Upon genotoxic stresses, cells employ various DNA damage responses (DDRs), including DNA damage repair or apoptosis, to safeguard genome integrity. However, the determinants among different DDRs choices are largely unknown. Here, we report angiopoietin-like protein 8 (ANGPTL8), a secreted regulator of lipid metabolism, localizes to the nucleus and acts as a dynamic switch that directs DDRs towards apoptosis rather than DNA repair after genotoxin exposure. ANGPTL8 deficiency alleviates DNA damage and apoptosis in cells exposed to genotoxins, as well as in the liver or kidney of mice injured by hepatic ischemia/reperfusion or cisplatin treatment. Mechanistically, ANGPTL8 physically interacts with Poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase 1 (PARP1), in a PARylation-independent manner, and reduces the fluidity of PARP1-DNA condensates, thereby enhancing the pro-apoptotic accumulation of PARP1 and PAR chains on DNA lesions. However, the transcription of ANGPTL8 is gradually decreased following genotoxin treatment, partly due to downregulation of CCAAT enhancer binding protein alpha (CEBPA), presumably to avoid further cytotoxicity. Together, we provide new insights by which genotoxic stress induced DDRs are channeled to suicidal apoptosis to safeguard genome integrity.

Zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) is a typical filler used to fabricate mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) on account of its attractive advantage of high selective permeability for gas separation. However, the performance is usually affected by filler aggregation due to strong interactions among fillers and weak interactions between the polymer and fillers, However, the performance is usually affected by filler aggregation due to strong interactions among fillers and weak interactions between the polymer and fillers, which will lead to a decrease of selectivity and the performance of gas separation will be strongly influenced. Herein, we modified ZIF-8 with 3-amino-1,2,4-triazole to obtain ZIF-8-NH 2 , Kapton polyamide acid was selected as the polymer matrix. Results showed that the ZIF-8-NH 2 /Kapton MMMs has a good compatibility interface between ZIF-8 and Kapton because of the covalent bridging, even the filler loading up to 45% (mass). The 45% (mass) of ZIF-8-NH 2 /Kapton membrane showed 297 barrer (1 barrer = 10 −10 cm 3 ·cm·cm −2 ·s –1 ·cmHg –1 , 1 cmHg = 1333.22 Pa, standard temperature and pressure) of the permeability of H 2 and 43.9 and 62.2 of selectivities for H 2 /N 2 and for H 2 /CH 4 , respectively, which are beyond the upper limit of Robeson 2008.

A hierarchical and hybrid nanocomposite of reduced graphene oxide/zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (RGO/ZIF-8) has been successfully fabricated by the RGO as template for the in situ growth of ZIF-8. The morphology and structure of the resulted RGO/ZIF-8 nanocomposite were characterized by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). It was demonstrated that ZIF-8 nanoparticles anchored and grew well on the surfaces of RGO. The electrocatalytic activity of the RGO/ZIF-8 towards the dopamine (DA) was investigated using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). The results demonstrated the fabricated RGO/ZIF-8 sensor exhibited high sensitivity for the determination of DA, owing to the synergistic effect from highly electrical conductivity of RGO and porosity of ZIF-8. Under the optimal conditions, the linear response range for DA was from 1.0 × 10 − 7 to 1.0 × 10 − 4 mol L − 1 and the detection limit of DA was estimated to be as low as 3 × 10 − 8 mol L − 1 . Moreover, the prepared electrochemical sensor also showed excellent selectivity for DA detection in the presence of ascorbic acid (AA) and prospective results in real samples detection.

