SnO 2 -based halide perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have recently garnered attention due to their simple and low-temperature fabrication processing. However, the interface defects due to the low temperature process of SnO 2 and imperfect energy band alignment between electron transport layer (ETL) and perovskite layer limit the improvement in efficiency of PSCs. In this study, an amino-acid self-assembled layer was employed onto the SnO 2 ETL as the buffer layer to optimize the interface of the perovskite and SnO 2 ETL. With addition of L-Aspartic acid (L-Asp), the amino molecule interacts with perovskite framework though the strong N–H⋯I hydrogen bonds , and its carboxylic acid groups reacts with SnO 2 by esterification reaction, thus enhancing the interface interaction between SnO 2 and perovskite. The hydrogen bonds and chemical reaction together affect the charge extraction and transfer efficiency at the SnO 2 /perovskite interface in PSCs. As a result, the highest power conversion efficiency (PCE) of PSCs fabricated in air atmosphere was 18.46%. The study unveils the critical role of interface contact modulation of MA-based perovskite and provides an insightful strategy for efficiency and stable low-temperature PSCs.

Antibacterial waterborne polyurethane (WPU) is attracting increasing interest in a wide range of industrial applications due to its versatility and eco-friendliness. However, single system antimicrobial WPU often does not meet the requirements of highly antimicrobial coating fields. Therefore, WPU was synergistically modified by L-arginine (L-Arg) and quaternary ammonium salts (QAs) in this study. They were introduced into the molecular structure of WPU by in-situ emulsion polymerization to form the composite antibacterial system (WRPUs). The results showed that the composite systems had excellent antibacterial activity against both Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus compared to single system. When the content of both L-Arg and QAs was 7%, the antibacterial effect of WRPU7 was optimal, from the sum ( E. coli : 8.3 mm + 8.3 mm = 16.6 mm and S. aureus : 9.8 mm + 9.5 mm = 19.3 mm ) of the inhibition circles of L-Arg and QAs to 21.4 and 22.6 mm, respectively, net efficiency increase of 29% and 17%, fully reflecting the synergistic effect of “ 1 + 1 > 2 . ” Taken together, the results presented in this study confirm the significance of L-Arg and QAs as synergistic antimicrobial building blocks. In this way, the antimicrobial performance of WPU can be significantly improved and better biocompatibility can be exhibited, thus broadening the application of WPU in highly antibacterial fields.

The volatile organic components (VOCs) of Tamarindus indica L. (TIL) pulp and the extraction of TIL were analyzed by headspace solid-phase microextraction with gas chromatography mass spectrometry (HS-SPME–GC MS) to characterize key odorants and investigate their changes during solvent extraction (SE). A total of 109 VOCs were identified in TIL pulp. Twenty-two odorants were determined to be key odorants, and 12 differential aroma components were identified using the relative odor activity value (ROAV) method and multivariate statistical analysis. Among these, phenylacetaldehyde , nonanal and phenethyl alcohol were the common key aroma components of four TIL pulps. In addition, the effect of SE on the aroma composition of TIL was analyzed according to changes in the glucose and fructose contents of TIL pulp combined with sensory evaluation. The results showed that SE affected the aroma of TIL pulp, among which the contents of ethyl palmitate, diethyl succinate, 1-tetradecene, 1-hexadecene, heptadecane , ethyl phenylacetate , and ethyl oleate showed significant differences before and after extraction. The present research refines the existing aroma composition system of TIL and provides a reference for further development and utilization of TIL.

A new chiral molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) sensor with dual recognition ability was developed for the highly selective separation of enantiomers with toxic side effects in drugs. The sensor contains double-stranded deoxyribonucleic acid (dsDNA) as the element that immobilizes the chiral molecular conformation: the dsDNA enables the imprinted cavities to match the three-dimensional structure and functional groups from the chiral molecule. By embedding the spatial orientation of dsDNA in MIPs, one can accurately capture and immobilize the molecular conformation, eliminating the influence of interfering analogues. Herein, L-penicillamine (L-Pen) was selected as the chiral template molecule and embedded into dsDNA to form dsDNA-L-Pen complex, which was then embedded into the MIPs by electropolymerization. After elution, the stereo-selective imprinted cavities were obtained. The ATATATATATAT-TATATATATATA base sequence showed a high affinity for the embedded L-Pen, which endowed the imprinted cavities with a larger number of sites and improved the selectivity toward Pen enantiomers. Under the optimal working conditions, the current response of the MIP/dsDNA sensor exhibited a positive linear relationship with the logarithm of the L-Pen concentration in the range of 3.0 × 10−16to 3.0 × 10−13mol/L, and the detection limit was 2.48 × 10−16mol/L. After the introduction of dsDNA into the MIP, the selectivity of the sensor toward D-Pen increased by 6.4 times, and the sensor was successfully applied in the analysis of L-Pen in penicillamine tablets. Keywords:molecularly imprint;sensor;dsDNA;chiral;L-Pen

