Photocathodic protection has emerged as a promising green strategy for mitigating metal corrosion; however, its practical application is still limited by the insufficient visible-light response of conventional semiconductors and the rapid recombination of photogenerated charge carriers. To address these challenges, Co x Ni 1− x -zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF)/TiO 2 nanotube array composite photoanodes were fabricated and applied for the photocathodic protection of 304 stainless steel (304SS). By introducing different proportions of Co 2+ and Ni 2+ into the ZIF framework, the electronic structure of the bimetallic ZIFs was effectively regulated. Co 0.5 Ni 0.5 -ZIF exhibited the most favorable band alignment with TiO 2 , enabling the formation of a type-II heterojunction and promoting efficient separation of photogenerated charge carriers. Under illumination in 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution, the optimized composite photoanode induced a negative shift of the open-circuit potential of 304SS to −0.44 V and reduced the corrosion current density by approximately one order of magnitude. Furthermore, pitting corrosion was significantly suppressed, with the pitting potential shifting from −0.50 V to −2.43 V. Long-term immersion tests under natural light conditions demonstrated stable photocathodic protection performance for up to 28 days.

2D nanocontainers are prepared with barrier, corrosion inhibition and monitoring. • BZ-P/EP coating shows higher .|Z| f = 0.01 Hz of 4.1 × 10 10 Ω cm 2 after 60 days immersion. • PH-responsive ZIF-8 enables the rapid release of Phen under acidic conditions. • Visual corrosion warning is achieved via Fe 2+ –Phen coordination. To overcome the limitations of conventional anticorrosion coatings, which typically exhibit single functionality and lack early-stage corrosion warning capability, this study presents the design and fabrication of a two-dimensional intelligent nanocontainer system. Specifically, a pH-responsive zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF-8) was grown in situ on hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) nanosheets, and subsequently loaded with 1,10-phenanthroline (Phen), enabling the integration of physical barrier protection, active corrosion inhibition, and visual corrosion monitoring. UV–vis absorption spectra and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) results demonstrate that the BZ-P nanocontainers not only provide effective corrosion inhibition but also exhibit rapid, pH-triggered release of Phen in mildly acidic conditions. After incorporation into an epoxy matrix, the resulting BZ-P/EP composite coating exhibits a high low-frequency impedance modulus (|Z| f = 0.01 Hz ) of 4.1 × 10 10 Ω cm 2 after 60 days of immersion in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution, which is approximately 2270 times higher than that of the neat epoxy coating. This improvement is accompanied by a significant reduction in oxygen content on the underlying steel surface (from 19.56 wt% to 0.62 wt%), indicating markedly suppressed corrosion. Under damaged coating conditions, the BZ-P/EP system maintains effective corrosion protection, as evidenced by a relatively high impedance modulus and low local admittance. This enhanced performance can be attributed to the synergistic effects of BN and ZIF-8, which combines structural barrier reinforcement with active corrosion inhibition. Furthermore, the released Phen molecules at damaged sites coordinate with Fe 2+ ions to form a red complex, enabling rapid and intuitive visual detection of corrosion initiation. This work provides a novel strategy for developing intelligent coating systems that integrate corrosion protection, active corrosion inhibition, and real-time monitoring, offering significant potential for applications in harsh service environments.

