Liquid–liquid phase equilibrium data for ternary systems containing formamide (or ethylene glycol (EG), monoethanolamine (MEA) + indole + 2-methylnaphthalene (2-MN) at 308.15 K under atmospheric pressure were measured in this work. The results show that all the three ternary systems are Treyball type 1 systems. The experimental data were correlated well using both the non-random two liquid (NRTL) model and universal quasi-chemical activity coefficient (UNIQUAC) model. In addition, both the distribution coefficient and selectivity coefficient of formamide, EG and MEA were calculated to investigate the feasibility of extracting indole from 2-MN and formamide presented a better selectivity.

A series of Sr (1 − x − y − z ) MoO 4 : x Eu 3+ , y Bi 3+ , z R + (R + = Li + , Na + , and K + ) phosphors are prepared through solid-state reaction method in air. Eu 3+ doped SrMoO 4 phosphor can show red emission at ∼616 nm under excitation 275 nm and 397 nm light due to the 5 D 0 → 7 F 2 transition of Eu 3+ ion, and its emission intensity can be enhanced after co-doping Bi 3+ owing to energy transfer between Bi 3+ and Eu 3+ ions. The mechanism of energy transfer is discussed by the schematic energy level diagrams of Bi 3+ and Eu 3+ ions. The optimal composition in Eu 3+ and Bi 3+ co-doped SrMoO 4 phosphors is determined to be (Sr 0.92 Eu 0.05 Bi 0.03 )MoO 4 . The emission intensity of SrMoO 4 :Eu 3+ , Bi 3+ phosphor is found to be further improved by using Li + , Na + , and K + ions as charge compensators. These experiment results in the paper are helpful to develop novel and high-efficiency phosphors for white light-emitting diodes.

The solubilities and refractive indices of the NaBr–CaBr2–H2O system at 288.15 K were determined using the isothermal equilibrium solution method. The phase diagram and refractive index diagram were drawn for this system at 288.15 K. The system belongs to the hydrate II type. The phase diagram is comprised of two invariant solubility points, three univariant solubility curves, and three areas of crystallization: NaBr·2H2O, NaBr and CaBr2·6H2O. Using the temperature-dependent formulas from the literature, the Pitzer parameters and the solubility product constants (ln Ksp) of NaBr·2H2O and NaBr were determined. Applying the Pitzer and Harvie–Weare (HW) model, the solubility product constant of CaBr2·6H2O was fit with the solubilities in this research work, and then, the mean activity coefficients of sodium bromide and calcium bromide and the solubilities for the ternary system at 288.15 K were demonstrated. Comparisons between the calculated and measured solubilities show that the predicted data have good accordance with the experimental results.

Photocatalysis-self-Fenton system, integrating photocatalysis with Fenton technology, emerge as promising approaches for environmental remediation. In this study, we introduced K, Na doped g-C 3 N 4 /FeOCl (DCN/FeOCl) catalyst, where amino groups on the DCN surface interacted with unsaturated Fe on FeOCl, forming Fe–N bonds and a Z-scheme heterojunction . The resulting DCN/FeOCl demonstrated efficient H 2 O 2 production and rapid tetracycline (TC) degradation under visible light. The Z-scheme heterojunction and nitrogen vacancy enhanced electron-hole pair separation and O 2 adsorption. Additionally, we proposed a mechanism for dual-channel photocatalytic H 2 O 2 production. This work presents a novel strategy for in-situ H 2 O 2 production and activation, facilitating water decontamination .

In this study, we developed an in-situ deposition method to load small-sized AgI nanoparticles as an oxidative photocatalyst (OP) onto phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) co-doped two-dimensional porous g-C 3 N 4 (PK-CN-N) as a reductive photocatalyst (RP), forming an S-scheme heterojunction photocatalyst AgI/PK-CN-N. PK-CN-N achieved morphology control and element doping, leading to surface functionalization and heterostructure formation for the AgI/PK-CN-N photocatalyst. Notably, the 50AgI/PK-CN-N composite demonstrated an approximately 95 % removal efficiency for RhB within 30 minutes, 17.6 times higher than pure g-C 3 N 4 , surpassing most reported g-C 3 N 4 -based photocatalysts. The enhanced photocatalytic efficiency is attributed to the surface modification strategy and heterostructure formation of g-C 3 N 4 , which broadens the visible light response range, increases the number of active sites, improves the separation of photogenerated electron-hole pairs, and enhances REDOX capabilities. The band structure of the composite was elucidated through Mott-Schottky analysis and UV–vis DRS. The formation of the AgI/PK-CN-N S-scheme heterojunction and its charge transfer mechanism was confirmed through XPS, band structure analysis, KPFM, and EPR spectroscopy. Experimental data confirmed the presence of a strong and effective interface electric field between the two semiconductors, leading to band bending and accelerated charge separation. Additionally, the introduction of small-sized AgI semiconductors enhanced the exposure of the coupling interface, further improving catalytic performance. The reusability and lifespan of the catalyst were also analyzed, showing that after four cycles, the photocatalytic activity remained above 92 %.