A series of natural deep eutectic solvents (NADESs) were prepared with choline chloride, betaine, and a variety of natural organic acids in order to find new environmentally-friendly green solvents to replace the traditional solvents. The NADESs were employed to extract flavonoids fromPotentilla fruticosaL. (PFL) with the help of ultrasound. The eutectic solvent diluted with an appropriate amount of water improved the extraction ability of flavonoids due to the decrease of solution viscosity. The microstructure of the raw sample and the samples subjected to ultrasonic bath in different solutions were observed using scanning electron microscope (SEM) to determine the role of the NADESs in the extraction process. The DPPH method and glucose consumption method were used to study the antioxidant and hypoglycemic ability of flavonoid compounds inPFL. Single factor method and response surface methodology (RSM) were designed to analyze the effects of three extraction parameters, including solvent/solid ratio, ultrasonic power, and extraction time, on the extraction yield, antioxidant capacity, and hypoglycemic capacity, and the corresponding second-order polynomial prediction models were established. The optimal extraction conditions for the maximum extraction yield, antioxidant capacity, and hypoglycemic capacity were predicted by RSM, and the reliability of RSM simulation results was verified by a one-off experiment. Keywords:natural deep eutectic solvents;ultrasound-assisted extraction;Potentilla fruticosaL.;response surface methodology

To extend the application range of L-asparaginase in food pre-processing, the thermostability improvement of the enzyme is essential. Herein, two non-conserved cysteine residues with easily oxidized free sulfhydryl groups, Cys8 and Cys283, ofAcinetobacter soliL-asparaginase (AsA) were screened out via consensus design. After saturation mutagenesis and combinatorial mutation, the mutant C8Y/C283Q with highly improved thermostability was obtained with a half-life of 361.6 min at 40 °C, an over 34-fold increase compared with that of the wild-type. Its melting temperature (Tm) value reaches 62.3 °C, which is 7.1 °C higher than that of the wild-type. Molecular dynamics simulation and structure analysis revealed the formation of new hydrogen bonds of Gln283 and the aromatic interaction of Tyr8 formed with adjacent residues, resulting in enhanced thermostability. The improvement in the thermostability of L-asparaginase could efficiently enhance its effect on acrylamide inhibition; the contents of acrylamide in potato chips were efficiently reduced by 86.50% after a mutant C8Y/C283Q treatment, which was significantly higher than the 59.05% reduction after the AsA wild-type treatment. In addition, the investigation of the mechanism behind the enhanced thermostability of AsA could further direct the modification of L-asparaginases for expanding their clinical and industrial applications.Keywords:L-asparaginase;Acinetobacter soli;thermostability;consensus design;cysteine substitution;acrylamide inhibition

Fragrances have been widely used in many customer products to improve the sensory quality and cover flavor defects. The key to the successful application of fragrance is to realize controlled fragrance release, which relies on the use of an appropriate carrier for fragrance. An ideal fragrance carrier helps to achieve the stable storage and controlled release of fragrance. In this work, a novel composite fragrance carrier with MIL-101 (Cr) as the fragrance host and cellulose acetate fiber (CAF) as the protective shell was developed. The encapsulation effect of MIL-101 (Cr) and the protective function of the CAF shell significantly improved the storage stability of L-menthol (LM). Only 5 wt % of LM was lost after 40 days of storage at room temperature. Encapsulated LM could also be effectively released upon heating due to the thermal responsiveness of CAF. In addition, the composite carrier was highly stable with neglectable Cr leaching under different conditions. The results of this work showed that the developed composite carrier could be a promising carrier for the thermally triggered release of fragrance. Keywords:composite materials;stable storage;controlled release;adsorption;L-menthol

