To investigate the synergies of graphene and BaTiO 3 on the morphology and dielectric behavior of poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF), γ-oxo-pyrenebutyric acid-modified graphene (GPA) and BaTiO 3 were incorporated into PVDF matrix by using solution-cast and hot-pressing method. π-π interaction between graphene (Gra) and γ-oxo-pyrenebutyric acid (PA), and the hydrogen bonding effect between hydroxy groups on BaTiO 3 and PVDF can improve the dispersity of Gra and BaTiO 3 in PVDF matrix. The addition of BaTiO 3 improved further the dielectric permittivity that originates from high dielectric BaTiO 3 , and remarkable interfacial polarization effect between PVDF and fillers, and the non-conducting organic groups of PA can support the low loss and conductivity in PVDF/GPA/BT composites that shows potential application as high dielectric material over a broad temperature range.

Poly(vinylidene fluoride)-graft-poly(sulfobetaine methacrylate) (PVDF-g-PSBMA) proton exchange membranes were synthesized via single-step grafting sulfobetaine methacrylate (SBMA) onto PVDF. Benzoyl peroxide (BPO) was the initiator, and the PVDF was initially modified by tetramethylammonium
hydroxide (TMAH) in the liquid phase. Microstructure morphologies and sulfur distributions in the membrane were characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy/energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDX), respectively. The PVDF formed C=C
double bonds following dehydrofluorination by TMAH. SBMA was grafted onto the modified PVDF backbones, forming a homogeneous sulfur distribution in the interior and exterior of the membrane. Proton conductivities and methanol permeabilities of PVDF-g-PSBMA membranes increased with the increasing
of the TMAH mass fraction in methanol. When the mass fraction was 20%, the proton conductivity of the membrane was 0.0892 S·cm-1 at 20 , and the methanol permeability was 4.04 × 10-7 cm2·s-1 at ambient temperature, respectively.
The membrane exhibited good thermal stability up to 270 , as verified by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). With this membrane, the peak power density of a direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) was 17.06 mW·cm-2.

Gel polymer electrolytes have the advantages of both a solid electrolyte and a liquid electrolyte. As a transitional product before which a solid electrolyte can be comprehensively used, gel polymer electrolytes are of great research value. They can reduce the risk of spontaneous combustion and explosion caused by leakage during the use of conventional liquid electrolytes. Poly(vinylidene-fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF–HFP), a material with excellent performance, has been widely utilized in the preparation of gel polymer electrolytes. Here, PVDF–HFP-based gel polymer membranes with polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) pores were prepared using a phase inversion method, and Octavinyl-polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (OVAPOSS) was doped to improve its temperature resistance as well as its ionic conductivity, to enhance its safety and electrochemical performance. The final prepared polymer membrane had a porosity of 85.06% and still had a certain mechanical strength at 160 °C without any shrinkage. The gel polymer electrolyte prepared with this polymer membrane had an ionic conductivity of 1.62 × 10−3S·cm−1at 30 °C, as well as an electrochemical window of about 5.5 V. The LiCoO2-Li button half-cell prepared therefrom had a specific capacity of 141 mAh·g−1at a rate of 1C. The coulombic efficiency remained above 99% within 100 cycles and the capacity retention rate reached 99.5%, which reveals an excellent cycling stability.

The separation and recovery of oil from oily wastewater was still challenging due to the limitations of conventional separation techniques in its limited application fields, high operation cost and low separation efficiency. Membrane separation was a novel candidate to satisfy various separation tasks. Seeking for an efficient and facile strategy to manipulate the membrane performance was urgently needed. Chinese ink was a promising material to functionalize the membrane by virtue of the self-adhesion and intrinsic hydrophilicity. Herein, a composite polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) microfiltration membrane was fabricated via a facile rub-coating strategy. The micro/nano structures derived from the nanoparticles in Chinese ink readily facilitated the membrane with the superhydrophilicity and underwater superoleophobicity (underwater various oils contact angle above 150°, underwater dichloromethane roll off angle ~ 3°). The composite membrane exhibited a high permeation flux, a considerable separation efficiency for separating various oil-in-water emulsions and a superior recyclability for separating gasoline-in-water emulsion in ten cycles. Moreover, the membrane maintained a desirable underwater dichloromethane contact angle (above 145°) after respectively being immersed in pH = 1 HCl, pH = 13 NaOH and 3.5 wt% NaCl solutions for one week, and a sandpaper abrasion test, demonstrating an excellent chemical stability and a robust mechanical durability.

