The recovery of gold from wastewater has always been a research hotspot. Here, a novel chitosan-based adsorbent (CS-DPDM) was successfully synthesized by functionalizing chitosan with (N, N-(2-aminoethyl))-2,6-pyridinedicarboxamide. The adsorbent was analyzed by fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy ( 1 H NMR), scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and zeta potential method (Zeta). To investigate the adsorption performance of CS-DPDM for Au(III), the effects of pH, temperature, adsorption time and initial concentration were discussed. The maximum adsorption capacity of CS-DPDM for Au(III) at pH 5.0 is 659.02 mg/g at 318 K. The adsorption is a spontaneous endothermic behavior, and the adsorption process follows the quasi-second-order kinetic and Langmuir isotherm models, indicating that a single layer of chemical adsorption may have occurred on the surface of the adsorbent. The competitive adsorption and repetitive experiments show that CS-DPDM has considerable selectivity and reusability for Au(III). X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) results show that N and O functional groups adsorb Au(III) on the surface of CS-DPDM through electrostatic, chelation and reduction. These results indicate that CS-DPDM has broad application prospects in recovering gold ions from aqueous solutions.

Development of high-performance and stable electrocatalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) is crucial for hydrogen economy. Inspired by hydrogen evolution behavior on hydrogenase enzyme, in which the azadithiolate bridging ligand of active center facilitates fast proton shuttling and catalytic turnover, here we present an efficient approach to enhance both HER kinetics and stability realizing on an IrNi@N,O-C catalyst with individual IrNi nanoparticle separately confined in N and O co-doped carbon (N,O-C) nanocage. Experimental and theoretical investigations indicate that the N,O-C nanocage provides proton-adsorbing functionality on raising H* coverage over IrNi active centers, resulting in much accelerated HER kinetics. The IrNi@N,O-C presents superior HER performances compared to all reported Ir-based catalysts, with overpotential of 22 mV at 100 mA cm −2 , ultrahigh mass activity of 9.82 A mg Ir −1 (−0.050 V vs. RHE) and outstanding durability of 200 h at large current density. This work affords fresh insights/strategies for design of high-performance electrocatalysts

Strain/pressure sensors with high sensitivity and a wide operation range have broad application prospects in wearable medical equipment, human-computer interactions, electronic skin, and so on. In this work, based on the different solubilities of Zr4+ in the aqueous phase and the hydrophobic ionic liquid [BMIM][Tf2N], we used N,N-dimethylacrylamide (DMA) as a vinyl monomer to prepare a Janus-type ionic conductive gel with one-sided adhesion through “one-step” UV irradiation polymerization. The Janus-type gel has satisfactory mechanical properties (tensile strength: 217.06 kPa, elongation at break: 1121.01%), electrical conductivity (conductivity: 0.10 S m−1), one-sided adhesion (adhesion strength to glass: 72.35 kPa) and antibacterial properties. The sensor based on the Janus gel can be used not only for real-time monitoring of strain changes caused by various movements of the human body (such as finger bending, muscle contraction, smiling, and swallowing) but also for real-time monitoring of pressure changes (such as pressing, water droplets, and writing movements). Therefore, based on the simplicity of this method for constructing Janus-type ionic conductive gels and the excellent electromechanical properties of the prepared gel, we believe that the method provided in this study has broad application prospects in the field of multifunctional wearable sensors.

The photoreduction of CO 2 by using Ho and N co-doped TiO 2 was explored. The doping elements can further improve the separation efficiency of photogenerated electron-hole pairs via refining grains, causing lattice distortion and adsorbing more hydroxyl radicals(·OH). We found that there exists product selectivity such that the photoreduction products of Ho/N-TiO 2 mainly consist of CO and methanol, while the counterparts of pristine TiO 2 are CO and methane. The possible mechanism of CO 2 reduction is depicted involving the generation and combination of specific radicals. Thus, the amount of ·OH adsorbed on the surface of the catalyst makes a significant difference in the selectivity in the reduction products. Ho/N-TiO 2 catalyst with the synergic effect of Ho and N showed the best photoreductive performance for CO 2 with H 2 O to CO and CH 4 , and its formation rate of CH 4 was 29 μmol/gcatal./hour.

