Little is known about the role of specific delta GST genes in the detoxification of lambda-cyhalothrin in the global quarantine fruit pest codling moth, Cydia pomonella (L.). Real-time quantitative PCR shows that CpGSTd3 was ubiquitously expressed at all developmental stages and is most abundant in the larval stage and lowest in the egg stage; the mRNA level of CpGSTd3 is higher in the midgut and Malpighian tubules of fourth-instar larvae and abdomens of adults than in other tissues. Exposure of fourth-instar larvae to an LD10 dosage of lambda-cyhalothrin significantly induced the transcript of CpGSTd3 at 3 h, but the mRNA level was down-regulated after 12 h of treatment. Recombinant CpGSTd3 expressed in Escherichia coli was able to catalyze the conjugation of 1-chloro-2,4-dinitrobenzene (CDNB) and with an IC50 value of 0.65 mM for lambda-cyhalothrin. Metabolism assays indicate that recombinant CpGSTd3 could metabolize lambda-cyhalothrin. These results suggest that CpGSTd3 is probably a lambda-cyhalothrin metabolizing GST in C. pomonella.

Graphical Flex those ABSs : Aqueous biphasic systems (ABSs) based on poly(ionic liquid)s (PILs) were designed and used for the extraction of bioactive compounds. Extraordinary partition coefficients were achieved by customizing the structure of the PILs. The performance of the PIL-based ABSs was tuned by changing the molecular weight and anionic character of the PIL. Ionic liquid (IL)-based aqueous biphasic systems (ABSs) provide a sustainable and efficient alternative to conventional liquid–liquid extraction techniques and can be used for the extraction, recovery, and purification of diverse solutes. However, the construction of a high-performance ABS that has both excellent phase separation ability and extraction performance remains challenging. This study concerns the preparation of a family of novel ABSs based on poly(ionic liquid)s (PILs) with customized structure and controllable molecular weight for the extraction of bioactive compounds. Several tailor-made PILs consisting of a hydrophobic backbone, hydrophilic imidazolium pendant groups and strong hydrogen bonding basic counteranions are prepared by reversible addition fragmentation chain-transfer polymerization. The PILs have a perfect balance of hydrophobicity/hydrophilicity and functionality, affording outstanding phase separation, which was better than with either the IL monomer poly(1-butyl-3-vinylimidazolium bromide ([BVIm]Br) or the normal free-radical polymer P[BVIm]Br*. More importantly, PIL-based ABSs exhibited unprecedented high partition coefficients for six bioactive compounds including tryptophan, phenylalanine, and caffeine, as well as high extraction yields. The performance of the PIL-based ABSs could also be tuned by changing the molecular weight and anionic character of the PILs. This work shows that tailor-made PIL-based ABSs are a promising platform for bioactive compound extraction and provides significant clues for the design of new ABSs for various applications.

In this study, AgBr/Bi 4 Ti 3 O 12 /Bi 2 Sn 2 O 7 (ABr/BTO/BSO) composites were successfully synthesized to facilitate multi-channel fast charge transfer. This directs the charge carriers to travel along multichannel pathways and suppresses carrier recombination. The mechanisms underlying charge transfer in the dual S-scheme heterojunction composites were elucidated using density functional theory (DFT) and in situ irradiated X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (ISI-XPS). Furthermore, electron spin resonance (ESR) and burst experiments verified h + , ·O 2 - , and ·OH as the primary active species in the catalytic process. The ABr/BTO/BSO composites demonstrated exceptional photocatalytic redox capabilities, completely degrading rhodamine B (RhB) and achieving degradation rates of 77.21% for tetracycline (TC) and 81.04% for Cr (VI). Both experimental and theoretical analyses confirmed the intrinsic efficacy of photo-induced electron movement within the composites. This research introduces innovative design concepts and strategies for the advanced exploration of electron channel transfer in ABr/BTO/BSO ternary composites and the development of novel composite photocatalytic systems.

