Citric acid capped CdS quantum dots (CA-CdS QDs), a new assembled fluorescent probe for copper ions (Cu2+), was synthesized successfully by a simple hydrothermal method. In this work, the fluorescence sensor for the detection of heavy and transition metal (HTM) ions has been extensively studied in aqueous solution. The results of the present study indicate that the obtained CA-CdS QDs could detect Cu2+with high sensitivity and selectivity. It found that the existence of Cu2+has a significant fluorescence quenching with a large red shifted (from greenish-yellow to yellowish-orange), but not in the presence of 17 other HTM ions. As a result, Cu2S, the energy level below the CdS conduction band, could be formed at the surface of the CA-CdS QDs and leads to the quenching of fluorescence of CA-CdS QDs. Under optimal conditions, the copper ions detection range using the synthesized fluorescence sensor was 1.0 × 10‒8M to 5.0 × 10‒5M and the limit of detection (LOD) is 9.2 × 10‒9M. Besides, the as-synthesized CA-CdS QDs sensor exhibited good selectivity toward Cu2+relative to other common metal ions. Thus, the CA-CdS QDs has potential applications for detecting Cu2+in real water samples. Keywords:fluorescence sensor;citric acid;CdS quantum dots;copper ions;high selectivity

A new synthetic method was used to develop a CdS/MoS2 heterojunction. Cd-MOF was coated onto the surface of MoS2 flowers to construct a core–shell MoS2@Cd-MOF. Thioacetamide was used as a sulfur source to sulfurize the MoS2@Cd-MOF to form a CdS/MoS2 heterojunction. Since the Cd2+ ions were highly ordered and separated by the organic ligands of the Cd-MOF shell, the as-synthesized CdS/MoS2 heterojunction possessed a large surface area and intimate contact at the heterogeneous interface with a uniform loading of CdS nanoparticles on the MoS2 flowers. Consequently, the CdS/MoS2 heterojunction exhibited a significantly enhanced photocatalytic H2 evolution rate of average 5587 μmol h−1 g−1 under UV-visible light irradiation.

In the present work, we reported the fabrication of CdS decorated mesoporous SiC hollow nanofibers for efficient visible-light-driven photocatalytic hydrogen production. The mesoporous SiC hollow nanofibers were firstly fabricated by electrospinning, followed by hydrothermal treatment to introduce the CdS nanoparticles decorated on the preformed fiber matrix, The resultant CdS/SiC hybrid photocatalysts were systematically characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) and N 2 adsorption. The as-fabricated CdS/SiC hybrids exhibited a robust stability with a release rate up to ~ 124.65 µmol h −1 g −1 for photocatalytic H 2 evolution driven by visible light, which was profoundly enhanced for more than 16 times to that of pristine SiC counterparts, and comparable to the state-of-the-art one of SiC-based photocatalysts.

Radial 1-D nano-heterojunctions have distinct optoelectronic properties. However, their complex fabrication process is still the bottleneck of device applications. Herein, a facile atomic layer deposition (ALD) method was used to coat a polycrystalline CdS thin film with high uniformity and controllable thickness on the surface of the as-synthesized p-type ZnSe nanowires, for fabricating radial 1-D ZnSe-CdS nano-heterojunctions. The nano-heterojunctions exhibited excellent optoelectronic properties. Under blue/violet light, the nano-heterojunctions obtained a response radio of ∼5 × 10 3 , a responsitivity of ∼1.43 A/W, a gain of ∼3.78 and a detectivity of ∼0.57 × 10 12 cmHz 1/2 W −1 at zero bias. Furthermore, the nano-heterojunction also showed obvious photovoltaic characteristic with a power conversion efficiency of ∼0.96%. This method is expected to play an important role in nano-heterojunction construction and their device applications.

Cadmium-caused environmental pollution and diseases have always been worldwide problems. Thus it is extremely urgent to establish a cheap, rapid, simple and selective detection method for trace cadmium in drinking water . In this study, a fluorescence “turn-on” method based on ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA)-etched CdTe@CdS quantum dots (QDs) was designed to detect Cd 2+ . High resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) were utilized for chemical and structural characterization of the as-prepared QDs. Based on chemical etching of EDTA on the surface of CdTe@CdS QDs, specific Cd 2+ recognition sites were produced, and then results in fluorescence quenching . The introduction of Cd 2+ could identify these sites and restore the fluorescence of the EDTA-QDs system. Under the optimum conditions, the nanoprobe shows a linear response range from 0.05 to 9 μM with a very low detection limit of 0.032 μM. In addition, the reported fluorescence probe in this work displays a good selectivity for trace Cd 2+ over other metal ions and an admirable practicability in real water samples.

