NH2-MIL-125(Ti) modified graphitic carbon nitride with carbon vacancy for efficient photocatalytic NO removal

Cheng Cheng,Dongyun Chen,Najun Li,Hua Li,Qingfeng Xu,Jinhui He,Jianmei Lu

This paper reports the application of NH 2 -MIL-125(Ti) modified carbon nitride C v -C 3 N 4 with carbon vacancies in the removal of NO. We performed a series of characterizations of the complex and compared various ratios with the individual components. The results of UV spectrum analysis show that the composite's range of light absorption expanded due to the modification of Ti metal–organic framework. Furthermore, the results of photocurrent and electrical impedance indicate the compound has a better ability to generate and transfer electrons . The increase in the compound's NO removal efficiency (up to 63%) indicates that MOF has a positive effect on C v -C 3 N 4 modification—a good method for photocatalysis . Moreover, the compound can promote photocatalysis in a favorable direction.

The promotion effect of nickel and lanthanum on Cu-ZSM-5 catalyst in NO direct decomposition

Mengke Liu,Yingnan Zhao,Huawang Zhao,Xianghui Li,Yuhan Ma,Xin Yong,Hong Chen,Yongdan Li

A number of M-Cu-ZSM-5 (M = La, Ni, La-Ni) samples were prepared via an aqueous solution ion-exchange method. The co-doping with Ni and La into a Cu-ZSM-5 catalyst enhanced the NO decomposition activity in a temperature range 350–550 °C. The characterization results indicate that doping with La effectively improved the dispersion of the Cu species forming more Cu 2+ ions in the sample, while the effect of Ni is likely to facilitate the implantation of Cu 2+ to form (Cu 2+ -O 2– -Cu 2+ ) 2+ dimers. The synergistic effect of La and Ni contributes to the increased (Cu 2+ -O 2− -Cu 2+ ) 2+ content in the co-doped sample, thus enhancing the NO decomposition activity.

Influence of NO Addition to n-Butanal Oxidation: Experiments and Kinetic Modeling

Yuwen Deng,Jijun Guo,Zaili Xiong,Wang Li,Changyang Wang,Meirong Zeng,Zhongyue Zhou,Long Zhao,Jiuzhong Yang,Wenhao Yuan,Fei Qi

The oxidation of pure n-butanal and the n-butanal/NO mixture was investigated in an atmospheric jet-stirred reactor at stoichiometric conditions and over the temperature range of 425–925 K. Mole fraction profiles of characteristic intermediates, like nitrogenous, carbonyl, and hydrocarbon intermediates were obtained using synchrotron vacuum ultraviolet photoionization mass spectrometry (SVUV–PIMS) via molecular beam sampling. A previous reported kinetic model of n-butanal oxidation was improved and a submechanism interpreting n-butanal/NOx interaction kinetics was developed and validated against experimental measurements. Results show that NO addition results in a featured temperature dependence of n-butanal reactivity similar to that of hydrocarbon fuels, i.e., inhibiting reactivity at low temperatures while promoting at intermediate temperatures. However, the presence of the n-butanal carbonyl group introduces distinct kinetic effects on this system compared to previously reported hydrocarbon/NO systems. Model analysis suggests a pronounced interaction between NO and the n-butanal carbonyl group, particularly at low temperatures where NO notably accelerates the removal of the carbonyl group, yielding large amounts of propyl radicals. This interaction results in the suppression of peroxy radical chemistry on the alkyl chain and chain-branching reactions of the propyl radical, thus decreasing the low-temperature reactivity of n-butanal. At intermediate temperatures, the influence of the carbonyl group on reactivity is not as pronounced and the increased reactivity primarily depends upon the impact of NOx on the active radical pool. For example, NOx-related chemistry accelerated the formation of OH radicals, thus facilitating fuel decomposition and the further conversion of CO to CO2. Besides, NO addition significantly affects the speciation of several products, such as methane, ethane, and formaldehyde, which was correlated to the additional competitive pathways introduced by NOx.

