The CoFe 2 O 4 @reduced graphite oxide (rGO) was prepared by a one-step solvothermal reaction, and then the Ag nanoparticles were deposited on the CoFe 2 O 4 @rGO by a green mild reduction reaction to form the novel Ag-CoFe 2 O 4 @rGO filler, followed by the modification of Ag-CoFe 2 O 4 @rGO using hexadecyltrimethoxysilane to form the novel H-Ag-CoFe 2 O 4 @rGO filler. The homogeneous distribution of the Ag-CoFe 2 O 4 @rGO and H-Ag-CoFe 2 O 4 @rGO fillers in the polar PVDF plastic polymer and nonpolar SBS elastomer copolymer, respectively, to form the corresponding composites was proved by SEM. The polar crystal content of the PVDF matrix in the Ag-CoFe 2 O 4 @rGO(10 wt.%)/PVDF composite was 36.13%, while the corresponding value for pure PVDF was 29.38%. The dielectric constant at 1000 Hz of Ag-CoFe 2 O 4 @rGO(10 wt.%)/PVDF and H-Ag-CoFe 2 O 4 @rGO(10 wt.%)/SBS composites was 15.54 and 2.78, respectively, while the corresponding values for pure PVDF and pure SBS were 8.39 and 2.05, respectively. Additionally, although both pure PVDF and pure SBS were non-magnetic, the magnetization values of Ag-CoFe 2 O 4 @rGO(10 wt.%)/PVDF and H-Ag-CoFe 2 O 4 @rGO(10 wt.%)/SBS composites were 0.83 emu/g and 0.47 emu/g, respectively, at 50,000 Oe. The as-prepared Ag-CoFe 2 O 4 @rGO/PVDF and H-Ag-CoFe 2 O 4 @rGO/SBS composites should have the potential for different applications including dielectric capacitors, dielectric elastomers, sensors, EMI shielding, and so on. Hydrophobic modification of bagasse fibers (BFs) through a green approach can promote its reuse in asphalt and enhance the utilization value of agricultural and forestry waste in road engineering. In contrast to traditional chemical modification, this study reports a new method for the hydrophobic modification of BFs using tannic acid (TA) and the in situ growth of FeOOH nanoparticles (NPs), resulting in FeOOH-TA-BF, which is used to prepare styrene–butadiene styrene (SBS)–modified asphalt. The experimental results show that the surface roughness, specific surface area, thermal stability, and hydrophobicity of the modified BF are improved, which is beneficial for enhancing the interface compatibility with asphalt. Specifically, compared with BF/SBS-modified asphalt, FeOOH-TA-BF/SBS-modified asphalt exhibits 39.21% and 23.26% increase in the elastic modulus G′ and viscous modulus G″, respectively, at the optimal dosage of 2.5%, corresponding to 6.15-fold and 7.13-fold increase in the fatigue life at 2.5% and 5.0% strain respectively, and 22.0% improvement in shear resistance performance. In the meantime, 2.5-fold enhancement of the storage stability. Therefore, this study provides a simple, environmentally friendly, and efficient hydrophobic modification method that is of great significance for promoting the resource utilization of solid waste BF. In this study, a surface modified polyacrylonitrile fiber (KF-PAN) with a fish-scale whisker-like biomimetic hierarchical structure was successfully prepared via in situ competition effect of Fenton reaction. The modified fibers were used as secondary modifiers to prepare fiber-reinforced styrene–butadienestyrene (SBS) block copolymers and rubber powder (RP) modified asphalt binders (KF-PAN/SBS/RP). Energy dispersive spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and atomic force microscopy analyses revealed the successful construction of bionic hierarchy on the fiber surface, and confirmed rough surface of the KF-PAN fibers. The hierarchical structure of the fiber surface acted as a buffer in the asphalt and strengthened the mutual interaction of the fiber and asphalt. Dynamic rheometer shear and strip-tensile tests showed that the KF-PAN/SBS/RP modified asphalt exhibited better viscoelasticity, rutting resistance, and tensile properties than the PAN/SBS/RP modified asphalt. The linear amplitude sweep test showed that KF-PAN/SBS/RP modified asphalt had better fatigue resistance. Thermogravimetric analysis tests indicated that the surface bionic structure of KF-PAN fibers boosted thermal stability of the fibers, which in turn enhanced the thermal stability of KF-PAN/SBS/RP modified asphalt. Fluorescence microscopy analysis showed that incorporating KF-PAN fibers improved the SBS and RP microstructure inside the asphalt, forming a good mesh structure, and alleviating the stress concentration phenomenon in SBS/RP asphalt under external traffic load.

