Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is one of the most aggressive breast cancer subtypes with high metastatic and recurrence rates. However there is still a lack of effective targeting nanoprobes (NPs) which is leading to suboptimal targeted therapy. Cell membrane-encapsulation methods are one of the ideal targeting strategy, which could enhance the biocompatibility through endogenous membrane components while enabling functional integration of targeting and imaging capabilities. In this study, fluorescent dye-clinical indocyanine green (ICG) was successfully encapsulated by TNBC cell membranes via dual biolayer method to form M-ICG NPs. The M-ICG NPs exhibited well cellular uptake for TNBC tumor cells via active targeting capability after homologous cancer cell membrane coating. Meanwhile, strong near-infrared (NIR) fluorescence signals were detected at the tumor sites from mice post-injection of M-ICG NPs at 24 h, indicating that their effective targeted tumor accumulation enables good tumor-specific labeling with strong NIR fluorescence emission. Furthermore, the M-ICG NPs retain the excellent optical and photothermal properties of ICG. Under 808 nm laser irradiation, via infrared imaging, the process of temperature monitoring up to 55°C within 12 min was recorded, exhibiting a strong photothermal effect, which lays a foundation for constructing a multifunctional nanoplatform with tumor-specific targeting, excellent biocompatibility and structural stability.

Luminescent thermometry in the second near-infrared (NIR-II) window holds significant promise for non-invasive. However, its practical application is severely hindered by thermal quenching at elevated temperatures, which limits the development of highly sensitive NIR-II thermometers capable of thermally enhanced emission. Here, we present a rationally designed integer phonon-matching strategy that enables NIR thermal enhancement specifically in singly Er 3+ -doped Ca 2 YNbO 6 double perovskite hosts. Through combined experimental investigations and rate equation modeling, we reveal that efficient multi-phonon relaxation (MPR) between the Er 3+ : 4 I 11/2 and 4 I 13/2 levels is activated when the electronic energy gap corresponds to an integer multiple ( n ≤ 5) of the dominant phonon energy. This resonant phonon-matching condition facilitates highly efficient MPR with increasing temperature, leading to a pronounced 1.66-fold enhancement in the Er 3+ NIR-II emission. Furthermore, we demonstrate the simultaneous occurrence of NIR thermal enhancement and ratiometric temperature sensing in Ca 2 YNbO 6 : Yb 3+ /Er 3+ /Ho 3+ /Pr 3+ crystals, achieving an exceptional relative sensitivity of 0.87% K −1 at 398 K. These findings not only circumvent the thermal quenching limitations of NIR-II phosphors but also establish phonon engineering as a versatile strategy for designing thermally enhanced luminescence, opening new avenues for flexible monitoring of pipeline integrity and organic compound leakage based on differential NIR-II luminescence absorption.

Recurrence of solid tumors after surgical resection is a major barrier to tissue regeneration. As an emerging treatment strategy, photo-thermo-electric therapy ablates tumor cells via photothermal effects and generates reactive oxygen species (ROS) via thermoelectric effects to disrupt heat shock proteins, thereby suppressing their protective function in tumor cells. However, conventional materials suffer from low thermoelectric efficiency and weak tissue penetration ability. In this study, we fabricated iodine-doped bismuth sulfide (I-Bi 2 S 3 ) nanorods with bonding heterostructures to improve thermoelectric performance. The approach employed iodine doping to introduce additional electrons, thereby regulating the band structure of Bi 2 S 3 and exploiting the dual low-energy vibration effect of the heterostructures to reduce thermal conductivity. More importantly, controlling the type of heterostructure modulated the bandgap width, thereby expanding the light absorption range to the higher-penetration near-infrared (NIR)-II region for deep tissue treatment. The I-Bi 2 S 3 nanorods were incorporated into poly- l -lactic acid (PLLA) scaffolds to confer antitumor functionality. According to the results, the bonding heterostructures enhanced the conductivity of Bi 2 S 3 and reduced its thermal conductivity, significantly enhancing thermoelectric efficacy. The heterostructures reduced the bandgap of Bi 2 S 3 from 1.23 to 0.88 eV, enabling optical absorption in the NIR-II region. The ROS tests showed that the PLLA/I-Bi 2 S 3 scaffold exhibited good photothermal effects and ROS generation under 1064-nm laser irradiation. The antitumor efficacy of the PLLA/I-Bi 2 S 3 scaffold reached 84.6% against MG-63 cells, demonstrating its exceptional potential in cancer treatment.

