The development of efficient photocatalysts for solar-driven H 2 evolution relies on precise charge management. A novel ternary heterojunction photocatalyst, 1%Co@ZnIn 2 S 4 /UiO-66 (1%Co@ZU), was synthesized through a collaborative sequential self-assembly and photodeposition strategy. In photocatalytic water splitting for H 2 evolution, 1%Co@ZU achieved a H 2 evolution rate of 46.40 mmol·g −1 ·h −1 , with apparent quantum efficiency (AQE) of 86.32% at 420 nm. An S-scheme heterojunction between UiO-66 (UiO) and ZnIn 2 S 4 (ZIS) promoted efficient charge separation. Co S bonds directed the rapid transfer of electrons from ZIS to Co. Electrons were enriched on Co sites, and the energy barrier was reduced quickly. The optimal free energy of H* adsorption (ΔG H⁎ ) was 0.14 eV. This study demonstrates the crucial role of band alignment and interface design in high-performance photocatalytic systems for application in H 2 evolution and other energy conversion fields. A novel UiO-66/Leu/Au@AgNPs SERS substrate was fabricated for chlorthiamid detection. • A low LOD of 1.95 × 10 −9 mol L −1 and wide linear range were obtained for chlorthiamid. • The sensor showed good stability, repeatability, and high anti-interference ability. • Good recoveries in real samples confirmed its practical use in food safety analysis. A novel surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) substrate, UiO-66/Leu/Au@AgNPs, was fabricated by assembling gold@silver core-shell nanoparticles (Au@AgNPs) with leucine (Leu) and the zirconium-based metal-organic framework (MOF) (UiO-66). Various techniques including SEM, TEM, HAADF-STEM, XRD, XPS, FT-IR, TGA, UV–Vis, and Zeta potential were employed to fully characterize the substrate of UiO-66/Leu/Au@AgNPs. The substrate of UiO-66/Leu/Au@AgNPs achieved remarkable Raman signal amplification for chlorthiamid. Both electromagnetic enhancement (EM) and chemical enhancement (CM) mechanisms significantly boosted the distinct and reproducible Raman signal of chlorthiamid. The determination of chlorthiamide was not interfered by fourteen types of pesticides and several common metal ions, demonstrating the good selectivity of this method. The linear regression equation was expressed as I SERS = 128.08 c + 288,613.27 ( R 2 = 0.9982), The linear range spanned three orders of magnitude (from 3 × 10 −9 to 1 × 10 −6 mol L −1 ). A low limit of detection (LOD) of 1.95 × 10 −9 mol L −1 was obtained. The proposed method was further utilized for the determination of chlorthiamid in real samples, giving recoveries between 96.4% and 105% ( n = 5). UiO-66 MOF was functionalized with dual ligands namely BDC-NH 2 and BDC-(OH) 2 . • Selective CO 2 /CH 4 adsorption were investigated at atmospheric and high pressures. • The highest CO 2 /CH 4 selectivity of 35.60 was achieved with 10%H-ZrMOF-A adsorbent. • CO 2 adsorption capacity of the adsorbent remained over 91.5% after five reuses. Selective CO 2 /CH 4 separation is essential for biogas valorization, yet conventional adsorbents typically face a trade-off between adsorption capacity and selectivity. In this work, a dual-ligand engineering strategy is implemented on UiO-66-NH 2 (ZrMOF-A) by co-incorporating 2,5-dihydroxyterephthalate (BDC-(OH) 2 ) to create a series of mixed-ligand MOFs denoted X %H-ZrMOF-A ( X = 5%–50% (mass)). The materials were synthesized via a solvothermal route and systematically characterized by N 2 physisorption, powder X-ray diffraction, FTIR spectroscopy, and SEM to elucidate structure-property relationships. Increasing hydroxyl content progressively modified surface area, pore volume, and morphology, with excessive BDC-(OH) 2 loading (>30% (mass)) inducing pronounced structural degradation. Among the series, 10%H-ZrMOF-A exhibited the most favorable balance between textural properties and functional site density, achieving a CO 2 uptake of 1.352 mmol·g –1 and a CO 2 /CH 4 selectivity of 35.60 at 100 kPa and 25 °C for a 40:60 CO 2 :CH 4 mixture predicted by IAST. Multi-model isotherm analysis identified the Freundlich and Elovich models as the most suitable descriptions of CO 2 adsorption, confirming a heterogeneous adsorption landscape arising from the coexistence of amine and hydroxyl sites. Complementary DFT calculations showed that dual functionalization strengthens CO 2 binding while weakening CH 4 interactions, consistent with the experimentally observed enhancement in selectivity. Pressure-dependent measurements revealed that high CO 2 /CH 4 selectivity at low pressures (≤100 kPa) diminishes at elevated pressures as non-selective pore filling becomes dominant, indicating that 10%H-ZrMOF-A is particularly suited for low-pressure biogas upgrading and post-combustion CO 2 capture. Five consecutive adsorption-desorption cycles demonstrated 91.5% capacity retention, confirming moderate short-term recyclability under mild thermal regeneration conditions. High-performance humidity sensors have significant potential applications in areas such as smart homes and digital healthcare, but the limited humidity sensing performance of materials hinders their practical application. One major challenge in enhancing the sensing performance of humidity-sensitive materials is the effective regulation of oxygen vacancy content within their crystal structures. In this study, we propose a dual regulation strategy of “ligand induced-pyrolysis synergy” to control the oxygen vacancy content effectively. Specifically, Metal–Organic Framework (MOF) materials containing oxygen vacancies were synthesized using a monocarboxylic acid conditioning method. We further increased the oxygen vacancy content in the MOF derivatives by adjusting the heat treatment temperature. The prepared U6C-20-400 sensor demonstrated excellent performance across a wide humidity range of 3–97% relative humidity (RH), with a rapid response/recovery time of just 0.5 s and 1.2 s. Furthermore, it effectively monitored food as it transitioned from raw to cooked and even burnt during cooking. This study offers valuable insights for developing high quality humidity sensors tailored for next-generation smart home applications.

