One of the potential treatments for bacterial wound infections is photodynamic therapy. WO3–x semiconductor materials can generate reactive oxygen species when exposed to light, which can inactivate bacteria. In this work, we improved their photocatalytic performance by doping WO3–x with Cu. The wound dressing was prepared by loading Cu–WO3–x into a highly biocompatible chitosan sponge. The composite sponge dressing showed significant inactivation of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, and in vitro toxicity assays on L929 cells demonstrated the biosafety of the dressing. Through in vivo wound healing trials, composite sponge dressings have been shown to accelerate wound healing, and this composite chitosan sponge can be possibly used for photodynamic therapy of bacterial wound infections.

Polydopamine nanoparticles (PDA NPs) are an appealing biomimetic photothermal agent for photothermal antibacterial treatment because of their long-term safety, excellent photostability, accessible manufacturing, and good biodegradability. However, the low photothermal conversion efficiency (PCE) of PDA NPs requires high-power and long-term near-infrared light irradiation, which severely restricts their practical application. In this work, [email protected] NPs were fabricated by growing Cu NPs in situ on the surface of PDA and then introduced into a polyelectrolyte hydrogel precursor (cationic polyethyleneimine/anionic pectin, named as CPAP). The formulated photothermal platform possessed a high PCE (55.4%), almost twice as much as pure PDA NPs (30.8%). Moreover, the designed CPAP/ [email protected] captured and killed some bacteria by electrostatic adsorption, which helped enhance the antibacterial performance. As expected, the formed CPAP/ [email protected] that combined the advantageous features of [email protected] NPs (high PCE) and CPAP matrix (inherent antibacterial activity and preventing NPs aggregation) can efficiently kill bacteria both in vitro and in vivo under the help of near-infrared laser irradiation. Taken together, this study offers a promising strategy for constructing a facile and safe PDA-based photothermal agent for photothermal antibacterial therapy.

The combination of Cu and Ag presents a promising way to steer the CO2 reduction products through regulating the surface active sites. However, the difficulty in forming the CuAg alloy with a controllable atomic ratio impedes the in-depth understanding of the structure–activity relationship of CuAg catalysts. Herein, we use E-beam evaporation to synthesize a series of CuAg films with uniform distribution and controllable stoichiometry to reveal the real reaction mechanism on CuAg for the electrochemical CO2 reduction process. Compared with Cu, the Cu1–xAgx (x = 0.05–0.2) alloy showed an apparent suppression of HCOOH and the ratio between C2 liquid products (e.g., ethanol and acetate) and C1 liquid product (HCOOH) is also increased. Operando synchrotron radiation Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy results suggest that the introduction of Ag into the Cu phase can significantly strengthen the absorbed *CO and *OCCO intermediates and suppress the O–C–O intermediates. This research provides a reliable way to inhibit the generation of HCOOH and enhance the production of liquid C2 products during CO2RR and presents a guideline for the future manipulation of copper catalysts by alloying.

Metal–organic framework (MOF)-derived pure ZnO and Cu-doped ZnO nanocages were fabricated by calcining a zeolitic imidazole framework (ZIF-8) and Cu-doped ZIF-8. The morphology and crystal structure of the samples were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). It was found that Cu doping did not change the crystal structures and morphologies of MOF-derived ZnO nanocages. The H2S-sensing properties of the sensors based on ZnO and Cu-doped ZnO nanocages were investigated. The results indicated that the H2S-sensing properties of MOF-derived ZnO nanocages were effectively improved by Cu doping, and the optimal doping content was 3 at%. Moreover, 3 at% Cu-doped ZnO nanocages showed the highest response of 4733 for 5 ppm H2S at 200 °C, and the detection limit could be as low as 20 ppb. The gas-sensing mechanism was also discussed.Keywords:MOF-derived ZnO;nanocages;Cu doping;H2S sensing