Promotional effect of Ba additives on MnCeOx/TiO2 catalysts for NH3-SCR of NO at low temperature

Youchun Pan,Yuesong Shen,Qijie Jin,Shemin Zhu

A series of Ba-modified MnCeOx/TiO2 catalysts were prepared by a wet impregnation method and tested for selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO with NH3 at low temperature. The results showed that Ba additives obviously improved the catalytic performance of the MnCeOx/TiO2 catalyst for NH3-SCR, and the BaMnCeOx/TiO2 catalyst with 3 wt% BaO exhibited the optimal catalytic performance. Moreover, the introduction of Ba also improved the resistances toward water vapor and SO2 of catalysts. The N2 adsorption, H2-TPR, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy results showed that the addition of Ba increased the specific surface area, redox properties, and concentrations of surface Mn4+ and chemisorbed oxygen of catalysts. Furthermore, NH3-TPD and NO-TPD were used to investigate the absorption of NH3 and NO on the catalyst. The results revealed that although the introduction of Ba significantly promoted the adsorption of NO, it also inhibited the adsorption of NH3. Consequently, the catalytic performance of MnCeOx/TiO2 was greatly improved with the Ba additives.

SO2-tolerant and H2O-promoting Pt/C catalysts for efficient NO removal via fixed-bed H2-SCR

Tu Baosheng,Shi Nian,Sun Wei,Cao Limei,Yang Ji

In this paper, Pt supports on carbon black powder (Vulcan XC-72) were synthesized via a hydrothermal method for selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO with H 2 in the presence of 2 vol% O 2 over a wide temperature of 20–300 °C. The results showed that the 3 and 5 wt% Pt/C catalysts resulted in high NO conversion (>90 %) over a temperature range of 120 to 300 °C, and the maximum NO conversion of 98.6 % was achieved over 5 wt% Pt/C at 120 °C. Meanwhile, the influence of SO 2 and H 2 O on the catalyst performance of 3 wt% Pt/C was investigated. The catalysts exhibited good SO 2 poisoning resistance when the SO 2 concentration was lower than 260 ppm. Moreover, a positive effect on NO conversion was detected with the addition of 3 and 5 vol% H 2 O in the feed gas stream. TEM image and good NO conversion performance of the Pt/C catalysts

Surface microstructure regulation of a novel N-CQDs /C3N4/Bi2WO6 self-cleaning synergistic photocatalytic degradation of NO coating

Yanhui Niu,Wenshuo Zhang,Huiyun Xia,Ningning Li,Lifang Song,Xu Li,Liying Cui

As well known, the apparent structure and chemical composition of self-cleaning photocatalytic coatings are crucial for their application. In this study, C 3 N 4 with a large specific surface area was introduced into N-CQDs/Bi 2 WO 6 to construct a highly catalytic active catalyst (CBW-0.5), which continuously degraded 57.7 % of NO. A robust self-cleaning photocatalytic coating (CCBW-B) was prepared by firmly bonding CBW-0.5 to the substrate through a layered spraying process. CBW-0.5 endowed CCBW-B with high catalytic activity, maintaining a degradation rate of 64.9 % for NO, and most of the surface organic dye contamination was degraded after 36 h. Due to the appropriate arrangement of low surface energy substances and micro/nano particles on the surface, CCBW-B with a graded cross network on the surface has contact angles (CA) of 156°/145° for water/olive oil, respectively. The influence of each component of CCBW-B on its photocatalytic and liquid repellent ability was studied, and the patterns for the differences in coating performance due to the changes in surface roughness structure caused by different layer distributions was discussed. In addition, the mechanism for the excellent performance of CCBW-B was explored using SEM, specific surface area, and the theory of the generation and distribution of air pockets. Finally, the durability and self-cleaning ability of CCBW-B were tested, and the synergistic mechanism of self-cleaning and photocatalysis was also provided.

