Porous noble metal nanomaterials have attracted extensive attention due to their high specific surface area and surface plasmon resonance effect. However, it is difficult to form porous structures due to the high mobility and low reduction potential of noble metal precursors. In this article, we developed a facile method for preparing porous Ag with a controllable structure at room temperature. Two kinds of Ag crystals with different porous structures were successfully prepared by using AgCl cubes as sacrificial templates. Through the galvanic replacement reaction of Zn and AgCl, Ag crystals with a sponge-like porous structure were successfully prepared. Additionally, using NaBH4as the reducing agent, we prepared granular porous Ag cubes by optimizing the amount of reducing agent. Both the sponge-like and granular porous Ag cubes have clean and accessible surfaces. In addition, we used the prepared two porous Ag cubes as substrate materials for SERS detection of five kinds of methamphetamine analogs. The experimental results show that the enhancement effect of granular porous Ag is better than that of sponge-like porous Ag. Furthermore, we probed the hot spot distribution of granular porous Ag by Raman mapping. By using granular porous Ag as the substrate material, we have achieved trace detection of 5 kinds of methamphetamine analogs including Ephedrine, Amphetamine, N-Methyl-1-(benzofuran-5-yl)propan-2-amine (5-MAPB), N-Methyl-1-(4-methoxyphenyl)propan-2-amine (PMMA) and N-Methyl-1-(4-fluorophenyl)propan-2-amine (4-FMA). Furthermore, to achieve qualitative differentiation of analogs with similar structures we performed density functional theoretical (DFT) calculations on the Raman spectra of the above analogs. The DFT calculations provided the vibrational frequencies, Raman activities, and normal mode assignment for each analog, enabling the qualitative differentiation of the above analogs. Keywords:Ag crystal;methamphetamine;SERS;porous structure

In this test, the eggshell membrane (ESM) is selected as the support membrane for the biocompatibility and anchors CNTs on the surface to increase the mechanical properties. Then Ag NPs are decorated on CNTs-ESM substrate as SERS substrate by twice in-situ reduction. Finally, a layer of imprinted polymers is coated on the surface of the substrate to synthesize the imprinted membrane for selective detection of spiramycin. It is exhibited from the characteristic results that the CNTs significantly increase the mechanical properties and the detection sensitivity, simultaneously. When the concentration of SP changes between 10 -6 ∼ 10 -11 M, there is a linear relationship between SERS intensity and SP concentration. The detection limit is 10 -11 M, and the correlation coefficient R 2 is 0.9864. The SERS imprinted membrane can be applied into the detection of antibiotics in practical sample, which broadens the research field of antibiotics detection.

Developing sensitive and miniaturized biosensors for the detection of microRNAs (miRNAs) is highly desirable due to their association with early cancer diagnosis and prognosis. Here, a new microfluidic-based biosensor, combined with multifunctional nanosurface and DSN-assisted target recycle amplification strategy, is designed for the detection of miRNA-21. The design of nanosurface includes gold nanoparticles on porous anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) for surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) substrate, Au MBA @Ag core-shell nanoparticles for SERS nanotags and single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) in between for miRNA capture and nanotags immobilization. When the target miRNA is present near the nanosurface, it will be captured by ssDNA via hybridization reaction. Then, triggered by the DSN-assisted target recycle process, the freshly formed DNA/miRNA heteroduplexes are cleaved by DSN enzyme into DNA fragments and single-strand miRNA. The SERS nanotags are also dissociated from the nanosurface, leading to decrease of SERS signal. The cleaved target miRNA can be captured and SERS nanotags are released again in the next cycle, resulting in amplification of detection signal. To improve the accuracy of this biosensor, the functionalized AAO membrane is subdivided into two groups - AAO/Au array linked with encoded core-shell SERS nanotags acting as a reactor and primary detector and AAO/ [email protected] array serving as a collector and secondary detector for the dissociative SERS nanotags from the reactor. The decrease of SERS signal in primary detector and increase of signal in secondary detector ensures the accuracy and it is called dual-SERS detection strategy. The detection of miRNA-21 can be achieved with only 30 μL sample and 10 μL enzyme and a wide linear range of 10 fM∼10 nM is obtained. In addition, the microfluidic dual-SERS detection strategy can greatly reduce the possibility of false positive or false negative in single detection mode and it can be applied to the simultaneous detection of multiple miRNAs via integrating different probes.

