LBBS glass-modified Li2Mg2.975Co0.025TiO6 microwave dielectric ceramics with near-zero temperature coefficient for LTCC applications

Wang Lei,Zhu Guobin,Wang Zihang,Qiao Feng,Su Hua

A low-temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) material based on Co-doped Li 2 Mg 3 TiO 6 (Li 2 Mg 2.975 Co 0.025 TiO 6 ) with excellent microwave dielectric properties has been developed in this study. The effects of Li 2 O-B 2 O 3 -Bi 2 O 3 -SiO 2 (LBBS) glass addition on the phase composition, microstructure, and dielectric properties of Li 2 Mg 2.975 Co 0.025 TiO 6 ceramics sintered at 900 °C were systematically investigated. Furthermore, CaTiO 3 was incorporated to tune the temperature coefficient of resonant frequency (τ f ) to near-zero. The results indicate that the Li 2 Mg 2.975 Co 0.025 TiO 6  + 7 wt.% LBBS ceramic sintered at 900°C exhibits optimal comprehensive performance with a dielectric constant ( ε r ) of 11.65, a quality factor ( Q  ×  f ) of 53,599 GHz, and a τ f of − 30.1 ppm/ o C. After optimization with 8 wt.% CaTiO 3 addition, the final ceramic composition (Li 2 Mg 2.975 Co 0.025 TiO 6  + 7 wt.% LBBS + 8 wt.% CaTiO 3 ) achieves excellent dielectric properties: ε r  = 12.41, Q  ×  f  = 41,335 GHz, and τ f  =  − 0.92 ppm/ o C. Chemical compatibility tests confirm that this ceramic material demonstrates outstanding compatibility with Ag electrodes, exhibiting no chemical reactions or element diffusion after co-firing. The developed ceramic material satisfies the processing temperature requirements for LTCC technology and possesses promising potential for application in microwave passive components.

The Mechanism of the Cotton Template on the Structure and Catalytic Activity of Zr/Sn Oxide Catalysts

Zhang Zheqiang,Wang Chang,Xiao Minlin,Su Jingjing,Shao Yutong,Zhu Yongjian,He Shiya,Shi Midong,Deng Bin,Zhang Erjun

The resource utilization of CO 2 has garnered significant attention. Among various approaches, the direct synthesis of dimethyl carbonate (DMC) from CO 2 is considered an effective route to reduce chemical pollution and achieve atomic economy. In this work, Zr/Sn metal oxide catalysts were prepared by combining the precipitation method with a cotton-templating approach. The mechanistic role of the cotton template in modulating the catalyst structure and its performance in DMC synthesis were systematically investigated. The as-prepared catalysts were characterized by XRD, TEM, SEM, UV-Vis DRS, and Raman spectroscopy to elucidate their morphology, crystalline structure, and optical properties. Furthermore, the structure-activity relationship was established based on catalytic tests. The results indicated that the template agent has a remarkable impact on the structural properties and catalytic activity of the Zr/Sn-2–5 g catalyst. The strong interaction between ZrO 2 and SnO 2 facilitates the dispersion and stability of active sites, thereby enhancing the catalyst’s activity and selectivity. Notably, the Zr/Sn-4 g catalyst exhibited the highest catalytic activity, yielding 1.74 mmol/g of DMC. This study offers new insights into the design of efficient catalysts for the direct synthesis of DMC from CO 2 . Graphical

Nano zero-valent iron-mediated sodium alginate/polyacrylic acid composite hydrogel: evaluation of hemostatic effects on post-extraction bleeding in anticoagulated mice

Zhao Fang-bing,Xu Yong-kang,Zhang Jing-wen,Cheng Yu-lin,Geng Yuan-ming,Shen Xiao-qing

Objectives This study evaluated the hemostatic efficacy, biocompatibility, and wound healing promotion of a sodium alginate/polyacrylic acid composite hydrogel (SPI hydrogel) mediated by nano zero-valent iron (nZVI) in anticoagulated mice with post-extraction bleeding. Materials and methods Primary human gingival fibroblasts were cultured in media containing different concentrations (1%, 10%, 25%, 50% concentration) of SPI hydrogel extracts and tested for biocompatibility using the cck8 assay. CD-1 mice were modeled for anticoagulation using oral anticoagulants. After confirming modeling success via INR assessment, mice were divided into cotton (Control), gelatin sponge (GS), and hydrogel (SPI) groups. Experiments included tooth extraction hemostasis and tail amputation tests, alongside postoperative healing observation of extraction sockets and comparative histopathological analysis. Results The hydrogel extract at 50% concentration showed slight cytotoxicity and the remaining concentrations were biocompatible. Post-extraction bleeding volume in the SPI group (40 ± 21 mg) was lower than in the Control (265 ± 93 mg) and GS (133 ± 41 mg) groups. Following tail amputation, SPI group bleeding volume (7.90 ± 5.15 mg) was lower than the control group (22.70 ± 12.86 mg), and hemostasis time (1020 ± 115.11 s) was shorter than control group (1500 ± 151.24 s). HE and Masson test of wound tissue revealed superior healing, reduced inflammation, and normal collagen formation in the SPI group. Conclusion SPI hydrogel has acceptable biocompatibility, hemostatic efficacy and wound healing properties, surpassing conventional materials in treating anticoagulant-induced post-extraction bleeding. Clinical relevance It provides a potential alternative for managing anticoagulant-induced bleeding after tooth extraction clinically. Graphical abstract

Oxygen defect engineering modifies NiFe2O4 for efficient detection of n-butanol gas

Liu Zhikuan,Diao Quan,Shang Xiaonan,Zhu Genxing,Cao Shuai,Shi Guangyuan,Jiao Mingli