The experimental values of density and viscosity for binary solutions diethylenetriamine (DETA) + H2O, DETA + N,N-diethylethanolamine (DEEA), and ternary solution DETA + DEEA + H2O over the entire concentration range were reported at atmospheric pressure and T = (293.15, 303.15, 313.15, 323.15, 333.15) K. The measured densities and viscosities were used to calculate the thermal expansion coefficient, excess molar volume, partial molar volume, apparent molar volume, partial molar volume at infinite dilution, viscosity deviation, and excess Gibbs free energy of activation for viscous flow. The molecular interactions in mixtures were discussed based on the volumetric and viscometric properties.

Graphical No DMPUing ground : Efforts are made to design mercury-free catalysts from both technical and economic aspects. Here, a Ru-based catalyst with a low Ru content is prepared by adding DMPU as an efficient stabilizer. The catalyst shows high activity and stability. A new Ru-based catalyst system based on N,N′-Dimethylpropyleneurea (DMPU) was developed for the acetylene hydrochlorination reaction in this study. The optimal 1 % Ru-10 %DMPU/AC catalyst exhibits the best activity with the acetylene conversion of 87.6 % under 170 °C and the GHSV (C 2 H 2 ) of 900 h −1 . Additionally, the Ru-10 %DMPU/AC with lower Ru content (0.2 wt%) displayed excellent activity and stability with acetylene conversion of 81.3 % after 200 h under the conditions of 170 °C and C 2 H 2 GHSV of 180 h −1 . The characterization results indicate that the presence of DMPU could improve the dispersion of the catalytic species and provide full protection to prevent the sintering of the ruthenium particles and to inhibit the reduction of active ruthenium oxide component. Moreover, the catalytic property, characterizations and theoretical calculation results reveal that the ability to adsorb and activate HCl reactant with the addition of DMPU via its strong hydrogen bonding plays a significant role on the high stability of the Ru-DMPU/AC catalyst system.

N , N ′-bis(4-methoxysalicylide)benzene-1,4-diamine ( S1 ) was synthesized from 4-methoxysalicylaldehyde and p -phenylenediamine and it was found to exhibit interesting aggregation-induced emission enhancement (AIEE) characteristics. In aprotic solvent, S1 displayed very weak fluorescence, whilst strong emission was observed when in protic solvent. The morphology characteristics and luminescent properties of S1 were determined from the fluorescence and UV absorption spectra, SEM, fluorescence microscope and grading analysis. Analysis of the single crystal diffraction data infers that the intramolecular hydrogen bonding constitutes to a coplanar structure and orderly packing in aggregated state, which in turn hinders intramolecular C-N single bond rotation. Given that the three benzene rings formed a large plane conjugated structure, the fluorescence emission was significantly enhanced. The absolute fluorescence quantum yield and fluorescence lifetime also showed that radiation transition was effectively enhanced in the aggregated state. Moreover, the AIEE behavior of S1 suggests there is a potential application in the fluorescence sensing of some volatile organic solvents.

A highly selective fluorescent probe for the effective discrimination of N-acetylcysteine (NAC) from cysteine (Cys) is proposed. Probe 1 contains an N,N-diethylrhodol ( DER ) dye and a dinitrophenyl ether moiety. Upon mixing with NAC in aqueous cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) micellar solution , 1 was thiolyzed by NAC to release DER , thus affording a significant increase in fluorescence emission . Whereas for Cys, it gives only a dim response at the same reaction conditions. The significant difference in reaction rates can be explained via the fact that NAC shows more hydrophobicity than Cys, therefore the Meisenheimer complex intermediate ( 2a ) of its nucleophilic aromatic substitution with 1 can embed in CTAB micelles effectively, which will facilitate the formation of 2a and hence affords an acceleration of reaction rates. The proposed method shows an excellent selectivity for NAC over Cys, homocysteine (Hcy) and other amino acids.

The solubility of 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(4-chlorophenyl) porphyrin manganese(III) chloride (abbreviated in p -ClTPPMnCl) in N , N -dimethylformamide (abbreviated in DMF) + water solvent mixtures at 293.2–353.2 K were measured. The effects of mass fraction of DMF in the solvent mixtures at 1.00–0.80 on the solubility were studied. The results show that the solubility decreases with the decreasing mass fraction of DMF at constant temperature, and increase with the increasing temperature at constant solvent composition. The experimental data were correlated with Apelblat equation, and the solubilities calculated by the model were in good agreement with experimental observations.