Background 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP), the direct biosynthetic precursor of the neurotransmitter 5-hydroxytryptamine, has been shown to have unique efficacy in the treatment of a variety of disorders, including depression, insomnia, and chronic headaches, and is one of the most commercially valuable amino acid derivatives. However, microbial fermentation for 5-HTP production continues to face many challenges, including low titer/yield and the presence of the intermediate L-tryptophan (L-Trp), owing to the complexity and low activity of heterologous expression in prokaryotes. Therefore, there is a need to construct an efficient microbial cell factory for 5-HTP production. Results We describe the systematic modular engineering of wild-type Escherichia coli for the efficient fermentation of 5-HTP from glucose. First, a xylose-induced T7 RNA polymerase-PT7 promoter system was constructed to ensure the efficient expression of each key heterologous pathway in E. coli. Next, a new tryptophan hydroxylase mutant was used to construct an efficient tryptophan hydroxylation module, and the cofactor tetrahydrobiopterin synthesis and regeneration pathway was expressed in combination. The L-Trp synthesis module was constructed by modifying the key metabolic nodes of tryptophan biosynthesis, and the heterologous synthesis of 5-HTP was achieved. Finally, the NAD(P)H regeneration module was constructed by the moderate expression of the heterologous GDHesi pathway, which successfully reduced the surplus of the intermediate L-Trp. The final engineered strain HTP11 was able to produce 8.58 g/L 5-HTP in a 5-L bioreactor with a yield of 0.095 g/g glucose and a maximum real-time productivity of 0.48 g/L/h, the highest values reported by microbial fermentation. Conclusion In this study, we demonstrate the successful design of a cell factory for high-level 5-HTP production, combined with simple processes that have potential for use in industrial applications in the future. Thus, this study provides a reference for the production of high-value amino acid derivatives using a systematic modular engineering strategy and a basis for an efficient engineered strain development of 5-HTP high-value derivatives.

With the frequent occurrence of extreme natural disasters, unfavorable growth environment is a common phenomenon in the life cycle of plants. In recent years, universal stress proteins (USPs) have attracted extensive attention in the field of plant science for their expression patterns and functional analysis. However, the characterization of the USP family remains unclear in grape. In this study, we identified 30VvUSPsin the grape genome, which could be divided into three classes according to their encoded protein sequences, and this classification was reflected by the distribution of conserved motifs. Gene duplication analysis demonstrated that segmental duplication was an important pathway in the expansion of theVvUSPfamily. The expression patterns of 12VvUSPswere significantly different between tissues, implying they had different functions in various tissues.Cis-acting element and expression analysis showed that most of the promoter regions ofVvUSPscontained sequences responsive to hormones and stress elements, especially the promoter region of VIT_16s0013g01920. In conclusion, our findings provide comprehensive information for the further investigation of the genetics and protein functions of theUSPgene family in grape. Keywords:grape;universal stress protein;abiotic stress;hormone

Rotator cuff repair remains a challenge clinically due to the high retear rate after surgical intervention. There is a significant need to develop functional biomaterials facilitating tendon-to-bone integration. In this study, hydroxyapatite (HA) incorporated polylactic acid (PLLA) aligned nanofibrous membranes were fabricated by electrospinning as a low-cost sustainable rotator cuff patch. The morphology, physical, mechanical and in vitro cell assays of the nanofibrous membranes were characterized. The results showed that the nanofibrous membrane maintained a rough surface and weakened hydrophobicity . It has excellent cytocompatibility, and the cells were oriented along the direction of fiber arrangement. What's more, the PLLA-HA nanofibrous membrane could increase the alkaline phosphatase (ALP) expression in rat bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs), indicating that the electrospinning PLLA-HA nanofibrous membrane can better induce the bone formation of rat BMSCs cells. When the mass ratio of PLLA to HA exceeds 3: 1, with the increase of the HA content, the patch showed rising induction ability. The results suggested that electrospinning PLLA-HA nanofibrous membranes are an ideal patch for promoting tendon-bone healing and reducing the secondary tear rate. Furthermore, the use of biodegradable polymers and low-cost preparation methods presented the possibility for commercial production of these nanofibrous membranes.

BiPr composite oxide nanowires with rhombodedral Bi1.35Pr0.65O3, monoclinic Bi2O3 and monoclinic Pr5O9 phases were synthesized via a facile sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) assisted hydrothermal route. The obtained nanowires were characterized by x-ray diffraction, electron microscopy, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and electrochemical measurements. The BiPr composite oxide nanowires possess poly-crystalline structure, semi-circular tips, diameter and length of 20–100 nm and several micrometers, respectively. SDS is essential for the formation of the BiPr composite oxide nanowires which can be explained by a SDS assisted hydrothermal growth process. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy shows that the electrons are easier to transfer by the surface of the BiPr composite oxide nanowires modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) than bare GCE. The BiPr composite oxide nanowires modified GCE possesses good electro-catalytic activity for L-cysteine detection with a pair of quasi-reversible cyclic voltammetry peaks at +0.04 V and –0.72 V for the oxidation and reduction of L-cysteine, respectively. The roles of the scan rate, electrolyte species and L-cysteine concentration on the electrochemical responses of L-cysteine at the nanowires modified GCE were systematically analyzed. The BiPr composite oxide nanowires modified GCE presents a linear response range from 0.001 to 2 mM and detection limit of 0.27 μM, good reproducibility and stability.