With industry development, the reuse of water and oil resources has become an urgent problem. At present, the evolution of simple-minded approaches to attain modification on the membrane surface for a more complex circumstance, such as oily wastewater and dyes at the same time, has become a red-hot but challenging topic for research. Membrane separation technology has successfully built up to cope with these issues, such as oil-in-water emulsion separation and dye adsorption owning to its benign mechanical characteristics and low power consumption. Therefore, we report a simple-minded one-step approach for uses in oil-in-water emulsion separation and dye adsorption. In this work, a new multifunctional membrane surface is constructed via the concurrent incorporation of silk fibroin (SF) and dopamine hydrochloride (DA) in co-deposition to reach a large flux for complex wastewater separation. The qualified membrane has super hydrophilic in the air and has brilliant oil adhesion resistance underwater. It works comfortably on oil-in-water emulsions (over 10400 L m −2 h −1 bar −1 ) or dyes (above 3738.68 mg m −2 ). More importantly, excellent adsorption efficiency (>99%) and extensive adsorption capability (over 2071.91 mg m −2 ) were achieved by the oil-in-dye emulsion that stabilized with surfactant. It not only possesses a broad span of use outlooks but also enlightens imports for the evolution of functional coating in the future.

Self-powered flexible piezoelectric devices based on polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) face a critical trade-off between piezoelectric output and mechanical flexibility. In this study, an amine-terminated liquid butadiene rubber (ATPB) toughened PVDF/BaTiO 3 (BTO) flexible nanofiber membrane is fabricated via electrospinning to achieve an optimized balance between piezoelectric output and mechanical durability. The ATPB coating serves as a low-modulus elastomeric interphase on BTO nanoparticles, mitigating the modulus mismatch and suppressing interfacial stress concentration while maintaining high ductility, with elongation at break exceeding 33%. Through the combined effects of chemical hydrogen bonding from ATPB and heterogeneous nucleation of BTO, the relative content of polar β-phase reaches 62.4% (Lambert–Beer law) and 60.1% (multi-peak intensity ratio method), with a β-phase absolute crystallinity of 33.38%. The assembled piezoelectric nanogenerator (PENG) produces a stable open-circuit voltage of 10–15 V, representing an approximately 2–3 fold enhancement over pure PVDF devices. The short-circuit current reaches 7 μA, with a peak power density of ~4 μW cm −2 , and the device retains ~92.3% output after 5000 cycles. This research provides an effective strategy for developing flexible PVDF-based materials for energy harvesting and wearable sensors.

High-efficiency oil-water separation membranes based on low-mesh copper mesh offer advantages in cost-effectiveness, scalability, and adaptability to complex separation scenarios. However, their inherently large pore size usually results in insufficient separation precision. In this work, the Cu/PVDF/CeO 2 composite membrane is fabricated on the copper mesh substrate by combining the non-solvent induced phase separation method with spraying and immersion techniques. By adjusting the porogen content, the pore size of the composite membrane is effectively regulated, leading to enhanced separation efficiency. This strategy aims to simultaneously achieve superhydrophobicity and high-precision oil-water separation on low-mesh-number copper mesh substrates. The Cu/PVDF/CeO 2 composite membrane achieves a maximum water contact angle of 158.7°, exhibiting superhydrophobicity. In oil-water separation tests, the membrane demonstrates a separation efficiency exceeding 98.5% for all tested oil-water mixtures. Optimal performance is observed in the separation of the immiscible mixture of dichloromethane and water, where the membrane achieves a separation efficiency of 99.83% alongside a high separation flux of 79138.4 L m −2 ·h −1 . Additionally, the composite membrane exhibits excellent long-term stability and cycling stability. This study provides a feasible method for the preparation of high-efficiency oil-water separation composite membranes based on copper mesh substrates, with potential applications in industrial wastewater treatment and environmental remediation.

