Titanium in different amounts has been successfully doped into the zirconium-based metal–organic framework UiO-66 via an in situ synthesis method, resulting in a series of hybrid UiO-66-nTi MOFs. These materials maintain a relatively high crystallinity and excellent structural stability. The addition of titanium has a significant effect on the crystal size and morphology of UiO-66. The UiO-66-nTi MOFs exhibit a sphere-like crystal morphology with a smaller crystal size and a rougher surface compared to the octahedral UiO-66 crystals. The framework order and porosity of the UiO-66-nTi MOFs decrease slightly due to titanium doping. The UiO-66-nTi MOFs were studied as adsorbents for the removal of an organic dye from water. The results demonstrate that these hybrid materials have enhanced adsorption capacity for the organic dye Conge red in comparison with the parent UiO-66. UiO-66-2.7Ti with 2.7% titanium doping shows the highest adsorption capacity of 979 mg g−1, which is three times higher than that of the parent UiO-66. The strong electrostatic attraction between the positively charged surface of UiO-66-2.7Ti and the negatively charged Congo red molecules was identified as the main driving force for the high adsorption capacity.

In this work, metal organic framework (MOF) UiO-66 with strong stability in water was synthesized and used for the preconcentration of ultratrace arsenic in environment water and the precipitated UiO-66 was converted to slurry for direct determination with hydride generation-atomic fluorescence spectrometry (HG-AFS). Factors affecting the adsorption of arsenic by UiO-66, including pH, adsorption time, stability of UiO-66, masking agents together with the optimum conditions of HG-AFS were investigated in detail. The performance of UiO-66 for adsorbing arsenic was excellent at room temperature over a wide range of pH from 1 to 11, and adsorption efficiencies of > 95% could be achieved within only 5 min. Meanwhile, since conventional digestion process is avoided, the slurry sampling method is fast and convenient with greatly reduced matrix interference. Under the optimum conditions, it shows a good linear relationship between AFS intensities (I) and the concentrations of arsenic (C) (I = 547C + 61) with linear correlation coefficients better than 0.99. A precision of 3% (RSD%, n = 11) at 1 ng/mL and a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.0002 ng/mL were obtained.

In this work, bismuth bromideoxide (BiOBr), a typical visible-light photocatalyst , was coated with Zr-based MOFs (UiO-66) to prepare the BiOBr@UiO-66 photocatalysts with different mole ratios by the solvothermal method. The core–shell BiOBr@UiO-66 photocatalysts with abundant activated sites was obtained due to the modification of UiO-66 on the surface of BiOBr. The structure and properties of the BiOBr@UiO-66 photocatalysts were characterized by several methods. The 30% BiOBr@UiO-66 photocatalysts exhibited the biggest photodegradation rate constant (k = 0.0669 min −1 ) for RhB under visible-light irradiation than pure BiOBr (k = 0.0281 min −1 ) and UiO-66 (k = 0.0041 min −1 ). Additionally, the 30% BiOBr@UiO-66 photocatalysts exhibited the enhanced photocatalytic activity and stable recyclability due to the effective electron-hole separation and synergistic effect. The photocatalytic mechanism of the BiOBr@UiO-66 photocatalysts for RhB, which contained a photosensitization process, was discussed with the trapping experiment of active species and the proposed energy band alignments.

