La–Sn-codoped Zn(O,S) catalysts were synthesized with different amounts (0%, 2.5%, 5%, and 10%) of Sn and a constant amount (10%) of La to improve the photocatalytic hydrogenation reaction (PHR) of azobenzene to aniline. The as-prepared catalysts were carefully characterized and tested for a hydrogenation reaction. The incorporation of Sn significantly enhanced the PHR activities since the incorporated Sn in the Zn(O,S) lattices could increase the conductivity of the catalysts to improve the charge transfer during the catalytic reaction as indicated with EIS measurement. Further measurement with a photoresponse of La–Sn-codoped Zn(O,S) catalysts also exhibited relatively higher intensities as compared to those of La-doped Zn(O,S) and Sn-doped Zn(O,S) catalysts. On the basis of the measurement results of EIS and transient photo current, the La–Sn-codoped Zn(O,S) with the best properties was further utilized for PHR to convert azobenzene to aniline. GC–MS measurement confirmed that 15 ppm azobenzene could be totally converted to aniline in only 60 min which was achieved with a catalyst that was prepared with 5%-Sn and 10%-La doping. The relatively short reaction time indicated that the as-prepared catalyst had a strong reduction capability able to cleave the strong bonding of N═N in azobenzene. The reaction kinetic of the N═N bond cleavage was elucidated based on solvation, adsorption, pinning, and photocatalytic hydrogenation processes on the catalyst surfaces.

Recently, Sb3+-doped all-inorganic vacancy-ordered double perovskites A2SnCl6 (A = K, Rb, and Cs) have attracted wide attention because of their unique optoelectronic properties and excellent stability. However, Sb3+-doped A2SnCl6 generally exhibits poor emission intensity. To overcome this, we take the all-inorganic A2SnCl6 as the conformational model and utilize a universal supramolecular assembly strategy to develop three different organic metal halides with dumbbell structures of (KC)2SnCl6:Sb3+, (RbC)2SnCl6:Sb3+, and (CsC)2SnCl6:Sb3+ (C = 18-crown-6). Compared with Sb3+-doped A2SnCl6 shows poor emission intensity, Sb3+-doped (AC)2SnCl6 exhibits the efficient tunable white emission with photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of 86.7% for (KC)2SnCl6:Sb3+, 81.6% for (RbC)2SnCl6:Sb3+, and 89.8% for (CsC)2SnCl6:Sb3+, which stems from Sb3+-induce Jahn-Teller-like singlet and triplet self-trapped excitons (STEs) emission. Particularly, there eruptive PLQY obtained in Sb3+-doped (AC)2SnCl6 can be attributed to the strong supramolecular interactions increasing the structural rigidity and thus inhibiting non-radiative transitions. Longer Sb-Sb distances in Sb3+-doped (AC)2SnCl6 facilitate the expression of Sb3+ 5s2 lone pairs. Moreover, Sb3+-doped (AC)2SnCl6 also has an excellent chemical- and photo-stabilities. Finally, taking Sb3+-doped (KC)2SnCl6 as an example, we further demonstrated its applications in single-compound white light-emitting diodes (WLED) at room temperature, multiple-mode optical anti-counterfeiting, and information encryption.

Catalytic transformation of carbohydrates to bio-chemicals such as 5-Hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) has become a hot research topic, but development of cost-effective/efficient catalysts and processes remains a challenge for industrial application. In this study, efficient bifunctional Sn/KIT-1/C catalysts with controllable acid sites were synthesized and applied for glucose-to-HMF conversion. Strong Lewis acid sites were introduced into the framework of disordered mesoporous silica by liquid-phase grafting of tin chloride, and Bronsted acid sites were generated by inserting carbon into the mesopores, followed by controlled oxidation of the carbon. Characterizations revealed that optimizing the amount of carbon source, and carbonization and oxidation temperature provided a proper amount and strength of acidity that could significantly catalyze glucose dehydration reaction to HMF with suppressed byproducts formation. The best catalyst Sn/KIT-1/C(75–400-300) demonstrated superior catalytic performance at 175 °C for 2 h under THF/H 2 O biphasic system, obtaining 78.4 ± 2.1% and 82.9 ± 2.4% HMF yield and selectivity, respectively. The high activity may be attributed to catalyst high surface area/porosity, and the presence of well-balanced amounts and strength of Lewis/Bronsted acid sites. The catalyst could maintain its excellent catalytic activity for five consecutive runs, suggesting the high physical–chemical stability of the catalyst. The results obtained in this work demonstrated that bifunctional metal-supported silica–carbon composites can be a promising catalyst for simple/complex carbohydrates conversion to HMF/bio-based chemicals.