Photocatalytic selective synthesis of lactic acid (LA) from biomass sugars with a single heterogeneous catalyst is promising but challenging due to the multiple reaction steps involved. Herein, a K-doped C-rich red polymerized carbon nitride (RPCN) photocatalyst with uniform K/C dual sites was constructed by a molten salt template method, which was highly efficient for cascade isomerization dehydration of glucose to LA with > 90% selectivity under visible light and gentle conditions. Control experiments and theoretical calculations expounded that the introduced K/C dual sites could improve the light capture ability and photogenerated charge separation efficiency, while the K species provided sufficient Lewis acid sites (adsorption sites) for the isomerization of glucose to fructose. Meanwhile, the introduced C sites that substitute N atoms could promote electrons to be captured by adsorbed oxygen for selective generation of superoxide radicals, which was highly efficient for the scission of the C3–C4 bond in fructose, exclusively furnishing LA. Importantly, the RPCN photocatalyst was also suitable for the photocatalytic upgrading of various biomass saccharides into LA with high yields of 81.3%–95.3% and could be recycled for five consecutive cycles. The tailored construction of dual sites by localization of space charge lightens an avenue for multi-step conversion of biomass with pronounced selectivity. Graphical abstract

In this investigation, pinocembrin and galangin were efficiently extracted from the male inflorescence ofPopulus albaL. ×berolinensisK. Koch through an enzymatic pretreatment–ultrasonic-assisted strategy (EP-UAS), and the feasibility of their pilot-scale application was validated. The optimal parameters (ethanol volume fraction, cellulase dosage, incubation temperature, incubation time, pH, liquid‒solid ratio, ultrasonic irradiation power during incubation, duty cycle, ultrasonic irradiation power and time during extraction) affecting pinocembrin and galangin yields were systematically explored. The Box–Behnken design (BBD) results provided optimal parameters for the EP-UAS process. Under the optimal conditions, the actual yields of pinocembrin and galangin were 2158.33 ± 0.13 μg/g and 1257.96 ± 0.06 μg/g, respectively. Stability, recovery and reproducibility were determined under the above optimized conditions to evaluate the proposed EP-UAS method. Moreover, laboratory-scale experimental results revealed that the conditions selected via single-factor and response surface experiments were also applicable to pilot-scale production, facilitating industrialization.

Although metallic potassium or graphite anode with low redox potentials are desirable for potassium-ion batteries (PIBs), the severe capacity decay caused by consecutive reduction reactions on the aggressively reactive anode surface is inevitable because of the scarcity of an effective passivation layer. Additionally, the development of PIBs faces potential safety hazards due to the usage of reactive anodes with flammable electrolytes. Herein, a fire-retardant localized high-concentration electrolyte (LHCE) is formulated by adding a low-polarity co-solvent of highly fluorinated ether into the concentrated potassium bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide/trimethyl phosphate. A unique electrolyte solvation environment with the enhanced anion-cation interaction in an LHCE facilitates a durable anion-derived solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) with self-accelerated interfacial kinetics and minimizes the SEI dissolution compared to the conventional carbonate-based electrolyte. Consequently, the unmodified Al substrate could sustain stable potassium metal cycling above 3400 h (over 800 cycles) with high reversibility (98%), and the graphite anode retains prolonged cyclic stability (over 300 cycles) with a high reversible capacity (257.6 mAh g −1 ) and capacity retention (92.6 % at 0.2 C). Meanwhile, Al corrosion at high voltage is significantly suppressed, and the electrochemical window is extended due to less free solvents in an LHCE, enabling good electrolyte compatibility with high-voltage cathodes. Coupling non-flammable solvents and the concept of LHCE could facilitate a better understanding of electrolyte chemistry and offer more opportunities to use K or graphite anode for all Al substrate-based PIBs highlighted with high performance and superb safety.

Transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) emerge as advanced anode materials of potassium-ion batteries (PIBs), owing to the impressive capacities, strong redox reversibility, and advantageous conversion reactions with relatively weak metal-sulfur bonds. However, TMDs face inherent drawbacks that contribute to suboptimal rate performance and limited cycling stability such as low electrical conductivity, sluggish reaction kinetics, and unsatisfactory structural stability. To overcome these challenges, ultrafine heterojunction (between CoS 2 and FeS 2 ) wrapped in two-dimensional transition metal carbides (MXene) and nitrogen-sulfur co-doped carbon network (MXene@CoS 2 /FeS 2 @NSC) is synthesized as anodes for PIBs. The built-in electric field generated by heterojunction and high specific surface area network of MXene and carbon both contribute to excellent electrochemical performance. Consequently, the synthesized MXene@CoS 2 /FeS 2 @NSC anode exhibits impressive reversible capacity (605/175 mA h g −1 at 0.05/10 A g −1 ) and outstanding cycling stability (304 mA h g −1 at 0.5 A g −1 after 2000 cycles). The assembled potassium ion capacitors (PICs) with MXene@CoS 2 /FeS 2 @NSC anode exhibit outstanding cycling performance, maintaining nearly 100 % coulombic efficiency and over 10,000 cycles with 96 % capacity retention at 10 A g −1 . This work introduces a versatile synthetic method for preparing bimetallic sulfide heterojunction, providing useful points for the further study of advanced electrode materials for PIBs.