For the carbonylation of methyl nitrite (MN) to dimethyl carbonate (DMC), a series of Ce(x)-UiO-66 were synthesized and utilized as supports for Pd/Ce(x)-UiO-66 catalysts. The characteristics of the carriers were investigated using XRD, SEM, TG, NH3-TPD and BET analyses. The results showed that doping cerium in the UiO-66 significantly enhanced the catalytic activity by improving the surface area, acidity and CO adsorption of the catalysts. Ce(0.1)-UiO-66, with the highest thermal stability (547.26 °C), presented the highest catalytic stability in DMC synthesis. It was proven that the damage of CO and the migration of Pd atoms occurred due to the replacement of ligands and metal clusters, which led to catalytic deactivation.

In the work, the layered TiO 2 NS/UiO-66/GO composites were successfully prepared through an in-situ method. Two-dimensional TiO 2 NS combined with UiO-66/GO to form a layered structure. The prepared samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, Brunauer–Emmett–Teller test, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, UV–Vis DRS and PL spectra. TiO 2 NS/40%UiO-66/GO exhibited the most efficient adsorption (20 and 1.3 times those of TiO 2 NS and UiO-66/GO, respectively) through absorbing Congo red (CR). It also displayed the strongest photocatalytic activity (29 and 2 times those of TiO 2 NS and UiO-66/GO, respectively) for degrading CR dye under visible-light irradiation (λ ≥ 420 nm). The removal rate of CR was nearly 100%. Besides, TiO 2 NS/40%UiO-66/GO showed excellent stability even after four cycling runs of adsorbing and photodegrading CR. The results showed that TiO 2 NS/UiO-66/GO composites were highly efficient adsorption and catalytic bifunctional materials. TiO 2 NS/UiO-66/GO composites provide an important basis for combining metal organic frameworks/GO with photocatalytic semiconductors to improve absorption and photocatalytic performance to better treat organic wastewaters.

