Lubrication antagonism mechanism of nano-MoS2 and soot particles in ester base oil

Zhong Chonglong,Hu Kunhong,Xu Yong,Hu Enzhu,Hu Xianguo

Spherical nano-MoS 2 (S-MoS 2 ) has excellent lubricating properties and potential application value in engine oil additives. Engine soot can enter the engine oil, so the tribological interaction between S-MoS 2 and diesel combustion soot (DCS) should be investigated. In this study, DCS was used to simulate engine soot. The interaction was investigated in dioctyl sebacate (DOS), and the interaction mechanism was full characterized. Results showed that S-MoS 2 and DCS had obvious antagonism effects on lubrication. The 0.5% S-MoS 2 exhibited good lubricating properties in DOS, which could reduce friction by ∼22% and wear by ∼54%. However, after 0.5% S-MoS 2 was added to the 0.5% DCS contaminated DOS, the lubrication performance was not improved and was even worse than that without S-MoS 2 . When S-MoS 2 was added for DOS lubrication, a tribofilm containing MoS 2 formed on the friction surface, but simultaneously adding 0.5% DCS resulted in the disappearance of the MoS 2 tribofilm. Moreover, under the action of friction heat, DCS and S-MoS 2 could form hard Mo x C y , thereby increasing abrasive wear. Finally, a preliminary deantagonism method was provided. After 2.0% zinc isooctyl dithiophosphate was added to the above antagonistic system, the friction coefficient did not show visible changes, but the wear recovered to a level close to that when only S-MoS 2 was added. The antiantagonism method is not very satisfactory and some more efficient methods need to be further explored.

Influence of MoS2-La/CQDs quantum dispersion on the tribological behaviors of PEG200

Xu Tan,Xiuqian Yu,Wenyang Huang,Yifan Zhou,Enzhu Hu,Xingkai Ding,Chuan Li,Kunhong Hu

Two kinds of the novelty lubricant additives (La/CQDs and MoS 2 -La/CQDs dispersions) were synthesized via a simply hydrothermal approach. The dispersions were demonstrated a significant enhancement in the lubrication performance of polyethylene glycol (PEG200). A series of modern analysis technologies were used to elucidate the anti-wear and anti-friction mechanisms of dispersions in PEG200. Results demonstrated that dispersions markedly improved the lubrication performance of PEG200 at 25, 75 and 100 °C. PEG200 containing 0.3 wt% MoS 2 -La/CQDs demonstrated the greatest decrease in the friction coefficient and wear rate, with reductions by 66.3 % and 35.5 % at 100 °C, respectively. Friction and wear mechanisms are ascribed to the engagement of nanoparticle-active components in both dispersions, which facilitate the formation of boundary lubrication films. 1

Improved HER/OER Performance of NiS2/MoS2 Composite Modified by CeO2 and LDH

Hao Li,Feng Chen,Xinyang Wu,Dandan Wang,Yongpeng Ren,Yaru Li

In recent years, there has been significant interest in transition-metal sulfides (TMSs) due to their economic affordability and excellent catalytic activity. Nevertheless, it is difficult for TMSs to achieve satisfactory performance due to problems such as low conductivity, limited catalytic activity, and inadequate stability. Therefore, a catalyst with a heterostructure constituted of a nickel–iron-layered double hydroxide, nickel sulfide, molybdenum disulfide, and cerium dioxide was designed. At the current density of 10 mA cm−2in an alkaline solution, the catalyst exhibits a HER overpotential of 116 mV. In addition, an overpotential of 235 mV@150 mA cm−2was displayed for OER. The catalyst showed a good retention rate (94.7% for HER, 98.6% for OER) after 160 h stability tests. The excellent electrochemical performance is attributed to the following points: 1. The self-supporting three-dimensional hierarchical structure provides abundant sites, fast ion diffusion channels, and electron transfer paths, and ensures structural stability. 2. The strong interfacial electron interaction between Ni3S2/MoS2heterojunction and NiFe-LDH improves the OER reaction kinetics. 3. The Ce3+and oxygen vacancies in CeO2promote the dissociation of H2O and promote the HER reaction kinetics. This approach paves the way for developing highly efficient electrocatalysts for various electrochemical applications.