Casein-based nanocarriers have demonstrated significant potential in drug delivery due to their excellent biocompatibility, amphiphilic nature, and pH responsiveness. However, casein-based drug carriers suffer from the problems of single intelligent response and poor controllability of drug release. In this study, casein was combined with hollow copper sulfide (CuS) nanoparticles with near-infrared (NIR) responsiveness through electrostatic self-assembly interaction to generate CuS@casein micelles (CuS@CM) with sustained and pH/NIR dual-responsive drug release properties. The strong negative charge of casein and the hollow structure of CuS ensure a high doxorubicin (DOX) loading efficiency (96.84%) of CuS@CM. Ca 2+ is bound with casein to form inter-casein calcium bridges, thereby providing significant sustained release properties for CuS@CM. The charge inversion property of casein at different pH values and excellent NIR responsiveness of hollow CuS nanoparticles endows CuS@CM with superior pH/NIR dual-responsive drug release performance. In vitro cell viability results demonstrated that the pH/NIR dual-responsiveness of CuS@CM-DOX, as well as its excellent tumor cellular uptake capability, could effectively induce tumor cell death. Overall, this study generates a novel casein-based nanocarrier with sustained and pH/NIR dual-responsive drug delivery properties, which has potential application in the field of tumor-targeted drug delivery.

Diabetic wound infection remains a devastating threat to human health, largely due to bacterial colonization and increased antibiotic resistance during conventional treatments, and alternative therapeutic strategies are thus urgent to improve diabetic wound healing. Herein, we developed a multifaceted nanoplatform (CuO@SiO 2 @NO@Au, CSNA NPs) consisting of a cupric oxide (CuO) core, a mesoporous silicon nanoshell loaded with nitric oxide (NO), and in situ grown ultrasmall Au nanoparticles (NPs) for improved diabetic wound treatment. The results showed that the prepared CSNA NPs exhibited remarkable dual-enzyme mimic activity of glucose oxidase (GOx) and peroxidase (POD), effectively oxidizing glucose to generate gluconic acid, thereby reducing the glucose levels and reversing the acidic wound microenvironment. In addition, the fabricated nanoplatform generated abundant H 2 O 2 , which was converted into highly toxic hydroxyl radical ( · OH), leading to efficient bacterial eradication that was subsequently. Under near-infrared (NIR) light irradiation, the CSNA nanozyme also triggered the release of NO gas and aided in the removal of bacterial biofilms, collectively improving the wound microenvironment. By integrating chemodynamic therapy (CDT), photothermal therapy, and NO gas therapy, this self-activatable NIR- augmented nanozyme provides a promising antimicrobial strategy for diabetic wound treatment.

The combinations of phototherapeutic modalities with chemotherapy represent an innovative antitumor strategy. Herein, we constructed a NIR laser regulated nanoplatform (PTE@TPP-NM(DOX/IR780)) via the self-assembly process of PEG-b-PCL modified with mitochondrial targeting triphenylphosphine (TPP), reactive oxygen species (ROS)-sensitive polymer (PTE), DOX, and IR780. Under 808 nm laser irradiation, IR780 in PTE@TPP-NM(DOX/IR780) generated abundant reactive oxygen species (ROS) and heat for photothermal therapy (PTT) and photodynamic therapy (PDT), while ROS oxidized PTE to release DOX for chemotherapy. The signal 808 nm laser could effectively regulate PTT, PDT, and chemotherapy in real-time, enhancing the synergistic efficacy. PTE@TPP-NM(DOX/IR780) could result in depolarization of the mitochondrial membrane and inhibition of the expression of heat shock proteins to amplify antitumor effect. Enhanced therapeutic effect was demonstrated via in vivo and in vitro experiment. This study provided a promising strategy for the design of multifunctional nanocarriers to address the limitation of combined therapy.

