This study presents an efficient strategy for converting high-boiling solvent (HBS) pretreated cellulose into lactic acid (LA) over a Cr-Sn-Beta bimetallic catalyst synthesized by flash Joule heating (FJH). Ethylene glycol-based HBS pretreatment effectively enriched cellulose content in straw, while the FJH method enabled rapid and uniform metal incorporation. The resulting Cr-Sn-Beta catalyst exhibited a maximum LA yield of 33.54% with a carbon balance of 90.08%, showing high selectivity and catalytic efficiency. The synergistic function of Cr and Sn acid sites was also evaluated. This work provides a promising route for biomass valorization and catalyst design via combined pretreatment and advanced synthesis techniques.

This study employed a solvothermal method to prepare an NH 2 -MIL-101(Fe, Co) bimetallic organic framework composite catalyst aimed at enhancing the photocatalytic reduction performance of Cr(VI). The experimental results show that introducing Co into the single-metal NH 2 -MIL-101(Fe) does not alter the material's octahedral structure. However, the bimetallic synergistic effect shifts the light absorption range to the red end of the spectrum, reduces the bandgap, and significantly improves carrier separation efficiency. Under visible light irradiation, the NH 2 -MIL-101(Fe, 0.15Co) catalyst exhibited outstanding photocatalytic performance, achieving a reduction efficiency of 94.7% for Cr(VI) within 40 minutes and 100% within 50 minutes, with a reaction rate constant 4.7 times that of the single-metal NH 2 -MIL-101(Fe). Free radical capture experiments further revealed that ·O 2 - is the key active species in the Cr(VI) reduction process, while photo-generated holes in the valence band can oxidise OH - to ·OH, synergistically participating in the reaction. Additionally, cyclic stability experiments showed that the catalyst maintained 85.8% reduction efficiency after five cycles, demonstrating excellent stability and practical application potential.

The design and intentional construction of crystalline materials containing two clusters with redox properties in one framework still remains challenging. Linking oxidative polyoxometalate (POM) clusters and a reductive cyclic trinuclear copper complex (Cu-CTC) to prepare stable catalysts is rarely reported. Herein, we successfully obtained two new polyoxometalate-based metal–organic compounds (POMOCs) [CuII3(PyCA)3(μ3-OH)(β-Mo8O26)0.5(H2O)2]·5H2O (1), [CuII3(PyCA)3(μ3-OH)]2(CuIIW12O40)[CuII(H2O)6] (2) (PyCA = 1H-pyrazole-4-carbaldehyde) by enabling precursors of Cu-CTC and POM cocrystallization in one pot via hydrothermal method. The [β-Mo8O26]4– cluster in compound 1 combined with Cu-CTC units to form a 1D structure, and the [CuW12O40]6– unit in compound 2 linked two Cu-CTC units to form a sandwich-like 0D structure. Also, Cu-CTC CuI3(PyCA)3·H2O (Cu3) was synthesized for performance comparison. A series of characterizations indicate that compound 1 is more conducive to electron transfer than compound 2. In addition, compounds 1 and 2 can act as bifunctional catalysts for the electrochemical detection and photocatalytic reduction of Cr(VI). Particularly, the photoreduction rates of Cr(VI) by compounds 1 and 2 are 96.7% and 96.3% for only 10 and 14 min under visible light, respectively, and it is better than that of Cu3 and most other reported photocatalysts. Furthermore, the active sites and mechanisms for electrochemical detection and photocatalytic reduction of Cr(VI) were discussed.

The impressive water stability demonstrated by MIL-101(Cr) highlights its considerable potential for the effective elimination of organic contaminants from wastewater. Nevertheless, the limited availability of adsorption sites within MOFs leads to an unsatisfactory capacity for tetracycline (TC) adsorption. In this case, the lanthanum modified MIL-101(Cr) porous adsorbents, termed as nLa-MIL-101(Cr), were successfully synthesized using a post-synthetic modification method. Through various characterization analyses, it was confirmed that lanthanum exists in the form of La(OH) 3 within the adsorbents, and all adsorbents also preserved the original structure as MIL-101(Cr). The results of static adsorption experiments demonstrated that, compared to the original material, the adsorption capacity of 1La-MIL-101(Cr) for TC increased by 3.5 times. Further experiments demonstrated that the adsorbent exhibits remarkable ion interference resistance and cycle stability. Finally, based on X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, the adsorption mechanism was primarily attributed to the coordination between TC molecules and metals active site, while electrostatic interactions also played a significant role in the process. This study has developed a highly efficient adsorbent for the treatment of TC-contaminated wastewater, which reflects promising practical application prospects.