MoS2-Decorated Tubular Carbon Nanostructures with Enhanced Dielectric Loss for Boosting Microwave Absorption

Rui Xue,Rong Qiang,Yulong Shao,Xiao Yang,Qian Ma,Yi Chen,Fangjie Ren,Yuancheng Ding,Bowen Chen,Shijiang Feng

The construction of hierarchical structures has been demonstrated to be an effective method for achieving high-performance microwave absorption. In this study, a flower-like MoS2 nanosheet-coated tubular carbon composite with an average diameter of approximately 560 nm was synthesized via a straightforward ion-exchange and pyrolysis strategy. The growth of MoS2 nanosheets, the presence of heterojunction surfaces, and the construction of the hollow structure collectively enhance the dielectric loss of the material, thereby optimizing the microwave absorption properties of the material. The C@MoS2 nanocomposite demonstrates a minimum reflection loss of −66.8 dB and an effective absorption bandwidth of 4.8 GHz when the thickness is only 1.6 mm. This work presents a synergistic strategy for the design of layered hollow structures.

MoS2–Au@Pt nanohybrids as a sensing platform for electrochemical nonenzymatic glucose detection

Shao Su,Zaiwei Lu,Jing Li,Qing Hao,Wei Liu,Changfeng Zhu,Xizhong Shen,Jiye Shi,Lianhui Wang

Herein, a nonenzymatic electrochemical biosensor for glucose detection was developed based on an Au@Pt core–shell nanoparticle-decorated MoS2 (MoS2–Au@Pt) nanohybrid. Such designed MoS2-based nanohybrid possessed the advantages of MoS2 nanosheets with a large surface area and noble bimetallic nanoparticles with high catalytic ability, making the MoS2–Au@Pt nanocomposite modified electrode exhibit excellent electrocatalytic activity toward the oxidation of glucose due to their synergistic effect. As expected, the MoS2-based electrochemical biosensor showed a wide linear response over glucose concentration ranging from 10 μM to 3 mM with a low detection limit of 1.08 μM (S/N = 3). Furthermore, the as-prepared electrochemical biosensor also showed excellent selectivity and stability, which could be employed to determine glucose in real samples with acceptable results. The MoS2-Au@Pt nanohybrid could be a promising candidate material for the construction of a high performance sensing platform for chemical/biological molecule detection.

One-step synthesis of Ag2S/Ag@MoS2 nanocomposites for SERS and photocatalytic applications

Wu Jie,Zhou Yifeng,Nie Wangyan,Chen Pengpeng

This paper reported a one-step synthesis of Ag 2 S/Ag@MoS 2 nanocomposites and its applications in the surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) detection and photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants. The nanocomposites were well characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), cyclic voltammograms (CV), the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET), and Fourier transforms infrared spectra (FTIR). The AgNPs were uniformly dispersed on the MoS 2 nanosheets and the particle size of the AgNPs was about 10–30 nm. These Ag 2 S/Ag@MoS 2 nanocomposites offered sensitive SERS signals for the detection of R6G with the limit of detections as low as 10 −10  M. The photocatalytic activity of the composite catalyst was studied by the degradation of methylene blue (MB) dye under light illumination. The apparent rate constant of MB degradation for the obtained catalyst could reach 6.6 × 10 −2  min −1 , indicating that the novel Ag 2 S/Ag@MoS 2 nanocomposites can be explored for organic pollutant’s detection and degradation. Cu-Intercalated MoS2 Nanosheets with Enhanced Antibacterial Activity for Treatment of Bacterial Keratitis

Huihui Chen,Xiao Hu,Bingying Hou,Liying Qin,Eve-Graciella M.E.K. Kuete,Levinus Hendrik Koole

Bacterial keratitis (BK) is a critical and sight-threatening corneal infection that significantly impairs the quality of life. Due to the widespread antibiotic-resistant microbes and the slow development in antibiotics, there is an increasingly growing demand to create new antimicrobial agents for the treatment of BK. Herein, copper-intercalated molybdenum disulfide (Cu-MoS 2 ) nanosheets are constructed by intercalating Cu into the interlayer structure of MoS 2 via intercalation chemistry, which not only introduces the Fenton reaction but also modulates the electronic structure of MoS 2 . Cu-MoS 2 can convert H 2 O 2 into more toxic reactive oxygen species (ROS), thereby exhibiting excellent bactericidal performance against Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) , methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Escherichia coli (E. coli) at room temperature in the dark. Animal experiments indicated that Cu-MoS 2 can effectively treat BK caused by MRSA. This work demonstrates that intercalation chemistry as a novel and effective strategy to tune MoS 2 as the antibacterial agent with no reliance on light that has great potential therapeutic effects on clinical drug-resistant BK.

