Nerve conduit is an alternative strategy in peripheral nerve injuries (PNI) treatment both for neural signals recording and therapeutic electrical stimulation (ES). Most conventional conduits suffer from surgical suturing and lacking real-time insights of nerve recovery, as well as failing in integrating therapy strategies. Herein, we introduce a bi-layered hydrogel conduit with microneedles (BHCM), in which poly (N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAm)-incorporated polyethyleneimine (PEI) forms the outer layer for conductivity and electro-driven drug loading and release, whereas PNIPAm/alginate/tannic acid hydrogel (PNIPAm/SA/TA) forms the inner layer to ensure biocompatible mechanics and strong tissue adhesion. Meanwhile, the differences in doping manipulated different critical solution temperature (LCST) and swelling between the double layers determine the self-curling performance. Therefore, the BHCM responds to temperature and self-curls into conduit to wrap and bind to sciatic nerve, avoiding the complicated suturing and enhancing the interfacial electrical transmission. By puncturing the epineurium, the microneedles strongly enhance the electrochemical performance, and synergistically facilitate controllable drug delivery as well as electrical stimulation and recording efficiency. Further, BHCM is demonstrated to regulate macrophage polarization from M1 to M2 through electrically stimulated Rhein release, thereby reducing inflammation and facilitating diabetic PNI repair. The present design aims to improve biosafety, surgical simplicity to realize overall recovery of injured nerves, making it a promising candidate for advanced peripheral nerve repair strategies.

Ferroptosis can serve as a potent strategy for regulating cell death via lipid peroxidation and the imbalance of the antioxidant system resulting from iron accumulation in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) therapy. However, the ferroptosis accompanied with down-regulation of glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) lead to CD36-mediated tumor-infiltrating CD8 + T cells uptaking fatty acids, resulting in the negative action on immunotherapeutic efficacy. Herein, the albumin nanoparticles, abbreviated as LHS NPs, were designed by co-assembly of hemin, linoleic acid-cystamine, and a CD36 inhibitor sulfosuccinimide oleate, to bi-directionally manipulated ferroptosis in tumor and CD8 + T cells for TNBC therapy. LHS NPs exerted more efficient reactive oxygen species generation, glutathione depletion and malondialdehyde production by the combinatory strategy of classical and non-classical ferroptosis modes, which amplified the positive action on ferroptosis in tumor cells. Meanwhile, LHS manipulated the negative action of ferroptosis by inhibiting the CD36 mediated-lipid peroxidation in CD8 + T cells, thereby activating the immunotherapeutic efficacy with the improvements on induction of immunogenic cell death, proliferation of CD4 + CD8 + T cells and natural killer cells, alleviation immunosuppressive regulatory T cells and myeloid-derived suppressor cells, and repolarization of the M2- to M1-phenotype tumor-associated macrophages. Thus, LHS NPs demonstrated an improved antitumor efficacy in suppressing the tumor growth and lung metastasis of 4T1-tumor mice. Our work gives novel insights for the bi-directionally manipulating ferroptosis in tumor and CD8 + T cells on TNBC chemoimmunotherapy.

Luminescent solar concentrators (LSCs) serving as potential energy-conversion units have received great attention in building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPVs). However, the main challenge for BIPV-used LSCs is to maintain a high transparency while improving its photo-electric performance. In this work, we fabricate a flexible LSC by incorporating Bi-doped Cs2Na0.6Ag0.4InCl6 double perovskite (DP) QDs into polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS). The as-synthesized QDs show a large Stokes shift and broadband orange emission originating from the recombination between the localized states of [BiCl6] and [AgCl6] octahedra. The resultant LSC based on the above QDs exhibits a high internal quantum efficiency of up to 34.42%, which is relatively higher than that of other reported QD-based LSCs. More attractively, the average visible transmittance of the LSC remains 91.55%. By attaching a Si PV cell along the edge of the LSC, the optimal power conversion efficiency (PCE) and optical efficiency (ηopt) of the LSCs of 2.56% and 2.57%, respectively, can be reached under the irradiation of a solar simulator. In addition, the LSC presents good photostability after 80 h of xenon lamp irradiation. Therefore, we anticipate that the lead-free DP QD-based LSCs may provide a promising direction for high-efficiency transparent LSCs.