Ferroptosis is a newly characterized form of regulated cell death mediated by iron-dependent accumulation of lipid reactive oxygen species and holds great potential for cancer therapy. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying ferroptosis remain largely elusive. In this study, we define an integrative role of DJ-1 in ferroptosis. Inhibition of DJ-1 potently enhances the sensitivity of tumor cells to ferroptosis inducers both in vitro and in vivo. Metabolic analysis and metabolite rescue assay reveal that DJ-1 depletion inhibits the transsulfuration pathway by disrupting the formation of the S-adenosyl homocysteine hydrolase tetramer and impairing its activity. Consequently, more ferroptosis is induced when homocysteine generation is decreased, which might be the only source of glutathione biosynthesis when cystine uptake is blocked. Thus, our findings show that DJ-1 determines the response of cancer cells to ferroptosis, and highlight a candidate therapeutic target to potentially improve the effect of ferroptosis-based antitumor therapy.

Eliminating interfacial incompatibility and creating smooth ions/electrons transport at the interfaces of cathode│electrolyte│anode, are keys for the practical application of all-solid-state lithium-sulfur battery (ASSLSB). Here, we report a fully integrated-ASSLSB ( i -ASSLSB) whose interfacial resistances are suppressed by the segmental motion of polyethylene oxide in hierarchical polymer electrolyte throughout the whole battery system. The mobility of ethylene oxide segments and strength of polyelectrolyte membranes can be controlled by the cross-linking degree of single-ion conductive polyelectrolyte. Such a i -ASSLSB without distinct interface achieves liquid-state-level lithium-ion diffusion coefficient of 2.4 × 10 −12 cm 2 s −1 and demonstrates a remarkable capacity up to 1428 mA h g −1 at 0.05 C and 100-cycle stability at 0.1 C. This work promises a valuable technical approach of interface modulation for high-performance all-solid-state lithium-sulfur batteries.

Co-doping with non-metallic and metallic elements offers an effective strategy to address the inherent limitations of zero-valent iron (ZVI) materials, including low reactivity and selectivity towards target contaminants and surface passivation. This study synthesized high-performance sulfur-nickel co-doped microscale ZVI (S-Ni-mZVI) through a facile and cost-effective one-step ball milling method to achieve high dehalogenation activity. A comprehensive comparative analysis between mZVI, S-mZVI, and Ni-mZVI revealed the superior trichloroethylene (TCE) degradation kinetics, electron efficiency, pH tolerance, and long-term activity of S-Ni-mZVI. Specifically, S-Ni-mZVI achieved a pseudo-first-order TCE degradation rate constant of 1.05 h −1 (>97 % removal in 4 h), outperforming mZVI by 150.9-fold, and exhibited an electron efficiency of 70.7 %. Mechanistically, S (FeS) effectively suppressed hydrogen evolution (up to 99.3 % inhibition) and passivated Ni-induced hydrogenolysis, and Ni (Ni-Fe galvanic couple) augmented the electron cloud density of sulfur and synergistically promoted electron transfer in conjunction with FeS, resulting in a 6.4-fold rate acceleration. Furthermore, the co-doping of S and Ni induced Fe⁰ lattice contraction, significantly enhancing the material’s corrosion resistance. Additionally, S-Ni-mZVI exhibited broadened pH adaptability and sustained long-term degradation performance, maintaining a TCE removal rate exceeding 98 % over 13 days. Moreover, the leaching concentration of Ni remained consistently below 0.2 mg·L −1 , confirming the environmental friendliness of the material. Electrochemical analysis and kinetic isotope effect studies further revealed that Ni-mZVI degraded TCE primarily via hydrogenolysis. In contrast, S-mZVI and S-Ni-mZVI mainly employed direct electron transfer ( β -elimination). This work offers a pragmatic and scalable strategy for engineering highly active, electron-efficient, and durable ZVI-based materials for efficient remediation of chlorinated hydrocarbons.