Angiogenesis is pivotal for osteogenesis during bone regeneration. A hydrogel that promotes both angiogenesis and osteogenesis is essential in bone tissue engineering. However, creating scaffolds with the ideal balance of biodegradability, osteogenic, and angiogenic properties poses a challenge. Thymosin beta 10 (TMSB10), known for its dual role in angiogenesis and osteogenesis differentiation, faces limitations due to protein activity preservation. To tackle this issue, ZIF-8 was engineered as a carrier for TMSB10 (TMSB10@ZIF-8), and subsequently integrated into the self-assembled sericin hydrogel. The efficacy of the composite hydrogel in bone repair was assessed using a rat cranial defect model. Characterization of the nanocomposites confirmed the successful synthesis of TMSB10@ZIF-8, with a TMSB10 encapsulation efficiency of 88.21 %. The sustained release of TMSB10 from TMSB10@ZIF-8 has significantly enhanced tube formation in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) in vitro and promoted angiogenesis in the chicken chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) model in vivo . It has markedly improved the osteogenic differentiation ability of MC 3 T3-E1 cells in vitro . 8 weeks post-implantation, the TMSB10@ZIF-8/ Sericin hydrogel group exhibited significant bone healing (86.77 ± 8.91 %), outperforming controls. Thus, the TMSB10@ZIF-8/Sericin hydrogel, leveraging ZIF-8 for TMSB10 delivery, emerges as a promising bone regeneration scaffold with substantial clinical application potential.

Environmental stimulus-responsive controlled-release nanopesticides have the ability to adapt to the specific microenvironment of pathogen outbreaks, which can improve pesticide utilization efficiency. A pH and redox dual-stimuli responsively controlled release system (ZIF-8@Hex@Fe/GA) using zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) as the support and metal-phenol complex (Fe-GA) as the capping agent was constructed to deliver hexaconazole (Hex) for management of Phomopsis sp. The ZIF-8@Hex@Fe/GA composite demonstrated a high loading capacity and effectively improved the light stability of Hex. The hydroxyl groups present in the composite facilitate its diffusion on kiwifruit leaves, improving wettability. Additionally, the large specific surface area of ZIF-8@Hex@Fe/GA provides resilience against rainwater scouring. This innovative system intelligently responds to the acidic and oxidizing conditions associated with Phomopsis sp. infections, ensuring targeted and controlled release of Hex. Bioactivity assessments revealed that ZIF-8@Hex@Fe/GA exhibited protective effects of 84.16 ± 3.37 % and 80.77 ± 2.08 % on kiwifruit fruits and leaves at a concentration of 100 mg/L, outperforming Hex emulsifiable concentrate (Hex EC) by 21.34 % and 25.39 %, respectively. The acute toxicity of ZIF-8@Hex@Fe/GA to zebrafish was reduced 9-fold compared to Hex EC. Furthermore, ZIF-8@Hex@Fe/GA showed high safety for HEK293 cells, with a cell survival rate of 81.59 ± 2.11 % after 72 h of 10 mg/L treatment, whereas the cell survival rate for Hex TC, treatment was only 1.79 ± 1.32 % after 72 h. In conclusion, ZIF-8@Hex@Fe/GA demonstrates significant potential for targeted pesticide delivery and environmental protection.

Graphical Polyethyleneimine (PEI)-templated ZIF-8 (PEI-ZIF-8) was synthesized and incorporated into the PEI aqueous solution, then interfacial polymerized with trimesoyl chloride (TMC) to obtain the PEI-ZIF-8 modified polyamide NF membrane. The optimal PEI-ZIF-8-TMC membrane exhibits a permeance of 9 L/h m 2 bar and a Mg 2+ /Li + separation factor (SF) of 19. MOFs-modified nanofiltration (NF) membranes have been gained a lot of attention due to their favorable permeability and ion separation performance. Nevertheless, the prevailing preparation techniques are afflicted by the incompatibility of MOFs with polymers and the facile loss of MOFs. In this work, polyethyleneimine (PEI)-templated ZIF-8 (PEI-ZIF-8) was synthesized and incorporated into the PEI aqueous solution, then interfacial polymerized with trimesoyl chloride (TMC) to obtain the PEI-ZIF-8 modified polyamide NF membrane. This PEI modified strategy could endow the ZIF-8 nanoparticles with positively charged properties to avoid the aggregation and increase the interfacial compatibility with the polyamide. Meanwhile, the appropriate pore size of ZIF-8 (3.4 Å), which is between the hydration sheath surrounding of Li + (2 Å) and Mg 2+ (4.2 Å) impart the membrane with precise Mg 2+ /Li + separation ability. The optimal PEI-ZIF-8-TMC membrane exhibits a permeance of 9 L/h m 2 bar and a Mg 2+ /Li + separation factor (SF) of 19, both of which surpass the performance of the pure PEI-TMC membrane, which has a permeance of 4 L/h m 2 bar and a Mg 2+ /Li + separation factor of 11. Meanwhile, the membrane exhibited excellent long-term stability of 85 h. This novel approach to preparing MOFs-modified NF membrane represents a promising avenue for the separation of lithium and magnesium.

