Mo doping V0.76Mn0.032Ni0.029O2 vanadium based ternary metal oxides as cathode active materials for lithium-ion hybrid supercapacitor with high lithium storage performance

Lan Li,Runna Shi,Shuang Yan,Xiaoshi Lang,Kedi Cai

Lithium-ion hybrid supercapacitors as high-performance energy storage devices are proposed to bridge the electrochemical performances between lithium-ion batteries and supercapacitors . In this paper a novel Mo doping V 0.76 Mn 0.032 Ni 0.029 O 2 vanadium based ternary metal oxide is constructed as cathode active material for lithium-ion hybrid supercapacitor. Structural analysis demonstrates Mo doping as interlayer support can ameliorate the V 0.76 Mn 0.032 Ni 0.029 O 2 crystal structure and raise the lattice size thus providing more adequate mass transfer channels for lithium-ion storage. In addition, 5 % Mo doping V 0.76 Mn 0.032 Ni 0.029 O 2 represents relatively regular crystal particle arrangement with some integrated crystalline form and closely packing together. These structural features enable them to exhibit higher lithium storage performance and when as cathode active material for lithium-ion hybrid supercapacitor, it exhibits the lowest electrochemical and concentration polarization and the highest discharge specific capacities of 150.7, 140.2, 125.4 and 102.5 mAh.g −1 at different current densities along with a high capacity retention rate of 77.3 % at 1000 mA g −1 current density after 2000 cycles.

Mo-doped carbon-dots nanozyme with peroxide-like activity for sensitive and selective smartphone-assisted colorimetric S2− ion detection and antibacterial application

Dai Li,Huajie Chen,Yutao Zheng,Sheng Zhou,Fengyuan Yong,Xiangbo Zhang,Kui Wang,Huiyun Wen,Jiyong Wu,Weiming Xue,Saipeng Huang

Sulfur ion (S 2− ) plays a significant and considerable role in many living organisms and ecosystems, while its abnormal content can pose a serious hazard to human health and ecological environment. Hence, it is extremely meaningful to construct a highly sensitive and selective analytical platform for S 2− detection in complex microenvironment, particularly in biological systems. In this study, phosphomolybdic acid and L-Arg were utilized to prepare a new molybdenum doped carbon-dots nanozyme (Mo-CDs) with great peroxidase-like activity by one-step hydrothermal approach. In the presence of H 2 O 2 , Mo-CDs converted 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethyl benzidine (TMB) into blue oxTMB, but S 2− strongly reduced the blue solution to colorless and then brown, which established significant selectivity toward S 2− . Mo-CDs illustrated a wide linear range (2.5 μM–900 μM) and low detection limit (LOD = 76 nM) by ultraviolet and smartphone-assisted visualized colorimetric analysis. Especially, the smartphone-assisted analysis platform successfully realized quick, portable, sensitive and visible identification of S 2− with high recovery (95.7–106.7 %) and excellent specificity in water samples. More importantly, Mo-CDs was developed to antibacterial applications based on good peroxidase-like activity. This research not only constructed a new and efficient carbon-dots nanozyme and a low-cost, portable, visual analysis platform for real-time detection of S 2− , but also proposed a novel design strategy and methodology for exploiting multifunctional nanozyme detection tool with great practical application.

Modulation of electronic structure of Ni3S2 via Fe and Mo co-doping to enhance the bifunctional electrocatalytic activities for HER and OER

Ting Wang,Bowen Li,Ping Wang,Ming Xu,Dandan Wang,Yuqi Wang,Wenjing Zhang,Chaoqun Qu,Ming Feng

Heazlewoodite nickel sulfide (Ni 3 S 2 ) is advocated as a promising nonnoble catalyst for electrochemical water splitting because of its unique structure configuration and high conductivity. However, the low active sites and strong sulfur–hydrogen bonds (S–H ads ) formed on Ni 3 S 2 surface greatly inhibit the desorption of H ads and reduce the hydrogen and oxygen evolution reaction (HER and OER) activity. Doping is a valid strategy to stimulate the intrinsic catalytic activity of pristine Ni 3 S 2 via modifying the active site. Herein, the Ni foam supported Fe and Mo co-doped Ni 3 S 2 electrocatalysts (Fe-MoS 2 /Ni 3 S 2 @NF) have been constructed using Keplerate polyoxomolybdate {Mo 72 F 30 } as precursor through a facile hydrothermal process. Experimental results certificate that Fe and Mo co-doping can effectively tune the local electronic structure, facilitate the interfacial electron transfer, and improve the intrinsic activity. Consequently, the Fe-MoS 2 /Ni 3 S 2 @NF display more excellent HER and OER activity than MoS 2 /Ni 3 S 2 @NF and bare Ni 3 S 2 @NF by delivering the 10 and 50 mA cm −2 current densities at ultra-low overpotentials of 74/175 and 80/160 mV for HER and OER. Moreover, when coupled in an alkaline electrolyzer, Fe-MoS 2 /Ni 3 S 2 @NF approached the current of 10 mA cm −2 under a cell voltage of 1.60 V and exhibit excellent stability. The strategy to realize tunable catalytic behaviors via foreign metal doping provides a new avenue to optimize the water splitting catalysts.