The design and construction of diverse heterojunction architectures have emerged as an effective strategy for enhancing the photocatalytic performance of semiconductors. In this study, ZIF-8/TiO 2 composite nanofibers were successfully fabricated by combining electrospinning technology with a facile in-situ solvothermal method, followed by ZIF-8 sulfurization to form ZnS/TiO 2 nanofiber heterostructures. Comprehensive characterization confirmed that ZIF-8 on the surface of TiO 2 nanofibers was completely converted into ZnS, establishing a robust and intimate interface with TiO 2 . The resulting ZnS/TiO 2 heterojunction exhibited remarkable photocatalytic reduction activity for Cr(VI), achieving 100% removal efficiency within 20 min under visible light irradiation. The photocatalytic reaction rate constant of the ZnS@TiO 2 nanofibers was approximately 10 and 319.5 times higher than those of pristine ZnS and TiO 2 nanofibers, respectively. This enhanced photocatalytic performance is attributed to the formation of the heterojunction, which effectively narrows the bandgap of the composite, optimizes photogenerated charge transfer pathways and significantly improves electron-hole pairs separation. Furthermore, mechanistic studies identified photogenerated electrons (e − ) and superoxide radicals ( O 2 − ) as the dominant active species involved in the photocatalytic reduction process. This work provides both fundamental understanding and practical methodology for developing high-performance TiO 2 -based photocatalytic systems, highlighting their potential for advanced water purification technologies.

Background Glutathione (GSH) serves as a pivotal antioxidant within biological systems. Dysregulated GSH levels are associated with a spectrum of pathologies, including carcinogenesis, hepatic dysfunction, and neurodegenerative disorders. Developing robust GSH detection methodologies is essential for assessing cellular health, facilitating early diagnosis of disease states, and tracking therapeutic efficacy. Electrochemiluminescence (ECL), which integrates electrochemical reactions with luminescent output, offers low background noise, making it highly suitable for biomolecule analysis. ECL-based GSH assays employing advanced nanomaterials are anticipated to amplify signals at low GSH concentrations, thereby playing a critical role in clinical diagnostics and biochemical research. Results This study presents a novel ECL sensor for the ultrasensitive detection of GSH, utilizing chromium/g–C 3 N 4 –loaded carbon nanospheres (CNs@Cr/g-C 3 N 4 ) composites. Carbon spheres (CNs) and chromium (Cr) can improve the ECL properties of g-C 3 N 4 . However, the ECL signal of CNs@Cr/g-C 3 N 4 is quenched (off-state) due to complex formation with Cu 2+ . Upon GSH addition, the higher coordination affinity between GSH and Cu 2+ partially restores the ECL signal of g-C 3 N 4 (on-state), allowing for quantitative GSH detection. Under optimized conditions, the linear detection range for GSH extends from 5.0 × 10 −9 to 1.0 × 10 −4 M with a limit of detection (LOD) of 3.3 × 10 −10 M (S/N = 3), alongside high selectivity, stability, and reproducibility. More notably, the as-proposed ECL sensor was successfully applied to the quantification of GSH in real drug samples with excellent recovery rates. Signifiance In contrast to traditional techniques for GSH detection, our approach involves a one-time chemical modification of the electrode, eliminating the need for complex probe immobilization steps and streamlining the detection process. Besides, this “off-on” ECL sensing strategy, leveraging Cu 2+ and CNs@Cr/g-C 3 N 4 , offers an innovative approach for developing advanced sensing systems. And this method is user-friendly, cost-effective, holding significant potential for applications in clinical diagnostics and pharmaceutical analysis.