The efficient regulation of sunlight to minimize unnecessary energy exchange through windows plays a vital role in advancing building energy efficiency. However, the inferior stability of cerium-doped tungsten trioxide (CWO) as a near-infrared (NIR) shielding material, combined with the poor mechanical properties of its coatings, poses significant challenges for long-term thermal insulation performance. Here, a hierarchical thermal insulation coating with multifunctional integration has been developed. The inner layer’s excellent NIR shielding performance (94.4%) results in a temperature reduction of 13.6 °C, demonstrating outstanding thermal insulation. Meanwhile, the external layer composed of polysilsesquioxane grafted by carboxylated hexafluoropropylene trimer offers exceptional weather resistance due to the low surface energy. The fluorosilicone coating effectively mitigates oxidation of CWO, as evidenced by the retention of NIR shielding performance even after 30 days of exposure to 60 °C and 90% relative humidity. Furthermore, the coating demonstrates superior anti-graffiti properties and achieves an ultra-high mechanical strength of 0.49 GPa through precise fluorine content modulation. This hierarchical design integrates high hardness, excellent abrasion resistance, anti-graffiti functionality, transparency, and long-term operational durability into a single smart window system, offering a promising solution for reducing building energy consumption.

Integrating photonic crystals (PCs) with hydrogel actuators enables synergistic regulation of actuation behavior and structural color, with promising applications in mechanical engineering and bionics. In this study, a bilayer opal hydrogel was fabricated via a two-step photopolymerization method: a polyacrylamide (PAM) hydrogel layer composited with polystyrene (PS) PCs for stable structural color, and a poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) hydrogel layer loaded with gold nanorods (Au NRs) for near-infrared (NIR) light responsiveness. Upon temperature or NIR stimulation, the as-prepared hydrogel exhibited reversible bending-recovery behavior with stable structural color in water, liquid paraffin, and air, driven by unbalanced volume changes between the two layers. It achieved a maximum bending angle of 240° and 220° within 10 min in 45 °C water and liquid paraffin, respectively. Notably, unlike temperature stimulation which induced overall deformation in liquid environments, NIR stimulation endowed the hydrogel with spatially selective local bending, realizing a maximum bending angle of 170° in air. Reflection spectrum analysis revealed environment-dependent spectral shifts: in water, both the bending and recovery processes were accompanied by a red shift (less 16 nm) of the reflection peak, while in liquid paraffin and air, a red shift occurred during bending and a blue shift was observed during recovery. This discrepancy originates from differences in water exchange efficiency between the hydrogel and its surrounding environments. The bilayer opal hydrogel shows great potential in high-performance flexible actuators such as underwater sensors and light-controlled micro-robots. This work also reveals a regulation mechanism of environment-material interactions on the responsiveness of PC-based smart hydrogels, providing theoretical and technical guidance for their applications in complex environments.

Combining information from different images for multispectral image fusion can enhance human or machine perception. Nowadays, various luminescent materials with different spectral responses are used for image fusion, but this requires complex algorithms and systems to address pixel and position mismatches. Using a single luminescent material to obtain multispectral imaging can effectively avoid pixel mismatch and complex imaging processing. Herein, we report efficient blue-light-excitable ultrabroadband white emission and near-infrared (NIR) emission in the Te 4+ /Mo 4+ -codoped Cs 2 ZrCl 6 with a luminous efficiency of 94.2% (NIR region: 52.6%). Moreover, this compound also shows bright radioluminescence with a light yield of 55 000 photons/MeV in the visible light region. Benefiting from these fascinating optical properties, high-performance single-component white light-emitting diode (WLED), NIR LED, and X-ray scintillator were fabricated based on Te 4+ /Mo 4+ -codoped Cs 2 ZrCl 6 /polydimethylsiloxane flexible film. Particularly, we took bullfrog palm as the target object, and demonstrated its applications in white light imaging, NIR imaging, and X-ray imaging, respectively. Without pixel mismatch and complicated imaging processing, the pixel-level X-ray to NIR image fusion was realized, which can not only observe the wound of bullfrog palm, but also clearly obtain the structure and distribution of blood vessels and skeleton textures under the skin tissue of bullfrog palm.

