A novel pH-responsive sandwich-type electrochemiluminescence immunosensor was successfully developed for the detection of avian leukosis virus subgroup J (ALV-J). The immunosensor consisted of graphene oxide functionalized with tannic acid (rGO-TA) and primary antibodies (Ab 1 ) as the main ALV-J sensing platform. For signal amplification , pH-responsive hollow MnO 2 (hMnO 2 ) nanospheres encapsulating Ru(bpy) 3 Cl 2 and carrying secondary antibodies (Ab 2 ) were employed. Under optimal conditions, the immunosensor exhibited a wide ALV-J detection range of 10 1.80 to 10 4.30 TCID 50 /mL (TCID 50 : 50% tissue culture infective dose) and a low detection limit of 10 1.71 TCID 50 /mL (S/N = 3). Importantly, the immunosensor showed high sensitivity, good reproducibility and excellent operational stability. Finally, the immunosensor was evaluated using a real avian serum sample containing ALV-J, with excellent results being achieved.

Developing efficient catalysts for the dehydrogenation of ammonia borane (AB) is important for the safe storage and controlled release of hydrogen, but it is a challenging task. In this study, we designed a robust Ru-Co 3 O 4 catalyst using the Mott-Schottky effect to induce favorable charge rearrangement. The self-created electron-rich Co 3 O 4 and electron-deficient Ru sites at heterointerfaces are indispensable for the activation of the B-H bond in NH 3 BH 3 and the O H bond in H 2 O, respectively. The synergistic electronic interaction between the electron-rich Co 3 O 4 and electron-deficient Ru sites at the heterointerfaces resulted in an optimal Ru-Co 3 O 4 heterostructure that exhibited outstanding catalytic activity for the hydrolysis of AB in the presence of NaOH. The heterostructure had an extremely high hydrogen generation rate (HGR) of 12238 mL min −1 g cat -1 and an expected high turnover frequency (TOF) of 755 mol H2 mol Ru -1 min −1 at 298 K. The activation energy needed for the hydrolysis was low (36.65 kJ mol −1 ). This study opens up a new avenue for the rational design of high-performance catalysts for AB dehydrogenation based on the Mott-Schottky effect.

Graphical Photocatalytic H 2 O 2 evolution : A new P-doped carbon nitride loaded with ruthenium single atoms and clusters was successfully synthesized by photoreduction method. It has exhibited an excellent photocatalytic activity toward H 2 O 2 evolution. This study surmounts people‘s understanding that precious metal loading is not conducive to H 2 O 2 selectivity and provides ideas for the design of extremely active and stable single-atom and clusters. Photocatalytic H 2 O 2 evolution via two-electron oxygen reduction is a promising path for renewable and on-the-spot H 2 O 2 production compared with the traditional anthraquinone method. However, the efficiency of photocatalytic production of H 2 O 2 is usually very low. Herein, P-doped carbon nitride loaded with ruthenium single atoms and clusters (Ru atom /P-CN) is reported as an efficient photocatalyst for H 2 O 2 production. The yield of H 2 O 2 over Ru atom /P-CN (385.8 mmol g −1 h −1 ) is about 4.3 times higher than that of P-CN (88.9 mmol g −1 h −1 ) and 3.6 times higher than that of ruthenium nanoparticles loaded P-CN (105.9 mmol g −1 h −1 ). Further mechanistic study indicates that the presence of Ru in the form of single atoms and clusters not only improves the separation efficiency of photogenerated carriers and inhibits the recombination of photogenerated electron-hole pairs, but also increases the reactive sites of this catalytic system. This study breaks through people‘s understanding that precious metal loading is not conducive to H 2 O 2 selectivity and provides a new way to prepare low-metal loading, high-activity photocatalysts for H 2 O 2 production.

The development of efficient and robust electrocatalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in alkaline media is essential for sustainable hydrogen production, yet remains challenging due to sluggish kinetics and insufficient active sites. Herein, this paper fabricates a ruthenium doped NiCoP nanowire arrays on nickel foam (Ru-NiCoP/NF) through a tailored hydrothermal etching phosphorization route. The introduced Ru not only modulates the electronic structure of NiCoP, optimizing the hydrogen adsorption free energy, but also induces a controlled etching effect that preserves a three dimensional flower like nanoarchitecture, thereby exposing abundant accessible active sites and facilitating mass/charge transport. As a result, the Ru NiCoP/NF electrode achieves outstanding alkaline HER performance, requiring an ultralow overpotential of 55 mV at 10 mA cm −2 , delivering a Tafel slope of 77.6 mV·dec −1 , and maintaining remarkable stability over 120 h of continuous operation. This work demonstrates a rational design strategy that couples targeted doping with morphological engineering to advance high performance transition metal phosphide electrocatalysts for energy conversion applications.