A series of PANI@ZIF-67 derivative/SEP composites are rationally designed via a stepwise optimization strategy. • The “reinforcing skeleton/skin” structure simultaneously constructs rich conductive networks and interfacial polarization while effectively avoid agglomeration of ZIF-67 derivative and PANI nanoparticles. • The optimized sample achieves a RL min of −57.67 dB at 2.09 mm, and with EAB of up to 4.87 GHz at 1.72 mm. • This work offers a feasible strategy for high-performance sepiolite-based microwave absorbers. Microwave absorbers with strong attenuation, broad bandwidth and thin matching thickness are highly desired for electromagnetic (EM) protection and stealth applications. Herein, sepiolite-supported PANI@ZIF-67 derivative ternary composites with a reinforcing skeleton/skin heterostructure were fabricated through room-temperature precipitation, thermal conversion and in-situ chemical oxidative polymerization. Sepiolite acted as a one-dimensional internal skeleton and heterogeneous nucleation platform, suppressing the agglomeration of ZIF-67 derivative nanoparticles and promoting multiple scattering of incident EM waves. The conductive PANI skin introduced continuous conductive pathways and abundant interfaces, enhancing conductive loss and interfacial polarization. By regulating the sepiolite content, the EM parameters were optimized, enabling a favorable balance between impedance matching and attenuation capability. The optimized composite delivered a minimum reflection loss of −57.67 dB at 12.16 GHz with a thickness of 2.09 mm and an effective absorption bandwidth of 4.87 GHz at only 1.72 mm. Surface OVs act as robust atomic anchors to capture CoNi-ZIF on BiVO 4 . • Defect anchoring drives ∼4.0 e⁻ transfer for efficient charge separation. • Built-in electric field significantly lowers the OER activation energy barrier. • The engineered interface yields 4.16 mA cm⁻ 2 with an exceptional 97.6% stability. • This heterojunction achieves dual PEC water splitting and MB degradation. Bismuth vanadate (BiVO 4 ) is extensively investigated for solar-driven photoelectrochemical (PEC) applications. However, its performance is largely limited by severe bulk charge recombination and sluggish surface reaction kinetics. In this work, a strategy combining defect engineering with in-situ self-assembly was developed to construct a planar photoanode, which integrates an oxygen-vacancy-rich BiVO 4 (OV-BVO) skeleton with a strongly coupled bimetallic CoNi-zeolitic imidazolate framework (CoNi-ZIF) cocatalyst layer. Experimental characterizations combined with density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal that the introduced oxygen vacancies (OVs) play dual critical roles. In the bulk, OVs induce V 4 ⁺ polaron states, significantly enhancing intrinsic conductivity and visible-light absorption. At the interface, OVs serve as atomic anchoring sites, inducing a substantial electron transfer of ∼4.0 e and generating a strong built-in electric field (maximum photovoltage of 418.1 mV). This efficiently drives photogenerated holes into the CoNi-ZIF layer, achieving a surface hole injection efficiency exceeding 80%. Consequently, the optimized OV-BVO/CoNi-ZIF photoanode delivers a photocurrent density of 4.16 mA cm⁻ 2 at 1.23 V vs. RHE (2.6 times that of Pure BVO) and maintains stable continuous operation without structural degradation. This study elucidates the defect-mediated charge transfer mechanism at the atomic scale, providing specific design strategies for advanced photoanodes in solar energy conversion. Abstract Commercial hemoperfusion adsorbents for hyperbilirubinemia are mainly polystyrene (PS) anion exchange resins due to their high mechanical strength, satisfactory physicochemical stability, and low cost, enabling bilirubin removal via electrostatic interactions. However, these resins pose two major issues in clinical use: heparin binding and coagulation activation. In this work, we developed moderately hydrophilic gigaporous polystyrene (mHGPS) microspheres with a surface that balances hemocompatibility and hydrophobic bilirubin adsorption, and then immobilized ZIF-8 in situ to obtain mHGPS@ZIF-8 composite microspheres for synergy-enhanced selective bilirubin adsorption. The composite microspheres were featured with through-connected gigapores (∼1.05 μm), high porosity (64.02%), high permeability (7.31 × 10–11 m2) and satisfactory hemocompatibility with a hemolysis rate of 1.67%. Compared to mHGPS microspheres, the mHGPS@ZIF-8 composite microspheres exhibited a 2.6-fold increase in the adsorption capacity for bilirubin (from 53.1 mg/g to 138.9 mg/g). Notably, an even greater 3.1-fold enhancement was achieved for albumin-bound bilirubin (from 18.7 mg/g to 57.8 mg/g). Moreover, benefiting from the gigaporous structure of mHGPS microspheres, mHGPS@ZIF-8 composite microspheres exhibited rapid bilirubin removal kinetics, removing 89.0% of bilirubin within 60 min during simulated hemoperfusion, with minimal albumin loss (1.2%). This work establishes a strategy for designing high-performance bilirubin adsorbents with significant potential for treating hyperbilirubinemia.

