Co-O-Fe electronic modulation lowers OER overpotential to 169 mV at 10 mA cm −2 . • Rapid interfacial charge transfer yields a low Tafel slope of 106.4 mV dec − ¹ mV dec −1 . • Fe-to-Co electron transfer optimizes the D-band center for OER intermediates. • Heterointerface prevents MOF aggregation and exposes abundant active sites. Overcoming the sluggish kinetics of the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) remains a primary bottleneck in advancing sustainable hydrogen generation technologies. Herein, a dual-metal-organic-framework (dual-MOF) heterostructure, ZnCo-ZIF@MIL-100 (denoted as ZM-3), was constructed via a one-step hydrothermal method, where MIL-100 frameworks were epitaxially grown on orthododecahedral ZnCo-ZIF templates. This core-shell heterostructure inherits the structural merits of both MOF phases, achieving 10 mA cm − ² at an overpotential of 169 mV with a Tafel slope of 106.4 mV dec − ¹ in 1.0 M KOH. Comprehensive characterisation (XRD, SEM/TEM, XPS, etc.) and electrochemical analysis verify that heterostructure formation triggers notable electron redistribution from Fe to Co centres, optimises interfacial charge transfer and boosts accessible catalytic sites. DFT calculations further confirm that interfacial Co-O-Fe bridge sites tune the adsorption energetics of oxygenated intermediates, reducing the energy barrier of the potential-determining step. This work offers an interfacial regulation strategy for developing advanced MOF-based oxygen evolution electrocatalysts. ZM-3 exhibits a low overpotential, a small Tafel slope (106.4 mV dec −1 ) and long-term stability for OER. Download: Download high-res image (202KB) Download: Download full-size image

Direct co-conversion of earth-abundant N 2 and CH 4 to high-value C–N–O compounds is a promising synthetic method but remains challenging, as the activation of N 2 and CH 4 typically requires high-energy conditions that can cause product decomposition. Here we report a plasma-cascade process for synthesizing cyclohexanone cyanohydrin (Cy(OH)CN) via direct coupling of N 2 and CH 4 plasma with cyclohexanone. This catalyst-free process achieves a Cy(OH)CN formation rate of 0.60 mmol h −1 with a high selectivity of 95.8% towards the cyclohexanone-derived products under mild conditions, concurrently generating ammonia as a valuable coproduct. Comprehensive mechanistic studies reveal that plasma-generated ·CH x and hydrogen radicals enable direct α-carbonyl functionalization of cyclohexanone to α-CH x cyclohexanol intermediates, which then coupled mainly with excited-state N 2 and are further activated by hydrogen radicals to generate Cy(OH)CN. This plasma-cascade strategy decouples the activation of inert molecules from the formation of relatively unstable C–N–O compounds, enabling selective cyanohydrin synthesis that avoids using high-cost NH 3 and toxic HCN. The competitive adsorption and activation of H 2 and NH 3 molecules presents a fundamental challenge in catalytic reductive amination for sustainable amine synthesis. In this study, we address this issue by constructing a Ni/NbW 0.3 catalyst featuring a W-O-Nb composite oxide support designed to selectively enhance NH 3 adsorption and activation. Comprehensive characterization confirms that W doping creates a unique NbW x O (5/2+3x) structure with abundant W-O-Nb bridges, which generates strong Brønsted acid sites. These sites significantly enhance NH 3 protonation, thereby selectively promoting the rate-determining hydroammonolysis step by enhancing nucleophilic addition on the Schiff base intermediate. Hence, the Ni/NbW 0.3 catalyst delivers 99.9% yield of furfurylamine from the reductive amination of furfural, with a formation rate of 0.025 mol·g⁻ 1 ·h⁻ 1 under mild conditions (60 °C, 3 MPa H 2 , 0.4 MPa NH 3 ). Kinetic analyses reveal that the W-O-Nb structure substantially reduces both the activation energy (26.9 kJ·mol⁻ 1 ) and NH 3 reaction order (0.58), while poisoning experiments verify the essential role of Brønsted acid sites. The catalyst also demonstrates broad substrate adaptability and excellent recyclability. This work provides fundamental insights into the relationship between acid site engineering and reductive amination kinetics, establishing the W-O-Nb heterostructure design as an effective strategy for developing advanced amination catalysts.