A novel strategy to improve the sensitivity of molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) sensors was proposed for the determination of β 2 -agonists. The imprinted sol-gel film was prepared by mixing silica sol with a functional monomer of antimony-doped tin oxide (ATO) and a template of β 2 -agonists. ATO, which was embedded in the surface of the molecularly imprinted sol-gel film, not only provides the excellent conductivity for biosensor but also increases the stability and the surface area of the MIP film. The imprinted sensor was characterised by field emission scanning electron microscope, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and electrochemical methods. Under the optimal experimental conditions, the peak current was linear with the logarithm of the concentration of clenbuterol (CLB) in the range of 5.5 nM–6.3 µM, and a detection limit of 1.7 nM was obtained. Meanwhile, the electrochemical sensor showed excellent specific recognition of the template molecule among structurally similar coexisting substances. Furthermore, the proposed sensor was satisfactorily applied to determine β 2 -agonists in human serum samples. The good results indicated that highly effective molecularly imprinted sol-gel films doped with ATO can be employed for other analytes.

In this work, easily accessible carbon dots (N, B-CDs) were synthesized via a one-step microwave method. In the powder state, N, B-CDs exhibited bright blue fluorescence and stable green phosphorescence with a lifetime of 539 ms, visible to the naked eye for 9 s. Due to their excellent phosphorescent properties, N, B-CDs have been successfully applied in information encryption. Graphic security and information encryption schemes were designed using N, B-CDs and rhodamine 6G. N, B-CDs contained many hydroxyl and amino groups on the surface, which can be utilized to detect specific ions and compounds. N, B-CDs have been successfully applied to detect Sn2+ and gallic acid (GA). Theoretical calculations and mechanistic studies suggested that the sensing of Sn2+ was attributed to the photoinduced electron transfer between Sn2+ and N, B-CDs, and the limit of detection (LOD) was determined as 3.5 μM with the 3s/k rule. In addition, N, B-CDs and GA form cross-links, as determined by Fourier transform infrared spectral analysis, with an LOD of 0.35 μM with the 3s/k rule.

Graphical This Graphite paper/(SnS 2 -MoS 2 )@CNTs dual-ion battery shows excellent cycling performance and fast charging capacity, which could provide a new insight for the designing of high-performance energy storage device. Dual-ion batteries have been considered as a competitive energy-storage device. However, owing to the lack of suitable high-capacity density and rapid-charging electrode materials, designing a cost-effective and high-performance dual-ion battery is still a great challenge. Herein, an ultrahigh-capacity dual-ion battery is constructed based on a carbon-nanotubes (CNTs) containing SnS 2 -MoS 2 @CNTs heterojunction anode and highly crystalline free-standing graphite paper serves as cathode. The SnS 2 -MoS 2 @CNTs heterojunction consisting of ultrathin nanosheets was prepared via a facile two-step hydrothermal method and shows flower-like morphology and high crystallinity. Benefiting from the unique design concept, the graphite paper/SnS 2 -MoS 2 @CNTs dual-ion battery delivers a high capacity of 274.2 mAh g −1 at 100 mA g −1 and has an outstanding capacity retention of 95 % after 300 cycles under 400 mA g −1 . Even at a high current density of 2 A g −1 the battery still retains a considerable capacity of 112.3 mAh g −1 . More importantly, the battery shows an extremely low self-discharge of 0.006 % h −1 after resting for 24 h. Characterization using SEM and XRD further demonstrate the excellent cycling stability and good reversibility. Consequently, this constructed dual-ion battery could be a promising energy storage device and provide new insights for the design of high-performance dual-ion batteries.