Solar-driven photocatalysis is a promising green technology for wastewater treatment. Molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 ) is a highly efficient visible-light photocatalyst. However, due to the rapid recombination of photoinduced electron-hole (e - -h + ) pairs, its photocatalytic activity is severely limited, thereby hindering its practical application. To solve this problem, a novel MoS 2 -3,4,9,10-perylene tetracarboxylic acid (MoS 2 -PTCDG) heterojunction was synthesized via a hydrothermal method. In this composite, PTCDG nanosheets are embedded in the interlayer spaces of three-dimensional flower-like MoS 2 nanospheres, forming an organic–inorganic heterostructure. This design not only improves the separation efficiency of photogenerated e - -h + pairs, but also the hydrophilic terminal carboxyl groups on PTCDG can serve as adsorption sites for Cr(VI) pollutants. The MoS 2 -PTCDG composite demonstrates exceptional photocatalytic activity and stability in degrading Cr(VI) under simulated sunlight, achieving a reaction rate constant 2.5 times higher than that of pure MoS 2 . This study highlights the potential of rationally designed organic–inorganic heterostructures to overcome the limitations of traditional MoS 2 -based photocatalysts, thus offering new insights into the development of high-performance photocatalytic materials for environmental remediation.

Polymetallic nanomaterials have important development potential by integrating the properties and advantages of their components. However, their preparation paradigm urgently needs to be updated to make full use of their characteristics to realize their multifaceted applications. In this study, multifunctional trimetallic gold–silver–chromium nanocomposites (Au–Ag–Cr NCs) were successfully synthesized, and their polymetallic plasmonic absorption properties were used in a variety of applications, from multimode and multianalyte sensing, advanced arithmetic, and reversible logic to long-text information protection. Au–Ag–Cr NCs with Au or Ag nanoparticles anchored on Cr nanobelts were synthesized using Au–Cr nanoseeds, Ag + , ascorbic acid as the reductant, and sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate as the stabilizer. The resulting Au–Ag–Cr NCs exhibited multichannel sensing ability for 2 analytes (Hg 2+ and hypochlorite), with remarkably improved selectivity and sensitivity when analyzing combined channels. Multiresponsiveness of Au–Ag–Cr NCs to diverse substance combinations underpins input–output mapping relationships, enabling advanced molecular logic computations (such as arithmetic and reversible logic). By digitizing its intrinsic sensing and response mechanisms, advanced molecular information protection (including encoding, encryption, and information concealment) for extended text were successfully implemented. This work not only offers novel insights into the design and multifunctionality of multicomponent nanocomposites but also paves the way for a new paradigm in molecular information technology that integrates sensing, logic processing, and information security.

Persistent environmental pollution by heavy metals, particularly Cr (VI), poses significant risks to ecosystems and human health due to its high toxicity and bioaccumulation potential. The development of high-performance, cost-effective adsorbents from sustainable materials remains a critical challenge in the field of Cr (VI) remediation. This study investigates the influence of pyrrolic-N (N-5) within nitrogen-doped hierarchical porous carbon (N-HPC) on its adsorption capacity. Results indicate that N-HPC variants with a higher N-5 content exhibit superior adsorption abilities. The optimal sample demonstrated an exceptional adsorption capacity of 386.2 mg/g for Cr (VI). Even after seven regeneration cycles, this N-HPC variant maintained a remarkable 77.8 % removal efficiency for Cr (VI), highlighting its robust stability and selectivity. The relationship between the physicochemical properties of N-5 and N-HPC was thoroughly examined, revealing that N-5 plays a crucial role in the adsorption process. Due to its high electronegativity, nitrogen-doping into the carbon framework generates a dipole moment, enhancing the electronegativity of N-HPC, altering its local electron density and polarity, increasing specific surface area, carbon defect density, and ion exchange capacity. These factors collectively contribute to significant improvements in pore filling, ion exchange efficiency, and electrostatic adsorption by N-HPC. The reduction complexation mechanism emerges as the dominant factor in the adsorption process. N-5 not only provides reducing electrons as an electron donor, facilitating the continuous conversion of Cr (VI) to Cr (III), but also acts as an adsorption active site, complexing Cr to the surface of N-HPC. This synergistic effect strengthens the reduction complexation, enhances adsorption performance, and improves the regeneration cycle and adsorption selectivity for Cr.