The use of gutter oil in cooking, which poses a serious threat to human health, has attracted increasing attention in recent years. Capsaicin, existing in chili peppers, is used to identify gutter oil. Here, in order to detect capsaicin fast and accurately for gutter oil discrimination, we introduce a hybrid method to detect capsaicin based on a diazo coupling reaction and surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) technology. A diazo coupling reaction is applied to the composite of p-aminothiophenol (4-ATP) and capsaicin, and the product, azo dye, is adopted as the SERS probe. Gold nanorods (Au NRs) are prepared using the seed-mediated growth method and utilized as the SERS substrate. The Au–S bond between the azo dye and the Au NRs has a powerful ability to spontaneously capture target molecules on the sensing interface. The production of the diazo coupling reaction is proven with an ultraviolet–visible (UV–vis) absorption spectrum. As-synthesized Au NRs are characterized with a UV–vis absorption spectrum, transmission electron microscope, and SERS. Significantly improved SERS peaks were observed at 1114 and 1392 cm −1 , showing this method can be used to detect capsaicin and identify gutter oil. In a broad range of 10 −11 ~ 10 −4 M, the log-linear relationship between SERS intensity and capsaicin concentration is well established, with a detection limit of 3.24 × 10 −12 M.

An ideal surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) substrate should exhibit a high electromagnetic field enhancement factor, simple preparation repeatability low cost. Here, we prepared a reproducible nanoplasmonic paper SERS substrate via a silver mirror reaction (SMR) and AgNO 3 -ascorbic acid (AgNO 3 -ASC) solution treatment method to reduce Ag nanoparticles (Ag NPs) on the surface of the flexible glass fiber filter paper (GFP). GFP with Ag NPs (AgNPs@GFP) was used for SERS to detect melamine molecules (MMs). The results showed that melamine molecules’ detection limit was up to 1 ng/mL. The maximum enhancement factor of the SERS signal reached 838, and the sensitivity was 150. This strategy of fabricating SERS substrates based on GFP can provide a new way to prepare a low-cost flexible SERS substrate and increase the sensitivity of biomolecules.

Nanostructured noble metal-semiconductor materials have been attracting increasing attention because of their broad application in the field of environmental remediation, sensing and photocatalysis. In this study, a facile approach for fabricating silver@mesoporousanataseTiO2(Ag@mTiO2) core-shell nanoparticles employing sol-gel and hydrothermal reaction is demonstrated. The Ag@mTiO2nanoparticles display excellent surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) sensitivity and they can detect the methylene blue (MB) molecules with the concentration of as low as 10−8M. They also exhibit outstanding photocatalytic activity compared with mTiO2, due to the efficient separation and recombination restrain of electron–hole pairs under ultraviolet light. The Ag@mTiO2nanoparticles also present good stability and they can achieve recyclable photocatalytic degradation experiments for five times without loss of activity. Subsequently, the nanoparticles with dual functions were successfully used to in situ monitor the photodegradation process of MB aqueous solution. These results, demonstrating the multifunctional Ag@mTiO2nanoparticles, hold promising applications for simultaneous SERS analysis and the removal of dye pollutants in environmental field. Keywords:photocatalytic degradation;surface-enhanced Raman scattering;TiO2;Ag nanoparticle;core-shell

A simple template-free method was developed for the fabrication of fibers whose surfaces were covered by a three-dimensional interconnected network of Au nanostructures (3D-NW AuNSs) without additional stabilizer. The EDS and XPS measurements confirmed the metallic nature of the formed 3D gold nanowire networks on the fiber surface. The morphology of these 3D-NW AuNSs can be controlled by the experimental parameters, such as reaction time, roughness of the glass fiber surface, HAuCl 4 , and sodium citrate concentration. The 3D gold nanowire networks showed excellent uniformity. Additionally, the nanofiber was used to accurately and reliably detect methyl red (MR), crystal violet (CV), and acridine orange (AO), which can be detected as low as 1, 10, and 5 μg/L, respectively. Since the proposed strategy is simple, cost-effective, and reproducible for the mass production of network-like gold film–covered nanofiber, it is expected to play an important role in the development of trace analytical devices.