With the growing concern about energy consumption, white light-emitting diodes( w LEDs), as the fourth generation of lighting sources, are highly scrutinized by researchers. A series of Bi 3+ /Tb 3+ /Sm 3+ (co)doped BaY 2 Si 3 O 10 phosphors were prepared by traditional solid-state method, and the phase purity was analyzed by X-ray diffraction. In this work, Bi 3+ /Tb 3+ /Sm 3+ theoretically occupies the Ba/Y sites, and this conjecture is also proved by spectral analysis. Under near ultraviolet ( n UV) light excitation, Bi 3+ /Tb 3+ /Sm 3+ is respectively used as the blue ( 3 P 1 → 1 S 0 )/green ( 5 D 4 → 7 F j )/red ( 4 G 5/2 → 6 H j ) luminescence center. Due to the energy transfer (ET) efficiency between Bi 3+ /Sm 3+ is not ideal, Tb 3+ is introduced as a bridge to improve the ET efficiency of the whole system to achieve spectral tunability and application in w LEDs. And at different excitation wavelengths, Bi 3+ emits a wide range of blue to cyan light because it occupies two cation sites. We selected a proper excitation wavelength and obtained an emission spectrum covering the whole visible region. The CIE color coordinates (0.3487, 0.3313), the correlated color temperature (CCT, 4773.61 K), quantum efficiency (QE, 47.62 %), and thermal stability ( T 50 = 537 K) of BaY 2 Si 3 O 10 : Bi 3+ /Tb 3+ /Sm 3+ are discussed in depth, Lu 3+ was used instead of Y 3+ to improve the thermal stability of BYS. Its excellent luminescence performance indicates that this phosphor has potential applications in n UV w LEDs.

By leveraging second-harmonic generation (SHG) capabilities, ultraviolet (UV) nonlinear optical (NLO) crystals can efficiently produce UV coherent light and are essential components for advancing UV solid-state laser systems. Herein, two new bismuth phosphates, Rb1.32Bi3.56P2O11 (I) and K1.08Bi3.64P2O11 (II), were synthesized via a high-temperature melt method. Of them, Rb1.32Bi3.56P2O11 exhibits a significant phase-matching SHG response (2.8 × KDP) and large birefringence (0.062 @ 532 nm, 0.053@1064 nm), along with an expanded UV transmission window. Moreover, theoretical analyses revealed that the optimized optical polarizability of Rb1.32Bi3.56P2O11 primarily arises from the cooperative effects of the one-dimensional (1D) polycationic Bi(2)Bi(2)×Bi(1)Bi(1)×Bi(1)Bi(1)×Bi(2)Bi(2) ribbons and [PO4] tetrahedron. We believe the work will provide a valuable strategy to design UV NLO materials with good performances.

One-dimensional (1D) Pd-based nanowire materials, characterized by high aspect ratios and exposed high-index crystal surfaces, are widely developed in the field of direct fuel cells. However, their synthesis methods are often not universal and necessitate demanding conditions, including high temperatures and metal templates, leading to resource consumption. In this study, we present a simple and universal one-step method for synthesizing PdM (Sb, Ir, and Bi) nanowire networks (NNWs) at room temperature. Leveraging their structural advantages and the synergistic effects between bimetals, PdM NNWs demonstrate exceptional electrocatalytic performance, exhibiting higher mass and specific activities as well as enhanced durability compared to Pd/C for the ethylene glycol and glycerol oxidation reactions. Notably, PdSb NNWs excelled in electrochemical tests, achieving the highest mass activities of 7.55 and 5.59 A mg −1 for the ethylene glycol oxidation reaction (EGOR) and glycerol oxidation reaction (GOR), respectively. Additionally, due to the semi-metallic properties of Sb, which can flexibly modify the chemical environment of Pd, the PdSb NNWs exhibited superior antitoxicity and a significantly lower decay of current density across three consecutive chronoamperometry (CA) tests. This research advances the synthesis of palladium-based nanostructures, providing impetus for the design of highly efficient electrocatalysts in the realm of direct alcohol fuel cells.