Orientation growth modulation of Mo-Doped Ni3S2 heterostructures utilizing Polysulfide as a sulfur source and in-situ intercalation for enhanced electrocatalytic performance

Yijie Yang,Shun Yao,Ying Li,Yuanhang Wu,Chang Li,Congshu Hang,Hui Li

Development of efficient, low-cost, and bifunctional catalysts based on ultrathin heterostructures for both the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is critical for advancing overall water splitting. In this study, we design a simple intercalation-sulfidation strategy by rigid segment-containing Polysulfide as a sulfur source and in-situ intercalation for the construction of the metastable 1 T'-2H'-phase Mo-Ni 3 S 2 heterostructures (1 T'-2H'-Mo-Ni 3 S 2 ). It is found that the Polysulfides with rigid segments can be controlled by various monomers reacted with reverse sulfurization reactions between various monomers and elemental sulfur, such as Poly (sulfur-random-1,3-Benzenedithiol), Poly (sulfur-random-1,4-Benzenedithiol), and Poly (sulfur-random-4,4′-Biphenyldithiol), which can be used to assist in the synthesis process of metastable. Attributing to favorable synergy interaction in composition and structure, the resultant 1 T'-2H' phase Mo-Ni 3 S 2 heterostructures shows the superior performances toward OER and water splitting in alkaline medium. The resultant Mo-Ni 3 S 2 -BDP needs only an overpotential of 103 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm −2 and for OER. For HER, it demonstrates a low overpotential of 136 mV at 10 mA cm −2 , and a relatively low cell voltage of 1.672 V for water splitting. The present provides a new strategy to design and develop the phase engineering of other materials with various Polymorphs.

Mo-doped and vacancy-rich Ni2P@NC anode: A dual-strategy approach to high-capacity and long cycle life sodium-ion batteries

Qiangqiang Shi,Shuling Liu,Xinyue Liu,Jiale Guo,Zhipeng Qin,Jianbo Tong

The development of high-performance anode materials for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) remains critical to overcome the limitations of lithium-ion technologies. In this work, Mo-doped Ni 2 P encapsulated in nitrogen-doped carbon (Mo-Ni 2 P@NC) SIB anodes with nanosheet-stacked porous architectures through a solvothermal and chemical vapor deposition (CVD) approach were synthesized. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analyses confirmed lattice expansion due to Mo substitution. Electrochemical evaluations revealed that Mo doping significantly enhanced the initial Coulombic efficiency (ICE) from 51.6 % (pristine Ni 2 P) to 70.2 % and achieved a reversible specific capacity of 456 mAh g −1 at 2.0 A g −1 after 2000 cycles. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations demonstrated that Mo doping induced charge redistribution, lowered Na + adsorption energy. Furthermore, vacancy defects produced by Mo-doping facilitate rapid ion transport and pseudocapacitive-dominated Na + storage behavior minimized volume changes, ensuring long-term stability. Simultaneously, the optimized Mo-Ni 2 P@NC-2||Na 3 V 2 (PO 4 ) 3 /C full-cell delivered 143 mAh g −1 after 200 cycles at 0.1 A g −1 , highlighting its practical application. This work elucidates the synergistic effects of heteroatom doping and vacancy in enhancing SIB anode performance, providing a strategy for designing high-ICE and durable energy storage materials.

Enhancing the corrosion resistance of austenitic steels in molten solar salt at 700 °C using gradient eutectic Fe-Ni-Mo alloy coatings

Sijie Liu,Renda Wang,Ping Yu,Kun Liang,Li Wang,Mengyu Gao,Yang Si,Chuang Zhu,Fangfang Ge,Bingsheng Li

In this study, molybdenum (Mo) coatings were deposited on 304 stainless steel (304SS) plates using magnetron sputtering. Subsequently, the samples were annealed at 800 °C under vacuum for varying durations to enhance adhesion strength and thermal stability. Immersion tests were conducted at 700 °C for up to 800 h. After 200 h of immersion, the weight loss of the annealed Mo-coated 304SS was significantly reduced from approximately 11 mg/cm 2 to about 0.44 mg/cm 2 . The Mo-enriched layer effectively suppressed the outward diffusion of alloy elements and facilitated the formation of Cr 2 O 3 by trapping Cr in the interdiffusion layer. Additionally, the Mo 3 Fe 3 O phase formed on the coating surface via diffusion reaction exhibited certain corrosion-resistant properties. Obvious interfaces emerged within the interdiffusion layer, and their formation mechanisms were analyzed. After four thermal cycles (with a 200-h interval), partial delamination of the Mo-enriched layer in the annealed Mo-coated 304SS was observed. This may have resulted from the substantial growth stress of Cr 2 O 3 and the significant mismatch in thermal expansion coefficient between Mo coating and 304SS.

