We developed a layered composite with directional distributed reduced graphene oxide (RGO) in a copper matrix through a double-slot multi-step electrodeposition method, playing to the advantage of in-plane thermal conductivity of RGO. The resulting RGO/Cu composite has superior thermal conductivity up to 545 W m −1 K −1 (150% of copper), which was determined by the growth behavior of the RGO flake on the copper substrate through adjusting electrodeposition time. By analyzing the structure, distribution status and its relationship with thermal conductivity, three factors including of structural integrity of RGO, thermal conduction network and interfacial effect between RGO layers were proposed. With the increase of deposition time, the restoration of RGO lattice structure and the formation of a complete thermal conduction network both promoted the phonon transmission, which was beneficial to the improvement of thermal conductivity. The multi-layer stacking of RGO, however, could generate the interlayer interfacial effects, resulting in the phonon scattering and unfavorable to the thermal conductivity. Therefore, proper adjustment of RGO deposition time resulted in excellent thermal conductivity of RGO/Cu composite, meeting the demands for the heat dissipation performance of the instrument.

Polydopamine nanoparticles (PDA NPs) are an appealing biomimetic photothermal agent for photothermal antibacterial treatment because of their long-term safety, excellent photostability, accessible manufacturing, and good biodegradability. However, the low photothermal conversion efficiency (PCE) of PDA NPs requires high-power and long-term near-infrared light irradiation, which severely restricts their practical application. In this work, [email protected] NPs were fabricated by growing Cu NPs in situ on the surface of PDA and then introduced into a polyelectrolyte hydrogel precursor (cationic polyethyleneimine/anionic pectin, named as CPAP). The formulated photothermal platform possessed a high PCE (55.4%), almost twice as much as pure PDA NPs (30.8%). Moreover, the designed CPAP/ [email protected] captured and killed some bacteria by electrostatic adsorption, which helped enhance the antibacterial performance. As expected, the formed CPAP/ [email protected] that combined the advantageous features of [email protected] NPs (high PCE) and CPAP matrix (inherent antibacterial activity and preventing NPs aggregation) can efficiently kill bacteria both in vitro and in vivo under the help of near-infrared laser irradiation. Taken together, this study offers a promising strategy for constructing a facile and safe PDA-based photothermal agent for photothermal antibacterial therapy.

The combination of Cu and Ag presents a promising way to steer the CO2 reduction products through regulating the surface active sites. However, the difficulty in forming the CuAg alloy with a controllable atomic ratio impedes the in-depth understanding of the structure–activity relationship of CuAg catalysts. Herein, we use E-beam evaporation to synthesize a series of CuAg films with uniform distribution and controllable stoichiometry to reveal the real reaction mechanism on CuAg for the electrochemical CO2 reduction process. Compared with Cu, the Cu1–xAgx (x = 0.05–0.2) alloy showed an apparent suppression of HCOOH and the ratio between C2 liquid products (e.g., ethanol and acetate) and C1 liquid product (HCOOH) is also increased. Operando synchrotron radiation Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy results suggest that the introduction of Ag into the Cu phase can significantly strengthen the absorbed *CO and *OCCO intermediates and suppress the O–C–O intermediates. This research provides a reliable way to inhibit the generation of HCOOH and enhance the production of liquid C2 products during CO2RR and presents a guideline for the future manipulation of copper catalysts by alloying.

The development of metal–organic framework (MOF) materials with multifunctionalities has boosted their prospects in the fields of spintronics and optoelectronics. However, incorporating magnetic and optoelectronic properties in MOF materials remains challenging. Herein, the in situ synthesis of Cu-MOF-74, a typical one-dimensional linear magnet, is systematically investigated, which shows ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic interactions along the axial chain direction, and overall tilted antiferromagnetism at low temperatures. In particular, the introduction of SnS:Co quantum dots (QDs) enhances the antiferromagnetic coupling, which increases the phase transition temperature of the MOF from 7.8 K to 275 K at 1000 Oe. In addition, it is demonstrated that Cu-MOF-74 possesses both magnetic and optoelectronic properties. It is found that the responsivity and detectivity of the Cu-MOF-74 photodetector are both significantly improved by the SnS:Co QDs. This research provides promising methods for concurrent improvement of the magnetic and optoelectronic properties of MOF materials, advancing in-depth research on the MOF film as a new type of semiconductor for spintronic and optoelectronic devices.