Metal organic framework (MOF)-derived nanostructures display remarkable characteristics and have broad application potential. Os@ZIF-8 nanocomposites were prepared by a depositional method. The Os nanoparticles distributed on the surface of ZIF-8. The nanocomposites displayed enhanced peroxidase-like activity with smaller Km for both 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) and H2O2 compared to Os NPs due to the confinement effect and large surface area that ZIF-8 provided. From the average reaction rate constants obtained from three different temperatures, the activation energy values were determined. The kinetic data indicated that the Os@ZIF-8 NCs are catalytically more active than Os NPs. In addition, quantitative measurement of Hg2+ was performed based on the formation of Os–Hg alloy. Os@ZIF-8 NCs had a wide detection range between 0 μM and 71.43 μM for Hg2+ with a limit of detection (LOD) of 2.29 μM. Using a MOF with a large surface area to load Os nanoparticles to achieve enhanced nanozyme activity is the novelty of this work.

Formaldehyde and other harmful gases cause environmental pollution and threaten human health. Environment-friendly coatings is an effective strategy to address these environmental and health concerns. In this study, a large-scale amorphous photonic crystals (APC) based on modified ZIF-8 (H xh -ZIF-8) with photocatalytic degradation of formaldehyde and tunable structural color were designed for eco-friendly coatings by programmable smart manufacturing. As APC unit, H xh -ZIF-8 nanoparticles with controllable diameters were synthesized utilizing solvothermal method and the −N = C = O group was introduced with thermal oxidation. The results of photocatalytic degradation revealed that H 5h -ZIF-8, through thermal oxidation, exhibited a formaldehyde degradation rate 9.8 times than that of ZIF-8. The main reactive components in photocatalysis were holes (h + ) and superoxide radicals ( · O 2 – ), showcasing both stability and reproducibility. The color and brightness of the APC were adjusted by tuning the H xh -ZIF-8 diameter. The angle-independent APC ranging from red to purple were fabricated with 177, 165 and 235 nm H xh -ZIF-8 nanoparticles in various proportions with programmable smart manufacturing. In this study, a large-scale ZIF-8-based APC was designed with programmable smart manufacturing for environment-friendly coating, which combined environmental protection technology with structural color, and paved a new strategy for the development of multifunctional materials in air quality management.

ZIF-8 derived carbons demonstrate admirable application prospects in electrocatalytic fields, while ZnN x remaining in those materials are overlooked, crippling the validity of theoretic studies in researches. Herein, the residual Zn in ZIF-8 derived carbons are found could exceed 10 wt% even at carbonization temperatures over 900℃, and Zn-NCs with various Zn contents are adopted as supports to synthesize low-platinum ORR catalysts. Substantial characterizations manifest that ZnN x in Zn-NC can not only provide Zn source for L1 0 -PtZn intermetallic, but act as ‘spatial barriers’ to prevent the formation of inactive PtN x , elevating the active Pt proportion in catalyst by ∼104%. The resultant Zn-NC-Ar-PtZn exhibits a mass activity of 0.557 mA/g Pt and a peak density of 1.485 W/cm 2 . DFT calculations show the strong thermodynamic tendency of forming PtN 4 without the protection of ZnN 4 , and the superior durability and activity of Zn-NC-Ar-PtZn should be attributed to its Zn-derived ligand effects and the SMSI.