A novel antimony-doped tin oxide nanoparticles electrode (Ti/ATONPs) was fabricated by screen printing method, which was applied in wastewater treatment area for the first time. In contrast with traditional Ti/SnO 2 -Sb electrode prepared by electrodeposition , Ti/ATONPs electrode possessed smaller grains and crystallite size, remarkable porous structure with 39.9 m 2 g −1 surface area and 3.0 nm average pore size as seen by Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET). Electrochemical measurements including linear sweep voltammetry (LSV), cyclic voltammetry (CV), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and chronocoulometry (CC) were employed to investigate the electrochemical activity, compared with Ti/SnO 2 -Sb, Ti/ATONPs owned a higher oxygen evolution potential (2.18 V versus 2.08 V), a lower charge transfer resistance (0.47 Ω versus 13.24 Ω), a larger electrochemically effective surface area (38.97 cm 2 cm −2 versus 3.03 cm 2 cm −2 ) and the voltammetric charge analysis indicated that Ti/ATONPs could create more reaction active sites to enhance the electrocatalytic efficiency. To further explore the electrocatalytic oxidation performance, AR 73 was used as target pollutant to monitor the concentration changes with time through UV/vis spectroscopy, the removal of AR 73 degradation and corresponding kinetic constant of Ti/ATONPs electrode was 83.9%, 0.62 h −1 while that of Ti/SnO 2 -Sb was 65.8%, 0.40 h −1 respectively. These results show that Ti/ATONPs electrode prepared by screen printing method may become a promising electrode in treating wastewater.

5-hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF) is a key platform chemical that can be applied to generate varied value-added products. Herein, the sulfonated zirconium/tin Mixed-Metal metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), Sn/UiO-66-SO 3 H catalysts were employed for catalytic conversion of biomass-derived carbohydrates (glucose, sucrose, maltose, starch, and cellulose) to 5-HMF in green deep eutectic solvents (DESs)-water based biphasic system. The Sn/UiO-66-SO 3 H catalysts were prepared by infiltrating Sn 4+ into the UiO-66-SO 3 H via post-synthesis modification. The synthesized catalysts were characterized by PXRD, SEM, FTIR, N 2 adsorption–desorption analysis, XPS, ICP-OES, NH 3 -TPD and Py-FTIR. The synergistic effect of Zr 4+ and Sn 4+ increased the total acidity and pore size of MOFs, thus promoting the catalytic performance of MOFs towards carbohydrates conversion to 5-HMF. The 24-Sn/UiO-66-SO 3 H with impregnation of Sn 4+ for 24 h presented desired catalytic ability, which resulted in 81.5 % and 41.7 % 5-HMF yields from glucose and cellulose in DES betaine-malic acid–water/MIBK biphasic system, respectively. Moreover, the five-recycling test for 24-Sn/UiO-66-SO 3 H demonstrated excellent reusability of the prepared catalyst. This study offered a novel sulfonated Mixed-Metal strategy on MOFs in DES betaine-malic acid–water based biphasic system for the production of 5-HMF from biomass-derived carbohydrates.

Tin-containing β zeolite exhibits excellent catalytic performance in various biomass conversions to high-value chemicals due to its strong Lewis (L) acidity produced by framework Sn 4+ sites. However, it is difficult to incorporate Sn species into the framework of β zeolite due to that the ionic radius of Sn (0.69 Å) is larger than that of Si (0.40 Å). Herein, organic additives with carbonyl, hydroxyl , aldehyde or amine groups were used to stabilize Sn species in the gel and framework Sn 4+ in the zeolite. Among all additives, acetone (AC) has the best stabilizing effect on Sn species. The stabilization effect between AC and Sn 4+ sites was observed by FT-IR. The characterization results indicate that more tin species were incorporated into β framework and the L acid density increased due to the complexation between carbonyl group and Sn species. Compared to Sn-β-3d synthesized without additive, the L acid density of Sn-β-AC-3d increased by ∼50% (from 21 μmol g −1 to 34 μmol g −1 ). For the conversion of ethyl levulinate to γ-valerolactone, the reaction reached equilibrium faster over Sn-β-AC-3d than over Sn-β-3d at the investigated reaction temperatures. A yield of 98% was obtained over Sn-β-AC-3d at 110 °C. Besides, Sn-β-AC-3d exhibited good stability and reusability.

