Ce-Doped V2O5-WO3/TiO2 with Low Vanadium Loadings as SCR Catalysts and the Resistance of H2O and SO2

Liu Xiaolong,Zhao Ziwei,Ning Ruliang,Qin Yu,Zhu Tingyu,Liu Fagao

The promoting effect of Ce on V-W/Ti catalyst for selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO x by NH 3 was studied. Compared with the original V-W/Ti samples, addition of Ce contributed better NH 3 -SCR performance. The H 2 O and SO 2 resistance of Ce modified V-W/Ti catalyst was improved by the different impregnation sequence of Ce. The catalysts were characterized by NH 3 -temperature programmed desorption (NH 3 -TPD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and H 2 -temperature programmed reduction (H 2 -TPR) techniques. The results showed that the impregnation sequence of W and Ce influenced the NH 3 adsorption capacity of the catalysts. In comparison to 0.2V-5Ce-5W/Ti and 0.2V-(5Ce5W)/Ti, 0.2V-5W-5Ce/Ti catalyst contributed better H 2 O and SO 2 resistance, with the highest Ce 3+ /(Ce 4+  + Ce 3+ ) value of 36.6%. Besides, a catalytic mechanism of SCR reactions over Ce-doped V-W/Ti catalysts was proposed. Graphic

Enhancement of the hydrogen storage performance of MgH2 using CeO2@C with oxygen vacancy‑rich from Ce-MOF pyrolysis

Zhuohan Zhang,Zhichao Yu,Lian Cong,Lixiang Ma,Yuan Li,Zhaoyang Liu,Yaokun Fu,Lu Zhang

MgH 2 exhibits significant potential as promising candidates for next-generation hydrogen storage solutions, owing to excellent hydrogen storage capacity. However, its high thermodynamic stability and kinetic barriers result in sluggish dehydrogenation kinetics and high dehydrogenation temperatures. Herein, oxygen vacancy (O V )-rich CeO 2 @C effectively weakens the Mg–H bond energy, which is manifested as the elongation of the Mg–H bond. Moreover, the O V -rich CeO 2 @C reacts with H 2 to form CeH 2.73 , which enhances hydrogen diffusion within the Mg/MgH 2 system. Meanwhile, the formation of CeH 2.73 promotes the formation of O V within the MgH 2 -CeO 2 @C, further facilitating the dehydrogenation of MgH 2 . Thereby, the synergistic effect of the O V -rich CeO 2 @C and CeH 2.73 lower the dehydrogenation temperature of MgH 2 and enhance kinetic performance. The MgH 2 -CeO 2 @C-3h behaves the most optimal dehydrogenation performance, achieving a release of 4.88   wt% H 2 within 10   min at 350 ℃. The initial dehydrogenation temperature of the MgH 2 -CeO 2 @C-3h is reduced to 274 ℃, and the dehydrogenation activation energy ( E a ) is lowered to 99.13   kJ   mol –1 , compared to 327 ℃ and 160.7   kJ   mol –1 for pristine MgH 2 . This work provides new insights into designing O V -rich metal oxide catalysts for MgH 2 .

MOF-derived Zr-Ce solid solutions with engineered oxygen vacancies for efficient direct synthesis of dimethyl carbonate from CO2

Wei Yi,Wenqiang Zhao,Wushan Sun,Yuansheng Bai,Qingyin Wang,Gongying Wang

Direct synthesis of dimethyl carbonate (DMC) from CO 2 is a sustainable carbon utilization route but suffers from thermodynamic limitations and rapid catalyst deactivation. Herein, we report a scalable MOF-derived strategy to construct porous Zr x Ce 1-x O 2-δ solid solution catalysts with tunable oxygen vacancies (O v ) by precisely controlling calcination conditions. Although calcination at 700 °C decreased the specific surface area, it optimized Ce 3+ /(Ce 4+ +Zr 4+ ) synergy and O v density, thereby enhancing CO 2 activation and surface acid–base properties. Thermodynamic analysis underscores the critical role of dehydrating agents in overcoming equilibrium constraints. Furthermore, DFT calculations reveal that O v lowers the rate-limiting *CH 3 OCOO dissociation barrier by 0.69 eV, while competitive adsorption between the dehydrating agent (2-cyanopyridine) and its product (pyridine-2-carboxamide) on active sites drives catalyst deactivation. Under optimized conditions (700 °C calcination; 140 °C, 4 MPa), Zr 0.05 Ce 0.95 O 2-δ achieved an exceptional DMC formation rate of 261.99 mmol·g −1 ·h −1 with 97.71% selectivity. This work provides new insights into defect engineering and deactivation mechanisms, establishing a rational design strategy for efficient CO 2 -to-chemical conversion.