Strategies for Tuning Tensile Strain and Localized Electrons in a Mo-Doped NiCoCu Alloy for Enhancing Ampere-Level Current Density HER Performance

Guangfu Qian,Yunpeng Wang,Liancen Li,Minsheng Lu,Changzhou Chen,Douyong Min,Zengxi Wei,Panagiotis Tsiakaras

Developing high-activity non-noble metal catalysts for improving the ability of water dissociation and H* adsorption/desorption in the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) process in alkaline and neutral electrolytes is essential but remains challenging. Herein, a Mo-doped NiCoCu alloy with tuned tensile strain and localized electrons is designed and synthesized by combining the solvothermal and annealing methods for achieving ampere-level HER performance. Theoretical calculation results prove that Mo doping induces lattice tensile strain and localized electrons (electrons from Mo to the Ni/Co/Cu atoms), promoting the adsorption of O* and H* from H 2 O molecules on the Mo and Co sites and accelerating water dissociation. Therefore, NiCoCu-Mo 0.078 /CF (CF = copper foam) shows low water dissociation energy, providing sufficient H* during the HER process. Meanwhile, its H* Gibbs free energy value is near zero, implying a rapid H* adsorption/desorption process. Electrochemical results show that NiCoCu-Mo 0.078 /CF achieves better HER intrinsic activity in both a 1.0 m KOH ( η −10 /η −1000 = 35/212 mV) and a 1.0 m phosphate buffer solution ( η −10 /η −1000 = 24/256 mV) compared to NiCoCu-Mo 0 /CF and NiCoCu-Mo 0.163 /CF, and it can continuously operate for 100 h at −1000 mA cm −2 . This work shows a sustainable way to design high-performance catalysts for water electrolysis and proposes a well-performing HER catalyst.

Enhanced photocatalytic degradation of sulfamethoxazole using MIL-101(Fe) supported Mo single-atom with oxygen vacancies under visible light activation of peroxymonosulfate

Weitao Kong,Zhongmou Liu,Jinghui Wu,Chenying Wen,Juncheng Yan,Yidi Gao,Guanqiao Li,Xianze Wang,Mingxin Huo

This study investigates the degradation of sulfamethoxazole (SMX), a widely detected and persistent antibiotic in the environment, using a novel photocatalytic system based on MIL-101(Fe) supported Mo single-atom with oxygen vacancies (Mo/Ov-MOF). Anchoring Mo single-atoms into the MOF structure enhances catalytic activity by effectively improving charge separation and reducing electron-hole recombination. The Mo/Ov-MOF efficiently activates peroxymonosulfate (PMS) under visible light, generating singlet oxygen ( 1 O 2 ) as a primary reactive species responsible for SMX degradation. Degradation experiments demonstrated that the degradation efficiency reached 96.8 % in the presence of PMS and visible light. Through quenching and trapping experiments on active species, an in-depth investigation into the source of 1 O 2 was performed, demonstrating the crucial role of holes in the rapid and selective generation of 1 O 2 under visible light. Additionally, the reusability of the Mo/Ov-MOF catalyst was confirmed, maintaining over 70 % degradation efficiency after five cycles. Toxicity assessments indicated that the degradation by-products exhibited significantly lower toxicity than the parent compound SMX, thus mitigating potential ecological risks. The mechanistic insights reveal that oxygen vacancies and Mo single-atom enhance electron transport and facilitate efficient PMS activation, ultimately leading to effective pollutant degradation. The findings underscore the potential of the Mo/Ov-MOF photocatalytic system for practical applications in wastewater treatment, particularly for removing persistent organic pollutants from aquatic environments.

