Interfacial mechanisms of enhanced photoluminescence in AgI-doped red light emitting perovskite quantum dot glass

Yongmin Duan,Shugang Li,Keyi Gu,Zhaojing Kuang,Juan Du,Junjie Zhang

Red light emitting perovskite quantum dot (PQD) glass, with narrow-band emission and excellent stability, holds great potential for applications in liquid crystal displays. However, its low photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) remains the biggest obstacle limiting its practical application. Additionally, the mechanism behind the enhancement of the PLQY is not well understood, which restricts the further improvement of the PLQY in red light emitting PQD glass. In this work, AgI doped red light emitting CsPbBrI 2 PQDs glass exhibitated significantly improved PLQY. The underlying mechanisms shown that the formation of Ag nanoparticles (NPs) promotes a localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) effect, which increases the charge carrier density and optical activity. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations indicate a widening of the PQD bandgap upon AgI doping, which contributes to reduced non-radiative recombination and improved PLQY. Attractively, the optimal doping concentration of 0.4 mol% AgI resulted in a maximum PLQY of 62.4 %. Finally, the PG0.4 sample demonstrated excellent thermal, water, and photostability, maintaining over 88 % of its initial emission intensity under prolonged stress conditions. These results highlight the potential of AgI-doped red light emitting CsPbBrI 2 PQDs for use in high-performance optoelectronic devices, offering both enhanced luminescence and long-term stability.

The improved photocatalytic capacity derived from AgI-modified mesoporous PANI spherical shell with open pores

Liu Xueting,Zhu Hongcheng,Wu Jingjing,Wang Fang,Wei Fengyu

Abstract Sulfonated polystyrene microspheres have been used as a template to produce a mesoporous polyaniline (M-PANI) spherical shell with open pores, based on which a novel visible-light-active AgI-modified M-PANI@AgI composite was prepared by a chemisorption method. The photocatalytic activity of M-PANI@AgI was significantly enhanced as compared to conventional PANI@AgI, and it increased with the increasing proportion of M-PANI. Superior stability was also observed in the cyclic runs, indicating that the as-prepared composite is highly desirable for the remediation of organic contaminated wastewaters. The improved photocatalytic performance is due to synergistic effects derived from the AgI-modified mesoporous PANI spherical shell with open pores, which can effectively accelerate the charge separation and reinforce the photostability of the composite. In addition, based on active species trapping experiments, a possible mechanism has been proposed. Graphical abstract

Photoresponsive colorimetric immunoassay based on chitosan modified AgI/TiO2 heterojunction for highly sensitive chloramphenicol detection

Honghong Chang,Jia Lv,Haochun Zhang,Bing Zhang,Wenlong Wei,Yan Qiao

Chloramphenicol (CAP) is an antibiotic used for a variety of infections, however, it is banned for use in food-producing animals due to its hazards to humans blood . Herein, the highly sensitive photoresponsive colorimetric immunoassay was exploited based on AgI/TiO 2 heterojunction nanomaterials . Firstly, chitosan modified AgI/TiO 2 photocatalyst (CS-AgI/TiO 2 ) was synthesized by deposition-precipitation method, which was characterized by transmission electron microscope (TEM), scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), UV–Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Then, by utilizing CS-AgI/TiO 2 labeled CAP antibody as tags, a novel competitive-type immunoassay was constructed for detection of CAP on the surface of CAP-BSA modified magnetic bead. The color development of 3,3 ′ ,5,5 ′ -tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) was obtained under visible light irradiation (λ≥420   nm) and the assay was carried out in pH 3.0 ABS buffer solution by UV–Vis spectrophotometry . Under optimal conditions, the absorbance values decreased with the increasing of CAP levels in sample, which exhibited linear in the range of 0.03–12.53   nM with a detection limit of 0.03   nM. Meanwhile, the selectivity , repeatability, and stability were acceptable. Excitedly, no significant difference was observed for detection of the spiked CAP in the real food samples with the referenced values.

Ternary TiO2/P-GQDs/AgI nanocomposites with n-p-n heterojunctions for enhanced visible photocatalysis

Shan Chuanfu,Liu Ziyi,Li Fuchao,Jia Wenhan,Cai Gaotuo,Li Ming,Tang Tao,Li Shuai,Wen Jianfeng,Hu Guanghui,Jiang Li,Li Xinyu