A sensitive and cost-effective “turn-on” aptasensor for carcinoembryonic antigen using Ce-UiO-66 as an ultraefficient nanoquencher

Li Mengqiu,Xu Dongpo,Zhuang Wenfang,Cheng Zien,Sun Yiqian,Qiu Jingxuan,Liu Caiyun,Li Jia,Wang Xin

Carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) is a key tumor biomarker, and its sensitive detection is critical for early diagnosis and treatment monitoring. This work presents a novel “turn-on” fluorescent aptasensor for sensitive and cost-effective detection of CEA, based on a FAM-labeled CEA aptamer (FAM-Aptamer) as the recognition unit, and Ce-UiO-66 nanoparticles as an efficient quenching platform. The Ce-UiO-66 material was synthesized and comprehensively characterized by SEM, TEM, XPS, FT-IR, Raman and XRD, demonstrating a high quenching efficiency (QE) of 99.95% toward the fluorescent aptamer. This exceptional quenching performance is attributed to a synergistic mechanism involving FRET, PET, DQE and SQE. After systematic optimization of key parameters (Ce-UiO-66 concentration: 66.67 µg/mL; quenching time: 30 min; pH: 7.6; incubation temperature: 25 ℃; incubation time: 60 min), the aptasensor achieved a wide dual-linear response across 1-10 ng/mL and 10-100 ng/mL, respectively, with a detection limit of 13.78 pg/mL. Validation in diluted serum samples confirmed its accuracy and precision for CEA quantification, with recoveries of 95.50-109.60% and RSDs below 5.07%. The proposed aptasensor provides a reliable, cost-effective, and sensitive platform for CEA detection, serving as a proof-of-concept biosensing platform, with a certain potential for clinical application. Efficient Activation of PMS by EDTA-CeCoO3 Composite: Effect of Ce/Co Doping Ratio, Structural Property and Degradation Mechanism

Peng Junlin,Bai Dihao,Sun Lei,Yuan Xiangjuan

The perovskite CeCoO 3 composites were synthesized through the sol–gel method with two complexing agents (citric acid and EDTA) with different Ce/Co molar rations and further applied for peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation. The physicochemical properties and morphology of CeCoO 3 were characterized using BET, XRD, FT-IR, SEM, TEM, and XPS techniques. When the CeCoO 3 prepared with EDTA as the complexing agent at 600°C and Ce/Co ratio of 1:1, the EDTA-CeCoO 3 exhibited superior physicochemical properties, including a high specific surface area (7.69 m 2 /g) and pore volume, abundant oxygen vacancies, and optimal exposure of active sites, which is most conducive to activating PMS. The effects of catalyst dosage, PMS dosage, initial pH, natural organic matter, and common anions on CeCoO 3 /PMS system for bisphenol A (BPA) degradation were systematically evaluated. The results revealed that CeCoO 3 prepared with EDTA at 600°C Demonstrated excellent catalytic activity for PMS Degradation of BPA, achieving over 97% Degradation efficiency of BPA within 15 min, with a pseudo-first-order reaction rate constant ( k ) of 0.2909 min⁻ 1 . Furthermore, CeCoO 3 showed outstanding stability in multiple cyclic experiments. Furthermore, radical quenching experiments confirmed that SO 4 •− , • OH, and O 2 •− were the dominant active radicals in the CeCoO 3 /PMS system for BPA degradation, and a plausible reaction mechanism was proposed. This study provides new insights into the development of PMS activating catalysts, specifically low-cobalt-content yet highly efficient cobalt-based catalysts.

Rare earth Ce based metal organic framework as efficient synergistic thermal stabilizer for PVC: Preparation and thermal stabilization behavior

Mei Wang,Tong Wu,Quan Bu,Xianghai Song,Mei Li,Shouqi Yuan

The complex production process and uneven performance seriously restrict the application of Rare earth thermal stabilizer. In this study, the thermal stability behavior of metal organic framework Ce(1,3,5-BTC)(H 2 O) 6 (Ce-BTC) towards PVC was studied. Experimental results showed that the combination of Ce-BTC, 2,4,6-tris[di(hydroxymethyl) amino]-1,3,5-triazine (HHTT), and ESBO synergistically stabilized PVC sample displayed significantly improved initial color, meanwhile, the T s and the time of "zinc burning" were prolonged to 55.17 and 70 min, respectively, as well. During thermal treatment, HHTT can replace the unstable chlorine atoms on the PVC chain, and the incompletely coordinated Ce ions in Ce-BTC can inhibit the further polymerization of conjugated polyenes by reacting with the alkene chain resulted from PVC degradation, these two factors synertistically inhibit the degradation of PVC. The nertralization of HCl by HHTT and ESBO can provide longer reaction time for incompletely coordinated Ce ions and chlorine atoms, delaying the autocatalytic effect of HCl.

