Organic–inorganic perovskite solar cells have recently emerged at the forefront of photovoltaics research. Here, for the first time, graphdiyne (GD), a novel two dimension carbon material, is doped into PCBM layer of perovskite solar cell with an inverted structure (ITO/PEDOT:PSS/CH3NH3PbI3–xClx/PCBM:GD/C60/Al) to improve the electron transport. The optimized PCE of 14.8% was achieved. Also, an average power conversion efficiency (PCE) of PCBM:GD-based devices was observed with 28.7% enhancement (13.9% vs 10.8%) compared to that of pure PCBM-based ones. According to scanning electron microscopy, conductive atomic force microscopy, space charge limited current, and photoluminescence quenching measurements, the enhanced current density and fill factor of PCBM:GD-based devices were ascribed to the better coverage on the perovskite layer, improved electrical conductivity, strong electron mobility, and efficient charge extraction. Small hysteresis and stable power output under working condition (14.4%) have also been demonstrated for PCBM:GD based devices. The enhanced device performances indicated the improvement of film conductivity and interfacial coverage based on GD doping which brought the high PCE of the devices and the data repeatability. In this work, GD demonstrates its great potential for applications in photovoltaic field owing to its networks with delocalized π-systems and unique conductivity advantage.

Graphdiyne (GDY) as a novel allotrope has been theoretically predicted to be the most stable non-natural carbon allotropes. However, GDY has not been systematically investigated as a new carbon support to ORR catalysts. Thus, here we report a new strategy for the synthesis of Pd nanoparticles anchored on nitrogen-doped graphdiyne (CN x -Pd@GDY) electrocatalyst for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) via a facile pyrolysis method. The results show that the prepared CN x -Pd@GDY catalyst has exhibited excellent ORR catalysis performance with a four-electron transfer pathway in 0.1 mol l -1 KOH electrolyte compared to other commercial carbon supports such as carbon black and carbon nanotubes. Electrochemical research results show that the as-formed CN x -Pd@GDY exhibits excellent electrocatalytic ORR activity with an onset potential of 0.96 V vs. RHE and a high long-term stability in the alkaline condition. The interaction between Pd nanocrystals and the encapsulating PANI shells was found in the catalyst, which markedly contributes to the improvement in ORR catalytic activity and stability of the catalyst. Such catalytic characteristics have reasonably indicated a great potential as a novel catalyst for ORR instead of the commercial Pt-based catalyst.

Here we show that a high efficient hydrogen evolution reaction which was carried out on the in-situ growth of self-supported core-shell nanowires array consisting of graphdiyne as the shell and Cu as the core on Cu foams (Cu@GD NA/CF). Subject to potential cycling treatment in 0.5 M H 2 SO 4 , the Cu@GD NA/CF exhibits highly catalytic activity for hydrogen evolution reaction with an onset overpotential of 52 mV and a Tafel slope of 69 mV dec −1 . Our findings suggest that synergetic interaction between GD and Cu is crucial for the catalytic performance of the electrode. This electrode needs only overpotentials of 79 and 162 mV to achieve catalytic current densities of 10 and 100 mA cm –2 , respectively, and maintains its catalytic activity for almost 20 h. The attractive performances of such array make it promising candidate as a future high-performance catalyst for applications. Summary The first GD based 3D carbon nanoarchitectures with well-defined porous network structures working as a highly active hydrogen evolution cathode is developed. Its excellent electrocatalytic activities , combined with low-cost, convenient and scale-up preparation process, make it promising candidate for practical and efficient energy applications .

Graphdiyne oxide (GDYO) is a novel type of two-dimensional carbon allotrope nanomaterial consisting of a large conjugated system and excellent chemical stability. To date, application of GDYO as a nanozyme in biosensing has been rarely reported. In this study, a novel ultrasensitive colorimetric bioassay was constructed using a hemin/GDYO nanocomposite (H/GDYO) as a new nanozyme with superior peroxidase-like activity for the detection of H2O2 and glucose. It was discovered that H/GDYO exhibited 6-fold higher peroxidase-like activity than pure hemin. Catalytic kinetic analysis showed that H/GDYO had a much higher affinity for H2O2 and glucose than that of hemin. The designed colorimetric bioassay displayed excellent sensitivity for H2O2 and glucose detection with a wide linear range of 0.015–0.5 mM and 0.1–10 mM, respectively, while the limit of detection (LOD) was as low as 4.39 μM and 38 μM, respectively. Moreover, it was successfully applied for the analysis of H2O2 in milk and glucose in real human serum samples with acceptable recoveries. Importantly, the developed colorimetric bioassay shows good agreement with the results obtained from a commercial blood glucose meter. We believe that the proposed method could provide a promising prospect for medical diagnosis and biotechnology.