Stabilizing the Cu δ+ (1 < δ < 2) valence state during CO 2 reduction reaction (CO 2 RR) process is essential to enhance the C-C coupling and further promote the conversion of CO 2 into value-added C 2+ products. Herein, we propose a new strategy to stabilize the Cu δ+ under the synergistic effect of 4f orbital and oxygen vacancies (O v ) through the construction of Ce doped CuO with enriched O v via symbiotic strategy (CuCeO-O v ). Theoretical calculations and experimental results show the derived gradient orbital coupling O v -[Ce 4f-O 2p-Cu 3d] unit with Ce 4f as electron buffer as well as O v as electron supply station can facilitate the electron itinerancy during CO 2 RR process, which is beneficial to reinforce the Cu-O covalency and inhibit peroxidation of Cu δ+ , thus endowing CuCeO-O v with a highly active (Faradaic efficiency of C 2 H 4 reaches 51% at −1.3 V vs. RHE) and stable bidirectional self-regulating capability (the current density and FE of C 2 H 4 show virtually no attenuation even after 13 h) simultaneously. This work not only gives a profound insight to the synergistic effect of dopants and O v in metal oxides but also provides new guidance to structural design of high-performance insert materials.

Tetracycline antibiotics are widely used, hard to degrade, and pose significant threats to ecosystems. While biochar adsorption presents both efficiency and cost benefits for tetracycline removal, the specific adsorption sites and underlying mechanism remain inadequately understood. This study investigates the synthesis of nitrogen/oxygen co-doped porous biochar (NSEC) by employing fifth-instar silkworm excrement (fed with formulated feed), melamine, and sodium bicarbonate as activator, through a high-temperature carbonization process. The experimental results revealed that NSEC exhibited a significantly increased specific surface area, higher nitrogen doping levels, and more surface defects, thereby boosting its tetracycline adsorption capacity. Notably, The NSEC900 sample managed to eliminate 87.6% of tetracycline from a 30 mg·L⁻¹ solution in just 2 min and retained about 98.5% after undergoing five adsorption/desorption cycles, showing outstanding stability. The thermodynamic analysis of adsorption aligns with the Freundlich model with multimolecular layer adsorption, the kinetics analysis conforms to the second-order model with an exothermic process. Pyridine nitrogen, pyrrole nitrogen, C O, and O C-OH groups as the primary adsorption sites are from the biochar surface. Furthermore, the adsorption mechanism is characterized by multimolecular layer chemisorption, mainly maintained by van der Waals interactions, hydrogen bonding, and pore filling, which collectively contribute to its high adsorption performance in actual aqueous environments. This study provides novel insights into the development of high-efficiency adsorbent materials and holds significant implications for the control of tetracycline pollution.