Titanium-based lithium-ion sieves (LISs) have attracted considerable attention because of their superior adsorption capacity and cycling stability in lithium ion extraction. In this paper, an S-doped H 2 TiO 3 -ferrite ion sieve was successfully synthesized through co-precipitation scheme. The recycling problem of lithium ion sieve powder was effectively solved by utilizing its magnetic separation property. LTSO-Ferrite was prepared in one step using a high-temperature solid-phase method, with an optimal molar ratio of FeCl 2 : TiS 2 : TiO 2 = 0.2: 0.2: 1. The adsorption capacity of S-doped H 2 TiO 3 -Ferrite (HTSO-Ferrite) reached 43.02 mg/g, and the magnetization value was 4.81 emu/g. The adsorption energy and structure of Li + on LTSO-Ferrite were determined using density functional theory (DFT) to assess the feasibility of lithium absorption. The adsorption behavior of LTSO-Ferrite toward Li + followed the Langmuir isotherm and pseudo-second-order kinetic models, indicating that the adsorption was endothermic and spontaneous. LTSO-Ferrite exhibited good selectivity for heteroatoms in simulated brine. Magnetic recovery rate remained at 98 % with an adsorption capacity of 36.16 mg/g after five cycles, which is 84 % of its maximum adsorption capacity. LTSO-Ferrite exhibited magnetic separation properties, offering a promising approach for developing lithium adsorbents for extraction from unsalted lake brine.

Upgrading lignin-derived phenols to high-value arenes has garnered significant attention, while the major challenge lies in the selective cleavage of Caromatics–OH via hydroxyl hydrogenolysis. We systematically investigated the morphology-dependent properties of Ni@S-1 catalysts, encompassing their physicochemical characteristics, Ni nanoparticle properties, and the interaction between NiOx species and silicalite-1 (S-1) crystals as well as their performance in hydroxyl hydrogenolysis of vapor-phase m-cresol conversion. Both Ni@S-1 exhibited comparable Ni loading and crystal sizes but distinct morphologies, which originated from the complex intergrowth structures leading to variations in the dispersion and the location of Ni nanoparticles and significant differences in the shape-selective catalysis based on the confinement effect of S-1 channels for the vertical adsorption of m-cresol. Ellipsoidal Ni@S-1-Ell achieved m-cresol conversion of 96.9% (model reaction) along with hydrogenolysis products’ yield of 94.0%, which was 6.97 times in conversion and 22.38 times in yield of hydrogenolysis products than those of cylindrical Ni@S-1-Cyl under identical reaction conditions at 300 °C, 2.5 atm, and a feed rate of 6.0 g[m-cresol]/g[catalyst]·h.

Doping is an effective way to improve the separation efficiency of photogenerated carriers, widen visible light adsorption, and tune the band structure of carbon nitride (g-C 3 N 4 , CN). Herein, Na, S co-doped CN (CNNS- x ) photocatalysts were successfully prepared by a one-step thermal polymerization method using urea and sodium thiosulfate as the raw materials. The incorporation of Na and S not only improves the visible light response intensity and photogenerated carrier separation efficiency of CN but also enhances oxygen adsorption capacity and optimizes the energy band structure of the CN. The optimal CNNS-2.5 photocatalyst revealed a significantly enhanced photocatalytic performance and yielded 4.85 mM (24.25 mmol·g −1 ·h −1 ) H 2 O 2 in 1 h under visible light irradiation. The above yield is 4.71 times that of CN. It also revealed good stability in four cycles. The active species capture test and ESR revealed that the photocatalytic mechanism for H 2 O 2 production on CNNS-2.5 was a two-step, single-electron oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) pathway.

Heterojunction construction, especially the inorganic/organic hybrids, is regarded as a universal and effective strategy to achieve high-performance photocatalysts. Herein, a 2D/2D inorganic/organic hybrid photocatalyst was constructed by the electrostatic self-assembly of the lead-free double-perovskite of Cs2AgBiBr6 nanosheets (NSs) and covalent triazine framework (CTF) NSs. The resultant Cs2AgBiBr6/CTF-1 (CABB/CTF-1) hybrid possessed a large surface-to-surface contact area, ensuring intimate interfacial interaction and efficient charge transfer/separation. Meanwhile, the periodical pore structure of CTF-1 endowed the CABB/CTF-1 hybrid with enhanced CO2 adsorption/activation capacity. Consequently, the 2D/2D CABB/CTF-1 hybrid exhibited a remarkable photocatalytic performance toward CO2 reduction. Based on the band structure analysis and various characterization techniques, for example, X-ray photoelectron spectra and electron spin resonance, an S-scheme charge transfer mechanism was proposed. This study presents a new protocol for designing 2D/2D inorganic/organic hybrid photocatalytic systems, which hold great potentials in solar fuel applications.