The semiconductor industry’s rapid evolution necessitates ultra-high-purity N-methyl pyrrolidone (NMP) as an essential electronic-grade solvent. The development of an efficient coordination material to reduce trace metal ions, particularly Na and K metal ions, to below 1 ppb in NMP solution is a significant challenge. To address this, a novel coordination material, St-DVB-g-ACE, has been developed for the removal of Na and K metal ions from NMP. The material was synthesized by grafting 4′-aminobenzo-15-crown-5-ether onto a strong acid gel resin. The resulting St-DVB-g-ACE-3 exhibited excellent coordination performance for Na and K metal ions, with maximum Langmuir adsorption capacities reaching 20,000 μg/g and 33,333 μg/g, respectively. Of particular interest was the ability of St-DVB-g-ACE-3 to reduce all trace metal ions in industrial-grade NMP to below 1 ppb within a fixed bed column, achieving the stringent requirements for electronic-grade NMP at the G3 level. Additionally, the absorbent enhances the purity of NMP from 99.82 % to 99.84 %, indicating that the material is not dissolved and can exist stably in NMP. Its excellent recyclability and reproducibility make it highly practical for industrial use. Density functional theory (DFT) simulation, complemented by spectral analyses, revealed the interaction force and thermodynamic properties between Na and K metal ions and crown ether ring, and illustrated the interaction between anionic sulfonic group (−SO 3 − ) and metal ions. The prepared resin-grafted crown ether adsorbents are highly effective in the thorough removal of trace metal ions from NMP solution, offering a novel and effective method for the production of electronic-grade NMP.

The K + -induced pectin-based vitrimer hydrogel ink, with dynamic exchange properties, offers an innovative solution for single-channel extrusion-based 3D food printing. However, forming hydrogen-bonded cross-linked vitrimer traditionally requires over 150 mM of K + to overcome the electrostatic repulsion between enzyme-modified pectin (EMP) molecules, which raises health concerns due to the high K + content. This study developed a novel strategy to introduce Ca 2+ bridges to partially weaken the electrostatic repulsion, fabricating low-K + vitrimer gel inks. Using 67 mM K + and 0.9 mM Ca 2+ , a densely cross-linked gel (Ca-EMP-K 67 mM) was formed at 25 °C, exhibiting excellent mechanical performance (~140 g hardness). Meanwhile, the gel possessed excellent self-healing properties, with a relaxation time of 8.3 s at 80 °C, confirming its vitrimer status. Notably, the Ca-EMP-K 67 mM gel ink achieved a ~ 55 % reduction in K + doses while enabling an increase in shaping temperature from 4 °C to 25 °C, compared to the traditional EMP-K 150 mM gel ink. These advancements enabled a low-K + pectin ink for ambient 3D printing. The introduction of Ca 2+ not only reduces the K + concentration requirement but also increases the shaping temperature, broadening the gel ink's applications in the food industry.

The solubility of glutaric anhydride (GA) in ten single organic solvents containing methyl acetate, ethyl acetate, n -propyl acetate, butyl acetate, acetone, acetonitrile, dichloromethane, 1,2-dichloroethane, DMF, DMAC, was determined by static method. In the experimental temperature range (278.15 ∼ 313.15 K), the solubility of the measured GA in each solvent increased with the increase of temperature. Among the solvents selected, GA had the highest solubility in DMAC and the lowest solubility in butyl acetate. The solubility of GA in DMAC was about 2 ∼ 3 times higher than in butyl acetate. Solvent effects in different solvents were explained by the Hansen solubility parameter (HSP) and the physicochemical properties of the solvents (polarity, hydrogen bond donor-acceptor tendency, and cohesion energy density). The analysis of solvation effect showed that the changes of GA solubility were the results of the combined effect of multiple factors, among which the effect of solvent polarity was more significant. Based on density functional theory (DFT), the electrostatic potential energy surface and solute-solvent interaction of GA were analyzed at the molecular level. In addition, the solubility data were fitted using the van't Hoff, modified Apelblat, Yaws, λh and Wilson models. The fitting results showed that the Yaws model had the best correlation with the smallest ARD (3.74%) and RMSD (0.82%). The analysis results of the apparent thermodynamic properties indicated that GA dissolution was a spontaneous, endothermic, entropy-driven process.