This study presents the practical synthesis of platinum nanoparticle decorated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (Pt/MWCNTs) catalysts and their novel use in hydrogenating styrene–butadiene–styrene (SBS) triblock copolymers. The Pt/MWCNTs catalyst exhibited remarkable activity and selectivity in fully hydrogenating the polystyrene and polybutadiene segments within a styrene–butadiene–styrene (SBS) triblock copolymer. The characterizations proved that the Pt/MWCNTs catalyst possesses well-dispersed Pt nanoparticles with a large specific surface area (159.5501 m 2 /g). Additionally, the catalyst is with a mesoporous structure. As a result, the catalytic hydrogenation of SBS using a Pt/MWCNTs catalyst achieves a high degree of hydrogenation, with 100 % selectivity towards the polystyrene and polybutadiene blocks in the SBS triblock copolymer at 180 °C after 9 h. The Pt/MWCNTs catalyst was characterized via SEM, TEM, HRTEM, XRD, XPS, Raman, TG, and BET. Simultaneously, the SBS and cyclic block copolymer (CBC) were characterized via GPC, FTIR, 1 H NMR, 13 C NMR, and TG. In this work, Pt/MWCNTs catalyst with high activity and selectivity is developed for unsaturated polymer hydrogenation.

To reduce fossil energy consumption and environmental pollution, in this study, SBS modified bitumen (SMB) with self-healing performance was developed through directly adding aliphatic disulfide (ALD) containing double C C bonds in the melt blending process for enhancing its service life, and sulfur/SBS modified bitumen was also prepared for the comparison of ALD/SMB performance. Fourier transform infrared spectrum analyses indicated that the disulfide bonds of ALD have been successfully introduced between SBS molecular chains . Fluorescence microscopy imageries revealed that the addition of ALD improved the network structure of SMB, and the SMB had a more complete network structure when the dosage of ALD was 0.6%. Compared to SMB, the softening point and ductility of SMB with 0.6% ALD were increased by 4.5 °C and 5.2 cm, respectively. The results of dynamic shear rheometer and bending beam rheometer indicated that ALD improved high- and low-temperature rheological properties of SMB. The fatigue healing test revealed that ALD improved the self-healing performance of SBS modified bitumen. When the dosage of ALD was 0.6%, the healing index of ALD/SMB reached 0.86, while the healing index of SMB and sulfur/SMB were only 0.51 and 0.48. The fracture healing test showed that SBS modified bitumen with 0.6% ALD had a self-healing rate of 66.3%, whereas that of SMB and sulfur/SMB were only 35.8% and 38.2% after 20 h of healing at 50 °C, indicating that ALD significantly enhanced the self-healing performance of SBS modified bitumen.

High-content SBS-modified asphalt (HCSMA) was the primary binder material used in high-quality pavements. The aging degradation and fatigue damages of SBS cross-linked networks were the direct triggers of HCSMA properties deterioration. However, current main asphalt self-repairing enhancement technologies were unable to repair the damaged SBS structures, making it difficult to fully restore the properties of HCSMA. This study aimed to develop dual self-repairing techniques for actively repairing the SBS damages in HCSMA. To achieve this, the thermally initiated blocked dynamic isocyanate prepolymer (BDIP) was prepared as a modifier for HCSMA by introducing blocking agents and dynamic bonds into the isocyanate prepolymers. It showed that BDIP can react with asphalt components containing polar functional groups to improve the basic physical properties of HCSMA. Firstly, for the aging degradation of SBS networks, the isocyanate groups released from BDIP through deblocking reactions reacted with the active end groups in SBS degradation products to repair the aging degraded SBS, thereby constructing dynamic SBS cross-linked networks with dynamic covalent bonds. Analysis of molecular composition and fluorescence microscopy observation showed that BDIP repaired 64 % of the degraded networks in HCSMA during mild aging, resulting in the SBS networks being nearly intact. The biphasic reactions (asphalt and SBS phases) between BDIP and HCSMA enabled HCSMA/BDIP (HCSMA modified with BDIP) to exhibit excellent high-temperature deformation resistance both before and after aging. Secondly, for the fatigue damage of SBS networks, the reversible cleavage exchange reaction characteristic of dynamic bonds was used to repair the SBS fatigue damages under load. Linear amplitude sweep (LAS) test revealed that the reversible dynamic disulfide bonds in the SBS networks provided satisfactory fatigue life and excellent fatigue property stability with aging for HCSMA/BDIP. Additionally, the LAS-based healing test confirmed that the dynamic SBS cross-linked networks improved the fatigue repairing properties of aged HCSMA/BDIP, while maintaining excellent fatigue repairing property stability under aging conditions. Overall, the dual self-repairing enhancement mechanisms of BDIP were confirmed, HCSMA/BDIP demonstrated significant advantages over HCSMA without BDIP, most notably exhibiting at least a 50 % increase in shear viscosity and fatigue life.

