In order to improve the surface properties of Ti-6Al-4V, high-entropy alloy coatings were prepared by in-situ laser cladding on the surface of Ti-6Al-4V substrate. The microstructure, micro-hardness, corrosion resistance and wear resistance were investigated. The results showed that the high-entropy alloy coating was composed of BCC high-entropy alloy phase, α-Ti phase and (Ni, Co)Ti2 phase. The micro-hardness of the high-entropy alloy coatings is much higher than that of Ti-6Al-4V substrate. The coating also has a better corrosion resistance than Ti-6Al-4V substrate, even superior to 304SS in 3.5wt.% NaCl solution at room temperature. Compared with Ti-6Al-4V substrate, the high-entropy alloy coating has a greater wear resistance with the wear mass loss decreased 28.2% and 23.1%, respectively. Wear patterns of Ti-6Al-4V substrate and high-entropy alloy coatings are the coexistence of adhesive wear and abrasive wear, but the wear degree of high-entropy alloy coatings is lower.

The F and Sb co-doped Ti/SnO 2 electrode containing Sn-Sb interlayer was innovatively synthesized for electro-oxidation (EO) removal of perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) in water. Stronger oxidation capability and remarkably longer lifetime were performed for Ti/Sn-Sb/SnO 2 -F-Sb electrode than these similar electrodes in this study without Sn-Sb interlayer and F/Sb doping, which could removed more than 99% of PFOS ( C 0 = 100 mg L −1 ) after 120-min electrolysis. The attribute of Ti/Sn-Sb/SnO 2 -F-Sb anode and its EO mechanism were surveyed by XRD, XPS, SEM, and LSV. F and Sb co-doping could improve the stability and EO capability of the electrode, which resulted from that the smooth surface was formed conveniently to produce physically adsorbed hydroxyl radical and lead to relatively high OEP. The operating parameters of EO process were also investigated including current density, pH value, and stirring speed, which revealed the effect of these parameters on PFOS decomposition. Additionally, the mineralization parameters, TOC and F − concentration, as well as short-chain perfluorocarboxylic acids were analyzed in solution during the electrolysis. Consequently, the EO pathway of PFOS was proposed through the detection of intermediates. These results manifest that Ti/Sn-Sb/SnO 2 -F-Sb anode is prospective to effectively decompose PFOS in wastewater.

Highly selective enrichment of trace phosphorylated proteins or peptides from complex biological samples is of profound significance for the discovery of disease biomarkers in biological systems. In this study, a novel affinity material has been synthesized to improve the enrichment specificity for phosphopeptides by using PAAS as coupling molecule. In the resulting materials, highly abundant titanium is available for selective enrichment of phosphopeptides, with plenty of carboxylate groups that can inhibit nonspecific adsorption. The enrichment results demonstrated that the hydrophilic PAA-Ti/TiO 2 composite possesses excellent selectivity for phosphopeptides even at a very low molar ratio of phosphopeptides/non-phosphopeptides (1:1000), extreme sensitivity (the detection limit was at the fmol level), and high recovery of phosphopeptides (as high as 78%). Moreover, the as-prepared nanocomposite provides effective enrichment of phosphopeptides from real samples (mouse liver), showing great potential in the detection of low-abundance phosphopeptides in biological samples.

A Ti/Sb–SnO2 electrode modified with titanium nitride (TiN) nanoparticles was prepared by the pulse electro-codeposition method. X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy show that compared with Ti/Sb–SnO2, the Ti/Sb–SnO2–TiN electrode has a small unit cell volume of tetragonal SnO2 and a refined, compact particle film. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis shows that introducing titanium nitride nanoparticles facilitates the formation of Sb5+. And the adsorbed hydroxyl oxygen species content of Ti/Sb–SnO2–TiN (43.07%) is higher than that of Ti/Sb–SnO2 (21.85%), indicating that the Ti/Sb–SnO2–TiN electrode has more active sites for electrochemical oxidation of organic pollutants. In 0.25 M Na2SO4 solution, the charge transfer resistance of Ti/Sb–SnO2–TiN (150 ohm) is much smaller than that of Ti/Sb–SnO2 (1334 ohm). With a constant current density of 100 mA cm−2, the accelerated service lifetime of Ti/Sb–SnO2–TiN is improved significantly, which is 15.7 times as long as that of Ti/Sb–SnO2. The Ti/Sb–SnO2–TiN electrode is demonstrated to have a prominent ability for oxidative decolorization of methylene blue. The results also confirm that the Ti/Sb–SnO2–TiN electrode has a higher decolorization efficiency and kinetic rate constant, which are 1.54 and 3.24 times as efficient as those of Ti/Sb–SnO2, respectively.