In this study, Zn–W–Bi–O catalysts with a sandwich structure were prepared by mixing zinc tungstate and bismuth nitrate to form bismuth tungstate at the interface. The catalyst was composed of bismuth nitrate as the upper layer, zinc tungstate as the lower layer, and phase interface (bismuth tungstate) as the core. The generation of phase interfaces provides a new reaction mechanism for catalytic processes. Based on the different intermediate state changes in the reaction process, the Zn–W–Bi–O catalysis system can be divided into H-S Mechanism, B-R Mechanism, and P-G Mechanism. These reaction mechanisms will simultaneously react with H 2 O 2 to generate various transition states, which will cooperatively oxidize sulfur atoms to remove them. The structural characteristics and stability of Zn–W–Bi–O catalysts were determined. There are strong stability and catalytic efficiency for Zn–W–Bi–O catalysts. The desulfurization rate can be close to 100% under optimal conditions (Catalyst of 0.02 g, ionic liquids of 0.5 mL, H 2 O 2 of 0.2 mL, model oil of 5 mL, 80 °C). Zn-W-Bi-O-2 catalysts lead to 3 times improvement in ODS activity for the upper layer and 1.25 times improvement in ODS activity for the lower layer. The catalytic reaction mechanism was obtained by the structure-activity relationship.

Photocatalytic synthesis of carbonyl compounds (aldehydes or ketones) offers great potential for sustained development in the production of pharmaceuticals and fine chemicals. Nevertheless, exploring photocatalysts with high stability, activity, and selectivity remains a significant challenge. In this study, Cs 3 Bi 2 Br 9 (CBB) perovskite nanocrystals have been successfully fabricated by confining the in-situ growth of perovskite CBB within mesoporous molecular sieve SBA-3. The obtained nanocrystals (2–4 nm) possess the advantages of excellent stability, exceptional dispersibility, abundant active sites, and enhanced charge carrier separation capability. Under visible light irradiation and air atmosphere, the CBB@SBA-3 could effectively oxidize benzyl alcohol to benzaldehyde with a total yield of 98.9 μmol, which is 22 times superior to that of bulk CBB, accompanied by a remarkable 99 % selectivity. Comparative experiments and in situ characterizations reveal the roles of electron ( e − ), hole ( h + ), and superoxide radical (·O 2 − ), while successfully capturing the carbon intermediates (·C) during the reaction process, further providing a comprehensive elucidation of the mechanism underlying the conversion of benzyl alcohol to benzaldehyde. This work is expected to provide insights into extending the design and photocatalytic application of Bi-based halide perovskite nanocrystals.

A long-standing puzzle for methanol electrooxidation is the fundamental understanding of the origin of electrocatalytic selectivity. Herein, we unequivocally demonstrate that the Bi-modified Pt/C follows a CO-free dominated pathway during alkaline methanol electrooxidation and unveil the formaldehyde (HCHO) intermediate as a critical factor influencing pathway selectivity. These findings are substantiated by kinetic isotope effects, formate Faradaic efficiency, in situ spectroscopy, ab initio molecular dynamics simulations, and density functional theory calculations. Bi modification significantly increases the HCHO dehydrogenation barrier, which facilitates its desorption and subsequent conversion to the H2COOH– anion at the alkaline interface, intrinsically avoiding CO formation. More specifically, the formation of ensemble sites featuring a V-shaped Bi–Pt–Bi configuration inhibits the cleavage of the C–H bond, and the weak OH binding energy at Bi adatoms effectively prevents blockage of oxygenated species, allowing such ensemble sites to fulfill their functional role. This work provides in-depth insights into the origins of pathway selectivity and benefits the theory-guided design of advanced CO-free electrocatalysts.