Ethyl 3-piperidine-carboxylate is an important intermediate in the pharmaceutical field. To break through the limitations of poor mechanical strength and thermal stability of catalysts and low catalytic efficiency of foam ceramic carriers due to the lack of active sites in traditional synthesis, this study used the hydrogenation synthesis of ethyl nicotinate to produce this intermediate as the probe reaction. Pd-Ni/Ru-Al 2 O 3 -SiO 2 foam ceramic catalysts were prepared by the sol-gel method and the impregnation method. Relying on the bimetallic differentiated synergistic effect of Ni, Ru, and Pd, the above technical bottlenecks were overcome. A variety of characterization techniques reveal its core mechanism of action: Pd serves as the catalytic core, and Ni can optimize the electronic structure, enabling the Pd-Ni alloy to obtain the optimal d-band center and adsorption energy, laying an electronic foundation for efficient catalysis. Ru can precisely control the particle size of Pd-Ru alloy, which is 4.5 nm smaller than that of single-metal Pd, significantly improving the metal dispersion and the utilization rate of active sites. The three-dimensional network structure of foam ceramics enhances mass transfer efficiency. The γ-Al 2 O 3 -SiO 2 coating provides abundant active sites and excellent stability. The catalytic performance of this system has been significantly enhanced. Among them, the yield of the corresponding product of the Pd-Ni bimetallic catalyst reached 92.57%, and it still remained above 80% after five cycles of use, providing new prospects for the green and efficient synthesis of ethyl 3-piperidine-carboxylic acid esters and the development of low-cost hydrogenation catalysts. Valorization
of nitrous oxide (N 2 O), a potent greenhouse
gas, through cooperative reforming with light alkanes offers a promising
route toward carbon-negative hydrogen production. Here, we report
a Ru 1+n /ZnO catalyst that integrates isolated ruthenium
single atoms (Ru 1 ) with subnanometre ruthenium nanoparticles
(Ru n ), enabling cascade N 2 O valorization coupled
with propane dry reforming. The catalyst reduces noble-metal cost
by ∼70% compared with Ir-based benchmarks while delivering
markedly enhanced hydrogen production (145.1 mol H 2 kg cat –1 h –1 ) together with
stable operation for at least 72 h. Mechanistic studies reveal that
densely anchored Ru 1 sites in close proximity to Ru n electronically modulate the nanoparticles toward a more metallic
state, promoting hydrocarbon activation. Meanwhile, CH x * intermediates formed on Ru n are rapidly
consumed through reforming with O* species generated on satellite
Ru 1 via N 2 O activation, enabling an efficient
cascade reaction pathway that suppresses side reactions and enhances
hydrogen generation. This work demonstrates a cooperative single-atom–nanoparticle
catalytic strategy for greenhouse-gas valorization and efficient hydrogen
production, providing insights into the rational design of multifunctional
reforming catalysts.

Photocatalytic water splitting is a promising approach for sustainable green hydrogen production, but its practical deployment is severely hindered by two critical limitations: mandatory H 2 /O 2 separation and the requirement for high-pressure hydrogen storage facilities. To address this long-standing bottleneck, a Ru-TiO 2 /Ti 2 C heterostructured photocatalyst is fabricated via a combined hydrothermal and ball-milling route. Operando spectroscopy and DFT calculations verify a cascade charge and hydrogen transfer pathway: photogenerated electrons migrate from TiO 2 to metallic Ru sites to drive water dissociation into surface H* intermediates, which then spillover onto the Ti 2 C substrate. Owing to the strong atomic hydrogen affinity of Ti 2 C, accumulated H* is immobilized in the Ti 2 C lattice via Ti-H covalent bonds, achieving in-situ atmospheric-pressure hydrogen storage. The optimized composite exhibits an in-situ hydrogen storage capacity of 2.1 wt% at ambient temperature and pressure, with a markedly reduced desorption temperature of 216°C and excellent cycling durability. This work establishes an integrated paradigm of photocatalytic water splitting and low-pressure hydrogen storage, offering a feasible strategy to resolve the inherent H 2 /O 2 separation dilemma and advance the practical application of solar-driven hydrogen production.