Purpose Cervical cancer (CC) is still the fourth most common cause of cancer deaths in women. However, current biomedical imaging techniques exhibit inherent limitations in the diagnosis and treatment of CC. This study aims to develop a biomimetic nanoplatform based on tumor cell membranes, loaded with a palladium (Pd)-based computed tomography (CT) contrast agent and the near-infrared (NIR) fluorescent probe indocyanine green (ICG). This multifunctional nanoplatform is designed to integrate multimodal imaging with photothermal therapy (PTT), thereby improving the diagnostic accuracy and therapeutic efficacy against CC.Methods In this study, biomimetic nanoparticles (NPs), designated as M@Pd-ICG NPs, were synthesized by encapsulating Pd and ICG within HeLa cell membranes derived from cell-derived xenograft (CDX) models. Black pigments faced strict limits due to the heavy metal toxicity (Co, Ni), limited resources, and high costs. This study report for the first time the application of a new Co- and Ni-free Na 2 Mn 3 O 7 as a ceramic black pigment with high near-infrared (NIR) reflectance. XRD, FE-SEM, EDS-Mapping, UV-V is , TEM, and CIELAB colorimetry were used to study its properties. The FE-SEM results show the product has irregular flake-like particles, proving layered structure nature of Na 2 Mn 3 O 7 . The color values of the black pigment are L∗ = 17.27, a∗ = −0.05, and b∗ = −1.25. Remarkedly, its L∗ value is lower than that of commercial carbon black, and other currently reported black pigments. The chromatic mechanism originates from the combined effects of Mn 4+ d-d electronic transitions and Mn 4+ →O 2− charge transfer transitions, which together result in broad absorption across the visible region and a pure black color. The glaze shows a shiny black color when applied the pigment as ceramic glazes at 1200 °C in air, and the color values are L∗ = 25.31, a∗ = −2.56, and b∗ = 0.11. Notably, the glaze after high-temperature achieves a near-infrared reflectance of 36.2%, which is only slightly lower than the 45% reflectance of the commercial black near-infrared pigment (Black L 0095). This research provides useful guidance for developing black pigments without Co and Ni.

Accelerating the regeneration of infected wounds necessitates a multifaceted therapeutic intervention that simultaneously eradicates bacterial pathogens, adapts seamlessly to dynamic tissue deformations, and provides uninterrupted barrier protection, ultimately fostering a pro-healing microenvironment. To address these requirements, a dynamic multi-network nanocomposite hydrogel (OG/PCDs) was developed that couples on-demand photothermal therapy with orchestrated tissue remodeling. Specifically, polydopamine carbon dots (PDA-CDs) with exceptional near-infrared (NIR) photothermal conversion efficiency were initially synthesized as broad-spectrum antimicrobial agents. By combining intrinsic physical membrane disruption with NIR-triggered photothermal ablation, the PDA-CDs exhibit potent antibacterial activity while effectively mitigating the risk of bacterial resistance development. Subsequently, the OG/PCDs hydrogel was rationally engineered via the integration of dynamic Schiff base linkages, boronate ester bonds, and UV-triggered free-radical polymerization. Benefiting from its sophisticated architecture, the resulting hydrogel exhibited rapid autonomous self-healing capabilities, reliable tissue adhesion, and an intelligent pH-responsive release profile tailored for acidic infective microenvironments. Crucially, the hydrogel inherits the superior photothermal performance of PDA-CDs, enabling the efficient elimination of both planktonic bacteria and resilient biofilms. In vivo evaluations using an S. aureus-infected wound model demonstrated that the NIR-activated OG/PCDs hydrogel effectively sterilized the wound bed (>99% bacterial eradication) and significantly accelerated tissue remodeling, culminating in an impressive 98.42% wound closure rate over 14 days. Overall, by synergizing targeted photothermal antimicrobial efficacy with dynamic structural adaptability, the nanocomposite hydrogel presents a promising therapeutic platform to combat bacterial infections and facilitate tissue regeneration.