γ-aminopropyltriethoxy silane organic layered double hydroxides (LDHs) and SBS were combined into LDHs/SBS composite to improve anti-ageing performance of SBS modified bitumen (SMB). XPS and SEM showed that organic LDHs (OLDHs) was successfully grafted onto SBS, and OLDHs could be more evenly distributed in SBS, which was conducive to improve the anti-degradation capability of SBS. Compared with SBS and LDHs/SBS composite, the interaction between OLDHs/SBS composite and bitumen was stronger, resulting in the better stabilization of SBS and LDHs in bitumen. Furthermore, OLDHs/SBS composite could enhance the high-temperature property of SMB. SMB became hard and brittle during ageing, the physical and rheological properties were remarkably deteriorated. LDHs/SBS and OLDHs/SBS composite could alleviate the damage of ageing on the high- and low-temperature performance of SMB and enhance the anti-ageing capacity, particularly OLDHs/SBS composite. Then, the improvement mechanism of OLDHs/SBS and LDHs/SBS composite on the anti-ageing capability of SMB was analyzed at microscopic scale. LDHs/SBS and OLDHs/SBS composite could hinder the infiltration of oxygen into bitumen and decrease the oxygen content, and simultaneously decelerate the oxygen diffusion rate in bitumen. The synergistic combination of these two functions conspicuously diminished the probability of oxygen colliding with bitumen or SBS, which relieved the ageing of bitumen and the degradation of SBS, and ultimately improved the anti-ageing capability of SMB. Furthermore, due to the better stability, the effectiveness of OLDHs/SBS composite was more notable than LDHs/SBS composite, OLDHs/SBS composite demonstrated superior improvement on the anti-ageing capability of SMB than LDHs/SBS composite.

This study developed UV-responsive microcapsules to enhance the self-healing properties of asphalt, addressing the limitations of low survival rates and single-release mechanisms in current encapsulated rejuvenators. The microcapsules, featuring a urea-formaldehyde shell embedded with polydopamine-coated black phosphorus nanosheets (BP/DA) and microalgae bio-oil as the core, can convert solar energy into thermal energy, promoting proactive self-healing in asphalt materials. BP/DA expands the microcapsules' light absorption range, enhancing their photothermal conversion efficiency. When incorporated into styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS)-modified asphalt at a 1.5% dosage, the microcapsules (BP/DA/MC) improved the mechanical properties: ductility increased by 13.7%, softening point rose by 2%, and penetration decreased by 3.3%. The storage modulus (G′) at 46 and 64°C increased by 35.9% and 24.3%, respectively, compared to SBS asphalt. Additionally, the ductility self-healing rate of BP/DA/MC/SBS asphalt improved by 209.7%, with a healing index (HI) of 78.16%. The microcapsules also demonstrated excellent photothermal conversion, increasing the asphalt's temperature by 22.6% under identical lighting conditions. This research offers a new method for developing intelligent self-healing asphalt with multi-mechanism activation, providing theoretical support for future third-generation microcapsule-based asphalt with remote-controlled release and activation response.

Graphical SBT zeolites and FAU-SBT-SBS triple intergrowth zeolites were synthesized using three asymmetric di-quaternary ammonium salts as structure-directing agents. The FAU-SBT-SBS intergrowth exhibited higher selectivities for ethylene and propylene than that of Y zeolite in catalytic upgrading of polyethylene pyrolysis oil, owing to presence of more strong acid sites. Organic structure directing agents (OSDAs) based on asymmetric di-quaternary ammonia compounds have been rarely explored in crystallization of zeolites, owing to difficulties in structural control. Their use holds promise to regulate physicochemical properties of zeolitic materials toward enhancing the relevant catalytic performances. In this study, a stepwise alkylation of 1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane (Dab) to generate asymmetric di-quaternary derivatives has been established, enabling their use as OSDAs in large pore zeolite synthesis. Through exploratory syntheses, we showed that small Me-Dab-Et can direct the formation of SBT zeolite in multiple inorganic cation (Cs + ─Na + ) crystallization, while the bulky Me-Dab- i Pr and Me-Dab- s Bu lead to the formation of FAU - SBT - SBS intergrowths. The obtained SBT zeolite exhibited higher olefin selectivity in catalytic upgrading of pyrolysis oil derived from polyethylene, with respect to alike cage-containing faujasite ( FAU ) zeolite. Our findings expand the library of asymmetric di-quaternary OSDAs and highlight their capability to achieve phase selective synthesis of large pore zeolites.