Active electrolyte enhanced supercapacitors (AEESCs) are considered as promising tools for enhancing power capacity due to their high specific capacitance and simple construction. However, there are many challenges, such as severe self-discharge (SDC) and rapid capacity decay. Herein, we develop a novel strategy to fabricate AEESCs with the suppression of rapid SDC, in which a self-assembled composite membrane of graphdiyne oxide/polyvinyl alcohol (GDYO/PVA) is used as a separator. The new AEESCs show a SDC time of 37160 s (1.0 V–0.3 V), which is 153 times higher than that of commercial separators, as well as an excellent capacitance retention of 95.1% after 8000 cycles. The outstanding electrochemical performance of the GDYO/PVA composite membrane can be attributed to the inherent nano-network structure, excellent proton conductivity, and high selectivity of GDYO. This new strategy of a self-assembled composite membrane based on GDYO will provide new opportunities for constructing AEESCs with super long self-discharge time and high performance.

Graphdiyne (GDY) was synthesized and for the first time blended with carboxylated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (cMWCNTs) to modify screen-printed electrode (SPE). Electrochemical response of bisphenol A (BPA) at the as-proposed electrode was studied. And the significant reduction of oxidation peak potential and enhancement of peak current were recorded, showing excellent performance for the determination of BPA. The pH of supporting electrolyte, proportion of GDY and cMWCNTs, and modification amount were optimized. At the optimal conditions, BPA was determined by linear sweep voltammetry with the linear concentration ranging from 0.2 μM to 500 μM and the estimated detection limit being 0.013 μM (S/N = 3). This sensor also showed good performance in BPA measurement of the lake water and tissue samples.

Multifunctional enzymatic nanomaterials (nanozymes) with good biocompatibility, strong enzymatic activity, and substrate specificity are the desired alternatives to natural enzymes. Here, the design of a peroxidase mimetic nanozyme capable of detecting and depleting glutathione (GSH) in the bacterial cells is presented. The nanozyme palladium-iron nanostructure decorated graphdiyne nanosheet (PdFe/GDY) was prepared by a facile hydrothermal approach. It can efficiently catalyze the decomposition of H 2 O 2 to produce •OH by a peroxidase-like mechanism. Surprisingly, the PdFe/GDY nanozymes can detect GSH in bacteria with excellent specificity and ultra-low detection limit of 24.45 nM. Moreover, the PdFe/GDY nanozymes can consume GSH for bacterial disinfection with killing efficacy > 99.99%, promote wound healing and do not cause significant toxicity in vitro and in vivo . To our knowledge, this is the first example of a GDY-based nanozyme biosensor and antibacterial agent. Collectively, this work would be indicative to construct GDY-based nanozymes in clinical diagnosis and sterilization.

Organic pollutants widely exist in the environment, causing a lot of potential harm. On account of excellent physical and chemical properties, graphdiyne (GDY) has been widely used in many potential fields. However, it is crucial to develop more synthetic methods to achieve mass production of GDY and explore its universality in the removal of organic pollutants. Herein, six transition metal salts including Cu salts and Pd salts were selected as catalysts to successfully synthesize GDY with different morphologies by a coupling reaction. The method is simple, safe, easy to operate and suitable for large-scale production. Among them, CuSO4-catalyzed GDY has higher yield (>90%), lower density and fewer defects. Furthermore, it can efficiently remove organic pollutants from water such as dyes, tetracycline antibiotics and neonicotinoid pesticides, demonstrating that the adsorption material has a certain universality. In particular, the adsorption effect of GDY on dye is comparable to that of MWCNTs and stronger than that of conventional adsorbents such as graphene and activated carbon. This work provides more possibilities for the industrial production of GDY and its promising application for the removal of organic pollutants.

