Environmental-friendly recovery of critical metals from solid wastes directly for new energy materials received lots of concerns. In this paper, the FeMoO 4 (FMO) materials for new energy storage materials are directly prepared from spent hydrogenation catalysts by “low temperature sodium roasting-water leaching” process. The leaching rates after roasting of main metal element Mo, Al and Ni from wastes are: 91.8 %, 1.7 % and 0.1 %, respectively, then the leachate was directly generated Al-doped FMO materials (Mo/Al = 50:1). As for the application of lithium ion battery anode, the specific capacity is 363.5 mAh/g after 200 cycles, 55 % improvement compared with bare FMO. The tunable phase transformation by roasting temperature regulation is the core to achieve the selective water leaching of Mo, and the intrinsic mechanism have been investigated by calculation and experiments. Finally, the economic evaluation of the whole process shows that for every 1 kg of spent catalyst processed and made into FMO, a profit of $20.8 can be obtained, indicating promising economic benefits. This process provides an environmental technology route for the development of new energy industries under carbon neutrality goals.

A new type of bimetallic palladium and aluminum incorporated mobile crystalline materials (Pd–Al-MCM-41) as bifunctional catalysts has been hydrothermally synthesized. Characterization shows that these molecular materials exhibit an ordered mesoporous structure, high surface area and a good dispersion of palladium in the frame. The catalytic activity of the Pd–Al-MCM-41 for the dimerization–hydrogenation reaction system of β-pinene in one pot has been systematically studied. Pd0.5–Al30-MCM-41 (SiO2/Al2O3 = 30, 0.5 wt% palladium content) was found to be the best catalyst which gave a dimer yield of up to 64.7%. It is worth noting that palladium shows a good synergic catalytic effect with aluminum in the dimerization reaction and enhances the dimerization yield. Furthermore, the bifunctional catalyst displayed a good activity over 4 runs.

In this study, we reported a new method to fabricate superhydrophobic Al films by combination of HCl/H 2 O 2 etching and electrophoretic deposition process. Through this two-step method, multi-scale hierarchical structures were successfully introduced on the surface. After hydrophobization, the resultant surface showed an excellent superhydrophobicity with a water contact angle of 169.6° and a sliding angle of ca. 1°. Furthermore, the surface exhibited excellent mechanical durability and could withstand abrasion tests under 8 kPa for 60 cm without losing superhydrophobicity. It also maintained superhydrophobicity when exposed to air or water for a long-term period. This work provides a cost efficient method to prepare mechanically robust and stable superhydrophobic Al alloy surface.

Achieving both low dielectric loss (tan δ ) and high temperature stability of ceramic capacitors can greatly broaden their potential application. In this study, the effects of Mg and Al co-substitution on the microstructure and dielectric properties of CCTO-based ceramics were investigated in CaCu 3- x Mg x Ti 4- x Al x O 12 ( x = 0, 0.025, 0.050, and 0.075) ceramics prepared by a sol-gel method. XRD analysis shows that the primary crystalline phase of CCTO is formed in all samples, indicating that Mg 2 + and Al 3+ have entered the lattice. SEM results reveal the co-substitution of Mg and Al inhibits the grain growth, leading to an increase in grain boundary density. All co-substituted samples exhibited low tan δ and excellent temperature stability. Notably, CaCu 2.95 Mg 0.05 Ti 3.95 Al 0.05 O 12 ceramics exhibited an extremely low tan δ of 0.007 (at 10 3 Hz) and its dielectric constant maintained excellent stability over a broad temperature spectrum (−125 to 150 °C), meeting the commercial standards for X8P capacitors. The reduction of tan δ is mainly attributed to the inhibition of grain growth in Mg and Al co-substituted samples, which increases grain boundary density and subsequently suppresses the mobility of oxygen vacancies, leading to an increase in grain boundary resistance. Furthermore, the improvement in temperature stability is ascribed to the reduction in the content of oxygen vacancies and the suppression of electron transitions between Ti 4+ and Ti 3+ as well as Cu 2+ and Cu + in Mg and Al co-substituted samples, resulting in an increase in grain boundary activation energy. These novel findings are hoping to contribute to not only the fabrication of new CCTO-based ceramics with extremely low tanδ and excellent temperature stability but also the application of CCTO-based ceramics at a very broad temperature range in electronic devices, new energy vehicles, aerospace, and polar scientific research equipment.

The hydrogenation of CO2to methanol over Cu-based catalysts is one of the attractive routes to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and generate high-value-added chemicals. Industrial CuZnAl catalysts possess some shortcomings, but various promoters can enhance the activity and durability of Cu-based catalysts for CO2hydrogenation. Herein, we systematically investigated the variations in the physicochemical properties of ternary CuZnM (M: Cr, Ce, Zr, Al) catalysts induced by different promoters, as well as their impact on CO2hydrogenation to methanol. The results demonstrate that the catalytic activity followed the order of CZCr > CZCe > CZZr > CZAl, with CZCr exhibiting the highest stability among them. Combined with XRD, SEM, TEM, H2-TPR, TPD, XPS, Raman findings and the experimental results, the smaller Cu particle size was conducive to increasing the CH3OH yield, and the lower Cu+/Cu0ratio exhibited better stability in CO2hydrogenation to methanol reaction. This approach offers theoretical insights and practical solutions for the industrial application of ternary Cu-based catalysts.