Quantitative composition-structure-property (C–S–P) relationship analysis is a promising approach to correlate structural features with properties of glasses that have complex structures and lack long-range order. In this study, the structure and spectroscopic properties of two typical P 2 O 5 -MO-K 2 O-Al 2 O 3 (M = Mg, Ba) quaternary phosphate laser glasses doped with Nd 3+ ions are calculated and predicted. By using the nearest-neighboring congruently melting compounds in the phase diagram as “component and structural motifs”, correlations with properties and insights on glass behaviors can be obtained. Two key physical properties and five spectroscopic properties are predicted and verified with an error of less than 5% and 10%, respectively. Furthermore, two C–S–P databases with more than 1000 glass compositions are established for designing and optimizing new laser glasses. The results show that this approach not only gets rid of the traditional qualitative research method which relies on empirical formulas, but also promotes the quantitative calculation and predictable design of glass research.

Thiobencarb is a thiocarbamate herbicide used in rice paddies worldwide. Microbial degradation plays a crucial role in the dissipation of thiobencarb in the environment. However, the physiological and genetic mechanisms underlying thiobencarb degradation remain unknown. In this study, a novel thiobencarb degradation pathway was proposed in Acidovorax sp. strain T1. Thiobencarb was oxidized and cleaved at the C—S bond, generating diethylcarbamothioic S-acid and 4-chlorobenzaldehyde (4CDA). 4CDA was then oxidized to 4-chlorobenzoic acid (4CBA) and hydrolytically dechlorinated to 4-hydroxybenzoic acid (4HBA). The identification of catabolic genes suggested further hydroxylation to protocatechuic acid (PCA) and finally degradation through the protocatechuate 4,5-dioxygenase pathway. A novel two-component monooxygenase system identified in the strain, TmoAB, was responsible for the initial catabolic reaction. TmoA shared 28 to 32% identity with the oxygenase components of pyrimidine monooxygenase from Agrobacterium fabrum, alkanesulfonate monooxygenase from Pseudomonas savastanoi, and dibenzothiophene monooxygenase from Rhodococcus sp. TmoB shared 25 to 37% identity with reported flavin reductases and oxidized NADH but not NADPH. TmoAB is a flavin mononucleotide (FMN)-dependent monooxygenase and catalyzed the C—S bond cleavage of thiobencarb. Introduction of tmoAB into cells of the thiobencarb degradation-deficient mutant T1m restored its ability to degrade and utilize thiobencarb. A dehydrogenase gene, tmoC, was located 7,129 bp downstream of tmoAB, and its transcription was clearly induced by thiobencarb. The purified TmoC catalyzed the dehydrogenation of 4CDA to 4CBA using NAD+ as a cofactor. A gene cluster responsible for the complete 4CBA metabolic pathway was also cloned, and its involvement in thiobencarb degradation was preliminarily verified by transcriptional analysis.IMPORTANCE Microbial degradation is the main factor in thiobencarb dissipation in soil. In previous studies, thiobencarb was degraded initially via N-deethylation, sulfoxidation, hydroxylation, and dechlorination. However, enzymes and genes involved in the microbial degradation of thiobencarb have not been studied. This study revealed a new thiobencarb degradation pathway in Acidovorax sp. strain T1 and identified a novel two-component FMN-dependent monooxygenase system, TmoAB. Under TmoAB-mediated catalysis, thiobencarb was cleaved at the C—S bond, producing diethylcarbamothioic S-acid and 4CDA. Furthermore, the downstream degradation pathway of thiobencarb was proposed. Our study provides the physiological, biochemical, and genetic foundation of thiobencarb degradation in this microorganism.