First piezo-responsive MOF heterostructure for mechanical Cr(VI) reduction. • F-modified MOF and ZnO loading synergistically boost piezoelectric response. • Efficient piezo-catalytic interface enables ultrafast Cr(VI) reduction. • 10 ppm Cr(VI) completely reduced to undetectable level within only 15 s. Hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) is highly toxic and carcinogenic; its reduction to Cr(III) remains the most viable remediation strategy. Piezoelectric catalysis, which converts mechanical energy into chemical energy via built-in electric fields, offers a sustainable route for pollutant degradation. However, the application of piezoelectric Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) in heavy metal reduction remains largely unexplored. Herein, we report a strategy of fluorination combine with ZnO loading to construct piezoelectric MOF heterostructures for ultrafast Cr(VI) reduction. The optimized ZnO/UiO-66-F 4 completely reduced 10 ppm Cr(VI) to below detection limits within merely 30 s under sonication, substantially outperforming pristines. Systematic characterizations and DFT calculations revealed that fluorination depresses the conduction band to −0.91 V vs. NHE, establishing a type-II staggered band alignment with ZnO that synergizes with the piezoelectric field to drive vectorial charge separation, as corroborated by markedly reduced charge-transfer resistance and prolonged fluorescence lifetime with enhanced quantum yield. Mechanistic investigations further identified the interfacial Zn Zr dual-atom site as the true catalytic center, exhibiting the strongest Cr(VI) adsorption affinity and the lowest activation energy barrier for the rate-determining step. The catalyst demonstrated exceptional durability, retaining 98.2% removal efficiency after five cycles with negligible metal leaching. This work pioneers the application of piezoelectric MOFs in heavy metal remediation and establishes a molecular-level electronic modulation strategy for mechanical-energy-driven water purification. Piezoelectric ZnO/UiO-66-F 4 heterostructure was constructed via fluorine modification coupled with ZnO loading, demonstrating superior piezocatalytic performance for Cr(VI) reduction under ultrasonic vibration. Achieving uniform zinc deposition is crucial for high-performance
aqueous zinc-ion batteries, yet it remains a significant challenge.
While functional separators based on metal–organic frameworks
(MOFs) like UiO-66-NH 2 offer a promising route to regulate
ion flux, their effectiveness is often hampered by the energy-intensive
synthesis of MOFs and their poor dispersion within polymer matrices.
Herein, we report a rapid, room-temperature ultrasound-assisted synthesis
that yields UiO-66-NH 2 with a unique surface-fused morphology
and a hierarchical pore system within just 1 h. Unlike its conventional
counterpart with a well-defined octahedral shape, this ultrasound-induced
MOF (U-UN) forms a homogeneous and tightly integrated composite with
cellulose nanofibers, constructing a separator with optimized ion-transport
channels and interfacial stability. The U-UN-based separator demonstrates
superior ionic conductivity and Zn 2+ transference number,
effectively guiding the preferential growth of Zn along the (002)
plane. Consequently, a Zn||Zn symmetric cell equipped with this separator
achieves an ultrastable cycling life exceeding 1180 h, and a Zn||MnO 2 full cell retains nearly 100% capacity after 600 cycles at
1 A g –1 . This work not only presents a green and
efficient synthesis strategy for advanced MOFs but also provides fundamental
insights into the design of functional separators through microstructure
engineering for long-lasting metal batteries.

Heavy metal contamination in industrial wastewater remains a critical global environmental concern. In this study, an Al/Mg/Zr-MOF (AMZ-MOF) was synthesized via a solvothermal method and systematically evaluated for Cr (VI) removal from aqueous solutions. Comparative analysis demonstrated that AMZ-MOF exhibited superior Cr (VI) removal efficiency relative to pristine Zr-MOF, Mg/Zr-MOF, and Al/Zr-MOF. The synthesized AMZ-MOF composite was subjected to comprehensive characterization using FESEM, TEM, XRD, BET, FTIR, and XPS analyses. The study systematically investigated the influence of key operational parameters, including contact time, temperature, pH, and initial Cr (VI) concentration, on the composite’s sorption behavior. AMZ-MOF demonstrated exceptional performance, achieving a maximum Cr (VI) sorption capacity of 185.2 mg/g. Remarkably, the sorbent exhibited rapid initial uptake kinetics, reaching adsorption equilibrium within 120 min. Mechanistic insight was gained through adsorption isotherm and kinetic modeling, revealing that the process is best described by the Langmuir isotherm and the Pseudo-Second-Order kinetic model, suggesting monolayer adsorption onto a heterogeneous surface and chemisorption as the rate-limiting step, respectively. Further FTIR and XPS analyses corroborated the proposed sorption mechanism, clarifying the key functional groups and surface interactions involved in Cr (VI) removal. The proposed adsorbent demonstrated excellent reusability over five adsorption–desorption cycles, underscoring its stability and practical potential for Cr (VI) remediation.

