63.7% and 48.9% compared to those of the desized carbon fiber composites. This enhancement can be attributed to the fact that the magnetic Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles not only improved the wettability between the carbon fiber surface and the epoxy resin but also increased the surface roughness of the fibers, thereby enhancing mechanical interlocking and stress transfer efficiency in the interfacial region. Meanwhile, owing to the presence of magnetic Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles, the CF/EP composites exhibit outstanding electromagnetic shielding performance with an average shielding effectiveness of 47.1 dB in the X-band. This study offers new design insights for improving the interfacial properties of carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites and expanding their multifunctional applications.

To develop high-efficiency catalysts for solid propellants, this study synthesized monometallic (FcHz-Co) and bimetallic (FcHz-CoNi, FcHz-CoPb) MOFs using a ferrocene-based ligand (FcHz). Ferrocene derivatives are classic combustion promoters for solid propellants, while MOFs optimize ferrocene dispersion and enrich active sites-key to enhancing catalytic performance. Infrared spectroscopy, SEM, and XPS characterizations showed FcHz forms stable MOFs via N (from -NH₂/C = N groups)-metal coordination, while the ferrocene moiety, core combustion-promoting group, remains intact. Metal electron affinity (EA) is the core factor regulating material properties: FcHz-CoNi (Co: 0.662 eV, Ni: 1.157 eV) has well-dispersed spherical morphology (50.1 m²/g specific surface area) and balanced electron distribution due to bimetallic EA synergy; FcHz-Co (Co: 0.662 eV) has cubic morphology with secondary performance (limited by single-metal EA); FcHz-CoPb (Pb: 0.356 eV) agglomerates (11.2 m²/g specific surface area) due to low EA and large Pb²⁺ radius, showing the poorest performance. Catalytic tests confirmed FcHz-CoNi optimally promotes AP thermal decomposition: it reduces AP’s high-temperature decomposition peak from 441 ℃ to 329 ℃, boosts heat release to 1887 J/g, and lowers apparent activation energy to 89.49 kJ/mol. This study provides support for new propellant catalyst design and proposes a targeted strategy centered on “metal EA matching”.

Aflatoxin B1 is one of the most toxic carcinogens and has been classified as a group I carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer. AFB1 is widely distributed in the natural environment and may be present in various grains and products. Therefore, it is significant to establish a strategy for in site detection of AFB1 accurately. Herein, a portable electrochemical aptasensor was developed for accurate detection of AFB1. A screen-printed electrode was selected as the working electrode, which improves the portability and practical application of the aptasensor. The use of gold-nanoparticles/FeCo-MOFs as electrode modification materials improves both the electron transfer efficiency and the large number of connected signal probes. Daisy-like bimetallic PtPd nanoflowers have rich specific surface area, providing numerous sites for loading of the signal molecule thionine. Additionally, the catalytic hairpin assembly cycle amplification strategy was implemented to effectively enhance the sensitivity of the aptasensor. Under optimal conditions, the sensor exhibited a detection range of 0.001–500 ng/mL and a limit of detection of 0.818 pg/mL. The developed aptasensor exhibited positive analytical performance in real samples, quality control samples and toxin samples produced by aspergillus flavus. This work advances the development of portable, sensitive and in site analytical methods, with promising applications in food safety field testing.

The development of efficient visible-light-driven photocatalysts is one of the critically important issues for solar hydrogen production. Herein, high-efficiency visible-light-driven In 2 O 3 /CdZnS hybrid photocatalysts are explored by a facile oil-bath method, in which ultrafine CdZnS nanoparticles are anchored on NH 2 -MIL-68-derived fusiform In 2 O 3 mesoporous nanorods. It is disclosed that the as-prepared In 2 O 3 /CdZnS hybrid photocatalysts exhibit enhanced visible-light harvesting, improves charges transfer and separation as well as abundant active sites. Correspondingly, their visible-light-driven H 2 production rate is significantly enhanced for more than 185 times to that of pristine In 2 O 3 nanorods, and superior to most of In 2 O 3 -based photocatalysts ever reported, representing their promising applications in advanced photocatalysts.