Mesoporous Ce–Ti–MoOx catalysts have been prepared by stabilization with an in situ formed carbon template and used for selective catalytic reduction of NOx with NH3 (NH3-SCR). The Ce–Ti–MoOx catalysts were characterized by N2 adsorption–desorption, XRD, HR-TEM, H2-TPR and XPS analysis. It was found that the stabilization with a carbon template obviously improved the NOx conversion of the Ce–Ti–MoOx catalyst and the pore distribution. The Ce–Ti–MoOx catalyst stabilized with a carbon template at 850 °C in N2 exhibited the best NH3-SCR activity and showed a uniform mesopore distribution, and more than 90% NOx conversions were obtained at 175–425 °C with a GHSV of 60 000 h−1. The high stabilization temperature with a carbon template in N2 not only led to an increase in specific surface area, pore volume and low-temperature SCR activity, but also contributed to the enhanced redox properties, highly dispersed titanium or molybdenum species and narrow mesopore distribution. The treatment of Ce–Ti–MoOx with a high calcination temperature for removal of the carbon template led to a drastic decrease in surface area, an abrupt decrease in surface oxygen and cerium, production of rutile TiO2, and a correspondingly low SCR activity.

Highly effective free-standing electrocatalysts are demanded to reduce biomass-oriented aldehydes to alcohols. Magnetron sputtering is efficient to produce film-based catalysts, but depositing transition metals on carbon fiber paper (CFP) faces the challenge of weak adhesion. Here we introduced a strategy with sputtered Ti as a sublayer to enhance the adhesion between Ni and CFP, and systematically studied the changes in morphology and catalytic performances. Different from the dense structure of Ni directly sputtered on CFP, the Ni on Ti sublayer demonstrates a column-channel architecture, and shows fast electron/ion transfer and stable structure during the reaction. Moreover, the microstructure of Ni film was further modified by regulating the working pressure during sputtering. The enhanced electrocatalytic performance with Ti sublayer is ascribed to the higher adhesion strength, the faster electron/ion transfer and the enriched local concentration of hydronium ions, which are confirmed by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and in-situ surface-enhanced infrared absorption spectroscopy.

Lithium (Li) - and manganese (Mn)-rich oxides ( x Li 2 MnO 3 ·(1− x ) Li TM O 2 , TM = Ni, Co, Mn, etc.) are one of the most promising cathode materials because of their high theorical capacity, which is contributed by the redox of both transition metal cations and oxygen anion. However, anionic redox leads to transition-metal migration and release of lattice oxygen, which further triggers voltage decay and capacity fade. Here, we report a dual-doping and multiphase co-existence strategy to tackle the structure degradation of Li- and Mn-rich materials and enhance electrochemical kinetics. La–Ti dual cations doping strength the TM -O bonds and improve cycling stability, and the inducement of LaMnO 3+ δ (LaMO) phase provides higher conductivity. As a result, the unique architecture presents a favourable rate performance, improved capacity retention, and suppressed voltage decay. After 200 cycles at 1C (250 mA g −1 ), the La–Ti dual cations doped Li-and Mn-rich material shows 24 % higher capacity retention and 52 % lower voltage decay compared to the non-doped material. This study demonstrates the potential of dual transition-metal ion doping combined with doping-induced perovskite phase to enhance the performance of Li- and Mn-rich materials.

Photocatalytic CO 2 reduction has been considered as an efficient way for the carbon nuetrality. In this work, a series of (Cu, Mn) co-incorporated metal-orgnaic frameworks (MOFs) (NH 2 -MIL-125(Ti) (NML)) with different Cu 2+ /Ti 4+ and Mn 2+ /Ti 4+ molar ratios are systematically investigated to improve the efficiency for photocatalytic CO 2 reduction. The optimized sample (1 M−5C−−NML) shows a highest yield of HCOOH (116.74 μmol . g −1. h −1 ) (3.71 times higher than that of NML), and a superior apparent quantum efficiency (AQE) (6.74 % at 405 nm). The improved performance is attributed to the formed oxygen vacancy and intermediate energy level as introduced by the co-incorporation, which facilitate the charge separation and enhance the visible-light-harvesting of NML. It shows that the density of oxygen vacancies increases with the increasing amount of Cu, resulting in enhanced charge separation. However, the increasing amount of Mn leads to the short-range Mn-Mn interaction, the concentration quenching effect as well as the inhibited photocatalytic performance. This work shows that the co-incorporated MOFs can be used as an advanced photocatalyst.

Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene aerogels with the advantages of better wave impedance matching and lightweight toward electromagnetic wave (EMW) protection have aroused widespread attention. However, the limited gelation capability and inadequate interfacial interactions between MXene nanosheets impose insurmountable challenges to construct robust, free-standing MXene monoliths with efficient absorption capability. Herein, a universal assemble-confinement strategy is presented to fabricate spatially dispersed transition metal sulfides anchored on MXene aerogels (MXene/TMS) via interfacial Ti-O-M bonds, in which the divalent metal ions (Fe 2+ , Co 2+ , Ni 2+ , Cu 2+ , Zn 2+ ) mediate the rapid gelation and assembly of MXene nanosheets into hydrogels, followed by the topological transformation of sulfidation treatment. Benefiting from the macroscopic porous structure, intimate interfacial interactions generated by Ti-O-M bonds between MXene skeleton and metal sulfides, and numerous defect polarization sites, MXene/TMS aerogels deliver optimal impedance matching balance and enhanced attenuation capacities compared to MXene nanosheets. Specifically, MXene/CoS aerogels show remarkable EMW absorption performances, with a minimum reflection loss value of −69.6 dB and full X-band (8.2–12.4 GHz) absorption at an ultralow density of 0.021 g/cm 3 . Experimental results and simulation analyses demonstrate that the interfacial interactions effectively reinforce dielectric polarization responses. Additionally, stable thermal infrared stealth ability and excellent mechanical strength endow the MXene/CoS aerogel with multifunctional properties. This work provides a general approach for the rational design of MXene/TMS aerogels with multifunctional applications and presents a new insight into the electromagnetic dissipation mechanism of interfacial bonds for boosting dielectric interactions.