This study systematically investigates the influence
of lithium
nitrate (LiNO 3 ) modification on the gas adsorption characteristics
of UiO-66. The adsorption isotherms for carbon dioxide (CO 2 ), methane (CH 4 ), and nitrogen (N 2 ) were acquired
within a pressure range of 0 to 20 bar. The results from the cyclic
testing indicate that the UiO-66–0.05LiNO 3 variant
exhibits commendable stability. Notably, the incorporation of LiNO 3 enhances the CO 2 adsorption capacity by 29.48%,
reaching 2.24 mmol·g –1 at a pressure of 1 bar.
This is attributed to the introduction of lithium ions, which enhance
the electrostatic interaction between CO 2 and the MOF.
Analysis of the high-pressure data reveals that the Langmuir–Freundlich
model provides the most robust fit, whereas the Langmuir and Dual-site
Langmuir models demonstrate increased discrepancies as pressure escalates.
According to calculations based on the Ideal Adsorption Solution Theory
(IAST), the maximum selectivity of the material for the CO 2 /CH 4 and CO 2 /N 2 mixtures is 11.5
and 56.0, respectively. These results suggest that LiNO 3 modification significantly enhances both the adsorption capacity
and the selectivity for CO 2 separation.

A novel ternary UiO-66- g -P4VP/CsPbBr₃ composite is rationally designed. • It achieves a high CO₂ reduction rate of 85.2 μmol g −1 h −1 under visible light. • The P4VP interlayer acts as a CO₂ adsorber and charge-transfer bridge. • A direct Z -scheme mechanism ensures efficient charge separation. Polymer interfacial engineering is developed to overcome the intrinsic charge-transfer barriers and instability caused by insulating ligands in MOF/perovskite composites. By covalently grafting poly(4-vinylpyridine) (P4VP) brushes onto UiO-66-NH₂, followed by in-situ confined growth of CsPbBr₃ quantum dots (QDs), we construct a ternary UiO-66- g -P4VP/CsPbBr₃ (UPC) photocatalyst. The P4VP interlayer serves triple synergistic functions including coordinating Pb 2+ to anchor ultrasmall monodisperse QDs, providing a charge transfer bridge for interfacial charge transfer, and enriching local CO₂ concentration. The optimized UPC-2 achieves an electron consumption rate of 85.2 μmol·g −1 ·h −1 for CO₂ reduction under visible light, 8.5 times that of pristine UiO-66-NH₂, with outstanding stability. Comprehensive spectroscopic, photoelectrochemical, and transient photovoltage analyses confirm a direct Z -scheme charge transfer mechanism that preserves strong redox potentials while suppressing interfacial recombination. This work establishes a versatile polymer-bridge strategy for designing durable, high-performance MOF/perovskite heterojunctions for solar fuel production. This study prepared UiO-66-NH2 MOFs embedded with Ru-tris(2,2′-bipyridyl)(II) hybrids as a nanozyme (designated as Ru/UiO-66-NH2) to propose a bioenzyme-free homogeneous electrochemical (HEC) sensing strategy for detecting organophosphorus pesticides (OPs). Experimental investigation coupled with density functional theory calculation demonstrated that the Ru incorporation significantly amplifies the peroxidase-like (POD-like) activity of UiO-66-NH2 MOFs and that the Ru/UiO-66-NH2 nanozyme exhibits selective responsiveness to coordinate with the OP molecules. Upon OP exposure, the specifical coordination between OPs and MOF structure effectively inhibits the nanozyme’s activity. Utilizing o-phenylenediamine as the catalytic substrate and glyphosate as a model of OPs, the optimized HEC sensor achieves an extensive linear detection range (0.5–10,000 ng/mL) and a low detection limit of 0.13 ng/mL as well as satisfactory recoveries in the real samples of tomato extract and water. It is expected that this innovative bioenzyme-free HEC sensing strategy represents a promising advancement for practical OP residue analysis with potential applications in various fields.