Electrochemical CO 2 reduction reaction (CO 2 RR) is a promising strategy for waste CO 2 utilization and intermittent electricity storage. Herein, it is reported that bimetallic Cu/Pd catalysts with enhanced *CO affinity show a promoted CO 2 RR performance for multi-carbon (C2+) production under industry-relevant high current density. Especially, bimetallic Cu/Pd-1% catalyst shows an outstanding CO 2 -to-C2+ conversion with 66.2% in Faradaic efficiency (FE) and 463.2 mA cm −2 in partial current density. An increment in the FE ratios of C2+ products to CO for Cu/Pd-1% catalyst further illuminates a preferable C2+ production. In situ Raman spectra reveal that the atop-bounded CO is dominated by low-frequency band CO on Cu/Pd-1% that leads to C2+ products on bimetallic catalysts, in contrast to the majority of high-frequency band CO on Cu that favors the formation of CO. Density function theory calculation confirms that bimetallic Cu/Pd catalyst enhances the *CO adsorption and reduces the Gibbs free energy of the C C coupling process, thereby favoring the formation of C2+ products.

Herein, a twistable and tailorable NH 3 sensor utilizing hollow porous Cu-doped SnO 2 @PANI (PCS) composite was assembled on a flexible non-woven fabric substrate by in-situ polymerization technique and its gas sensing performance was tested at room temperature (∼25 °C). The results indicated that the well-designed PCS sensor to 50 ppm NH 3 exhibited six times higher response (25.4) than the pristine PANI sensor (4.5). The PCS flexible sensor still possessed a response (1.53) for 10 ppb NH 3 , and the detection limit could reach 5.2 ppb for NH 3 . Meanwhile, the PCS flexible sensor demonstrated excellent flexibility with response decreases of only 1.97 % after 1000 times bending (120°), and 2.11 % after 100 times folding (150°) and long-term stability through 42 days of monitoring (maintaining 98.4 % response). Furthermore, the PCS sensor displayed insensitivity to relative humidity (20 % − 75 % RH), and the low sensing temperature could reach − 15 °C. The enhanced sensing performance of the PCS sensor was attributed to the synergistic effect of the vital role of abundant oxygen vacancy and − OH groups, as well as the hollow porous interconnected structure and the p-n heterojunction between Cu-doped SnO 2 and PANI. This work provides more opportunities to design smart wearable devices for detecting ppb-level NH 3 at room temperature.

Flexible carbon tube films for electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding are assembled by mixing the well-aligned Cu@C core-shell nanocubes with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). The Cu@C core-shell nanocubes are achieved by the thermal pyrolysis of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) coating on Cu 2 O nanocubes. With the optimal PVP concentration of 1.5 mg/mL, the Cu@C/MWCNTs composite film with ultra-thin thickness (52.2 μm) displays good conductivity of 12.5 S cm −1 and excellent specific EMI shielding value of 510.73 dB mm −1 , which is higher than the pure MWCNTs film (439.50 dB mm −1 ) under the same weight condition. Moreover, the 1.5 mg/mL-Cu@C/MWCNTs composite film exhibits highly mechanical repeatability after being bended for 10,000 cycles. The carbon layers protecting metal nanoparticles can partly replace precious carbon nanotubes to construction highly flexible composite film with anticipated electrical conductivity, which have a good application prospect for thin, lightweight and flexible EMI shielding fields. In this paper, a novel colorimetric strategy based on iodide ion (I−) and Cu-MOF catalysis was developed for simple, low-cost, and naked-eye detection of Fe3+. Both I− and MOFs display catalytic activity toward peroxidase substrate 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB). Adsorption and embedding of I− in Cu-MOF generates Cu-MOF/I with a three-dimensional porous structure that exhibits higher specific surface area, providing more active sites to facilitate interaction with TMB, resulting in enhanced catalytic efficiency. Reports have shown that Fe3+ can oxidize TMB in the absence of H2O2. We found that as Fe3+ concentration increases, the color of the system gradually deepens and the UV absorption peak gradually increases, thus providing a colorimetric sensor for quantitative Fe3+ detection. The detection limit (LOD) obtained in the presence of I− is 200 nM; however, in the absence of I−, the LOD is approx. 10 μM. Thus, the sensing system is ideal for signal amplified analysis of Fe3+. In the presence of various interfering metal ions, the developed sensing system displays excellent selectivity. Additionally, the practical application to Fe3+ detection in real samples is explored.