We developed a layered composite with directional distributed reduced graphene oxide (RGO) in a copper matrix through a double-slot multi-step electrodeposition method, playing to the advantage of in-plane thermal conductivity of RGO. The resulting RGO/Cu composite has superior thermal conductivity up to 545 W m −1 K −1 (150% of copper), which was determined by the growth behavior of the RGO flake on the copper substrate through adjusting electrodeposition time. By analyzing the structure, distribution status and its relationship with thermal conductivity, three factors including of structural integrity of RGO, thermal conduction network and interfacial effect between RGO layers were proposed. With the increase of deposition time, the restoration of RGO lattice structure and the formation of a complete thermal conduction network both promoted the phonon transmission, which was beneficial to the improvement of thermal conductivity. The multi-layer stacking of RGO, however, could generate the interlayer interfacial effects, resulting in the phonon scattering and unfavorable to the thermal conductivity. Therefore, proper adjustment of RGO deposition time resulted in excellent thermal conductivity of RGO/Cu composite, meeting the demands for the heat dissipation performance of the instrument.

Cu δ+ sites on the surface of oxide-derived copper (OD-Cu) are of vital importance in electrochemical CO 2 reduction reaction (CO 2 RR). However, the underlying reason for the dynamically existing Cu δ+ species, although thermodynamically unstable under reductive CO 2 RR conditions, remains uncovered. Here, by using electron paramagnetic resonance, we identify the highly oxidative hydroxyl radicals (OH • ) formed at room temperature in HCO 3 - solutions. In combination with in situ Raman spectroscopy, secondary ion mass spectrometry, and isotope-labelling, we demonstrate a dynamic reduction/reoxidation behavior at the surface of OD-Cu and reveal that the fast oxygen exchange between HCO 3 - and H 2 O provides oxygen sources for the formation of OH • radicals. In addition, their continuous generations can cause spontaneous oxidation of Cu electrodes and produce surface CuO x species. Significantly, this work suggests that there is a “seesaw-effect” between the cathodic reduction and the OH • -induced reoxidation, determining the chemical state and content of Cu δ+ species in CO 2 RR. This insight is supposed to thrust an understanding of the crucial role of electrolytes in CO 2 RR.

In the present work, irregular Cu nanoparticle-decorated boron–carbon–nitrogen (Cu–BCN) nanosheets were successfully synthesized. A Cu–BCN dispersion was deposited on a bare glassy carbon electrode (GCE) to prepare an electrochemical sensor (Cu–BCN/GCE) for the detection of chloramphenicol (CAP) in the environment. Cu–BCN was characterized using high-resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy (HRSTEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The performance of the Cu–BCN/GCE was studied using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and its advantages were proven by electrode comparison. Differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) was used to optimize the experimental conditions, including the amount of Cu–BCN deposited, enrichment potential, deposition time, and pH of the electrolyte. A linear relationship between the CAP concentration and current response was obtained under the optimized experimental conditions, with a wide linear range and a limit of detection (LOD) of 2.41 nmol/L. Cu–BCN/GCE exhibited high stability, reproducibility, and repeatability. In the presence of various organic and inorganic species, the influence of the Cu–BCN-based sensor on the current response of CAP was less than 5%. Notably, the prepared sensor exhibited excellent performance in real-water samples, with satisfactory recovery.

It is quite important to develop sensitive, simple, and convenient methods for the simultaneous determination of Hydroquinone (HQ) and Catechol (CC) due to their wide existence, the difficulty of degradation, and the high toxicity. Herein, Cu-TCPP nanosheets were prepared inN,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) through the solvent exfoliation method. The morphology and electrochemical performance of Cu-TCPP were characterized, revealing its stacked sheet structure with abundant pores, a fast electron transfer ability, and a large electrode active area. Using Cu-TCPP nanosheets as the sensitive material to modify the glassy carbon electrodes (Cu-TCPP/GCEs), it was found that they had an obvious enhancement effect on the electrochemical oxidation currents of HQ and CC. The signal enhancement mechanism was explored. The Cu-TCPP nanosheets not only enhanced the accumulation abilities of HQ and CC, but also improved their apparent catalytic rate, displaying high sensitivity for HQ and CC. The values of the detection limit were calculated to be 3.4 and 2.3 nM for HQ and CC. A satisfactory recovery was obtained when this method was used in measuring HQ and CC in the water samples. Keywords:hydroquinone;catechol;electrochemical sensor;Cu-TCPP;2D MOFs