Photocatalytic CO 2 reduction has been widely recognized as an exceptionally promising technique for converting carbon dioxide into high-value-added chemicals. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have emerged as promising photocatalysts for visible-light-driven CO 2 reduction owing to their unique structural advantages, but the achieved efficiency is still not satisfying. Herein, we successfully constructed CdS/UiO-66(Ce) Z-Scheme heterojunction photocatalysts by in situ growth of CdS nanoparticles on an octahedral UiO-66(Ce) substrate. The morphology, physicochemical properties, and photoelectric characteristics of the prepared samples were systematically characterized in detail. Photocatalytic activity results indicated that the prepared heterostructure could efficiently reduce CO 2 to CO, and its activity was significantly superior to that of pristine UiO-66 (Ce) and CdS. Under illumination of visible light, the optimal as-prepared sample achieved a CO yield of 134.3 μmol g −1 h −1 , which was 168.6 and 2.62 times higher than that of pure UiO-66(Ce) and CdS, respectively. The reinforced photocatalytic CO 2 reduction to CO activity can be ascribed to the obviously improved visible-light harvesting and effectively facilitated the separation and migration of photogenerated charge carriers via a Z-scheme charge transfer. This study may well present a novel design strategy of highly efficient MOFs-based Z-scheme photocatalytic systems for photocatalytic CO 2 reduction.

A hemin (Hm)-engineered cerium-based metal–organic framework (MOF), UiO-66(Ce)@Hm, was prepared and used as a nanozyme for electrochemical sensing of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and dissolved hydrogen (H2) in beverages. UiO-66(Ce)@Hm showed enhanced electrocatalytic activity toward H2O2 because of the synergistic catalytic effects of Hm and UiO-66(Ce). The resulting sensor enabled H2O2 detection from 0.5 to 250 μM with a detection limit of 0.32 μM, and was successfully applied to milk analysis. In addition, dissolved H2 in hydrogen-rich water (HRW) promoted the catalytic conversion of o-phenylenediamine/H2O2 to electroactive 2,3-diaminophenazine, allowing H2 determination from 45 to 900 μM with a detection limit of 26.2 μM. These results demonstrate the potential of UiO-66(Ce)@Hm for food safety monitoring and quality assessment of HRW beverages.

Abstract Catechol-functionalized UiO-66(Zr) holds considerable promise for targeted catalytic transformations owing to its distinctive electronic and structural properties. However, the direct synthesis of such frameworks has remained a persistent synthetic challenge. Herein, we report a rational, solvent-free, one-pot synthetic strategy enabling precise control over catechol functionalization in UiO-66(Zr) (UiO-66(Zr)-(OH)2) with well-defined hierarchical porosity. The optimized UiO-66(Zr)-0.25(OH)2 displays markedly improved catalytic performance in the esterification of levulinic acid (LA) with primary alcohols to yield alkyl levulinates. This superior activity arises synergistically from three key features: (i) increased Brønsted acidity imparted by the ortho-dihydroxyphenyl groups; (ii) a hierarchical pore architecture that enhances mass transport and substrate accessibility; and (iii) strong adsorptive affinity for both LA and alcohol substrates. Under standardized 12 h batch reactions with an alcohol-to-LA molar ratio of 20 and 50 mg of catalyst, UiO-66(Zr)-0.25(OH)2 achieves LA conversions of 98.9, 97.9, 95.6, and 94.3% with methanol, ethanol, 1-propanol, and 1-butanol, respectively, while maintaining >99.9% selectivity for the corresponding products of alkyl levulinates at optimally tuned reaction temperatures (60, 70, 80, and 100 °C). This work establishes a practical and environmentally sustainable synthetic strategy for the rational design of functionalized metal–organic frameworks, enabling high-efficiency, heterogeneous catalysis in targeted reactions.