Chelating agents significantly enhanced SDZ degradation in UV/Fe 2+ /H₂O₂ system. • The CA-enhanced systems operate efficiently across pH 3–8. • OH was the dominant reactive species, O₂· − and 1 O₂ played minor roles in SDZ removal. • Degradation pathways produced intermediates with lower toxicity than SDZ. • The system showed broad-spectrum reactivity and stability in natural freshwater. Antibiotics, widely detected in aquatic environments, pose significant threats to ecosystems and human health due to their recalcitrance in conventional wastewater treatment processes. This study systematically investigated the enhancement effects and mechanisms of three chelating agents (CAs) including NTA, EDTA and EDDS on sulfadiazine (SDZ) degradation in the UV/Fe 2+ /H₂O₂ system. Results showed that CAs significantly improved SDZ removal efficiency by complexing iron ions, promoting Fe 2+ /Fe 3+ cycling thereby enhancing photo-induced Fenton reactions. The NTA/UV/Fe 2+ /H₂O₂ system exhibited the highest performance, achieving 90.5% SDZ removal within 20 min, followed by EDTA (90.1%) and EDDS (88.7%) and without CAs (<35%). The CAs/UV/Fe 2+ /H₂O₂ system maintained high efficiency over a broad pH range (3–8), overcoming the pH limitation of traditional UV-Fenton processes. Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and quenching experiments confirmed ·OH was the dominant reactive oxygen species and O₂· − and 1 O₂ also played minor roles. Degradation pathways of SDZ included ·OH oxidation, S N bond cleavage, and ring-opening reactions, producing intermediates with lower toxicity than SDZ. Meanwhile, the CAs/UV/Fe 2+ /H₂O₂ system could effectively remove various antibiotics (e.g., sulfamethoxazole, tetracycline) and maintain stability in the presence of inorganic anions and humic acid. Moreover, the CAs/UV/Fe 2+ /H₂O₂ system performed well in natural fresh water matrices, highlighting its practical application potential for antibiotic-contaminated water treatment. Metastasis is the leading cause of treatment failure and poor prognosis in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), underscoring the urgent need for effective therapeutic strategies. In this study, we show that O-GlcNAcylation catalyzed by O-GlcNAc transferase (OGT) increases NSD2 stability and thereby promotes TNBC metastasis. Mechanistically, OGT directly interacts with NSD2 and facilitates its O-GlcNAcylation, which impedes ubiquitin-mediated degradation and enhances NSD2 protein stability. OGT knockdown reduces NSD2 protein levels, downregulates extracellular matrix (ECM)-related signaling pathways, decreases collagen production and cell–matrix adhesion, and ultimately inhibits TNBC cell invasion and tumor metastasis. Importantly, disruption of the OGT–NSD2 axis markedly suppresses metastasis in TNBC xenograft models. Together, these findings reveal a novel mechanism by which OGT drives tumor metastasis through modulation of NSD2 O-GlcNAcylation, and identify the OGT–NSD2 axis as a potential therapeutic target for advanced TNBC.

A RE-doped Bi 4 Ti 3 O 12 perovskite-based luminescence material is developed. • Dual NIR-II emissions of Ho 3+ /Er 3+ are achieved under 980 nm excitation. • High performance (Sr=1.3% K-1) phonon-assisted ratiometric thermometer is constructed. High-performance optical thermometers operating in the second near-infrared (NIR-II) window hold great promise for biomedical applications due to their tissue penetration depth and minimal autofluorescence. However, developing reliable NIR-II thermometers with high sensitivity and robust performance across a wide temperature range remains a challenge. Herein, the luminescence properties and NIR-II ratiometric thermometric performance of Er 3+ , Ho 3+ , Yb 3+ co-doped Bi 4 Ti 3 O 12 (BTO) perovskite oxide were investigated. Upon 980 nm excitation, NIR-II emission from Er 3+ at 1560 nm ( 4 I 13/2 → 4 I 15/2 ) and Ho 3+ at 1200 nm ( 5 I 6 → 5 I 8 ) was achieved. A ratiometric thermometer was constructed using the temperature-dependent intensity ratio, I Er /I Ho . Relying on the thermal dependence of this ratio, the BTO system exhibits a relative sensitivity (S r ) of 1.3% at 333 K. Furthermore, the results suggest that phonon characteristics of the BTO host influence energy-transfer processes and NIR-II thermometric performance, highlighting importance of host properties in designing rare-earth-doped NIR-II thermometric materials. In this study, the microwave absorption of the high-entropy oxide nanocomposite (Mn0.2Co0.2Ni0.2Fe0.2Cu0.2)3O4@PPy with a content of 40 wt % mixed in paraffin wax achieved a minimum reflection loss (RL) value of −60.76 dB and an effective absorption bandwidth (RL < −10 dB) of 6.9 GHz at a corresponding thickness of 2.15 mm. This indicates that the nanocomposite’s microwave absorption rate can exceed 99%, featuring a wider absorption bandwidth and a smaller thickness, making it an excellent wave-absorbing material. The superior impedance matching, larger attenuation coefficient, and dielectric-magnetic loss coupling effect of the wave absorber, along with the presence of multiple polarization phenomena within the material, collectively enhance the wave absorption effect. By the CST electromagnetic simulation, it was found that the simulation fitting of ε and μ closely matches the experimental results. This demonstrates that the nanocomposites possess strong microwave-absorbing capabilities, making them viable as new and efficient absorber materials. In addition, we evaluated the corrosion protection properties of the material, and the results demonstrated that it possesses significant corrosion resistance. This study confirms that (Mn0.2Co0.2Ni0.2Fe0.2Cu0.2)3O4@PPy can serve as a multifunctional nanocomposite material effective for both wave absorption and corrosion resistance across various applications and fields.