Recently, UiO-66 type metal organic frameworks (MOFs) have been studied as adsorbents for phosphate removal from wastewater; however, the adsorption mechanism with different concentrations of phosphate, especially the roles of defects and linker exchange, are not entirely clear. In this work, the phosphate adsorption mechanism in HCl-UiO-66 and HCl-NH 2 -UiO-66 were examined by testing the relationship between the adsorbed phosphate and released linker in the adsorption process. Adsorption kinetics studies (3.0 mM phosphate solution) and adsorption isotherm analyses (0.3–6.0 mM phosphate solution) revealed highly linear relationships (R 2 = 0.8949–0.9978) between the adsorbed phosphate and released linker for both adsorbents. Further analysis showed that when the adsorbed phosphate was lower than 0.56 mmol/g for HCl-UiO-66 and 0.51 mmol/g for HCl-NH 2 -UiO-66, phosphate was preferentially adsorbed on the defect sites in the MOFs with no linker release. However, when the adsorbed phosphate exceeded these levels, the defects were saturated by phosphate and linker exchange became the major adsorption mechanism. Based on density functional theory calculations, the obtained strengths of the linkers (H 2 BDC: Terephthalic acid; NH 2 -H 2 BDC: 2-Aminoterephthalic Acid; NO 2 -H 2 BDC: 2-Nitroterephthalic Acid) and phosphate species as Lewis bases fall in the order, PO 4 3- > HPO 4 2- > NH 2 -BDC 2- > BDC 2- > H 2 PO 4 - > NO 2 -BDC 2- > H 3 PO 4 , which clearly evidences why linkers can be exchanged by phosphate. Given the propensity for ligand exchange and the resulting structural destabilization, UiO-66 type MOFs is not suggested as ideal adsorbents for phosphate removal from wastewater with high phosphate concentrations.

A ternary Z-scheme heterojunction photocatalyst, BiOBr/TiO 2 /NH 2 -UiO-66(Zr), was constructed to enhance the visible-light-driven degradation of tetracycline (TC). This composite material was synthesized via hydrothermal and in situ growth methods, and its microstructure and properties were analyzed through a series of systematic characterizations. The introduction of NH 2 -UiO-66 significantly increased the specific surface area and visible light absorption while promoting the separation and transport of photogenerated charge carriers. Under visible light irradiation, the optimal composite (BTU-2) achieved a TC degradation rate of 96.3% within 80 min, with a reaction rate constant 9.41, 12.03, and 8.58 times higher than those of pure BiOBr, TiO 2 nanowires (NWs), and NH 2 -UiO-66, respectively. Trapping experiments and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) analysis confirmed that h + and ‧O 2 − were the dominant active species. Liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC–MS) further elucidated the possible TC degradation pathways. This work provides a feasible strategy for designing efficient visible-light-responsive photocatalysts for antibiotic wastewater treatment. Graphical abstract