Pt(II) dbbpy bisacetylide (dbbpy = 4,4′-di(tert-butyl)-2,2′-bipyridine) complex (Pt-1) with two different Bodipy ligands was prepared with the goal to attain broad-band visible light absorbing, efficient funneling of the photoexcitation energy (via resonance energy transfer, RET) to the energy acceptor and high triplet formation quantum yields. Construction of the above-mentioned molecular structural motif is challenging because two different arylacetylide ligands are incorporated in the complex; normally two homoleptic acetylide ligands were used for this kind of N∧N Pt(II) complexes. A reference complex with trans bis(tributylphosphine) Pt(II) bisacetylide protocol (Pt-4) was prepared for comparison of the photophysical properties. The two different Bodipy ligands in Pt-1 and Pt-4 constitute singlet/triplet energy donor/acceptor, as a result the harvested photoexcitation energy can be funneled to the triplet state confined on one of the two Bodipy ligands. The photophysical properties of the complexes were studied with steady state UV–vis absorption and luminescence spectroscopies, femto- and nanosecond transient absorption spectroscopies, cyclic voltammetry, as well as DFT/TDDFT calculations. Fluorescence/phosphorescence dual emission were observed for the complex. The ultrafast intramolecular singlet/triplet energy transfer in Pt-1 was confirmed by the transient absorption spectroscopy (kFRET = 2.6 × 1011 s–1, ΦFRET = 87.1%) followed by an intersystem crossing (kISC = 1.9 × 1010 s–1), and the triplet state lifetime (τT) is 54.1 μs. The reference complex Pt-4 shows drastically different kinetics with kFRET = 6.9 × 1010 s–1, ΦFRET = 81.0%, kISC = 5.83 × 109 s–1, and τT = 147.9 μs. Different singlet oxygen (1O2) quantum yields (ΦΔ = 75% and 70%) and triplet state quantum yields (ΦT = 91% and 69%, respectively) were observed for complexes Pt-1 and Pt-4.

To investigate the asymmetric effect of the naphthalimide moiety on the thermal, mechanical, optical properties and water uptake of polyimides (PIs), two novel asymmetric diamines, 4-(4-aminophenoxy)-N-amino-1,8-naphthalimide 3 and 4-(4-aminophenoxy)-N-(4-aminophenyl)-1,8-naphthalimide 4 were synthesized. Two series of PIs 5b–e and 6a–e were prepared from diamines 3 and 4 by solution polymerization method, respectively. The resulting polyimides demonstrated good solubility, high glass transition temperature (Tg) of 311–421 °C and good thermal stability based on the 5% weight loss temperature (T5%) of 435–563 °C in nitrogen. These PIs also exhibited good mechanical properties with tensile strengths of 107.3–172.2 MPa, tensile moduli of 2.8–4.9 GPa, and elongations at break of 2.9–9.1%. The water uptake of PIs was in the range of 0.33–1.96%. The polyimides displayed UV-vis absorption maxima and an intense fluorescent intensity in the range of 361–371 and 480–700 nm, respectively.

Flexible tin–lead (Sn–Pb) mixed perovskite solar cells (PSCs) are among the promising flexible photovoltaics, owing to the narrow bandgap (NBG) of Sn–Pb perovskites, flexible and wearable features, and their role as a critical component in all-perovskite tandem photovoltaics. However, the flexible Sn–Pb PSCs suffer from a low power conversion efficiency, no higher than 18.5%, along with limited stability. Herein, we reported an efficient and stable flexible NBG Sn–Pb PSC via an N,N′-carbonyldiimidazole (CDI) passivation strategy. CDI, with strong adsorption energy, preferentially binds to Sn2+ compared with oxygen (O2), thus effectively inhibiting the adsorption of O2 on perovskite surfaces. The transfer of electron density around Sn2+ dramatically decreased, thus suppressing Sn2+ oxidation. The CDI treatments endowed the Sn–Pb mixed films with fewer defects, improved crystallinity, better morphology, and matched energy-level alignment. The flexible Sn–Pb devices exhibited a high PCE of 21.02%. Besides, the devices showed enhanced stability and promoted flexibility. This work provides a pathway to visibly increase the efficiency and stability of the flexible Sn–Pb mixed photovoltaic cells.