High CO 2 content exists in the raw syngas produced from supercritical water gasification of food waste, CO 2 removal to improve quality of the syngas is necessary before further utilization. In this study, Cu-BTC, Mg/Cu-BTC, Cu-BTC@MWCNT, and Mg/Cu-BTC@MWCNT were synthesized and characterized as CO 2 adsorbents. The adsorption experiments were conducted to investigate the optimal adsorbent and adsorption conditions. The results indicated that Mg 2+ and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) doped into Cu-BTC influenced the physical properties of adsorbents. Among of all studied adsorbents, Mg/Cu-BTC@MWCNT had the maximum CO 2 adsorption capacity (3.63 mmol/g) and selectivity (14.28) at 25 °C and 100 kPa. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) exhibited that adsorption pressure had significant effects on CO 2 adsorption capacity of Mg/Cu-BTC@MWCNT. The influences of different operating parameters on CO 2 adsorption capacity and selectivity were discussed in Mg/Cu-BTC@MWCNT. The adsorption isotherms of gas components on Mg/Cu-BTC@MWCNT can be sorted as follows: CO 2 > CO > CH 4 > H 2 . In additional, the regeneration experiment with 5 times was conducted and the result showed that Mg/Cu-BTC@MWCNT has high stability.

In this paper, a novel colorimetric strategy based on iodide ion (I−) and Cu-MOF catalysis was developed for simple, low-cost, and naked-eye detection of Fe3+. Both I− and MOFs display catalytic activity toward peroxidase substrate 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB). Adsorption and embedding of I− in Cu-MOF generates Cu-MOF/I with a three-dimensional porous structure that exhibits higher specific surface area, providing more active sites to facilitate interaction with TMB, resulting in enhanced catalytic efficiency. Reports have shown that Fe3+ can oxidize TMB in the absence of H2O2. We found that as Fe3+ concentration increases, the color of the system gradually deepens and the UV absorption peak gradually increases, thus providing a colorimetric sensor for quantitative Fe3+ detection. The detection limit (LOD) obtained in the presence of I− is 200 nM; however, in the absence of I−, the LOD is approx. 10 μM. Thus, the sensing system is ideal for signal amplified analysis of Fe3+. In the presence of various interfering metal ions, the developed sensing system displays excellent selectivity. Additionally, the practical application to Fe3+ detection in real samples is explored.

Electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide to value-added fuels offers a promising method to solve increasingly serious environmental problems and alleviate energy crisis. Herein, we report a facile method by coating Cu electrode with CeO 2 nanoparticles to largely enhance the C 2+ products selectivity during CO 2 electroreduction. The Faradaic efficiency of C 2+ products for optimal CeO 2 -coated Cu electrode reached a high value of 61 % at -1.05 V vs RHE, and exhibited good stability for over 9 h of CO 2 electrolysis. The CeO 2 nanoparticles were found to induce oxidative corrosion of the Cu foil, leading to a CuO x layer in contact with the CeO 2 nanoparticles. The interface between CeO 2 nanoparticles and oxide-derived Cu might be attributed to the enhanced catalytic activity for C 2+ products by promoting the C C coupling process.

Fast, reliable, and low-cost glucose detection methods are of great importance for the control of diabetes. In this study, Cu2O combined with Cu nanoparticles anchored on reduced graphene oxide (RGO), was synthesized to function as the electrode in a non-enzymatic glucose sensor. The synergistic effect between Cu nanoparticles and Cu2O, together with the high conductivity of RGO enabled considerably lower resistivity with greater glucose oxidation activity than pure Cu2O. The RGO@Cu2O@Cu electrode exhibited a high sensitivity of 1.112 mA mM−1 cm−2 with a detection limit of 0.019 μM, and the linear range is up to 4 mM. Additionally, the RGO@Cu2O@Cu electrode displayed good anti-interference performance within human blood and high stability while operating for a long duration. Significantly, the glucose detection capability of the as-designed electrode was comparable to commercial sensors, representing a valuable design for future non-enzymatic glucose sensing.