Pesticide residues will be a huge threat to food security and ecological environment; therefore, there is an urgent need to achieve rapid and on-site detection of pesticide residues. Herein, a plasmonic substrate with multiple “hot spots” was fabricated by transferring three-dimensional (3D) Au nanoparticles (NPs) onto the polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) membrane for highly sensitive surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) detection of pesticide residues. In combination with 3D-FDTD simulations, high SERS enhancement (EF = 1.2 × 10 8 ) and high detection sensitivity (LOD = 6.3 × 10 -10 M) were achieved, mainly due to the enhanced electromagnetic fields around the “hot spots”. Additionally, the PDMS-based SERS substrate held good transparency and flexibility, enabling conformal contact with non-planar surfaces and allowing the laser to penetrate the back of the analytes. Combined with a portable Raman spectrometer, the substrates holds great potential for rapid, high-sensitive, and on-site detection of contaminants in food, especially for the analyte on the nonplanar surfaces.

Multiplex detection of biomarkers is nontrivial for gastric cancer diagnosis. Herein, we presented a lab-on-a-chip surface-enhanced Raman scattering (LoC-SERS) sensing system for the detection of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and platelet-derived growth factor-B (PDGF-B). The sensing system includes three parallel channels, each channel consists of two detection chambers, enabling the simultaneous analysis of multiple samples. The capillary structure provides self-driving power without the need of external pumps. The ordered gold nano-bipyramids (GNBPs) array in the detection chamber can form uniform and dense “hot spots”, due to the homogeneous double-tip structure and narrow gaps, resulting in better SERS performance. During the analysis process, VEGF and PDGF-B in the serum can lead to the change of aptamer conformation. Raman reporter-labeled complementary DNA is shed from the aptamer due to competition of the target. The entire process only requires 20 min, which is rapid. By monitoring the changes in Raman intensity and fitting it with the logarithm of concentration, the correlation between the intensity and concentration can be clearly reflected as a mathematical relationship. The LoC-SERS sensing system has been verified to have excellent selectivity and reproducibility. Via the sensing system, the limits of detection (LOD) of VEGF and PDGF-B are as low as 0.342 pg/mL and 0.265 pg/mL in serum, respectively. In addition, the accuracy was verified through enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Therefore, the proposed LoC-SERS sensing system has great potential for clinical detection of gastric cancer.

Antibiotic residues in animal-derived food (egg) are threatening human health. Semiconductor heterojunction surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) substrates can be used for ultra-sensitive detection of antibiotic residues in egg. Here, a TiO 2 /ZnO heterojunction was developed as a new SERS substrate based on an interface engineering strategy. Due to strong interfacial coupling and efficient carrier separating in heterostructure, utilization rate of photo-induced electrons in substrate was improved greatly, which realized the efficient charge transfer in substrate-molecule system, resulting in a prominent SERS enhancement. Taking the detection of enrofloxacin residue in egg as an example, the limit of detection (LOD) is only 13.1 μg/kg, which is far below the European Union standard, and lower than LODs of other conventional analytical methods and existing noble metal-based SERS methods. More importantly, benefiting from high sensitivity and selectivity of heterojunction and fingerprint characteristics of SERS, multiple antibiotic residues in egg can be identified simultaneously.

Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) technology has attracted more and more attention in the biomedical field due to its ability to provide molecular fingerprint information of biological samples, as well as its potential in single-cell analysis. This work aims to establish a simple strategy for label-free SERS bioanalysis based on Au@carbon dot nanoprobes (Au@CDs). Here, polyphenol-derived CDs are utilized as the reductant to rapidly synthesize core-shell Au@CD nanostructures, which allows powerful SERS performance even when the concentration of methylene blue (MB) is as low as 10-9 M, due to the cooperative Raman enhancement mechanism. For bioanalysis, Au@CDs can serve as a unique SERS nanosensor to identify the cellular components of biosamples (e.g., cancer cells and bacteria). The molecular fingerprints from different species can be further distinguished after combination with the principal component analysis. In addition, Au@CDs also enable label-free SERS imaging to analyze intracellular composition profiles. This strategy offers a feasible, label-free SERS bioanalysis, opening up a new prospect for nanodiagnosis.