To ensure the sustainable development of the nuclear industry, the effective capture of radioiodine from nuclear wastewater has attracted much attention. Herein, a novel MIL-88A(Al)/chitosan/graphene oxide (MCG) composite aerogel was prepared by using crosslinked chitosan and graphene oxide as the 3D network skeleton, and MIL-88A(Al) nanocrystalline particles were introduced into the skeleton by freeze-drying method. MIL-88A(Al) adsorption capacities for volatile and soluble iodine were 2.02 g g −1 and 850.00 mg g −1 , respectively. Owing to the synergistic effect of MIL-88A(Al), GO, CS, and the hierarchically porous structures of the MCG aerogel, the adsorption capacities for volatile and soluble iodine by the MCG aerogel were increased to 2.62 g g −1 and 1072.60 mg g −1 , respectively. Furthermore, the adsorption performance of the MCG aerogel for volatile and soluble iodine could be maintained at 83 % and 82 % after 5 cycles, suggesting excellent recoverability. Meanwhile, the adsorption mechanism studies showed the interactions between iodine and N H, Al O, and C O in MCG aerogel. Furthermore, the adsorption process is consistent with the Elovich kinetic and Sips isotherm models. MCG aerogels are potential candidates for enhanced radioiodine adsorption due to their high radioiodine capture performance and excellent recyclability.

The integration of composite energetic films (CEFs) with various types of initiators can effectively adjust their performance and represents potential applications in microscale energy-demanding systems. In this study, the Al/Bi 2 O 3 /graphene oxide (GO) CEFs were successfully integrated into copper micro-ignitors by electrophoretic deposition, a low-cost and time-saving method. The effects of the Al/Bi 2 O 3 /GO CEFs with different GO contents on exothermic performance and ignition properties of micro-ignitors were then systematically investigated in terms of heat release, activation energy, ignition duration, the maximum height of the ignition product, and ignition delay time. The results showed that the addition of GO promoted more heat releases and higher activation energies of Al/Bi 2 O 3 /GO CEFs. The addition of ≤3.5 wt. % GO prolonged the ignition duration from 450 μ s to 950 μ s and increased the maximum height of the ignition product from about 40 mm to 60 mm. However, the micro-ignitors with more than 3.5 wt. % GO cannot be ignited, which suggested that GO played a contradictory role in the ignition properties of micro-ignitors and the controlled GO content was a prerequisite for improved ignition performance. The ignition delay time gradually extended from 10.7 μ s to 27.6 μ s with increases in the GO contents of Al/Bi 2 O 3 CEFs, revealing that an increase in the weight ratio of GO leads to lower ignition sensitivity of micro-ignitors.

In this study, different acid-modified Co–Al catalysts were prepared and employed for glycerol hydrogenolysis by the addition of B, Ce, Zr, and heteropolyacids (HSiW, HPW, HPMo) to Co–Al catalysts. The catalysts prepared in this work were thoroughly examined by various characterization methods such as BET, ICP, SEM, H2 chemisorption, TEM, XRD, H2-TPR, NH3-TPD, XPS, and FTIR. The results showed an increase in the acid strength and Co dispersion on the catalytic surface for the modified Co–Al catalysts. This facilitated the conversion of glycerol. When ethanol was used as a solvent, the selectivity of 1,2-propanediol (1,2-PDO) by the acid-modified Co–Al catalysts decreased slightly, attributable to the enhanced etherification activity of glycerol with ethanol. However, when water was used as a solvent, the modified Co–Al catalyst with the B, Ce, and Zr species increased the selectivity of 1,2-PDO. Addition of heteropolyacids to the Co–Al catalyst enhanced the selectivity of 1,3-propanediol (1,3-PDO) as compared to 1,2-PDO selectivity which was relatively low due to its association with Brønsted acid sites on the modified Co–Al catalysts. The optimal HSiW/Co–Al catalyst (in terms of both 1,2- and 1,3-PDO selectivity) showed 76.3% glycerol conversion and 18.3% 1,3-PDO selectivity with a good stability. This could be attributed to the existence of well-dispersed Co particles with strong interaction between Co and W species.