Photothermal conversion of CO 2 to methane offers a promising pathway for simultaneous carbon recycling and renewable energy storage. To date, Ni-based catalysts dominate CO 2 methanation. However, their low-temperature activity under photothermal conditions still requires improvement. MTiO 2 derived from Ti 3 C 2 MXene retains its two-dimensional (2D) layered structure and excellent photothermal conversion properties. Herein, we synthesized Ru-Ni@MTiO 2 catalysts through hydrothermal treatment of Ni-impregnated MTiO 2 with controlled Ru loading ( x = 1, 3 and 5 wt%). The optimal 3Ru-Ni@MTiO 2 catalyst achieved a CH 4 production rate of 86.25 mmol·g −1 ·h −1 at 300 °C, which is 1.3-fold higher than that of the Ru-free Ni@MTiO 2 counterpart. The superior catalytic performance stems from the synergistic electronic effect between Ni and Ru and their dual-site cooperation. Electron transfer from both Ru and MTiO 2 to Ni sites elevates the electron density of metallic Ni, which weakens the H-H bond and accelerates the dissociative adsorption of H 2 . Furthermore, Ru loading not only broadens the light absorption range and promotes photogenerated charge separation, but also increases the density of moderate basic sites, thus boosting CO 2 adsorption and activation. This work provides new insights into the design of bimetallic photothermal catalysts for CO 2 methanation.

RuNi nanoclusters confined in hollow mesoporous carbon are synthesized by a template-impregnation method. • RuNi/MCS-3 delivers superior alkaline HER performance comparable to commercial Pt/C. • Formed Ru−O−Ni bridge accelerates water dissociation and optimizes H* adsorption. • Pore confinement and electronic synergy offer a strategy for advanced HER electrocatalysts. Developing efficient and stable bimetallic electrocatalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in alkaline media is crucial for sustainable water splitting. However, this field still faces substantial challenges. Herein, a series of hollow mesoporous carbon-confined RuNi bimetallic nanocluster catalysts (RuNi/MCS-x) were synthesized via a facile combination of the template method and impregnation strategy. Their electrocatalytic HER performance was systematically evaluated in 1 M KOH solution. Notably, the MCS-3 material, prepared at a TPOS/TEOS volume ratio of 1:1, exhibits an optimal porous structure with a large pore size of 5.64 nm and a high specific surface area of 631.34 m 2 g −1 . The interconnected porous structure, linking the internal hollow cavities to the outer surface, provides sufficient transport channels for electrolyte penetration and hydrogen release. Benefiting from these structural advantages, the RuNi/MCS-3 catalyst delivers excellent alkaline HER performance. It requires only an overpotential of 15.6 mV to achieve a current density of 10 mA cm −2 in 1 M KOH electrolyte and displays a high mass activity of 651.4 mA mg Ru −1 at an overpotential of −50 mV. In addition, RuNi/MCS-3 achieves a Faradaic efficiency (FE) close to 100%, and its turnover frequency (TOF) is comparable to that of commercial Pt/C catalysts. The superior catalytic activity originates from three synergistic factors. First, the unique Ru−O−Ni bridging structure creates abundant electron-rich oxygen sites to promote water dissociation, optimize H* adsorption, and accelerate hydrogen desorption kinetics. Second, the pore confinement of hollow mesoporous carbon facilitates uniform dispersion of RuNi nanoclusters and full exposure of active sites. Third, the Ru−O−Ni bridge facilitates electron transfer and lowers the kinetic barrier of the alkaline HER, thereby substantially boosting the overall water-splitting efficiency. This work presents a feasible innovative strategy to rationally design and fabricate high-efficiency bimetallic carbon electrocatalysts toward high-performance HER. Synergistic Fe 3 O 4 @TCPP-Ru nanozyme with enhanced peroxidase and oxidase-like activity. • Dual-enzyme cascade for sensitive hypoxanthine detection. • Accurate shrimp freshness monitoring versus HPLC. • Portable hydrogel-smartphone platform for hypoxanthine on-site detection. The quality and safety of aquatic products are intrinsically linked to their freshness. Hypoxanthine (HX), a primary biochemical metabolite of adenosine triphosphate, serves as a crucial biomarker for early spoilage and an indicator of aquatic food freshness. In this study, a reliable, sensitive, and convenient colorimetric sensing platform was developed for HX detection based on a dual-enzyme cascade system involving xanthine oxidase and a novel peroxidase-mimicking nanozyme, Fe 3 O 4 @TCPP-Ru, which was synthesized by modifying Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles with tetra(4-carboxyphenyl)porphyrin (TCPP) and in situ anchoring Ru nanoclusters, resulting enhanced adsorption capacity and superior peroxidase-like activity. During detection process, HX is oxidized by XOD to produce H 2 O 2 , which triggers the Fe 3 O 4 @TCPP-Ru catalyzed oxidation of 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine substrate into a blue-colored product, enabling the colorimetric detection of HX. Under optimal conditions, HX can be detected in a linear range of 2.5–150 μM with a limit of detection of 1.72 μM. This method was also applied to monitor shrimp freshness, showing satisfactory recoveries (92.95%–110.69%) and good agreement with HPLC analysis. Furthermore, an integrated hydrogel-assisted colorimetric sensor was developed for smartphone-based point-of-care testing, allowing for rapid, visual, and instrument-free quantification of HX in shrimp samples stored in different temperatures and time. Our proposed Fe 3 O 4 @TCPP-Ru platform offers a promising strategy for on-site food safety monitoring. Download: Download high-res image (194KB) Download: Download full-size image