Xenon (Xe) and krypton (Kr) have a variety of medical, industrial, and environmental applications, but their separation is difficult due to their chemical inertness and similar physical properties. This study presents a dual-functional modulation strategy for designing halogen-decorated pillar-layered MOFs (LIFM-DMOF-X 2 , X = F, Cl, Br) to improve the efficiency of Xe/Kr separation. The incorporation of halogenated terephthalate linkers (BDC-X 2 ) and DABCO pillars enabled the frameworks to synergistically control the pore geometry and surface polarity via the steric and electronic effects of the halogens. LIFM-DMOF-Cl 2 exhibited optimal performance with a Xe uptake of 3.58 mmol g −1 (298 K, 1.0 bar) due to its balance between pore size (6.14 Å) and high surface area (1259.8 m 2 g −1 ). Dynamic breakthrough experiments confirmed the practical efficacy of this MOF, which showed a Xe retention time of up to 21 min/g and reusability for five cycles. GCMC simulations revealed multidimensional Xe-binding sites, including halogen bonds and π-interactions, with brominated variants showing exceptional polarization effects ( Q st = 20.77 kJ mol −1 ). This work demonstrates the promise of halogen engineering in MOFs for nuclear off-gas treatment and noble gas capture.

The efficiency of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation in photocatalytic processes critically depends on the regulation of electron transfer from generation to utilization. Herein, a holistic electron transfer pathway is constructed within a metal–organic frameworks (MOFs)-derived Cu-Cu x O/TiO 2 composite to achieve superior PMS activation. The incorporated Cu species serve as dynamic redox mediators, enabling an efficient non-photoinduced electron transfer pathway via Cu 0 &Cu n+ cycling. Simultaneously, the Cu-induced bandgap narrowing and abundant oxygen vacancies significantly enhance visible-light absorption and facilitate the rapid trapping of photogenerated electrons. This synergy establishes a continuous and highly efficient electron transfer from photoexcitation to catalytic reaction. The optimized catalyst Cu-Cu x O/TiO 2 -2 delivers an exceptional tetracycline hydrochloride (TC) degradation rate constant of 38.26 × 10 −3 min −1 , representing a 2.04-fold enhancement over pristine TiO 2 (18.74 × 10 −3 min −1 ). Mechanistic studies confirm that the radical ( • OH/ • SO 4 − ) and non-radical (h⁺) pathways function synergistically in the Cu-Cu x O/TiO 2 -2/PMS system, collectively enabling highly efficient TC degradation. Three plausible degradation routes are proposed based on intermediates identification and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Furthermore, economic analysis is conducted to transition from mechanistic insight to practical value, assessing the commercial potential of the Cu-Cu x O/TiO 2 -2/PMS photodegradation system. This work provides valuable insights into the design of efficient composite catalysts through regulated electron transfer via dynamic redox cycling coupled with oxygen vacancy engineering.

Recently, the anion-functioned or anion-doped Co/Ni hydroxide materials have attracted widespread concern in the scientific field due to their dramatically enhanced performances in energy storage and conversion application. Herein, we reported effective metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) etching strategy to construct the MOFs derived cobalt–nickel hydroxide carbonate (CNHC) double-shell microspheres for boosted supercapacitor performance. The etching process is driven by the CO32– and OH– anions via the hydrolysis of urea, and the organic ligand in MOFs is gradually substituted by the CO32– and OH– anions to form the thermodynamically stable Co/Ni(CO3)x(OH)y phase. Then, the hierarchical double-shell structure constructed by a self-supported Co/Ni(CO3)x(OH)y nanosheet is accessed by the Ostwald ripening process, which provides abundant channels and abundant accessible active centers for enhanced electrochemical reaction kinetics. The optimized CNHC-12h electrode demonstrates a high specific capacitance of 1233.6 F g–1 at 1 A g–1 and outstanding rate performance of 80% when the current density is expanded ten times. In addition, the hybrid supercapacitor device assembled by CNHC-12h//AC achieves the high energy density of 41.8 Wh kg–1 at the power density of 0.8 kW kg–1 and can operate the thermometer normally for 20 min with 5 s charging time. The construction of MOFs derived basic carbonate materials will provide a possibility to synthesize high capacitance performance anions-functioned hydroxide electrode materials for energy storage devices and practical application.