To improve the lipophilicity and antioxidant potential of ferulic acid (FA), four novel 1- O -alkylglyceryl ferulates (C 8 Gly 1 F, C 12 Gly 1 F, C 16 Gly 1 F, and C 18:1 Gly 1 F) were synthesized via Novozym 435-catalyzed transesterification in n -hexane at 65 °C, achieving high conversion rates and good enzyme reusability. Crystallinity and thermal properties, analyzed by polarized light microscopy and DSC, revealed that C 12 Gly 1 F exhibited optimal crystallinity, while C 18:1 Gly 1 F, due to its unsaturated alkyl chain, was predominantly amorphous, suggesting enhanced solubility. Antioxidant assays (DPPH and ABTS) demonstrated higher radical scavenging activity compared to ethyl ferulate, with C 18:1 Gly 1 F showing the best performance. Density functional theory calculations revealed its high electron affinity, electrophilicity, and a delocalized HOMO–LUMO distribution, supporting its proposed antioxidant mechanism. These findings highlight the potential of 1- O -alkylglyceryl ferulates as effective lipophilic antioxidants for use in functional foods and lipid-based delivery systems.

The highly efficient transformation of CX2 (O, S) into valuable chemicals at atmospheric pressure is an attractive topic. A novel method of preparing quinazoline derivatives by capturing CX2 (O, S) in reusable, room-temperature, reversible ionic liquids (ReILs) with high yields (up to 98%) at 40 °C and atmospheric pressure was developed in this paper. The different reaction conditions were optimized and the products were easily separated from the ReILs which could be reused at least six times without considerable loss in yield. The plausible mechanism of capturing CX2 (O, S) in the ReILs was proposed and it provides a green, efficient protocol to capture CX2 (O, S) in ReILs to synthesize quinazoline derivatives.

Three bifunctional benzoxazines ( o AP-ddm, o C-ddm, and P-ddm) were synthesized from 4,4′-diaminodiphenyl methane, formaldehyde, and three phenols , namely o -allylphenol, o -cresol, and phenol. The polymerization temperatures and activation energies of o AP-ddm and o C-ddm are very similar and higher than those of P-ddm; however, their reaction enthalpies exhibit inverse behavior. The storage moduli of the corresponding polybenzoxazines, P o AP-ddm, P o C-ddm, and PP-ddm, are approximately 2.1, 3.2, and 2.9 GPa at 25 °C, respectively, and their glass transition temperatures are 139, 166, and 198 °C, respectively. The thermal stabilities of P o AP-ddm and P o C-ddm are similar and lower than that of PP-ddm. The results indicate that polybenzoxazines based on ortho -substituted phenols provide higher flexibility than their counterparts prepared from unsubstituted phenol.