To promote the green and sustainable development of asphalt recycling technology, this study employed hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) to organically modify zeolite, producing an eco-friendly reactive zeolite bearing active isocyanate groups (AIG-Z). The chemical structure, crystalline configuration, particle size distribution, pore characteristics, and micromorphology of the obtained material were systematically characterized. Subsequently, the aged SBS modified asphalt (PmA) was rejuvenated using a composite of AIG-Z and cardanol. A comprehensive evaluation was conducted on the physical properties, rheological behavior, aging resistance, and fume emission characteristics of the rejuvenated PmA. Additionally, the road performance of the corresponding asphalt mixture was analyzed. The results indicated that AIG-Z was successfully prepared, with HDI achieving surface grafting without altering its crystal structure. Moreover, AIG-Z exhibited improved dispersibility and a reduction in particle size. Both unmodified zeolite and AIG-Z were able to enhance the overall performance of the rejuvenated PmA and its mixture, with AIG-Z showing the most pronounced improvement. Compared to unmodified zeolite, AIG-Z decreased the storage segregation of rejuvenated PmA by 76.47 % while also reducing the emissions of VOCs, H 2 S, SO 2 , and NO x by 39.75 %, 45.45 %, 48.89 %, and 31.36 %, respectively. The high-temperature stability of the rejuvenated PmA was improved by the AIG-Z, with the critical rutting temperature increasing by 2.5°C, and the R̄ 0.1 and R̄ 3.2 values rising by 14.12 % and 17.98 %, correspondingly. Concurrently, AIG-Z also significantly enhanced the aging resistance of the rejuvenated PmA. In terms of mixture performance, AIG-Z could further increase the dynamic stability of the recycled mixture by 1563 times/mm, enhance the maximum flexural tensile strain by 658 με, and improve the freeze-thaw splitting strength ratio by 7.97 %.

In battery thermal management (BTM), flexible phase change materials (FPCMs) emerge as highly promising substances, owing to their simple installment and low contact thermal resistance. However, FPCMs based on high thermal conductivity fillers and polymers always suffer from the enduring challenges of poor high-temperature resistance and poor filler-matrix compatibility. To solve these problems, a novel strategy is reported in this work, wherein FPCMs with excellent filler-matrix compatibility and satisfactory high-temperature resistance are synthesized by two steps: functionalizing the hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) surface and inducing the inter crosslinking between Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene(SBS) and Low-density polyethylene(LDPE). Vinyltrimethoxysilane (VTMS) molecules were introduced on the surface of raw hBN by hydroxylation and silanization surface modification to improve the compatibility of hBN with the matrix. Concluding from the results, the addition of 6.7 wt% LDPE doubled the high-temperature resistance of FPCMs, enabling them to maintain their structural integrity even at 200 °C for 1 h. The prepared FPCMs also exhibited higher thermal conductivity (increased by 20.5 %), low leakage rate (<0.6 wt% after 70 heating–cooling cycles), high enthalpy (122 J g −1 ), and strong adhesion (>0.1 MPa), etc. In terms of BTM performance, the FPCMs-based passive cooling BTM presents remarkable temperature control capabilities (maximum temperature reduction by 16.3 ℃) and uniform temperature performance (maximum temperature difference < 2.5 ℃). Collectively, this work will provide a promising approach for the fabrication of high-performance FPCMs in BTM and other thermal management applications for electronic devices.

Recently, wearable piezoresistive tactile sensors have attracted considerable attention owing to their potential applications, ranging from electronic skin to human-machine interaction. However, it is still difficult to mitigate the trade-off between sensitivity and linearity. Inspired by the hierarchical and gradient structures in natural systems, a versatile resistive pressure-sensing platform with controllable stress transfer and contact areas was fabricated by designing gradient styrene-butadiene-styrene triblock copolymer (SBS) sponges followed by the deposition of silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) and polypyrrole (PPy). The gradient porous structures accompanied by gradient stiffness and conductivity enabled the external force to be efficiently transferred and localized to the sensing areas. Furthermore, the structures enabled a controllable response to the external stress via the gradual activation of electron pathways . These synergistic effects enabled the bioinspired tactile sensors to possess excellent sensing performance, which is demonstrated by large sensing range (∼80%), large linear range (∼72%), high sensitivity (∼1.07), low hysteresis behavior (7.66%), fast response time (177 ms), and excellent durability (more than 1100 cycles). Important applications of tactile sensors, including wrist-pulse-signal detection, speech recognition, finger bending, and tactile interfaces, have been successfully demonstrated. This conceptually simple but powerful approach can be applied to other nanomaterial systems to develop next-generation electronics.
