Boron (B) particles offer the advantage of high energy density for ramjet applications but suffer from challenges including difficult ignition, low combustion efficiency, and agglomeration. This study employed ammonium perchlorate (AP), a common propellant oxidizer, and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), a fluorine-containing compound, to improve the ignition and combustion characteristics of boron particles. Two types of samples were prepared: boron particles coated with AP, and boron particles mechanically mixed with PVDF. Thermal analysis indicated that both AP coating and PVDF addition facilitated the thermal decomposition of boron, significantly lowering its decomposition temperature. Laser ignition experiments under two different atmospheres revealed that AP coating consistently intensified boron combustion. The ignition delay time was reduced and the combustion temperature was increased. However, the effectiveness of PVDF addition may be influenced by the ambient oxygen concentration. Consequently, both AP coating and PVDF addition are advantageous for enhancing boron combustion.

Thermal decomposition of ammonium perchlorate (AP) typically requires high temperatures and activation energy, but the introduction of combustion catalysts will improve its thermal decomposition performance. Therefore, it is crucial to rationally design combustion catalysts for enhancing the thermal decomposition performance of AP. Herein, 3D NiO nanoflowers@2D graphite-phase carbon nitride (g-C 3 N 4 ) nanosheets (NiO@x%CN, x = 1, 3, 5, 7, 9) composite catalysts were constructed by solvothermal and calcination methods, and characterized by a series of analyses. NiO@5%CN displayed the best ability to catalyze the thermal decomposition of AP, which reduced the high decomposition temperature of AP by 113.8 °C and the activation energy by 21.67 kJ mol −1 . The combustion rate of NiO@5%CN-CSP has increased by 118 % compared to that of composite solid propellants. This work provides a new insight for the design of NiO-based high-efficiency combustion catalysts.

Formic acid (FA) is of great significance given its extensive applications in various industrial fields. At present, methanol carbonylation is the main industrial production process of FA. However, this process uses two kinds of raw materials from fossil fuels and emits a large amount of CO 2 . Alternatively, converting CO 2 into FA can not only achieve the production of value-added chemicals but also effectively address environmental issues caused by CO 2 emission. To improve the low reactivity of CO 2 , homogeneous and heterogeneous catalytic systems have been widely evaluated, among which heterogeneous catalytic systems are attracting ever-increasing attention owing to their great industrialization prospects. However, some of these heterogeneous catalysts suffer from low catalytic performance. Herein, PdAu alloy nanoparticles anchored on amine-functionalized hierarchical porous carbon (PdAu/HPC-AP) were constructed to drive efficient converting of CO 2 into FA. Characterization and testing results demonstrated that the introduced Au atoms caused lattice distortion and charge redistribution on the surface of the bimetallic catalyst, facilitating the adsorption and activation of reaction molecules. Furthermore, the modification of HPC with an appropriate amount of amine ligands was found important to the chemical adsorption of CO 2 and the dispersion of PdAu NPs. The Pd 60 Au 40 /HPC-AP catalyst with the optimum synergy of alloy and ligand demonstrated excellent activity for the target reaction with a TOF value of 486 h –1 at 100 °C. Moreover, it can even catalyze the reaction at room temperature with a TOF value of 13 h –1 .

Nerve regeneration and axonal growth can be significantly enhanced by electrical stimulation (ES) using conductive polymers. But in addition to ES, nerve cell function and how they react to substrate conductivity are also essential factors in nerve repair. As a result, ES, in conjunction with appropriate materials (such as tissue scaffolds), has been used to treat nerve damage and has demonstrated significant promise for peripheral nerve regeneration. In this work, electrospinning was used to create conductive composite scaffolds made of polyglycolic acid@polycaprolactone/aniline pentamer (PGCL/AP). We later verified that PC12 cells cultured on these scaffolds exhibited improved migration, proliferation, and vitality upon electrical stimulation. Furthermore, In the established 10-mm peripheral nerve injury model, the PAP + ES group achieved outcomes comparable to the autograft group in the assessment of functional and morphological recovery, encompassing SFI, myelination rate, and gastrocnemius muscle evaluation. In order to explore the morphology and improved electrochemical performance of diamond-like carbon (DLC) deposited on SnSb/C nanofiber derived from different precursors by the atmospheric pressure plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (AP-PECVD) technology. SnCl4•5H2O/SbCl3 (I), Sn(CH3COO)2/Sb(CH3COO)3 (II) were used as SnSb precursors, respectively, the SnSb/C nanofiber membranes were prepared by electrospinning and carbonization, and then DLC was deposited on different SnSb/C nanofibers to obtain SnSb/C/DLC nanofibers. It is shown that the densified and irregular cubic-like DLC nanoparticles were deposited on SnSb/C (I) nanofibers. While on the SnSb/C(II) nanofibers, DLC nanoparticles exhibited as sparse and spherical. Meanwhile, both SnSb/C/DLC nanofibers have good structural stability, especially higher sp3/sp2 ratios DLC was shown in the SnSb/C/DLC (I) nanofiber than that of SnSb/C/DLC (II) one. By comparison, SnSb/C/DLC(I) nanofibers have excellent electrochemical performance, the capacity retention is 69.33% after 100 cycles, and the capacity retention rate from 20 to 100 cycles is 109.24%. This reveals that DLC materials with higher C–C content and uniform distribution have a positive effect on the aspect of inhibiting SnSb alloys volume expansion.