ZIF-8 as a typical metal–organic framework (MOF) is regarded as a promising adsorbent owing to its ultra-high specific surface area and well-defined porous architecture. Smaller-sized MOFs with more exposed active sites are conducive to the rapid and efficient adsorption of molecules. However, achieving precise nanoscale control of MOF particle sizes remains a challenge. Herein, we report a facile method to prepare uniform ZIF-8 nanoparticles with controllable sizes of 20–120 nm by high gravity technology in the rotating packed bed (RPB) reactor. Compared with the conventional stirred tank reactor (STR), the products prepared by RPB showed narrower size distribution and smaller particle size, with an average reduction of 30 %. The as-synthesized ZIF-8 nanoparticles demonstrated a pronounced size-dependent adsorption behavior for tetracycline in aqueous solutions. Particularly, 20 nm ZIF-8 nanoparticles exhibited the highest adsorption capacity of about 217 mg g −1 , surpassing both micro-sized ZIF-8 (189 mg g −1 ) and previously reported ZIF-8 and its composites. Moreover, the effects of adsorbent dosage, pH, temperature and coexisting ions on the adsorption performance were also investigated. A rational adsorption mechanism of TC adsorption over ZIF-8 nanoparticles was proposed. These findings are of great significance for selecting nano-absorbents with the appropriate size to achieve optimal adsorption in real-world use.

Systemic immunotoxicity caused by off-target activation is still a critical obstacle to clinical translation of imidazoquinoline (IMDQ) drugs, a kind of TLR7/8 agonists. Here, we present an ultrasound-responsive, azide-modified IMDQ nano-prodrug (IMDQ-N3 NPs) that enables spatiotemporally controlled activation through ultrasound, improving the selectivity and safety. Concomitantly, riboflavin-based sonosensitizers were co-delivery to these nanoparticles, increasing their local concentration surrounding the prodrug, achieving a 12.2-fold enhancement in the ultrasonic reduction rate of IMDQ-N3. In murine models, IMDQ-N3 NPs demonstrated no weight loss and negligible systemic inflammatory factor elevation relative to equivalent-dose unmodified IMDQ. Combined with ultrasound irradiation, IMDQ-N3 NPs demonstrated 35.2-fold higher tumor distribution of active drug compared to non-irradiated free IMDQ-N3, achieving 95.7% tumor suppression and 60% long-term survival. Flow cytometry analysis revealed enhanced dendritic cell maturation, cytotoxic T-cell infiltration, and durable immune memory. This work establishes a generalizable platform for precision delivery of immunostimulatory agents, addressing key translational challenges in cancer immunotherapy.

Fluorescence technology enabled highly sensitive, real-time and multi-scenario detection of lysozyme (Lys). However, fluorescent nanomaterials suffer from aggregation-induced quenching, environmental interference and lack of selective recognition capability. In this work, the ZIF-8 was used as a framework to support red and blue fluorescence quantum dots for constructing ratiometric fluorescence sensor. At the same time, combined with molecular imprinting technology, a Molecular Imprinting Polymers (MIPs)-based ratiometric fluorescence sensor was designed for improving the sensitive and selective. The MIPs-based ratiometric fluorescence sensor exhibited highly sensitively and selectively for the detection of lysozyme. Benefited from ratiometric design, the sensor could realize the effect of visual detection of Lys and the limit of detection (LOD) was reached 0.048 mg/L. The HPLC method was used to further confirm the sensor has the potential for practical application. Furthermore, to the demand of an affordable and portable strategy for visual detection Lys, a dexterous and inexpensive test paper was made in this work.