Spontaneous generation of an atomically dispersed Mo and MoS2 coupling catalyst via reaction induction transformation for enhancing local hydrogen concentration in hydrogenation

Guangxun Sun,Peng Xue,Changle Yue,Yang Li,Hongfu Shi,Xin Zhang,Fengyu Tian,Junxi Li,Zekun Guan,Bin Liu,Zhi Liu,Yunqi Liu,Yuan Pan

The development of a synergistic coupling catalyst at the atomic scale for slurry-phase hydrogenation of vacuum residue (VR) is extremely challenging. Herein, we designed and constructed a robust coupling catalyst comprising Mo single atoms and MoS2 (Mo SAs–MoS2) using a reaction induction transformation strategy. The spontaneous generation of Mo SAs–MoS2 synergistically promoted H2 activation and enhanced local active hydrogen concentration in the hydrogenation of VR. Benefiting from the strong hydrogen concentration distribution in MoS2 and Mo SAs, the catalyst revealed remarkable hydrogenation performance toward VR with a TOFT of up to 0.39 s−1, liquid product yield of 92 wt%, and coke content of 0.6 wt%. Theoretical calculations revealed that the synergistic action of Mo SAs–MoS2 facilitated electron transfer between Mo species and reactants, reducing the desorption energy barriers for H2 and anthracene and thereby promoting the hydrogenation of VR. This work provides a novel idea for the design of efficient coupling catalysts for strengthening local active hydrogen concentration in the hydrogenation of VR, and this concept can be applied to other hydrogenation systems.

Layered MoS2@graphene functionalized with nitrogen-doped graphene quantum dots as an enhanced electrochemical hydrogen evolution catalyst

Tong Guo,Lina Wang,Sen Sun,Yan Wang,Xiaoling Chen,Kangning Zhang,Dongxia Zhang,Zhonghua Xue,Xibin Zhou

A novel three-dimensional (3D) layered MoS 2 @graphene functionalized with nitrogen-doped graphene quantum dots (MoS 2 @N-GQDs-GR) composites as an enhanced electrochemical hydrogen evolution catalyst. The few layered MoS 2 nanoflowers supported on N-GQDs-GR surface were elaborately fabricated by one-pot hydrothermal method, which MoS 2 and N-GQDs-GR exist in a bonding manner of Mo-N. In addition, due to the layered MoS 2 sheet edge exposes more hydrogen evolution active sites and N-GQDs-GR have high conductivity, the composites exhibit prominent electrocatalytic activity with a low overpotential 99 mV, a small Tafel slope 49.3 mV/dec. Therefore, that the current work will develop HER catalysts may replace Pt.

Electrochemical and Optical Insights into Interfacial Connection for Fast Pollutant Removal: Experimental Study of g-C3N4/BiOCl Heterojunction for Rhb and MO Photodegradation

Hadja Kaka Abanchime Zenaba,Mi Long,Xue Liu,Mengying Xu,Wen Luo,Tian Zhang

Developing efficient heterojunction photocatalysts is essential to address the challenge of degrading persistent organic pollutants. In this study, a multi-scale characterization strategy was employed to investigate the implications of interfacial connectivity between synthesized graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) /bismuth oxychloride (BiOCl)e removal of Rhodamine B (RhB) and Methyl Orange (MO). Morpho-structural characterizations, including Scanning/Transmission Electron Microscopy (SEM/TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and N2physisorption (Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET)) analyses, confirmed the successful construction of an intimate interfacial contact between g-C3N4and BiOCl. The optimized composite (15% g-C3N4/BiOCl), prepared via a one-step hydrothermal method, exhibited enhanced photocatalytic performance following pseudo-first-order kinetics described by the Langmuir–Hinshelwood model, with apparent rate constants of 0.166 min−1for MO and 0.519 min−1for RhB. Under visible-light irradiation, degradation efficiencies of 98% for MO (120 min) and 99% for RhB (35 min) were achieved, outperforming the pristine components. Complementary optical and electrochemical analyses indicate improved light absorption and charge-separation efficiency in the heterojunction system. In addition, the photocatalyst demonstrated good operational stability over four consecutive cycles, maintaining 91.70% activity for MO and 99.76% for RhB. Overall, this work highlights the synergistic photocatalytic g-C3N4/BiOCl heterojunction and provides a valuable insight to guide the design of advanced materials for pollutant remediation.

Transition Metal/Metal Oxide Interface (Ni–Mo–O/Ni4Mo) Stabilized on N-Doped Carbon Paper for Enhanced Hydrogen Evolution Reaction in Alkaline Conditions

Zeqi Jin,Lan Wang,Tao Chen,Junmei Liang,Qicheng Zhang,Wenchao Peng,Yang Li,Fengbao Zhang,Xiaobin Fan

Designing hydrogen evolution reaction catalysts with high performance in alkaline conditions is important for reducing energy consumption during water electrolysis. This study reports an electrodeposition–calcination–electrodeposition strategy to construct the Ni–Mo–O/Ni4Mo nanointerface on an N-doped carbon support derived from polyaniline on carbon fiber paper. The N-doped carbon support not only stabilizes the metal/metal oxide nanointerface but also generates more active intrinsic sites and electrical conductivity via the metal–N interaction. The obtained Ni–Mo–O/Ni4Mo@NC displays a low overpotential of only 61 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm–2 for alkaline HER in 1 M KOH.