A covalently coupled CdTe/NH₂-UiO-66(Eu) ratiometric probe was developed. • Adsorption experiments and IGM analysis indicated rapid glyphosate uptake mediated by multiple interfacial interactions. • Glyphosate enhanced blue emission and weakened green emission for ratiometric readout. • Lifetime, XPS, and TD-DFT analyses provided mechanistic insights into the fluorescence response. Rapid detection and effective adsorptive capture of glyphosate from water are important for aquatic environmental monitoring and agricultural product safety. To address the susceptibility of single-emission fluorescence signals to external fluctuations and the limited glyphosate-capture capability of conventional fluorescent probes, a dual-emission platform integrating glyphosate adsorption with ratiometric fluorescence detection was constructed through the covalent interfacial assembly of Eu 3+ -modified NH 2 -UiO-66 and mercaptopropionic acid-modified CdTe QDs. Adsorption experiments and independent gradient model (IGM) analysis indicated that the composite exhibited rapid glyphosate uptake mediated by multiple interfacial interactions. In the presence of glyphosate, CdTe/NH 2 -UiO-66(Eu) exhibits enhanced blue emission at 434 nm and weakened green emission at 524 nm, producing a pronounced I 434 /I 524 ratiometric response. The fluorescence intensity ratio shows a linear dependence on glyphosate concentration over the range of 0.5–80 μM, with a limit of detection of 0.217 μM. Based on fluorescence lifetime results and XPS analysis, the ratiometric fluorescence response mechanism of the probe was elucidated. TD-DFT calculations further suggested that glyphosate modifies the excited-state charge distribution and charge-transfer characteristics associated with the MOF component. This work provides an interfacial assembly strategy for constructing MOF-based platforms that combine adsorptive glyphosate capture with ratiometric fluorescence sensing. In this study, a green adsorbent (Fe 3 O 4 -UiO-66-NH 2 ) with the ability of addressing the issues of separation and recovery of UiO-66-NH 2 is obtained using a simple co-precipitation method under environmentally benign conditions. Various characterization techniques are utilized for evaluating the properties of the developed adsorbent. The capability of Fe 3 O 4 -UiO-66-NH 2 towards 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) and glyphosate (GP) from solution is explored. The results revealed that the magnetization process did not destroy the crystal structure of UiO-66-NH 2 , which ensured that Fe 3 O 4 -UiO-66-NH 2 had good adsorption performance for 2,4-D and GP. The adsorption processes showed a wide pH application range, high salt tolerance, and regeneration performance as well as an excellent adsorption rate. Results from thermodynamic study showed that both processes were spontaneous and endothermic. The unit uptake ability of Fe 3 O 4 -UiO-66-NH 2 for 2,4-D and GP reached up to 249 mg·g −1 and 183 mg·g −1 from Langmuir model at 303 K, respectively. When solid–liquid ratio was 2 g·L −1 , Fe 3 O 4 -UiO-66-NH 2 can reduce the content of 2,4-D or GP with the initial density of 100 mg·L −1 below the drinking water requirement limit. In addition, the reusability efficiency of Fe 3 O 4 -UiO-66-NH 2 towards 2,4-D and GP was found to be 86% and 80% using 5 mmol·L −1 NaOH as eluent. Analysis of simulated water samples indicated that Fe 3 O 4 -UiO-66-NH 2 could achieve the single or simultaneous removal of 2,4-D and GP from wastewater. Summarily, Fe 3 O 4 -UiO-66-NH 2 as a green adsorbent can serve as an alternative for removing 2,4-D and GP from water body.

SERS sensors based on metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have garnered considerable attention in trace pesticide residue detection. UiO-66/AuNPs suspension substrates were fabricated by introducing thioglycolic acid (TGA) as a binder to modify the surface of AuNPs to facilitate their electrostatic assembly with UiO-66 prepared through hydrothermal reaction. The proposed substrates were used for quantitative and simultaneous analysis of paraquat and diquat in cabbage. Diquat and paraquat in actual cabbage samples were individually analysed with detection of limits (LOD) of 6 μg/L and 3 μg/L, respectively, and validated with recoveries ranging from 92.65 to 118.34%. Furthermore, the UiO-66/AuNPs substrate was able to differentiate between paraquat and diquat mixtures, even for the concentrations in the cabbage extracts differed by a factor of 100. The proposed UiO-66/AuNPs substrate provides a potentially useful tool for the trace determination of pesticide residues in the practical food safety analysis

Core-shell Fe 3 O 4 @UiO-66-NH 2 nanospheres with superior photocatalytic activity and photo-Fenton performance were synthesized using a layer-by-layer growth strategy. The synthesis involved the use of FeCl 3 , trisodium citrate, sodium acetate, ZrCl 4 , and 2-aminoterephthalic acid as raw materials, with mercaptoacetic acid serving as a modifier. Fe 3 O 4 @UiO-66-NH 2 demonstrated improved visible-light-driven photocatalytic performance in the oxidation degradation of Rhodamine B (RhB) in the presence of trace amounts of H 2 O 2 under visible light irradiation. The Fe(II)/Fe(III) cycle was accelerated by the transfer of the photogenerated electrons (e-) from UiO-66-NH 2 to Fe 3 O 4 , which in turn encouraged the Fenton reaction to produce hydroxyl radicals (•OH). With only 10 mmol/L H 2 O 2 , the removal rate of RhB approached 94% in 120 min. Furthermore, when exposed to visible light, Fe 3 O 4 @UiO-66-NH 2 exhibited 99% efficacious antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus . Overall, the as-prepared Fe 3 O 4 @UiO-66-NH 2 core-shell nanospheres show promise for practical applications as photocatalysts for the degradation of organic pollutants and the inactivation of bacteria in wastewater.