In recent years, transition metal-based catalytic materials have garnered considerable attention, particularly those exhibiting high catalytic efficiency toward both the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). In this work, a self-supporting ternary transition metal phosphide (CoFeNi0.2P) with a hierarchical structure was synthesized using the Prussian blue analogue (PBA)/zeolitic imidazolate framework-L (ZIF-L) template. Benefiting from the hierarchical structure of the PBA/ZIF-L precursor and the electronic structure modulation induced by Ni doping, the resulting CoFeNi0.2P demonstrates impressive bifunctional electrocatalytic activity. Specifically, in 1 M KOH electrolyte, the CoFeNi0.2P catalyst requires an overpotential of only 88 mV to deliver 10 mA cm−2for the HER and 248 mV to achieve 50 mA cm−2for the OER. Moreover, it demonstrates satisfactory stability toward both the HER and OER. When integrated into a two-electrode electrolyzer, CoFeNi0.2P enables a current density of 10 mA cm−2at a cell voltage of 1.59 V, maintaining robust performance for over 25 h. This study provides a feasible strategy for the rational design of hierarchical electrocatalysts for efficient overall water splitting.

Galdieria sulphuraria (GS) show distinctive physiological traits For the removal of metal ions in aqueous solution, Algal powder have a limited capacity for uranium adsorption. This research institute introduces a innovative approach, The surface electronegativity of GS and the particle size of metal-organic framework (MOF) were modified. ZiF-8 was effectively synthesized on the surface of microalgae to adsorption of uranium (VI) from aqueous solutions. Improve the uranium adsorption capacity of microalgal biomaterials, Characterization analyses conducted using a microplate reader, SEM, XRD, FT-IR, and XPS collectively demonstrate the successful assembly of the MOF on the surface of GS and adsorption of uranium. The results of the adsorption experiments demonstrate that the adsorption capacity of microalgae self-assembly ZIF-8 is markedly superior to that of the unmodified microalgae. The material has the highest adsorption capacity at pH 5. The adsorption behavior aligns with the Sips isotherm model, with a maximum adsorption capacity of approximately 908 mg·g −1 . Kinetic experiments are accurately described by the pseudo-second-order model, The adsorption process is predominantly governed by chemisorption. The thermodynamic parameters (ΔG < 0,ΔH > 0) show that the adsorption process is spontaneous and endothermic in nature. The adsorption capacity exhibits an increase as the temperature rises. This material exhibits effective stability and maintains a high adsorption capacity after undergoing four consecutive adsorption cycles. Compared with inorganic materials, bio-inorganic hybrid materials exhibit Excellent potential for environmental compatibility.

Self-warning coatings are functional materials capable of converting subtle microscopic corrosion signals into macroscopically detectable optical responses; however, the high cost of conventional fillers and the complexity of core–shell fabrication hinder their large-scale application. To address this, we developed a composite material based on self-assembled ZnO quantum dots@ZIF-8 (ZnO QDs@ZIF-8) for low-cost corrosion monitoring of bronze artifacts. The material was synthesized via ultrasound-assisted preparation of ZnO quantum dots, followed by one-step encapsulation with ZIF-8 using 2-methylimidazole, resulting in a uniform core–shell structure. This process is simple and efficient (completed within 1 h at a cost of $0.05 per gram), and the resulting composite enables highly sensitive detection of Cu2+ through a fluorescence quenching mechanism (LOD = 78 nM). When integrated into an acrylic coating, the material can convert invisible corrosion signals into visible optical changes, achieving self-warning of corrosion. This offers a scalable solution for cultural heritage preservation and holds potential for extension to industrial monitoring systems.