Facile preparation of Ce enhanced vinyl-functionalized silica aerogel-like monoliths for selective separation of radioactive thorium from monazite

Hao Zhang,Fan Yang,Ruixi Bai,Zhigang Zhao,Chunqing Cai,Jianguo Li,Ying Ma

Thorium (Th) is an associated ore of rare earth metals that is radioactive and harmful to the environment, but it is also a potential nuclear fuel replacement for uranium. The separation of Th from rare earth elements (REEs) is of great importance in environmental governance and clean-energy development. In this work, a monolithic cerium (Ce) doped silica aerogel-like with flexibility was synthesized using a low consumption and rapid technique, and it was used in a continuous solid-phase extraction as an adsorbent for the selective separation of Th/REEs. The batch adsorption experiments showed that the adsorption efficiency of Th(IV) can be up to 96% when abnormally high levels of metal ions (20 ppm) exist. Under the same conditions, the adsorption efficiency of REEs is at a near-zero level, which demonstrates the great selective separation of Th/REEs for the aerogel-like. The results also indicated that Th(IV) could desorb from the adsorbent in weak acidic media, which is friendly to the environment. Therefore, the material has application prospects for the separation of Th/REEs and removal of radioactive contamination from the environment.

Construction of heterogeneous structures of MIL-101(Fe)/Ce/g-C3N4 nanocomposites for enhanced photocatalytic activity under visible light

Xu Zhang,Zeyu Song,Xiaochen Yu,Xiaoqian Dong,Yadi Peng,Kexin Wei,Leichao Cao,Xiao He,Zhehan Zhang,Jibin Fan

A heterostructured MIL-101(Fe)/Ce/g-C 3 N 4 (MCCN) composite was designed and synthesized by solvothermal method . The composite was characterized by XRD , SEM, EDS , FT-IR, BET, XPS , UV–Vis DRS , PL and EIS. The MCCN photocatalyst exhibits superior photocatalytic performance for the degradation of rhodamine B (RhB) and methylene blue (MB), and the efficiencies are found to be 90.36% and 88.17%, respectively. The kinetic constants k of MCCN-3 against RhB and MB dyes are 0.04094 min −1 and 0.03319 min −1 , respectively, under visible light for 75 min irradiation. The improved degradation efficiency of MCCN attributed to the enhanced light absorption and the transport channels of electron-hole pairs by forming a heterojunction between MIL-101(Fe) and Ce/g-C 3 N 4 with a favourable band position. Moreover, the possible mechanism of photocatalytic degradation of dyes was proposed though free radical trapping experiments. This work provides an effective way for constructing novel visible-light-driven photocatalyst in the removal of organic molecules from waste water .

Experimental and theoretical studies of carbon monoxide oxidation over W/Cu/Ce trimetallic oxides: the effect of W addition

Mingzhen Huang,Siyuan Hu,Dongren Cai,Guowu Zhan

It is a significant method to prepare highly dispersed polymetallic oxides using in-situ doping metal organic frameworks  as precursors. Herein, a series of straw-like W/Cu/Ce trimetallic oxides were prepared by using phosphotungstic ionic liquid@Ce-based metal organic framework adsorbing with copper acetylacetonate as precursors. The effect of W content on catalytic activity of W/Cu/Ce trimetallic oxides for carbon monoxide (CO) oxidation was well-investigated. Comprehensive characterization methods and density functional theory calculations were adopted to reveal the property changes of Cu/CeO 2 catalyst by the addition of W. The results demonstrated that W, Cu, and Ce are highly dispersed in the prepared W/Cu/Ce trimetallic oxides, and adding proper amount of W can improve the activity of the catalyst. H 2 temperature-program reduction profiles, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, in-situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy , and density functional theory calculations clearly revealed that after the addition of W, the strength of Ce-O bond is weakened, the oxygen vacancy is increased, and the adsorption of CO is enhanced, respectively, which are vital reasons for its high catalytic activity. In addition, the CO oxidation reaction pathway over prepared W/Cu/Ce trimetallic oxides based on the Mars-van Krevelen mechanism was studied, and the results exhibited that CO can wrest the lattice oxygen of W/Cu/Ce trimetallic oxides to form CO 2 , which is also proved to be the rate-determining step in reaction process.