After bone tumor resection, the large bony deficits are commonly reconstructed with Ti-based metallic endoprosthesis, which provide immediate stable fixation and allow early ambulation and weight bearing. However, when used in osteosarcoma resection, Ti implant-relative infection and tumor recurrence were recognized as the two critical factors for implantation failure. Hence, in this work, a novel zinc oxide nanoparticle decorating with naringin was prepared and immobilized onto Ti substrate. The drugs delivery profiles proved that in the bacterial infection and Warburg effect of osteosarcoma-induced acidic condition, naringin and Zn 2+ can be released easily from the functional Ti substrate. The anti-osteosarcoma and antibacterial assay showed the delivered naringin and Zn 2+ can induce a remarkable increase of oxidative stress in bacteria ( Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus ) and osteosarcoma (Saos-2 cells) by producing reactive oxygen species (ROS). Accumulation of ROS results in damage of bacterial biofilm and bacterial membrane, leading to the leakage of bacterial RNA and DNA. Meanwhile, the increase of ROS induces osteosarcoma cell apoptosis by activating ROS/extracellular signal-regulated kinase signaling pathway. Furthermore, in vitro cellular experiments, including cell viability, alkaline phosphatase activity, collagen secretion, extracellular matrix mineralization level, indicated that the functional Ti substrate exhibited great potential for osteoblasts proliferation and differentiation. Hence, this study provides a simple and promising strategy of developing multifunctional Ti-based implants for the reconstruction of large bony after osteosarcoma resection.

Photocatalytic peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation process is promising for the organic wastewater treatment. A simple amide bonding strategy has been developed to synthesized Ti-oxo clusters (TiOCs)-g-C 3 N 4 (TiOCs-CN) catalyst. The prepared TiOCs-CN was used to remove bisphenol A (BPA) under simulated sunlight-driven PMS. The experimental and computational results demonstrate that the incorporation of TiOCs can efficiently regulate the electronic structure of CN. Thus, an excellent performance with a BPA removal rate of 100 % and a total organic carbon (TOC) removal rate of 87.2 % within 40 min was achieved in the AM 1.5/PMS-TiOCs-CN system. Among, the reaction rate constant of AM 1.5/PMS-TiOCs-CN (97.24 × 10 −3 min −1 ) is higher than that of AM 1.5/PMS-CN (25.10 × 10 −3 min −1 ) by nearly 4 times. The synergistic effect of photocatalytic PMS activation greatly facilitated the generation of reactive radicals and obviously increased the removal rate of BPA. This work can offer inspiration for rational design of high efficiency photocatalysts in the PMS oxidation process for organic wastewater remediation.

The role of catalysts in enhancing the hydrogen storage kinetics of the Mg/MgH 2 system is pivotal. However, the exploration of efficient catalysts and the underlying principles of their design remain both a prominent focus and a significant challenge in current research. In this study, we present a bimetallic oxide of Bi 2 Ti 2 O 7 hollow sphere as a highly effective catalyst for MgH 2 . As a result, the Bi 2 Ti 2 O 7 -catalyzed Mg/MgH 2 system lowers the hydrogen desorption initiation temperature to 194.3 °C, reduces the peak desorption temperature to 245.6 °C, decreases the dehydrogenation activation energy to 82.14 kJ·mol −1 , and can absorb 5.4 wt. % of hydrogen within 60 s at 200 °C, demonstrating outstanding hydrogen ab/desorption kinetics, compared to pure MgH 2 . Additionally, it can maintain a high hydrogen capacity of 5.2 wt. %, even after 50 dehydrogenation cycles, showing good cycle stability. The characterization results show that the high-valent Bi and Ti in Bi 2 Ti 2 O 7 are reduced to their low-valent or even zero-valent metallic states during the dehydrogenation and hydrogenation process, thus establishing an in-situ multivalent and multi-element catalytic environment. Density functional theory calculations further reveal that the synergistic effects between Bi and Ti in the Bi-Ti mixed oxide facilitate the cleavage of Mg-H bonds and lower the kinetic barrier for the dissociation of hydrogen molecules, thereby substantially enhancing the kinetics of the Mg/MgH 2 system. This study presents a strategic method for developing efficient catalysts for hydrogen storage materials by harnessing the synergistic effects of metal elements.