Potassium-ion batteries have emerged not only as low-cost alternatives to lithium-ion batteries, but also as high-voltage energy storage systems. However, their development is still encumbered by the scarcity of high-performance electrode materials that can endure successive potassium-ion uptake. Herein, a hydrated Bi-Ti bimetallic ethylene glycol (H-Bi-Ti-EG) compound is reported as a new high-capacity and stable anode material for potassium storage. H-Bi-Ti-EG possesses a long-range disordered layered framework, which helps to facilitate electrolyte ingress into the entire Bi nanoparticles. A suite of spectroscopic analyses reveals the in situ formation Bi nanoparticles within the organic polymer matrix, which can alleviate stresses caused by the huge volume expansion/contraction during deep cycles, thereby maintaining the superior structural integrity of H-Bi-Ti-EG organic anode. As expected, H-Bi-Ti-EG anode exhibits a high capacity and superior long-term cycling stability. Importantly for potassium storage, it can be cycled at current densities of 0.1, 0.5, 1, and 2 Ag −1 for 800, 700, 1000, and even 6000 cycles, retaining charging capacities of 361, 206, 185, and 85.8 mAh g −1 , respectively. The scalable synthetic method along with the outstanding electrochemical performance of hydrated Bi-Ti-EG, which is superior to other reported Bi-based anode materials, places it as a promising anode material for high-performance potassium storage.

BiVO 4 -based materials have attracted extensive research as advanced photoanode for photogenerated cathodic protection. However, the performance of BiVO 4 -based photoanodes is greatly hindered by its weak charge migration and positive conduction band potential. Herein, poly-2,6-diaminoanthraquinone (PDAAQ)/Bi was grafted on BiVO 4 to improve the separation efficiency of photogenerated carriers and enhance the reducing ability of photogenerated electrons. Studies show that a type II heterojunction can be formed between PDAAQ and BiVO 4 , which accelerates the separation of photogenerated carriers at the interface. In addition, the Bi monomers anchored on BiVO 4 /PDAAQ then expand the light absorption range through the surface plasmon resonance effect. Consequently, the obtained BiVO 4 /PDAAQ/Bi photoanode exhibits a promising photocurrent density of 40 μA·cm -2 , while the photoinduced potential drop is 540 mV, which is approximately 1.4 times of BiVO 4 materials. These outcomes provide general ideas for the design of organic-inorganic heterozygous systems for achieving eco-friendly corrosion protection.

Magnetic absorbers with high permeability have significant advantages in low-frequency and broadband electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption. However, the insufficient magnetic loss and inherent high conductivity of existing magnetic absorbers limit the further expansion of EMW absorption bandwidth. Herein, the spinel (FeCoNiCrCu) 3 O 4 high-entropy oxides (HEO) are successfully constructed on the surface of FeCoNiCr 0.4 Cu 0.2 high-entropy alloys (HEA) through low-temperature oxygen bath treatment. On the one hand, HEO and HEA have different magnetocrystalline anisotropies, which is conducive to achieving continuous natural resonance to improve magnetic loss. On the other hand, HEO with low conductivity can serve as an impedance matching layer, achieving magneto-electric co-modulation. When the thickness is 5 mm, the minimum reflection loss (RL) value and absorption bandwidth (RL < − 5 dB) of bi-phase high-entropy composites (BPHEC) can reach − 12.8 dB and 633 MHz, respectively. The RCS reduction value of multilayer sample with impedance gradient characteristic can reach 18.34 dB m 2 . In addition, the BPHEC also exhibits temperature-stable EMW absorption performance, high Curie temperature, and oxidation resistance. The absorption bandwidth maintains between 593 and 691 MHz from − 50 to 150 °C. This work offers a new and tunable strategy toward modulating the electromagnetic genes for temperature-stable ultra-broadband megahertz EMW absorption.