Complete oxidation of propane has drawn great attention in the fields of automotive emission control and volatile organic compound elimination. However, it is challenging to achieve high activity of this reaction due to the stability of propane. We here utilize a facile solvothermal method to construct tri-coordinated Al (AlIII) sites on the as-synthesized ST-Al2O3 support to alter the properties of supported Pt species. It is demonstrated that AlIII sites facilitate the dispersion and electron enrichment of supported Pt sites. Thus, Pt/ST-Al2O3 exhibits a superior activity toward complete propane oxidation, showing a 6.7-fold improvement in the turnover frequency over commercial Pt/Al2O3 catalysts. Meanwhile, Pt/ST-Al2O3 possesses a distinct reaction route originating from its stronger C–H and C–C cleavage capability, while having excellent activity not only in complete propane oxidation but also in the complete oxidation of other alkanes (CH4, C2H6, and n-C4H10). In addition, the AlIII construction strategy is successfully extended to more cases, e.g., Pd/ST-Al2O3 with higher Pd dispersion and electron density. This work provides a promising strategy for the control of the oxide support for advanced design and synthesis of alkane oxidation catalysts.

Metal oxides@metal–organic framework (MOFs)-based core/shell nanostructures demonstrate promising potential in catalytic hydrogenations. However, the direct nucleation and growth of MOFs on the topologically diverse surfaces of metal oxides face significant challenges due to the high interfacial energy resulting from topological mismatches. Herein, we present a facile in situ growth strategy for directly assembling an MIL-53(Al) layer on the surface of CeO2 nanospheres at low temperatures by mixing and stirring CeO2 nanospheres and MIL-53(Al) precursors without requiring sacrificial templates or additional surface modifications. Moreover, key factors such as reaction time, temperature, and the types of aluminum salts and ligands are systematically explored to comprehensively understand the nucleation behavior of MOFs shells. Notably, when active Pt nanoparticles are sandwiched between the CeO2 core and the MIL-53(Al) shell, the MIL-53(Al) effectively stabilizes the Pt nanoparticles and enhances the selectivity of hydrocinnamaldehyde in cinnamaldehyde hydrogenation. CeO2/Pt@MIL-53(Al) achieved more than twice the selectivity for HCAL compared to CeO2/Pt and even outperformed Pt/MIL-53(Al). Undoubtedly, this study provides distinctive insights into the nucleation and growth mechanisms of MOFs on metal oxides, expands the strategies for fabricating metal oxides@MOFs core/shell nanostructure, and proposes innovative ideas and possibilities for broadening the application domains of MOFs-based materials.

Nickle-based catalysts are commonly used for CO 2 methanation. However, there is still potential to improve their catalytic performance under mild conditions. In this study, we synthesized a series of Ru-Ni-Al catalysts from Ru-doped NiAl-hydrotalcite using a hydrothermal method. The Ru-Ni-Al catalyst demonstrated much higher activity for CO 2 methanation than the Ni-Al catalyst that did not have Ru doping. Both experimental results and theoretical calculations indicate that the enhanced performance of the Ru-Ni-Al catalyst is related to electronic interactions between nickel (Ni) and ruthenium (Ru). The Ru sites transfer electrons to the Ni sites, increasing the local electron density of Ni, which enhances the adsorption and activation of H 2 . Furthermore, the Ru-Ni metal interface sites improve the adsorption and activation of CO 2 . In situ Diffuse Reflectance Infrared Fourier Transform Spectroscopy (DRIFTS) analysis indicates that adjusting the electronic structure of Ni sites can accelerate the production of intermediates HCOO*, while Ru-Ni intermetallic interface sites can directly dissociate CO 2 into CO*. In addition, CO 2 methanation on the Ru-Ni-Al catalyst follows HCOO*- and CO*-mediated pathways. This study underscores the potential for enhancing CO 2 methanation performance by modulating the electronic structure of Ni sites.

Ge-containing Lewis acidic zeolites are typically synthesized using a conventional hydrothermal strategy from amorphous silica sources, through a long time- and energy-consuming approach limiting their wide applications. This study reports a rapid synthesis strategy for a series of IWV aluminogermanosilicate zeolites ( T- x -Al ) with a wide range of Si/Ge molar ratios (5–15) by interzeolite transformation of dealuminated FAU (DA-FAU). Notably, Ge-rich IWV could be obtained with crystallization time as short as one day by the equimolecular Si/Ge ratio gel. The effect of synthetic parameters was investigated and the obtained T- x -Al samples were characterized by XRD, SEM, EDS, ICP, 29 Si and 27 Al MAS NMR, FTIR, and N 2 physisorption analyses. Compared with a previously reported IWV germanosilicate (H-3), T- x -Al displayed a better catalytic activity in Baeyer-Villiger (BV) oxidation, attributed to the presence of the active framework Ge sites with the assistance of the extra-framework Al species. The cyclic catalysis tests revealed that the presence of framework Al species contributed to the stability of the T- x -Al . Specifically, T- x -Al , with 14-membered ring (MR) supercages, outperformed the typical 12-MR Sn-beta catalyst in the BV oxidation of large ketone-like 2-admantanone, indicating a promising potential application in the macromolecular catalytic process.