Hazardous formaldehyde and acetaldehyde removal remains a critical challenge in volatile organic compounds (VOCs) control technologies. Adsorption-based technologies offer distinct advantages for VOCs removal in practical applications due to their operational simplicity, energy efficiency, and adaptability to complex gas matrices. Although metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) exhibit superior adsorption capacity for VOCs compared to conventional adsorbents, their widespread industrial application has been hindered by high production costs and limited stability under humid conditions. This study prepared attapulgite (ATP)-functionalized MOF composites that synergistically enhanced both VOCs adsorption capacity at static (formaldehyde: 185 mg/g; acetaldehyde: 196 mg/g at RH = 80%) and dynamic (Breakthrough time for formaldehyde and acetaldehyde: 36 min and 30 min; penetrating adsorption capacity for formaldehyde and acetaldehyde: 2.126 mg/g and 5.258 mg/g), overcoming the intrinsic moisture sensitivity and scalability challenges of pristine MOFs for industrial VOCs abatement. Kinetic analysis confirms that VOCs adsorption on the ATP-MOF composites occurs primarily through spontaneous physical adsorption mechanisms. This study demonstrates an innovative strategy of hybridizing MOFs with natural ATP minerals, offering a viable pathway to enhance the practical deployment of MOF-based adsorbents in complex real-world environments.

The contamination of water resources by high concentrations of organic dyes poses severe threats to human health, making the removal of these pollutants critical. Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) have shown promising potential in dye adsorption due to their high surface area and chemical stability. Zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8), a typical MOF, is known for its thermal stability and is frequently used in removing organic dyes. To enhance its adsorption performance, ZIF-8 is often carbonized to form porous carbon-based materials. However, carbonized ZIF-8 (CZ) often demonstrates restricted adsorption capacity and sluggish kinetics. To address these limitations, we chemically modified low-temperature carbonized ZIF-8 (CZ-550) with polyethyleneimine (PEI) using cyanuric chloride (CC) as a crosslinking agent, producing a novel composite (CZ@PEI/CC-7) featuring abundant amine-rich active sites for adsorption. This study evaluated the adsorption performance of CZ@PEI/CC-7 in removing methyl orange (MO) dye. Our findings reveal that CZ@PEI/CC-7 exhibits accelerated adsorption kinetics aligning with the pseudo-second-order kinetic model, while its isotherms fit the Freundlich and Temkin models, highlighting a favorable multilayer adsorption. Significantly, CZ@PEI/CC-7 achieved an adsorption capacity of 3150 mg/g for MO, compared to 1100 mg/g for unmodified CZ-550. Furthermore, the composite demonstrated excellent acid-base stability across a broad pH range (2–12), retaining structural integrity and adsorption efficiency. These findings suggest that CZ@PEI/CC-7 is a promising candidate for efficient MO removal from water.

Sodium-sulfur (Na-S) batteries are promising next-generation energy storage systems due to their high theoretical energy density and low cost. Nevertheless, two critical challenges hinder their practical application: (1) safety risks arising from sodium dendrite growth, and (2) energy loss (via polysulfide shuttle effects and capacity fade) leading to rapid performance degradation. In this work, we address these issues with a composite gel polymer electrolyte (GPE), which is fabricated by integrating metal–organic framework–modified polyacrylonitrile (PAN) electrospun membranes with polyethylene oxide (PEO) denoted as PEO/PAN@ZIF-67 (PPZ). Pure PAN spun film with PEO is named PAN/PEO (PP). The resulting electrolyte exhibits an ionic conductivity of 4.2 × 10 −4 S cm −1 and an enhanced Na + transference number ( t Na + ${t}_{{\mathrm{Na}}^{+}}$ ) of 0.384. Symmetric Na cells demonstrate stable cycling for 400 h with a low overpotential of 130 mV. Moreover, we used sulfurized polyacrylonitrile (SPAN) as the cathode material. The SPAN/PPZ GPE/Na full cell retains a high reversible capacity of 691 mAh g −1 after 500 cycles at 1 A g −1 with minimal capacity decay. Both Na/PPZ GPE/Na and SPAN/PPZ GPE/Na configurations exhibit exceptional performance at 50°C, attributed to the dual functionality of the composite GPE: effective suppression of polysulfide shuttling and stabilization of the Na anode interface, thereby enhancing safety and cycling stability.