Cadmium ions (Cd 2+ ) are one of the highly poisonous heavy metal ions in the environment, but at present, the detection of Cd 2+ on the market has the disadvantages of complex operation, high detection cost and slow detection speed, so it is urgent to develop rapid and sensitive detection platforms for detecting Cd 2+ . In this study, a novel electrochemical sensor (g-C 3 N 4 /CuNps) was successfully fabricated. g-C 3 N 4 /CuNps composite has a large and unique surface area that is beneficial to the adsorption and preconcentration of Cd 2+ . The experiment parameters such as deposition potential, deposition time, pH of supporting electrolyte, supporting electrolyte, the amount of g-C 3 N 4 /CuNps being coated on the GCE, were optimized. Under the optimized conditions, the electrochemical performances of g-C 3 N 4 /CuNps composites modified sensor have been investigated, which shows excellent wider linear range and lower detection limit (0.098 nM). The linear ranges of Cd 2+ detections were 1-100µgL -1 . Moreover, the sensor shows desirable stability, selectivity, and reproducibility for detecting Cd 2+ . For real water samples, the sensor has a satisfactory recovery rate, indicating that the sensor could be successfully applied in the determination of Cd 2+ in environmental water. Therefore, the designed sensor provides a potential simple and low cost material for electrochemical detection of Cd 2+ .

Electrochemical CO 2 reduction is a sustainable method for producing multicarbon alcohols. However, the selectivity of alcohols is limited owing to the favorable side reaction to convert the key intermediate of *CH 2 CHO into ethylene. This study describes the design of a Cu electrocatalyst with abundant step sites to suppress the deoxygenation of *CH 2 CHO to ethylene, thereby promoting alcohol production. A Faradic efficiency of 40.5% and partial current density of 56.3 mA/cm 2 for alcohols are achieved. Moreover, the alcohols/C 2 H 4 ratio in the products reaches approximately 2.2. In-situ infrared spectrum characterizations and theoretical calculations reveal that the step sites facilitate C–C coupling and direct the reaction pathway to promote the formation of alcohols by inhibiting the cleavage of the C–O bond in *CH 2 CHO. Therefore, the proposed strategy is efficient for designing active sites to steer reaction pathways in CO 2 electroreductions and produce alcohols.

Metal-sulfur batteries have received great attention for electrochemical energy storage due to high theoretical capacity and low cost, but their further development is impeded by low sulfur utilization, poor electrochemical kinetics, and serious shuttle effect of the sulfur cathode. To avoid these problems, herein, a triple-synergistic small-molecule sulfur cathode is designed by employing N, S co-doped hierarchical porous bamboo charcoal as a sulfur host in an aqueous Cu-S battery. Expect the enhanced conductivity and chemisorption induced by N, S synergistic co-doping, the intrinsic synergy of macro-/meso-/microporous triple structure also ensures space-confined small-molecule sulfur as high utilization reactant and effectively alleviates the volume expansion during conversion reaction. Under a further joint synergy between hierarchical structure and heteroatom doping, the resulting sulfur cathode endows the Cu-S battery with outstanding electrochemical performance. Cycled at 5 A g−1, it can deliver a high reversible capacity of 2,509.8 mAh g−1 with a good capacity retention of 97.9% after 800 cycles. In addition, a flexible hybrid pouch cell built by a small-molecule sulfur cathode, Zn anode, and gel electrolytes can firmly deliver high average operating voltage of about 1.3 V with a reversible capacity of over 2,500 mAh g−1 under various destructive conditions, suggesting that the triple-synergistic small-molecule sulfur cathode promises energetic metal-sulfur batteries.

In this study, non-thermal plasma (NTP) was employed to modify the Cu/TiO 2 adsorbent to efficiently purify H 2 S in low-temperature and micro-oxygen environments. The effects of Cu loading amounts and atmospheres of NTP treatment on the adsorption-oxidation performance of the adsorbents were investigated. The NTP modification successfully boosted the H 2 S removal capacity to varying degrees, and the optimized adsorbent treated by air plasma (Cu/TiO 2 -Air) attained the best H 2 S breakthrough capacity of 113.29 mg H 2 S/g adsorbent , which was almost 5 times higher than that of the adsorbent without NTP modification. Further studies demonstrated that the superior performance of Cu/TiO 2 -Air was attributed to increased mesoporous volume, more exposure of active sites (CuO) and functional groups (amino groups and hydroxyl groups), enhanced Ti-O-Cu interaction, and the favorable ratio of active oxygen species. Additionally, the X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) results indicated the main reason for the deactivation was the consumption of the active components (CuO) and the agglomeration of reaction products (CuS and SO 4 2− ) occupying the active sites on the surface and the inner pores of the adsorbents.