Selective activation of saturated C–H bond in hydrocarbons to produce high-value-added chemicals is of great significance for chemical synthesis and transformation. Herein, we present a facile procedure to achieve Ni-doped CdS nanoparticles with mixed (cubic and hexagonal) phases, as well as its application to the photocatalytic activation of saturated primary C–H bond of toluene and its derivatives. The photocatalytic oxidation rate of toluene into benzaldehyde of formation reached up to 216.7 μmolh−1g−1 under visible light irradiation. The excellent photocatalytic performance of Ni(II)-doped CdS [Ni(II)/CdS] can be attributed to its unique structural assembly with cubic and hexagonal phases and also the addition of Ni ions, together taking effect in promoting the separation of photogenerated charge carriers. The possible reaction mechanism for the photocatalytic selective oxidation is illustrated in this work. The band width of the as-prepared mixed phase CdS is reduced, which can effectively expand the response range and improve photocatalytic performance.

CoSe2,as a kind of co-catalyst, would replace noble metals element to dope pure CdS. The CoSe2/CdS photocatalyst could be synthesized by simple physical mixing. With the introduction of CoSe2, especially 30% CoSe2/CdS, hydrogen production would be about 500 μmol within 5 h, five times that of pure CdS under the same conditions. The CoSe2/CdS photocatalyst could bear four cycles of hydrogen evolution and sustain the hydrogen production, with a minor decrease. In other words, the electron transition velocity would surge along with the introduction of CoSe2particles. The CoSe2could be deemed as the predator and exit of electrons to inspire the detachment of the hole-electron pairs and relieve the recombination of the hole-electron pairs.Keywords:CoSe2clusters;CdS nanorod;hydrogen evolution;photocatalysis

In this study, a novel and highly efficient ternary photocatalytic ZnFe 2 O 4 /TiO 2 /CDs nanocomposite was successfully synthesized by a hydrothermal method. The properties and structures of the samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FT-IR), and photoluminescence spectrum (PL). The UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectrum was used to demonstrate that carbon quantum dots could increase the absorption of visible light wavelengths. When compared with TiO 2 /3.00 wt%CDs and ZnFe 2 O 4 /TiO 2 nanocomposites, the ternary photocatalysts exhibited the enhanced photocatalytic activity under solar-spectrum irradiation. A low CDs content of 3.00 wt% in the ternary photocatalysts possessed excellent performance in the decomposition of Rhodamine B (RhB). Act as donator and receiver, CDs can efficiently improve the ability of electron transfer and separate the electron-hole pairs. OH and O 2 − were confirmed to be involved in the photocatalytic degradation of RhB base on the Electron spin resonance (ESR) tests, and the photocatalytic mechanism of the ZnFe 2 O 4 /TiO 2 /3.00 wt%CDs was proposed. After four sequential operational cycles, the ZnFe 2 O 4 /TiO 2 /CDs maintained its photocatalytic efficiency, indicating its high photocatalytic stability. Therefore, our results provide a high efficient photocatalytic nanocomposite that synthetized by a facile method, and have implications in the removal of environmental persistent pollutants under ternary photocatalysts mediated solar degradation

This article presents a facile method to prepare CdS/SiO 2 composite microspheres and their good catalytic properties. In our method, monodispersed SiO 2 particles bearing amino groups (–NH 2 ) were synthesized at first and then used as carriers to load nanosized CdS particles to form CdS/SiO 2 composite microspheres. With the addition of CdAc 2 solution to the SiO 2 dispersion, Cd 2+ was attracted to the surfaces of the SiO 2 particles through coordination interaction, and then thioacetamide was added to the dispersion. By heating, S 2− released and reacted with the Cd 2+ , CdS/SiO 2 composite microspheres were obtained accordingly. The photocatalytic properties of the as-prepared composite microspheres were investigated as well. It was found that the composite microspheres have excellent photocatalytic activities for the degradation of dyes comparing with the commercial P-25 TiO 2 catalysts. After using and recycling for three times, the photocatalytic performance still remained very well.