The selective catalytic reduction of NOxwith CH4(CH4-SCR) holds the potential to simultaneously abate harmful NOxand CH4greenhouse gases. In this study, a series of bimetallic M-In/H-SSZ-39 catalysts (where M represents Cr, Co, Ce, and Fe) were prepared via an ion exchange method and subsequently evaluated for their CH4-SCR activity. The influences of the preparation parameters, including the metal ion concentration and calcination temperature, as well as the operating conditions, such as the CH4/NO ratio, O2concentration, water vapor content, and gas hourly space velocity (GHSV), on the catalytic activity of the optimal Cr-In/H-SSZ-39 catalyst were meticulously examined. The results revealed that the Cr-In/H-SSZ-39 catalyst exhibited peak CH4-SCR catalytic performance when the Cr(NO3)3concentration was 0.0075 M, the In(NO3)3concentration was 0.066 M, and the calcination temperature was 500 °C. Under optimal operating conditions, namely GHSV of 10,000 h−1, 400 ppm NO, 800 ppm CH4, 15 vol% O2, and 6 vol% H2O, the NOxconversion rate reached 93.4%. To shed light on the excellent performance of Cr-In/H-SSZ-39 under humid conditions, a comparative analysis of the crystalline phase, chemical composition, pore structure, surface chemical state, surface acidity, and redox properties of Cr-In/H-SSZ-39 and In/H-SSZ-39 was conducted. The characterization results indicated that the incorporation of Cr into In/H-SSZ-39 enhanced its acidity and also facilitated the generation of InO+active species, which promoted the oxidation of NO and the activation of CH4, respectively. A synergistic effect was observed between Cr and In species, which significantly improved the redox properties of the catalyst. Consequently, the activated CH4could further interact with InO+to produce carbon-containing intermediates such as HCOO−, which ultimately reacted with nitrate-based intermediates to yield N2, CO2, and H2O.

A weak electric field (WEF, 2 mA cm −2 ) was employed to promote Fe(III)/Fe(II) cycle on goethite-impregnated activated carbon (FeOOH@AC) filled in a continuous-flow column for enhanced Cr(VI) elimination from water. Surficial analysis and Cr species distribution showed that α-FeOOH of 0.2–1 μm was successfully synthesized and evenly loaded onto AC. Electron transfer from WEF to α-FeOOH was facilitated with AC as electron shuttles, thereby boosting Fe(III) reduction in the α-FeOOH. The generated Fe(II) reduced Cr(VI) and the resultant Cr(III) subsequently precipitated with OH − and Fe(III) to form Cr(OH) 3 and (Cr χ Fe 1-χ )(OH) 3 . Therefore, the WEF-FeOOH@AC column exhibited a much lower Cr(VI) migration rate of 0.0018 cm PV −1 in comparison with 0.0037 cm PV −1 of the FeOOH@AC column, equal to 104 % higher Cr(VI) elimination capacity and 90 % longer column service life-span. Additionally, under different Cr(VI) loadings by varying either seepage velocities or influent Cr(VI) concentrations, the WEF-FeOOH@AC column maintained 1.0–1.5 folds higher Cr(VI) elimination and 0.9–1.4 folds longer longevity than those of the FeOOH@AC column owing to the interaction between FeOOH@AC and WEF. Our research demonstrated that WEF-FeOOH@AC was a potential method to promote Cr(VI) elimination from water and offer an effective strategy to facilitate Fe(III)/Fe(II) cycle in iron oxides .

Hexavalent chromium [Cr(VI)] presents substantial environmental and health hazards due to its pronounced toxicity and mobility in soils. Traditional chemical reduction methods for Cr(VI) are often inadequate for treating chromium-contaminated soils, as they may fail to fully reduce Cr(VI), leading to incomplete remediation. Consequently, there is a critical need to develop more efficient and environmentally sustainable methods for the treatment of hexavalent chromium. This study explores an innovative approach using microwave-enhanced reduction of soil iron minerals facilitated by tea polyphenols to achieve transformational fixation of Cr(VI). The microwave-assisted treatment (0.5 wt% TP combined with MW at 700 W for 10 min) significantly reduced Cr(VI) concentrations in iron-rich soil from 363.4 mg kg −1 to 0.3 mg kg −1 , achieving a removal rate of 99.9%, compared to TP treatment alone (0.5 wt%). Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analyses revealed that the enhanced removal efficiency of Cr(VI) by microwave-assisted tea polyphenols is attributable to the accelerated reduction of soil iron minerals by the polyphenols. Furthermore, microwave enhancement facilitated the transformation of Cr into more stable forms, such as Cr 2 O 3 and FeCr 2 O 4 . Additionally, the Cr(VI) content in the treated soil remained below 3 mg kg −1 after 360 days of atmospheric exposure, indicating sustained immobilization. This study demonstrates that the integration of tea polyphenols with microwave irradiation constitutes a promising strategy for the remediation of Cr(VI)-contaminated soils.