TiO 2 -based materials are important photocatalysts but the rapid recombination of photoexcited electron–hole pairs, and the wide band gap both limit their photocatalytic activities. In this work, p-type phosphorus-doped graphene quantum dots (P-GQDs, 5~20 nm) were combined with n-type TiO 2 nanoparticles (20~50 nm) and n-type silver iodide (AgI, 100~200 nm) by a facile sonication and precipitation process to yield a novel ternary photocatalyst TiO 2 /P-GQDs/AgI with n-p-n heterojunctions. The morphologies, structures, optical properties, and chemical environments of photocatalysts were all studied. The resulting ternary photocatalyst exhibited enhanced visible photocatalytic activity toward the degradation of methyl orange (MO), estimated to 70.4-fold that of pure TiO 2 . By contrast, the photocatalytic activities of TiO 2 /GQDs with an n-n heterojunction, TiO 2 /P-GQDs with a p-n heterojunction, and TiO 2 /GQDs/AgI (30%) with an n-n-n heterojunction showed 4.4-fold, 5.3-fold, and 14.2-fold higher than those of TiO 2. The electrochemical and optical measurements revealed that the enhanced photocatalytic activity was linked to promoted charge carrier separation by n-p-n heterojunctions coupled with the increased absorption in the visible region. Overall, the new band structure connected in series p-n heterojunctions looks promising as a highly efficient photodegradation system for future use in decontamination of polluted water. AgI/TMG-Promoted Cascade Reaction of Propargyl Alcohols, Carbon Dioxide, and 2-Aminoethanols to 2-Oxazolidinones

Xue-Dong Li,Qing-Wen Song,Xian-Dong Lang,Yao Chang,Liang-Nian He

Graphical Heterocycle promotion : An Ag 2 O/TMG (1,1,3,3-tetramethylguanidine) promoted substrate-driven and divergent route leads to a variety of heterocycles from propargyl alcohols, CO 2 , and 2-aminoethanols with turnover numbers up to 1260. The reaction proceeds through a cascade pathway with α-alkylidene cyclic carbonate as the intermediate. Chemical valorization of CO 2 to access various value-added compounds has been a long-term and challenging objective from the viewpoint of sustainable chemistry. Herein, a one-pot three-component reaction of terminal propargyl alcohols, CO 2 , and 2-aminoethanols was developed for the synthesis of 2-oxazolidinones and an equal amount of α-hydroxyl ketones promoted by Ag 2 O/TMG (1,1,3,3-tetramethylguanidine) with a TON (turnover number) of up to 1260. By addition of terminal propargyl alcohol, the thermodynamic disadvantage of the conventional 2-aminoethanol/CO 2 coupling was ameliorated. Mechanistic investigations including control experiments, DFT calculation, kinetic and NMR studies suggest that the reaction proceeds through a cascade pathway and TMG could activate propargyl alcohol and 2-aminoethanol through the formation of hydrogen bonds and also activate CO 2 .

Bingkun Liu,Ruoyu Li,Beibei Liu,Guanghui Wang,Jiayu Sun,Hongda Huang,Hengzhen Shi,Jingtao Zhang

Z-scheme WO 3 /AgI heterojunctions on carbon fiber (CF) cloth were fabricated through in-situ hydrothermal method and chemical bath deposition route. The CF@WO 3 /AgI cloth achieved highly efficient photocatalytic abilities under visible light , which could eliminate 95.7 % of Rhodamine B (RhB) in 70 min and 70.0 % of tetracycline hydrochloride (TC-HCl) in 110 min, superior to those of CF, CF@WO 3 and CF@AgI cloths. Moreover, the catalyst was able to achieve 7.0 ± 0.16 log 10 CFU/mL reduction of E. coli cells within 40 min. Recycling test confirmed the repeatability and stability of CF@WO 3 /AgI cloth. The enhanced photocatalytic performance was attributed to the increased visible light utilization, accelerated charge carriers separation and high photo-redox capabilities which came from the formation of Z-scheme heterojunction. This work provided inspiration for the construction of high-efficiency flexible photocatalysts for environmental decontamination .

Synthesis, characterization, and photocatalytic degradation of toxic dyes from wastewater using AgI@Sn-BDC-NH2 heterojunction nanocomposites

Zhang Qiuyun,Zou Huixin,Hu Siyu,He Shijian,He Maozhen,Zhang Xiaojuan,Wang Jialu,Zhang Yutao