Until now, there have been many reports on the regulation of inorganic metal ions on the catalytic activity of nanozymes, but few reports on the regulation of anions (such as NO 2 − ) on enzyme activity. In this work, a copper-molybdenum doped carbon dots (Cu, Mo-CDs) with peroxidase-like (POD) activity was synthesized by simple one-step microwave digestion method. The Cu, Mo-CDs + NO 2 − system can promote 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) oxidizing to blue oxidative product (oxTMB) due to the formation of ∙NO 2 free radical. While Hg 2+ was introduced into the system, the POD-like activity of Cu, Mo-CDs + NO 2 − system was inhibited due to the strong interaction and the electron transfer between Cu, Mo-CDs and Hg 2+ . The formation of ∙NO 2 and the electron transfer capability of Cu, Mo-CDs + Hg 2+ were confirmed through ESR spectra and FMN experiments. The bioenzyme-free colorimetric assay based on Cu, Mo-CDs nanozyme is used for detection of NO 2 − and Hg 2+ , showing lower detection limit (LOD) of 1.63 µg/L for NO 2 − , 0.13 µg/L for Hg 2+ , respectively and good recovery from 90.79 to 108.90%. The work paves a new way to design a nanozyme-based colorimetric protocol for traces NO 2 − and Hg 2+ residues in food analysis.

Curcumin has been widely employed in various fields, but excessive intake may cause tissue necrosis and pose a serious threat to people’s lives and health. Hence, it is crucial to rapidly and precisely detect the content of curcumin. In present research, CdS@C heterostructure materials were successfully prepared through a one-pot solvothermal reaction strategy, utilizing glucose as the carbon source. Simultaneously, polydopamine thin films (ePDA) were successfully deposited on the surface of CdS@C-modified electrodes by the cyclic voltammetry (CV) method. A photoelectrochemical sensor based on the polydopamine membrane-coated CdS@C core–shell heterostructure (ePDA/CdS@C) was designed for curcumin detection. Furthermore, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometers (UV-vi) techniques were applied to characterize the structure and morphology of the synthesized photoelectric materials. The ePDA coating enhances the stability of the CdS@C material, and the CdS@C core-shell heterostructure accelerates electron transfer. Consequently, the ePDA/CdS@C material generates an outstanding and steady photocurrent response. Under ideal conditions, the novel sensor exhibits a satisfactory linear response to curcumin detection within the concentration range of 0.025–370 μM, with a detection limit as low as 0.0165 μM. Additionally, the ePDA/CdS@C-based photoelectrochemical aptasensor displays remarkable reproducibility, stability, and selectivity. This innovative sensing platform accurately detects curcumin in human serum and urine samples, with an excellent recovery range (99.47 %–103.60 %) and relatively low RSD values (1.49 %–3.56 %). In conclusion, this work offers a novel approach for curcumin detection.

A photoelectroactive film composed of CdS quantum dots and graphene sheets (GS) was coated on F-doped SnO 2 (FTO) conducting glass for studying the electrochemical response of p -phenylenediamine (PPD) under photoirradiation. The result indicated that the cyclic voltammogram of PPD on CdS–GS hybrid film became sigmoidal in shape after exposed under visible light, due to the photoelectrocatalytic reaction. Such a photovoltammetric response was used to rapidly optimize the photoelectrocatalytic activity of hybrid films composed of different ratios of CdS to GS toward PPD. The influences of scan rate and pH on the photovoltammetric behavior of PPD on CdS–GS film revealed that although the controlled step for electrochemical process was not changed under photoirradiation, more electrons than protons might participate the photoelectrocatalytic process. Furthermore, the photoelectroactive CdS–GS hybrid film was explored for PPD determination based on the photocurrent response of film toward PPD. Under optimal conditions, the photocurrent signal on CdS–GS film was linearly proportional to the concentration of PPD ranging from 1.0 × 10 −7 to 3.0 × 10 −6 mol L −1 , with a detection limit (3S/N) of 4.3 × 10 −8 mol L −1 . Our work based on CdS–GS hybrid film not only demonstrated a new facile photovoltammetric way to study the photoinduced electron transfer process of PPD, but also developed a sensitive photoelectrochemical strategy for PPD determination.