A molecularly imprinted electrochemical sensor (MIECS) for trace determination of taurine was developed. The sensor was constructed by electropolymerizing dopamine and o-phenylenediamine as dual monomers on the surface of amino-functionalized iron-based MOFs and graphene composite-modified electrode. The porous structure and large specific surface area of amino-functionalized iron-based MOFs not only increase the number of imprinted sites, but also facilitate the binding of molecularly imprinted films. The presence of dual monomers can increase the binding sites during the formation of imprinted films. The linear range of this sensor for taurine detection is 1.00 × 10 −14 –1.00 × 10 −8 mol L −1 with a determination limit of 3.20 × 10 −15 mol L −1 . The proposed MIECS was successfully applied to quantify the amount of taurine in human serum sample with good recovery values from 97.3 to 113%. Graphical Abstract

The environment and human health are in danger due to the long-term enrichment and buildup of organic pesticides, dyes, and harmful microbes in wastewater. The development of functional materials that are efficient for treating wastewater remains a significant problem. Eco-friendly hexagonal spindle-shaped Fe-MOFs (Hs-FeMOFs) were created in this study under the influence of cationic copolymer (PMSt). The mechanism of crystal growth and development of its unique morphology were described after looking into impact factors for the ideal circumstances and being characterized by XRD, TEM, XPS, and other techniques. It revealed that Hs-FeMOFs possess an enormous supply of adsorption active sites, a strong electropositivity, and the nanometer tip. Then, typical organic pollutants, such as herbicides and mixed dyes, as well as biological pollutants bacteria, were chosen to assess its efficacy in wastewater treatment. It was discovered that the pendimethalin could be quickly removed in wastewater and the removal rate reached 100% within 10 min. In separation of mixed dyes, the retention rate of malachite green (MG) reached 92.3% in 5 min and with a minimum inhibitory concentration of 0.8 mg/mL and demonstrated strong activity due to the presence of cationic copolymers. In actual water matrix, Hs-FeMOF could also play excellent adsorption and antibacterial activity. In summary, a novel, environmentally friendly MOF material with good activity was successfully created by cationic copolymer induction. It offers a fresh approach to develop functional materials in wastewater treatment.

The polyfuoroalkyl substances, especially perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), are emerging as harmful environmental micropollutants that are known to globally contaminate water, air, and soil resources. Herein considering the urgent demand for the sensitive detection and effective degradation of PFOA present in water environment, a novel molecular imprinting polymer (MIP) MOFs (Co/Fe)-driven carbon nanofiber (Co/Fe@CNF) electrode has been developed for electrochemical detection and electro-Fenton (EF) degradation of PFOA. MIP was formed by one-pot step by electro-polymerization of the pyrrole in the presence of PFOA template on the Co/Fe@CNF. The MIP has a strong adsorption force on PFOA for the special O–H-π hydrogen bond between PFOA and the imprinting site, helped PFOA to access the surface of electrode. Therefore, the resulting MIP Co/Fe@CNF was able to detect PFOA with a good linear response in the range of 1 × 10 -8 –9 × 10 -5 M, and the limit of detection (LOD) was reached 1.073 × 10 -9 M. Moreover, the imprinted cavity on MIP can precisely adsorb PFOA and its intermediates to shorten the transmission distance between free radicals and targets, which enhanced the degradation ability in the EF process, and the targeted degradation efficiency reached 93% with 180 min.