Developing a multifunctional composite membrane with efficient oil-water separation, antifouling, stability, bacterial filtration, and antibacterial functions is essential for treating oily and organic medical wastewater. In this study, a PVDF/TA/APTES/CMCS/Cu-BTC@TiO 2 membrane was fabricated using mussel-inspired surface chemistry and dip-coating. Hydrophilic tannic acid (TA) and carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCS) enhanced membrane hydrophilicity, while hydrolyzed γ-aminopropyl triethoxysilane (APTES) formed a thin SiO 2 network layer that improved the stability of the deposited coating. Photocatalytic TiO 2 and biocompatible Cu-BTC contributed to the membrane’s photothermal response, antibacterial activity, and bacterial filtration. The membrane exhibited superhydrophilicity (water contact angle 10.3°), underwater oleophobicity (oil contact angle 153.9°), high water flux (5963.33 L·m −2 ·h −1 ), and 98.85% separation efficiency. It also achieved 99.99% bacterial filtration efficiency, 99.9% photothermal antibacterial rate, 99.99% photocatalytic sterilization, and self-cleaning ability. This multifunctional membrane shows great promise for oil-water separation and medical wastewater treatment.

Textiles, owing to their excellent breathability, softness, and structural elasticity, hold great potential for applications in flexible sensors and intelligent wearable devices. Piezoelectric sensors have become a research hotspot in wearable technology due to their capability for long-term sensing and monitoring. In this work, coaxial electrospinning with dual nozzles (inner and outer) operating simultaneously was employed to fabricate nanofibers, where the synergistic effects of graphene oxide (GO) and barium titanate (BTO) doping were utilized to enhance the piezoelectric performance of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF). GO, known for its high electrical conductivity, contributed to improved sensitivity of the composite nanofiber membrane after incorporation. When the mass fraction of GO was 0.1 wt% and that of BTO was 5 wt%, the β -phase content in PVDF reached its maximum value of 84.72%. Under an applied force of 2.2 N, the output voltage of the PVDF/GO/BTO composite nanofiber membrane reached 14.35 V, demonstrating a further enhancement in piezoelectric performance compared with single-component conductive fillers. Moreover, under a test load range of 0–3 N, the piezoelectric film exhibited a high sensitivity of 4.122 V·N⁻ 1 , and durability testing over 500 cycles confirmed its excellent mechanical robustness. Finally, a flexible piezoelectric sensor was fabricated and applied to human motion monitoring, confirming its outstanding potential for wearable sensing applications.

Gel polymer electrolytes typically suffer from low ionic conductivity, limited oxidative stability, and thermal runaway. Nitrate additives can be beneficial, but they are limited by poor solubility. Herein, sandwich-structured ionic liquid gel electrolyte membranes were fabricated by incorporating a polyethylene (PE) interlayer between two poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF–HFP) layers loaded with LiTFSI and 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium nitrate ([EMIm]NO2). The PFENE3 membrane prepared with 22.9 wt % [EMIm]NO2 shows optimal overall performance. Specifically, the PE scaffold provides robust mechanical strength (36.7 MPa). The incorporation of [EMIm]NO2 induces multiple synergistic effects: (i) increasing ionic conductivity to 5.03 × 10–4 S cm–1 at 25 °C by suppressing PVDF–HFP crystallinity; (ii) achieving a high Li+ ion transference number (0.449) by confining other charge carriers within the TFSI-[EMIm]+-NO2 hydrogen-bonding network; and (iii) the sacrificial decomposition of NO2 to form robust protective interphases on both the anode and cathode. Consequently, Li/PFENE3/Li symmetric cells demonstrated stable cycling for over 600 h at 0.3 mA cm–2. Furthermore, the Li/PFENE3/NCM622 full cell delivered an initial capacity of 170.9 mAh g–1 at 0.1 C and 159.3 mAh g–1 at 0.5 C, with 78% retention after 100 cycles, significantly outperforming [EMIm]NO2-free systems. These findings provide a viable strategy for developing high-performance and safe Li-metal batteries.