Sm-modified Mn-Ce oxides supported on cordierite as monolithic catalyst for the low-temperature reduction of nitrogen oxides

Shuqi Zhao,Kunli Song,Ruiyu Jiang,Dandan Ma,Hongming Long,Jian-Wen Shi

Nitrogen oxides (NO x ) are typical atmospheric pollutants that harm the environment and human body, and selective catalytic reduction (SCR) with NH 3 is one of the most effective technologies to deal with NO x emissions at present. In this work, a monolithic catalyst, Sm-modified Mn-Ce composite oxides (Sm-MnCe) supported on cordierite (CC), is prepared by impregnation for the first time, and their denitration (de-NO x ) performance in NH 3 -SCR reaction is evaluated in detail. The results show that 0.1Sm-MnCe/CC (Sm/Mn mole ratio is 0.1) has the best de-NO x efficiency with above 80 % NO x conversion from 60° to 270°C, and the high NO x conversion can be maintained within 15 h in the presence of 100 ppm SO 2 . It is found that appropriate introduction of Sm increases the specific surface area and acid sites, improves the redox environment, elevates the content of Mn 4+ on the catalyst surface, which are conducive to the improvement of catalytic activity. In addition, the interaction between active components (Sm, Mn and Ce) also plays a positive role for the excellent de-NO x activity. It is revealed by in-situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectra (DRIFTS) that the NH 3 -SCR reaction over the 0.1Sm-MnCe/CC catalyst follows Eley-Rideal (E-R) and Langmuir-Hinshel (L-H) mechanisms. This work provides ideas for the preparation and modification of monolithic catalysts, which is conducive to promoting the practical industrial application of low-temperature SCR de-NO x technology.

Interfacial engineering by p-methylphenylmethylammonium iodide for efficient carbon counter electrode (CE)-based 2D/3D hybrid perovskite solar cells

Duoling Cao,Zuhong Li,Ya Xu,Wenbo Li,Hang Zhong,Yin Huang,Xu Zhang,Li Wan,Xiuhua Zhang,Yuebin Li,Xiaoming Ren,Xianbao Wang,Dominik Eder,Shimin Wang

Defects at the surface and grain boundaries of three-dimensional (3D) organic-inorganic metal halide perovskite films lead to the non-radiative recombination of charge carriers and accelerate perovskite decomposition. In turn, this deteriorates the power conversion efficiency ( PCE ) and stability of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Herein, p -methylphenylmethylammonium iodide ( p -MePMAI) was reacted with a 3D perovskite to in - situ form a two-dimensional (2D) perovskite upper layer. This upper layer passivated the surface and grain boundary defects of the 3D perovskite film, improving its surface hydrophobicity . As a result, a carbon counter electrode (CE)-based 2D/3D PSC achieved a maximum PCE of up to 15.63%, which was much higher than that of an unmodified 3D MAPbI 3 PSC (12.16%). Moreover, the unencapsulated 2D/3D device maintained 80% of its initial PCE after exposure to air for 700 h with a relative humidity (RH) of 40 ± 5%. This research opens a new pathway for the successful construction of stable and efficient 2D/3D PSCs with organic ammonium salts .

Facial design and synthesis of Ce doped Co-Ni oxide nanocages with cubic structure for high-performance asymmetric supercapacitors

Haiwen Gao,Yang Wang,Honglong Shen,Zongdeng Wu,Juanjuan Song,Jia Yu,Cai Liu,Haiyan Jing,Peng Zhao,Wu Lei,Qingli Hao

From the perspective of nano science and nanotechnology, it is very interesting and important to develop a reasonable and practical synthesis route of nanomaterials for production and life. Here, we develop a strategy of hollow cubic metal oxide nanocages. The method was inspired by Pearson’s Hard-Soft-Acid-Base (HSAB) theory, and nanocages with excellent performance were prepared by coordination etching and optimization of reaction conditions. Firstly, Cu 2 O nanocubes were prepared by redox reaction at room temperature. Then, the hollow cubic NiCo 2 O x /CeO y nanocages were obtained by HSAB theory and cerium doping. The nanomaterial has a specific capacitance of up to 1976 F/g at the current density of 1 A/g. In addition, the asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) prepared with hollow cubic NiCo 2 O x /CeO y nanocage as cathode and active carbon as anode exhibits an energy density as high as 37.1 Wh kg −1 at the power density of 375 W kg −1 . The capacitance retention rate of the device is 91.5 % after 10,000 cycles. The device can be charged to light up LED lights. These excellent electrochemical properties, due to their unique structure and synergistic effect between materials, indicate the potential application value of hollow cubic NiCo 2 O x /CeO y nanocages in high-performance supercapacitors.