Cobalt Nanodisks Anchored on Sulfur-Vacancy-Containing MoS2 for the Hydrogen Evolution Reaction

Chaoqun Gu,Yu Yan,Tong Sun,Zhenyu Wang,Sisi Jiang,Wei Zhou,Zonghua Wang

Developing highly active and stable non-noble metal electrocatalysts is an imperious demand to achieve practical H2 production via electrocatalytic water splitting. Herein, cobalt nanodisks (Co Nds) were synthesized on the basal plane of sulfur-vacancy-containing molybdenum disulfide (MoS2–x), resulting in optimized active sites and improved conductivity of MoS2–x without covering the original active sites, the sulfur vacancies, due to the unique nanodisk structure. In addition, the synergistic interaction between the Co Nds and sulfur vacancies further enhanced the catalytic performance of MoS2–x. As a result, the Co Nds/MoS2–x composite demonstrated outstanding electrocatalytic performance for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in both acidic and alkaline solutions, exhibiting low overpotentials (179 mV in 0.5 M H2SO4 and 151 mV in 1.0 M KOH), relatively small Tafel slopes (62.5 mV dec–1 in 0.5 M H2SO4 and 99.8 mV dec–1 in 1.0 M KOH), and superior HER durability at the optimal Co/Mo molar ratio of 0.46. This work provides an innovative design strategy by introducing a sheeted non-noble metallic nanostructure to develop durable high-efficiency pH-universal transition metal dichalcogenide-based HER electrocatalysts.

Electrospun MoS2-CNTs-PVA/PVA Hybrid Separator for High-Performance Li/FeS2 Batteries

Sheng Wu,Qian Liu,Wei Zhang,Ruizhe Wu,Hongping Tang,Yulin Ma,Wenqiang Xu,Shufang Jiang

As a promising candidate for high-energy-density rechargeable lithium metal batteries, Li/FeS2batteries still suffer from the large volume change and severe shuttle effect of lithium polysulfides during cycling. To improve the electrochemical performance, great efforts have been made to modify FeS2cathodes by constructing various nanocomposites. However, energy density is sacrificed, and these materials are not applicable at a large scale. Herein, we report that the electrochemical performance of commercial FeS2can be greatly enhanced with the application of a double-layer MoS2-CNTs-PVA (MCP)/PVA separator fabricated by electrospinning. The assembled Li/FeS2batteries can still deliver a high discharge capacity of 400 mAh/g after 200 cycles at a current density of 0.5 C. The improved cycling stability can be attributed to the strong affinity towards lithium polysulfides (LiPSs) of the hydroxyl-rich PVA matrix and the unique double-layer structure, in which the bottom layer acts as an electrical insulation layer and the top layer coupled with MoS2/CNTs provides catalytic sites for LiPS conversion.

Activating efficient HMF electro-oxidation activity of biochar-loaded MoS2 by Co-modified

Yongzhi Xiong,Wei Zhao,Changzhou Chen,Mengyuan Qiu,Yingrui Dong,Yajun Liu,Jianchun Jiang,Mengmeng Fan,Kui Wang

In this study, a novel Co-modified MoS 2 loaded spherical biochar (Co-MoS 2 @BC) derived from renewable biomass was synthesized as an efficient anodic HMFOR electrocatalyst. In the HMFOR process, the Co-MoS 2 @BC required a potential of only 1.426 V for the current density of 100 mA/cm 2 , significantly outperforming that of the MoS 2 loaded on spherical biochar (MoS 2 @BC) and the Co nanoparticles loaded on spherical biochar (Co@BC). Furthermore, the HMF conversion ratio reached 99.6 %, FDCA selectivity was 99.7 %, and Faradaic efficiency was 99.3 %. The Mechanistic studies reveal that the modified-Co on the MoS 2 modulated the electronic structure of Co-MoS 2 @BC, which not only enhanced the interaction between Co-MoS 2 @BC and the electrolyte, thereby facilitating the evolution of the catalysts toward highly active species, but also improved the adsorption of HMF and the H + transfer e - coupling step during the HMFOR process.