The development of efficient and durable catalysts for ammonia decomposition is critical to realizing a hydrogen economy, yet remains challenging due to the trade-off between noble metal loading and catalytic stability. Here, we demonstrate that ceramic fiber (CF) supports enable exceptional ammonia decomposition performance with ultralow Ru loading (0.3 wt%). The optimized Ru-CF catalyst achieves 99.47% NH 3 conversion at 525°C under a gas hourly space velocity of 9000 mL·g cat −1 ·h −1 , maintaining stable operation over 100 h—substantially outperforming its glass fiber (GF)-supported counterpart. A systematic mechanistic investigation reveals that the CF architecture not only induces abundant oxygen vacancies and modulates the electronic structure of Ru via strong metal–support interactions, but also optimizes Ru dispersion and creates a favorable distribution of acid–base sites. These synergistic effects collectively facilitate N─H bond cleavage and accelerate N 2 recombinative desorption—the kinetically relevant step—fundamentally enhancing the overall reaction kinetics. This work establishes fiber-based supports as a versatile platform for designing high-performance, low-loading precious metal catalysts, offering a viable pathway toward practical hydrogen production from ammonia. Graphical A ceramic fiber (CF)-supported catalyst with ultralow Ru loading (0.3 wt%) achieves near-complete ammonia decomposition at 525°C. The synergistic effect of abundant oxygen vacancies, intrinsic surface basicity, and 3D fibrous architecture dramatically boosts catalytic efficiency and stability. .

Ru-decorated graphitic carbon-encapsulated Ni₃Fe particles are embedded in hollow carbon nanofibers as an electrocatalyst. • Graphitic carbon enhances alloy conductivity and hollow porous CNFs facilitate electrolyte penetration and bubble detachment. • Ru nanoparticles reconstruct electronic structure and optimize HER/OER intermediate Gibbs free energies. • The Ru/Ni₃Fe@C/CNF composite accelerates both OER and HER kinetics and achieves outstanding long‑term catalytic stability. Nickel‑iron intermetallic Ni 3 Fe represents a low-cost oxygen evolution reaction (OER) electrocatalyst, yet sluggish hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) kinetics, severe particle aggregation and inferior alkaline stability greatly limit its bifunctional water-splitting application. Hierarchical hollow N-doped carbon nanofiber supported Ru/Ni 3 Fe@C core-shell heterostructures (Ru/Ni 3 Fe@C/CNF) are fabricated via coaxial electrospinning, high-temperature carbonization and liquid-phase Ru reduction. Hollow N-doped carbon nanofibers serve as conductive porous scaffolds, where graphitic carbon shells encapsulate Ni 3 Fe nanoparticles and evenly dispersed Ru nanoparticles form heterointerfaces for electronic regulation. Characterizations confirm carbon-triggered Ni 3 Fe lattice expansion, strong Ru-Ni/Fe charge transfer, and in-situ formation of NiOOH/FeOOH active sites under OER conditions. Electrochemical measurements in 1 M KOH deliver 61 mV HER and 240 mV OER overpotentials at 10 mA cm −2 , outperforming Ni 3 Fe@C/CNF and commercial Pt/C/RuO 2 . Elevated double-layer capacitances (38.9 mF cm −2 for HER, 37.3 mF cm −2 for OER) and lowered charge transfer resistance demonstrate abundant exposed active sites. Benefiting from carbon confinement, 83% and 80% initial activity are maintained after 40 h HER and OER operation, respectively. The symmetric electrolyzer attains a low cell voltage of 1.64 V at 10 mA cm −2 with 92% activity retention over 100 h. Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations confirm combined carbon encapsulation and Ru decoration upshift Ni 3 Fe d-band center, reduce water dissociation barrier to 0.46 eV and balance H ⁎ /OOH ⁎ adsorption to accelerate catalytic kinetics. This work develops an integrated interface engineering strategy for high-efficiency durable non-noble bifunctional electrocatalysts. The catalyst consists of Ru nanoparticles decorated on graphitic carbon-encapsulated Ni 3 Fe alloy nanoparticles embedded in hollow porous carbon nanofibers (CNFs). Benefiting from its optimized electronic structure, boosted charge transfer capability, and favorable structural stability, the Ru/Ni 3 Fe@C/CNF catalyst demonstrates impressive dual functionality in both OER and HER.