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have attracted significant research interest as promising innovative platforms for designing heterojunction photocatalysts. Herein, we report the rational design and preparation of an AgI@Sn-BDC-NH 2 heterojunction composite via a simple and facile in-situ route to degrade organic dyes (RhB). The AgI@Sn-BDC-NH 2 structural, surface, and optical characteristics were thoroughly examined by means of XRD, FTIR, SEM, EDS, UV-Vis DRS, VB-XPS, N 2 physisorption, TG, XPS, PL, transient photocurrent, and EIS techniques. The experimental results confirmed that AgI particles were dispersed on the surface of flower-like Sn-BDC-NH 2 , and the introduction of AgI significantly boosts the photocatalytic performance of the nanocomposites. Under the operating parameters (catalyst dosage of 0.5 g/L, RhB concentration of 30 mg/L, volume of 40 mL, and illumination time of 60 min), the 30-AgI@Sn-BDC-NH 2 with the AgI loading of 30% exhibited the highest degradation efficiency in RhB, reaching 94.7%, with a photocatalytic rate constant of 0.039 min − 1 , which was 3.22 times and 26.0 times that of pure AgI and Sn-BDC-NH 2 , respectively. The enhanced activity can be originated from the formation of Z-scheme heterojunction between AgI and Sn-BDC-NH 2 with intimate interfacial contact and the synergistic effects among the components, thereby providing a mesoporous structure and larger relative surface area (27.9 m 2 /g), improving utilization of visible light, more charge transfer channels, and lower electron-hole pair recombination rates. More crucially, it retained 78.1% degradation efficiency after five cycles, confirming excellent stability. Furthermore, trapping analyses suggest that e − , •O 2 − , and h + radicals dominate the degradation reaction pathway, and then a possible mechanism of 30-AgI@Sn-BDC-NH 2 Z-scheme heterojunction was proposed. Overall, this research work highlights the potential of using Sn-MOF-based heterojunction composites as practical photocatalysts for sustainable dye-contaminated wastewater treatment. Constructing Z-scheme AgI@MIL-101(Fe) heterojunction photocatalyst for efficient photodegradation of oxytetracycline hydrochloride under visible light

Hongbin He,Xi Zhu,Ziping Huo,Bolong Liang,Shu-Xuan Liang

AgI@MIL-101(Fe) photocatalyst was fabricated via in-situ precipitation method. • The photocatalyst achieved 95.25% degradation efficiency of OTC within 180 min. • The photocatalyst exhibited excellent practical applicability in real water samples. • Z-scheme heterojunction mechanism and degradation pathway were elucidated. Owing to their extensive and long-term application as well as poor degradability, antibiotics are inevitably persistent in aquatic environments due to their extensive and long-term use as well as heir difficulty in degradation. The development of efficient photocatalysts is therefore of crucial significance in environmental purification. In this study, a Z-scheme MIL-101(Fe) heterojunction photocatalyst was rationally designed and fabricated via a combined solvothermal and in-situ precipitation methods for the efficient removal of oxytetracycline hydrochloride (OTC), where MIL-101(Fe) is a typical member of the metal-organic framework (MOF) family. A series of characterization methods were employed to systematically observe the morphology and microstructure, optical properties, and photocatalytic performance of the as-prepared photocatalyst. The AgI@MIL-101(Fe) nanocomposites achieved an OTC degradation efficiency of 95.25% within 180 min under visible-light irradiation, demonstrating superior photocatalytic activity compared to a single-component counterparts. Structural characterizations results indicated that AgI formed a tight interface contact with MIL-101(Fe), which provided an effective structural foundation for theheterojunction construction. AgI particles were well dispersed on MIL-101(Fe), effectively mitigating their aggregation and thus creating abundant light absorption and reaction sites for photocatalytic reactions. Photoelectrochemical measurements further demonstrated that the nanocomposite possessed strong light absorption ability and high separation efficiency for photogenerated carriers. The as-prepared photocatalyst also exhibited excellent practical applicability in the treatment of actual water samples from Baiyangdian Lake. Five cycles of experiments indicated that its outstanding structural and catalytic stability. Mechanistic investigations identified superoxide radicals (•O 2 − ) as the primary active factors responsible for OTC degradation. Finally, the typical Z-scheme heterojunction mechanism and degradation pathway of OTC were finally proposed. This work provides a new design strategy and practical reference for the development of high-performance photocatalysts targeting the efficient removal of OTC and other antibiotics from aquatic environments. The Construction of S-Scheme AgI/Bi₇O₉I₃ Heterojunction via Interfacial Engineering for Enhanced Photocatalytic Oxygen Evolution

Jitang Chen,Qian Li,Chengbing Ma,Yupeng Yuan,Huiquan Li

The rational design of heterojunction photocatalysts is essential for overcoming the persistent challenge of charge recombination in solar water-splitting systems. Herein, a step-scheme (S-scheme) AgI/Bi₇O₉I₃ heterojunction was fabricated using a facile one-pot hydrothermal method, where deliberate interfacial engineering enables efficient charge separation and transfer. The optimized heterojunction demonstrated remarkable photocatalytic oxygen (O₂) evolution activity, achieving a rate of 2046.22 μmol·g⁻¹·h⁻¹ under visible-light irradiation (λ ≥ 420   nm)—3.1 and 1.97 times higher than those of pristine AgI and Bi₇O₉I₃, respectively. Ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS) and electron spin resonance (ESR) analyses collectively revealed that a built-in electric field formed at the interface drives the directional migration of electrons from AgI to Bi₇O₉I₃, following an S-scheme charge transfer pathway. This mechanism not only enhances the separation of photogenerated carriers but also preserves strong redox capabilities for the water oxidation reaction. This study presents an effective interfacial engineering strategy for developing high-performance heterojunction photocatalysts and provides fundamental insights into charge behavior in S-scheme photocatalytic systems.