S-Scheme heterojunction of Cs2SnBr6/C3N4 with interfacial electron exchange toward efficient photocatalytic NO abatement

Hao Ma,Chunyan Huang,Tianqi Tan,Wenting Li,Wei Xu,Yu Shen,Yuhan Li,Ruimei Fang,Fan Dong

Photocatalytic technology is of great significance in environmental purification due to its eco-friendly and cost-effective operations. However, low charge-transfer efficiency restricts the photocatalytic activity of the catalyst. Herein, we report Cs 2 SnBr 6 /C 3 N 4 composite catalysts that exhibit a robust interfacial electron exchange thereby enhancing photocatalytic nitric oxide (NO) oxidation . A comprehensive study has demonstrated the S-scheme electron transfer mechanism. Benefiting from the interfacial internal electric field , the C-Br bond serves as a direct electron transfer channel, resulting in enhanced charge separation. Furthermore, the S-scheme heterojunction effectively traps high redox potential electrons and holes, leading to the production of abundant reactive oxygen radicals that enhance photocatalytic NO abatement. The NO removal rate of the Cs 2 SnBr 6 /C 3 N 4 heterogeneous system can reach 86.8 %, which is approximately 3-fold and 18-fold that of pristine C 3 N 4 and Cs 2 SnBr 6 , respectively. The comprehensive understanding of the electron transfer between heterojunction atomic interfaces will provide a novel perspective on efficient environmental photocatalysis .

Ambient Temperature NO Adsorber Derived from Pyrolysis of Co-MOF(ZIF-67)

Bo Lin,Aiyong Wang,Yanglong Guo,Yuanqing Ding,Yun Guo,Li Wang,Wangcheng Zhan,Feng Gao

Co-, Ni-, and Zn-containing MOFs are prepared and then pyrolyzed to generate materials for ambient temperature NO adsorption. Materials containing Co are much more efficient for NO adsorption than those containing Ni and Zn; therefore, Co is identified as the active phase. The best performing material studied here achieves 100% low concentration (10 ppm) NO adsorption for more than 15 h under a weight hourly space velocity of 120 000 mL g–1 h–1. Powder X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared, and Raman spectroscopies, along with scanning electron microscopy and TEM, are used to probe the physicochemical properties of the materials, particularly the Co active phase, and chemistries involved in NO adsorption–desorption. NO adsorbs on oxygen-covered Co nanoparticle surfaces in the form of nitrates and desorbs as NO at higher temperatures as a result of surface nitrate decomposition. NO storage capacity decreases gradually upon repeated NO adsorption–desorption cycles, likely because of Co3O4 formation during these processes.

Three-dimensional ordered macroporous cerium–manganese composite oxide for NO oxidation

Canyang Qu,Ping Wang,Miao He,Cheng Yang,Jing Xiong,Xiaohua Sun,Yuechang Wei,Zhenxing Li

NOx is one of the main sources of air pollution, which primarily comes from automobile exhausts. Rare earth-based catalysts for NO oxidation have excellent oxygen storage and release performance and good structural stability. Herein, a series of three-dimensional ordered microporous (3DOM) cerium–manganese composite oxide catalysts with different cerium–manganese ratios for NO oxidation were prepared by the sol–gel method. The 3DOM structure improves the contact efficiency of the NO, soot and the catalyst. By incorporating Mn3+ ions into the cerium oxide lattice, a Ce–Mn solid solution forms with an ordered macroporous structure, and the interaction between cerium and manganese significantly increases the amount of reactive oxygen species. The catalyst with the optimal cerium–manganese ratio (1 : 2) was able to achieve a conversion rate of 62% at 250 °C, and the highest conversion rate reached 98%, which is far higher than pure cerium oxide and pure manganese oxide catalysts. This work provides a promising catalyst for NO oxidation and soot combustion applications.