Realizing Sb3+-activated efficient broadband near-infrared (NIR) emission under blue light excitation remains a significant challenge in lead-free metal halides. To overcome the above difficulties, a coordination structure modulation strategy was adopted, and the broadband NIR emission under blue light excitation was achieved in Sb3+-doped zero-dimensional (0D) organic tin(IV) bromide. Compared to the weak visible light emission with a photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of 2.4% for pure (TBP)2SbBr5 (TBP = tetrabutylphosphonium), Sb3+-doped (TBP)2SnBr6 exhibits an efficient broadband NIR emission band at 705 nm with a PLQY of 33.2% upon 452 nm excitation, which stems from self-trapped exciton emission. Combined with experiments and theoretical calculations, we find that the large excited-state lattice distortion degree compared to the ground state and the narrow bandgap are dominant reasons for Sb3+-doped (TBP)2SnBr6 showing efficient NIR emission under blue light excitation. Specifically, Sb3+-doped (TBP)2SnBr6 also has excellent anti-water stability, existing stably in water for more than 4 hours while maintaining a high luminous efficiency. Based on the excellent stability and unique optical properties of Sb3+-doped (TBP)2SnBr6, a high-performance NIR light-emitting diode (LED) was fabricated by combining Sb3+-doped (TBP)2SnBr6 with a commercial blue LED chip, and its application in night vision was demonstrated.

In this study, a novel titanium/zirconium‑tin oxide/alpha‑lead dioxide/beta‑lead dioxide (Ti/Zr-SnO 2 /α-PbO 2 /β-PbO 2 ) electrode was prepared and utilized for degrading alizarin yellow R (AYR) dye. The Integration of impregnation drying, drop coating with a solvent, and high-temperature pyrolysis significantly diminished the characteristic fissure morphology of conventional pyrolytic metal oxide interlayers, thereby modulating the electrodeposition process of alpha‑lead dioxide (α-PbO 2 ) and enhancing electrode stability and electrochemical performance. Electrode characterization revealed that the charge transfer resistance ( R ct ) was 88.0 Ω/cm 2 , and the oxygen evolution potential (OEP, vs. Ag/AgCl) was 2.02 V. The electrochemically active surface area was the largest, with an accelerated lifetime of up to 82.37 h. That was 13.18 times longer than that of the Ti/α-PbO 2 /β-PbO 2 electrode (6.25 h) and 8.83 times longer than that of the Ti/Zr-SnO 2 /β-PbO 2 electrode (9.33 h). Under optimal experimental conditions (400 A/m 2 , 50 mg/L, 20 °C, pH = 8.00), the removal rate of AYR by this electrode was 99.90 %, the chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal rate was 74.64 %, the average current efficiency (ACE) was 50.94 %, and the electric energy per order ( E EO ) was 41.17 kWh/m 3 . The AYR degradation process followed to a quasi-zero-order kinetic model ( k = 0.2745 min −1 ). In the real water treatment, AYR and COD removal rates remained above 90.13 % and 62.57 %, respectively. This study demonstrated that the Ti/Zr-SnO 2 /α-PbO 2 /β-PbO 2 electrode significantly improved electrocatalytic performance and stability through the unique preparation of its interlayer, exhibiting great potential for efficient dye wastewater treatment.

Proton-exchange membrane water electrolysis (PEMWE) holds great promise for hydrogen production applications. However, the reliance of PEMWE membrane electrodes on high loadings of expensive iridium poses a significant barrier to their commercial viability. Therefore, the development of high-performance oxygen evolution catalysts with a low iridium content is of critical importance. In this research, a porous antimony tin oxide (ATO) conductive support with a particle assembly aggregate structure was fabricated by a carbon template removal method. ATO-supported IrO2 exhibits significantly improved oxygen evolution reaction (OER) activity, with a much lower overpotential compared to the unsupported IrO2 catalyst. Moreover, it achieves 1.8 V at 2 A cm–2 with an ultralow loading of iridium (0.3 mgIr cm–2) for the proton-exchange membrane electrolyzer. Characterization techniques and density functional theory calculations have elucidated that the enhanced performance is attributed to the porous morphology of ATO and the strong metal oxide–support interaction between IrO2 and the ATO support. These findings validate the practicality of conductive nanostructured antimony-tin-oxide-supported catalysts for PEMWE applications and offer a pathway for the design of low-Ir OER catalysts.