Bisphenols are extensively used in industrial and consumer products and may pose potential risks to human health. Previous studies have shown that bisphenol A (BPA) induces chronic inflammation and lung toxicity. Bisphenol AP (BPAP), a structural analogue of BPA, has also been associated with adverse health outcomes, including metabolic disorders and mood disturbances. However, its role in pulmonary diseases remains poorly characterized. In this study, a bleomycin (BLM)-induced pulmonary fibrosis (PF) model in C57BL/6 mice was employed to investigate the effects of BPAP on pulmonary pathology. Although BPAP exposure alone did not induce PF-related pathological changes, pretreatment with BPAP (0.4 mg/kg/day) initiated 14 days before BLM administration significantly aggravated BLM-induced histopathological alterations, inflammation, and collagen deposition. This exacerbation of fibrosis was accompanied by a marked upregulation of the M2 macrophage marker arginase-1. Further in vitro assays showed that 24-hour BPAP exposure inhibited macrophage proliferation, increased oxidative stress, and enhanced both phagocytic and chemotactic activities in the RAW 264.7 mouse macrophage cell line. Mechanistic analyses revealed that BPAP modulated several key molecules involved in cell cycle regulation, phagocytosis, and chemotaxis, specifically Ttk, Fcgr1, and Ccl5. These findings indicate that BPAP exacerbates BLM-induced PF by dysregulating macrophage function. This study provides new insights into the pulmonary toxicity of BPAP and underscores the potential health risks associated with its exposure.

Purpose Hypoxia is considered to be obstructive to tumor treatment, but the reduced oxygen surroundings provide a suitable habitat for Bifidobacterium bifidum (BF) to colonize. The anaerobe BF selectively colonizes into tumors following systemic injection due to its preference for the hypoxia in the tumor cores. Therefore, BF may be a potential targeting agent which could be used effectively in tumor treatment. We aimed to determine whether a novel BF-mediated strategy, that was designed to deliver AP-PFH/PLGA NPs (aptamers CCFM641-5-functionalized Perfluorohexane (PFH) loaded poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) nanoparticles) by aptamer-directed approach into solid tumor based on the tumor-targeting ability of BF, could improve efficiency of high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) treatment of breast cancer. Methods We synthesized AP-PFH/PLGA NPs using double emulsion method and carbodiimide method. Then, we evaluated targeting ability of AP-PFH/PLGA NPs to BF in vivo. Finally, we studied the efficacy of HIFU ablation based on BF plus AP-PFH/PLGA NPs (BF-mediated HIFU ablation) in tumor. Results The elaborately designed AP-PFH/PLGA NPs can target BF colonized in tumor to achieve high tumor accumulation, which can significantly enhance HIFU therapeutic efficiency. We also found that, compared with traditional chemotherapy, this therapy not only inhibits tumor growth, but also significantly prolongs the survival time of mice. More importantly, this treatment strategy has no obvious side effects. Conclusion We successfully established a novel therapy method, BF-mediated HIFU ablation, which provides an excellent platform for highly efficient and non-invasive therapy of tumor.