In situ synthesis of an advanced Z-scheme Bi/BiOI/black TiO2 heterojunction photocatalysts for efficient visible-light-driven NO purification

Qian Li,Jing Hu,Haiqiang Wang,Zhongbiao Wu

Limited light absorption and severe charge recombination have been widely acknowledged as the two main obstacles restricting the application of P25 in NO photocatalytic conversion. In this work, an advanced heterojunction photocatalyst of Bi/BiOI/black TiO 2 was synthesized via an in-situ solid-state chemical reduction method. The black TiO 2 extended the light absorption to the full spectral region. It constructed a direct Z-scheme heterojunction with BiOI nanosheets, not only promoting the charge separation, but also preserving the strong oxidation ability of photogenerated holes in black TiO 2 and strong reducing ability of photogenerated electrons in BiOI. Thus, more •O 2 − and •OH radical could form when Bi/BiOI/black TiO 2 was subjected to visible light irradiation. Besides, the introduced Bi metal nanoparticles could also enhance the light utilization and served as a cocatalyst to accept the electrons. Therefore, enhanced NO photocatalytic oxidation activity was obtained, with the optimal sample Bi/BiOI/black TiO 2 exhibiting a high NO conversion efficiency of ~70% and NO x removal of ~45%. This work may provide a refreshing perspective for the design of heterojunction photocatalysts for efficient NO photocatalytic purification and other photocatalytic applications.

Resolving NO-CO competitive adsorption in CO-SCR: The role of Ni doping in Mn-Ce catalysts

Shuya Rui,Na Liu,Lingwei Ren,Yang Liu,Zian Liu,Binghui Wu,Hua Pan,Zhiping Ye

Traditional Mn-Ce catalysts for selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO with CO (CO-SCR) in iron and steel flue gases are often hindered by competitive adsorption of NO and CO, which compromises catalytic efficiency. In this study, we present a Ni-doped Mn-Ce catalyst that overcomes these challenges, achieving 96 % NO conversion, 98 % N 2 selectivity, and 44 % CO conversion at 175 °C. Comprehensive characterization of the catalyst reveals that Ni doping significantly enhances Mn-Ce interactions, boosting oxygen vacancy density and promoting efficient redox cycling between Mn 3 + /Mn 4+ and Ce 3+ /Ce 4+ . Diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (DRIFTS) confirms preferential NO adsorption at oxygen vacancy sites, minimizing CO-NO competition and stabilizing the Langmuir-Hinshelwood mechanism, where both gases co-adsorb and react at oxygen-rich vacancies. Mechanistic insights suggest that Ni facilitates electron transfer, weakening the N–O bond in NO and accelerating its dissociation, resulting in faster NO reduction. This study establishes Ni doping as a promising strategy for improving the low-temperature performance of Mn-Ce-based CO-SCR catalysts, paving the way for more efficient catalytic systems.

SO2 Tolerance of Rice Hull Ash Based Fe-Cu Catalysts for Low-Temperature CO-SCR of NO

Zhaohui Teng,Shan Huang,Na Li,Qulan Zhou

Rice husk ash (RHA) has potential as a supporter of catalysts. In this research, we studied the activity and SO2tolerance of RHA-based Fe-Cu oxide in the reduction of NO by CO. Characterization methods were employed to study the properties of the catalysts and their SO2tolerance. Activity and SO2resistance were also tested at different temperatures. We recommend two catalysts with SO2resistance ability: Fe0.67Cu0.33/RHA (the highest catalytic activity) and Fe0.8Cu0.2/RHA. The NO removal rate hardly changed with the addition of SO2and was kept at about 100%. However, the CO conversion rate decreased with increasing SO2at the lower reaction temperatures, which may be due to the formation of sulfites. Fortunately, the deactivation was reversible and can be reduced with an increase in the reaction temperature. The results of our research may help promote the application of CO-SCR.Keywords:rice husk ash;Fe-Cu catalysts;NO reduction;SO2resistance;CO-SCR