Environmental pollution resulting from oil–water emulsions presents a serious threat to both human activities and ecosystems. Although the superwetting membranes are widely regarded as a promising solution for separating oil-in-water emulsions, membrane fouling remains a critical challenge that hinders their long-term practical application. In this study, a hydrophilic copolymer, PHEAA-co-PVP, was synthesized via the copolymerization of hydroxyethyl acrylamide (HEAA) and vinylpyrrolidone (VP). Hydrogen-bonding-induced layer-by-layer (LbL) self-assembly of dopamine (DA) and PHEAA-co-PVP was subsequently used as a biomimetic strategy to functionalize polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membranes. The results revealed that the incremental coating degree enhanced the pore-blocking effect, leading to a gradual reduction in the mean aperture size of the membranes. The introduced coating markedly enhances the surface hydrophilicity of the membrane, as evidenced by an initial water contact angle as low as 14.9°, while simultaneously conferring underwater superoleophobicity to the separation membrane. The flux of the modified membranes was found to initially increase and subsequently decrease with increasing coating degree, as shown by permeation experiments. Furthermore, the membranes showed exceptional separation capability for a range of oil-in-water emulsions, achieving over 98% oil rejection. Thanks to the robust hydration capability of the self-assembled coating, the membranes exhibited superior antifouling performance during cyclic filtration of oily emulsions, attaining a high flux recovery ratio of up to 96%. This study demonstrates a strategy for fabricating superwetting membranes through LbL self-assembly, enabling highly efficient oil–water emulsion separation.

Solid-state batteries (SSBs) present a potential pathway for advancing next-generation lithium batteries, characterized by exceptional energy density and enhanced safety performance. Solid-state electrolytes have been extensively researched, yet an affordable option with outstanding electrochemical performance is still lacking. In this work, Li 4-x Na x Ti 5 O 12 (LNTO)-based composite solid electrolytes (CSEs) were developed to enhance the interface stability and electronic insulation. The CSE is composed of Li 3.88 Na 0.12 Ti 5 O 12 (LNTO3) and poly (vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) with a proportion of 20 wt % exhibited high ionic conductivity (4.49×10 −4 S cm −1 at a temperature value equal to 35 °C), high ionic transfer number (equal to 0.72), low activation energy (equal to 0.192 eV), and favorable compatibility with the Li metal anode. The Li|LNTO3|LiFePO 4 cell, tested at a 0.5 C current density, demonstrated 154.5 mAh g −1 of outstanding cycling stability for 200 cycles, capacity retention of 97.6 % along with a Coulombic efficiency of over 99 %, as well as a significant average specific capacity of 127.8 mAh g −1 over 400 cycles at 5 C. The Li|LNTO3|LiNi 0.8 Co 0.1 Mn 0.1 O 2 (NCM811) cell could also operate over 100 cycles at 1 C. This study offers an effective method for preparing commercial CSEs for SSBs. Graphical A low-cost and stable solid-state electrolyte based on Sodium-doped Li 4-x Na x Ti 5 O 12 is prepared by the typical casting method. Due to its excellent interfacial stability with lithium metal anode, the lithium metal battery of Li||LFP at 0.5 current density shows excellent cycling stability (154.5 mAh g −1 for 200 cycles, 97.6 % capacity retention and over 99 %Coulombic efficiency).