Graphdiyne (GDY), a new type of carbon material with an electron-rich conjugated structure, has been investigated as a separator coating layer to enhance the electrochemical performance of lithium–sulfur (Li–S) battery. Acetylenic bond (−C≡C–C≡C−) and benzene ring in the GDY coating layer are experimentally verified to reversibly attract the soluble lithium polysulfides by chemical adsorption during cycling. Meanwhile, the shuttle effect of soluble polysulfides is further physically restricted by the GDY coating layer due to the evenly distributed pores (5.42 Å) and a consistent interlayer spacing (3.65 Å) of GDY. Moreover, GDY is a conducting carbon skeleton with high Li+ mobility that can improve the rate performance. Hence, Li–S battery with an as-prepared GDY coating layer shows excellent electrochemical performances including superior specific capacity, excellent rate performance, and low capacity attenuation rate. The high initial discharge capacity of 1648.5 mA h g–1 at 0.1C and 819.5 mA h g–1 even at a high rate of 2C is achieved by this novel separator. The initial capacity of 1112.9 mA h g–1 at 0.5C is retained to 816.7 mA h g–1 after 200 cycles with a low attenuation rate of 0.13% per cycle. Compared with other coated separators, these results show that the GDY coating layer endows the separator with superior electrochemical performances for Li–S battery.

Chloramphenicol (CAP), a broad-spectrum antibiotic agent that can inhibit protein synthesis, has caused environmental and human health problems upon excessive usage but to realize its ultrasensitive detection is still a great challenge. We report here the design and fabrication of a nanocomposite comprising graphdiyne (GDY) chelated iron-based metal–organic framework (Fe-MOF@GDY) with strong interfacial interaction to achieve high performance electrochemical sensing of CAP. Fe-MOF@GDY exhibits good selectivity, a linear range of 1 pM−24 mM and an ultralow detection limit down to 0.54 pM, among the best performance for CAP detection. It displays good reproducibility and storage stability with retained 98.4% of its initial response after 3 weeks. GDY with unique electronic structure enhances charge transfer of Fe-MOF for improved conductivity, and Fe-MOF nanoparticles are uniformly chelated on GDY for rich active sites towards CAP reduction. Fe-MOF also prevents GDY from being degraded, promoting long-term stability. A portable electrochemical chip is fabricated based on Fe-MOF@GDY, and is successfully used for accurate detection of CAP in lake water with recovery rates of 97.2–104.7%, demonstrating the practical on-site applications.

As a rising member of carbon allotropes, graphdiyne holds significant research value in terms of both its properties and applications. For properties, there is currently a lack of methods to assess the polymerization degree of graphdiyne, which is crucial to establish a standardized evaluation system for graphdiyne products; for applications, the application potential of graphdiyne materials with a low polymerization degree has not been fully explored. Herein, a biphenyl-group capping method has been engineered through the introduction of 4-ethynyl-1,1 ′ -biphenyl (4-Eb) during the synthesis of hydrogen-substituted graphdiyne (GDY). 4-Eb could operate as a “capping agent” in the cross-coupling reaction, which tuned the polymerization degree of GDY. Accordingly, a strategy for relatively quantitatively assessing the polymerization degree of GDY via the precise analysis of Fourier transform infrared spectra (FTIR) has been developed and verified by various characterization methods. Moreover, the biphenyl-group capping could improve the separation efficiency of photogenerated carriers and introduce an intermediate energy level, which was helpful to expand the practical applicability of low-polymerization-degree graphdiyne materials in photocatalysis. Specifically, the photocatalytic degradation rate of the optimal sample for rhodamine B (RhB) was enhanced by 13.0-fold relative to GDY, and that for tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH) was increased by 4.9-fold.

Bismuth is a promising anode material for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) due to its ultrahigh theoretical volumetric capacity. However, its practical application is hindered by volume expansion during cycling, which leads to rapid capacity degradation. In this study, we reported an in-situ catalytic growth approach to synthesize Bi@GDY, a nanocomposite material comprising bismuth nanospheres encapsulated within a graphdiyne (GDY) core-shell structure. This unique architecture effectively mitigated volume expansion while enhancing the sodium storage performance, resulting in remarkable electrochemical properties, including high capacity, superior cycling stability, and reliable performance over a wide temperature range. The Bi@GDY anode demonstrated an outstanding capacity of 361.6 mAh g −1 with a retention rate of 96.9 % after 3000 cycles. In-situ and ex-situ characterizations revealed improved reaction kinetics and confirmed the characteristic alloying/dealloying mechanism. Furthermore, a Bi@GDY//NVP full cell delivered a high capacity of 183.2 mAh g −1 after 700 cycles with a retention rate of 86.9 %, underscoring its potential for practical SIB applications. These findings position Bi@GDY as a highly promising anode material for next-generation SIBs.