Xi Chen,Wenwen Zhang,Lixiang Zhang,Luping Feng,Jiangwei Wen,Jianjing Yang,Chunxian Zhang,Jie Jiang,Hua Wang

A photocatalyst of Ag 2 S/AgI-Bi 2 S 3 /BiOI was synthesized with Z -scheme heterojunctions simply by the S 2− -I − anion exchange route showing broad visible light response and enhanced photogenerated carriers properties. The yielded Ag 2 S/AgI-Bi 2 S 3 /BiOI could feature the reactive active sites of Bi 2 S 3 /BiOI and Ag 2 S/AgI heterojunctions , serving as the photogenerated electron donors and photogenerated electron acceptors , respectively. Ag bridges were generated to ensure the construction of Z -scheme strategy, which further improved the migration direction of charge carriers in nanocomposites. Moreover, the analysis of photoluminescence spectra and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy could testified the functions of heterojunctions, which dramatically achieved the enhanced separation and transferring capacity of photogenerated electron-hole pairs in photocatalyst, respectively. In addition, Ag 2 S/AgI-Bi 2 S 3 /BiOI with large specific surface area facilitated the efficient photocatalytic removal of salicylic acid (SA) (up to 89.2%) under visible light. Favorable photocatalytic production of hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) were obtained in pure water driven by the visible light. Besides, by the results of capture experiments, DMPO spin trapping ESR spectra and band structures analysis, the Z -scheme manner of the nanocomposites could promote the reduction ability of photo-generated electrons so as to produce numerous ·O 2 − during the photocatalytic reactions toward the photocatalytic SA removal and H 2 O 2 production.

A Novel In-Situ Synthesis and Enhanced Photocatalytic Performance of Z-Scheme Ag/AgI/AgBr/Sulfonated Polystyrene Heterostructure Photocatalyst

Song Bing,Tang Qingjie,Wu Wenrong,Zhang Huoli,Cao Jianliang,Ma Mingjie

Novel Z-scheme Ag/AgI/AgBr/sulfonated polystyrene composite is prepared via ion-exchange followed by light reduction. The photocatalytic activities of as-synthesized samples are evaluated through the degradation of methyl orange (RhB) under visible light irradiation. The Z-scheme Ag/AgI/AgBr/SPs photocatalysts display excellent photocatalytic activity and stability compared with Ag/AgI and Ag/AgBr. The improved photocatalytic activity is mainly due to the combined effects of the Z-scheme structure of Ag/AgI/AgBr/SPs and the strong surface plasmon resonance effect of Ag 0 nanoparticles. Moreover, after four successive cycles, the Ag/AgI/AgBr/SPs photocatalysts have no obvious loss of activity for the degradation of RhB, illustrating that the Z-scheme Ag/AgI/AgBr/SPs photocatalysts are rather stable under visible-light irradiation.

Synthesis of a novel AgI/BiOI nanocomposites and their high-efficiency visible-light driven photocatalytic degradation performance for norfloxacin

Xiaomeng Liu,Yitian Zhong,Haosheng Feng,Yanxi Zhao,Qin Li,Tao Huang

The AgI/BiOI composites were prepared with BiOI nanosheets as the substrate by in-situ ion exchange and characterized by a series of characterization methods. The photocatalytic performance tests showed that the effective separation of photogenerated electron-hole pairs as well as the photocatalytic activities of the AgI/BiOI composites could be achieved by adjusting the Ag/Bi molar ratios, which may result in changes in composition and structure of AgI/BiOI composites. Among them, the AgI/BiOI-1.2 sample with a Ag/Bi molar ratio of 1.2 demonstrated Bi5O7I composition and the highest separation efficiency of photogenerated electron-hole pairs as well as the best photocatalytic performance for norfloxacin (NOR) photodegradation. More than 98.8% of NOR could be removed on over AgI/BiOI-1.2 within 120 min under the optimum conditions. Radical quenching experiments confirmed that the photo-generated holes and ∙O2‒ radicals played significant roles during the process of photocatalytic NOR degradation. A possible Z-type heterojunction mechanism for photocatalytic degradation of NOR over AgI/BiOI-1.2 was proposed.