Inert silica is repurposed as a potent modifier for Al-Mg/AP energetic composites. • 5 wt% SiO 2 reduces ignition delay by 35% and increases maximum flame area by 226%. • Optimal SiO 2 loading boosts pressurization rate by 126% in closed vessel tests. • 9 wt% SiO 2 reduces AP decomposition activation energy by 78 kJ/mol. Silica (SiO 2 ) is generally regarded as a chemically inert and low-cost material that is widely present in natural minerals and daily life. In conventional energetic formulations, SiO 2 is rarely considered an active component because of its high thermodynamic stability and low thermal conductivity. Herein, we demonstrate that mesoporous SiO 2 can serve as an effective reactive additive in Al-Mg/ammonium perchlorate (AP) energetic composites, participating in high-temperature aluminothermic reactions and regulating the overall energy-release behavior of the system. In this work, AP/SiO 2 precursor particles were prepared by spray drying, followed by solvent-assisted assembly with Al Mg alloy powder to obtain Al-Mg/(AP/SiO 2 ) composite energetic materials with different SiO 2 contents. The morphology, phase structure, combustion behavior, pressure output, thermal decomposition characteristics, evolved gaseous products, and post-combustion residues were systematically investigated using SEM, EDS, XRD, high-speed imaging, infrared thermography, closed-bomb pressure testing, TG-DSC, and TG-IR analyses. The results reveal that the introduction of mesoporous SiO 2 markedly alters the decomposition behavior of AP, promotes gas evolution, enhances ignition and combustion propagation, and modifies the condensed-phase reaction pathway of the Al-Mg/AP system. These effects are attributed to the combined roles of mesoporous confinement, surface silanol-assisted AP decomposition, local hotspot formation, and the participation of SiO 2 in aluminothermic reactions. This study provides new insight into the unconventional role of inert oxides in energetic combustion systems and offers a low-cost strategy for designing alternative multifunctional reactive additives and regulating energy-release mechanisms in metal-based energetic materials. The combustion of aluminum in solid propellants is inherently hindered by its surface oxide shell, leading to ignition delay, particle agglomeration, and low combustion efficiency. Herein, an onion-structured Al@Na 3 AlF 6 @AP composite is synthesized via a two-step evaporation-induced self-assembly process, sequentially depositing cryolite (Na 3 AlF 6 ) and ammonium perchlorate (AP) onto the aluminum surface. The Na 3 AlF 6 interlayer functions as a temperature switch inducing the transformation of the Al 2 O 3 into Al 6 NaO 9.5 at 700 °C and simultaneously exposing the active aluminum core. Therefore, the oxidation efficiency of Al@Na 3 AlF 6 is as high as 96.75 %, significantly surpassing the values achievable by pure aluminum and conventional aluminum alloys. Furthermore, the AP-encapsulated structure of Al@Na 3 AlF 6 @AP constructs a self-sustaining oxygen supply network during aluminum combustion and reduces the diffusion time of oxidative gases to the aluminum surface by 29.6 %. As a result, the size of aggregates during Al@Na 3 AlF 6 @AP combustion is approximately 10 μm, and the combustion heat (19.532 ± 0.133 MJ kg −1 ) is 8.4 % higher than that of the physically mixed sample Al@Na 3 AlF 6 /AP. The unique onion structure and Na 3 AlF 6 “Temperature Switch” both fundamentally reshape combustion kinetics, shifting the rate-limiting step from oxygen diffusion to aluminum oxidation activation.

In this study, the evaporation induced self-assembly (EISA) method was used to encapsulate nano-sized aluminum (nAl)/polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) into ammonium perchlorate (AP) to form isolated encapsulated units with size distribution of 1–5 μm. The encapsulated AP/nAl/PTFE composites exhibited a higher combustion heat release (20109.2 J g −1 in 3 MPa O 2 and 11137.2 J g −1 in air), shorter ignition delay time (25.0 ms) and burning time (31.0 ms) than physically-mixed ones (18348.5 J g −1 and 10595.6 J g −1 , 62.5 ms and 32.5 ms). Among all of the prepared composites, AP/nAl/PTFE with 15 wt% PTFE showed the optimum combustion performance. The Al 2 O 3 shell of nAl could be efficiently etched by the in situ formed acid and F gases from AP and PTFE decomposition, which led to cracks and holes to release more active Al. The more intimate interaction, shorter diffusion length and more active Al release contributed to the enhanced combustion performance of AP/nAl/PTFE.

Ammonium perchlorate (AP) is a commonly used oxidant for rocket solid propellants. To control the thermal decomposition of AP, a new PEI-imidazole derivative (PEI-ICA) was synthesized. With the combination of Cu compound, the heat decomposition behavior of the AP’s composites was tuned, and the activation energy was also reduced. To explore the potential reason for the catalytic effect, a series of measurements were also carried out, which indicates the electrostatic self-assembly of PEI-ICA and its combination with Cu compound should be responsible for the different heat decomposition behavior of AP.