Prussian blue analogs (PBA) were etched with a weak base and subsequently sulfurized to regulate the oxygen vacancy content, leading to the preparation of defect-rich spinel bimetallic oxide NiFe 2 O 4 . This approach successfully constructed a gas sensor with high response and excellent stability, and the material was systematically characterized. The results show that weak base etching regulates the morphology of PBA, and sulfur doping is employed to control the oxygen vacancy content. Gas sensing results confirmed that the modified NiFe 2 O 4 -NCs@S exhibited superior n-butanol gas sensing performance. Specifically, the sensing response of NiFe 2 O 4 -NCs@S to 100 ppm n-butanol at 275 °C reached 59.29, representing a 9.9-fold enhancement compared with NiFe 2 O 4 -PBA (response = 5.98). In addition, comprehensive tests demonstrate that the sensor possesses reliable selectivity, long-term stability and repeatability. To investigate the sensing mechanism, UV–vis spectroscopy and electrochemical characterizations were performed to verify that oxygen vacancies boost gas-sensing properties via band gap narrowing and electronic structure modulation. This work offers a novel strategy for developing high-response n-butanol gas sensors. Graphical

Preparation of self-standing lithium iron phosphate electrodes by 3D printing method

Wang Tielin,Ji Jiahao,Lin Tao,Lian Fang,Meng Nan,Shao Huiping

The self-standing electrodes attract widespread attention because of the rapid development of flexible micro energy storage devices in recent years. In this study, the self-standing lithium iron phosphate electrodes containing lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (LiTFSI) are prepared by 3D printing. The effects of different LiTFSI contents on electrode are investigated, and the electrochemical performance of the self-standing electrodes is analyzed and discussed. The results show that as the printing needle diameter is 0.16 ± 0.02 mm and an air pressure is 0.65 MPa, the printing slurry of self-standing electrodes exhibits an apparent viscosity of 4.77 Pa s at shear rate of 198.1 s −1 , which is suitable for 3D gel printing. Electrochemical tests show that the self-standing electrodes maintain a stable voltage plateau and rate capability during charge–discharge processes after undergoing 500 cycles for 90° bending. After 300 charge–discharge cycles at 0.5C, the specific capacities of the self-standing electrode and the electrode after bending are 102 mAh g −1 and 99 mAh g −1 , with capacity retentions of 90.9% and 91.6%, respectively. The prepared self-standing electrodes exhibit high electrochemical stability cycling performance, which provides a reference for 3D printing of self-standing electrodes.

Fabrication and microwave absorption properties of ZnO@YCo core–shell composites

Li Xiaoyuan,Zhu Guosong,Pan Wenqian,Zhou Wei,Lu Yuhai,Yue Jing,Xiao Peng,Luo Heng,Li Yang

Conventional microwave-absorbing materials struggle to meet modern demands for ‘thinness, light weight, wide bandwidth, and strong absorption’ in complex electromagnetic environments. Furthermore, emerging applications require new functionalities, specifically low-frequency absorption and multi-band response. To address these challenges, this work designs and constructs a multi-mechanism synergistic absorbing system based on a rare earth-transition metal Y-Co (Y 2 Co 17 ) alloy. The system is fabricated via heterogeneous deposition and thermal treatment to obtain ZnO@YCo composites. The results offer significant implications for the development of low-frequency and multi-band electromagnetic wave-absorbing materials. The main research contents and findings are as follows: A heterogeneous deposition method was employed to introduce needle-like ZnO heterostructures on the surface of YCo particles, followed by thermal treatment to optimize the absorption performance of ZnO@YCo composites. By adjusting the heat treatment temperature, the ZnO morphology was tuned. At 300 °C, the ZnO coating exhibited a well-defined structure with minimal agglomeration. The material demonstrated enhanced low-frequency absorption while retaining good performance in the high-frequency range (14–18 GHz). At a thickness of 6 mm, the minimum RL of ZnO@YCo reached − 5.86 dB at 5.6 GHz, outperforming the pristine YCo powders (RL > − 2.5 dB), thus exhibiting promising low-frequency absorption capabilities.

USP35-mediated NRF2 deubiquitination attenuates experimental cryptorchidism-induced testicular damage and H2O2-induced apoptosis and oxidative stress in spermatogonia

Liu Xiang,Sun Jing-Jing,Mao Chang-Kun,Cao Yong-Sheng,Deng Qi-Fei,Li Guang-Yuan

Cryptorchidism, characterized by the failure of one or both testes to descend into the scrotum, is the most prevalent urogenital malformation in male infants and an important risk element of male infertility and testicular cancer. The purpose of this study was to investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying cryptorchidism-induced testicular damage, with a focus on the role of USP35. Here we established a unilateral experimental cryptorchidism model of Sprague-Dawley rats by resetting the left testis to the abdominal cavity and suturing the inguinal canal, thus preventing its natural descent. The findings indicated that apoptosis and oxidative stress (OS) levels were increased in the undescended testis (UDT) compared to the descended testis (DT) group. Subsequent mRNA sequencing of DT and UDT tissues revealed that ubiquitin specific peptidase 35 (USP35) expression was downregulated in the UDT, implying that USP35 may be an important factor in the pathogenesis of cryptorchidism. To further investigate, an oxidative damage model was constructed using H 2 O 2 -treated GC-1 spermatogonia. USP35 expression was reduced in H 2 O 2 -exposed cells, while overexpression of USP35 attenuated H 2 O 2 -induced oxidative damage by inhibiting apoptosis and OS. Mechanistically, USP35 interacted with nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (NRF2) and stabilized its protein expression via deubiquitination. Impairment of NRF2 function abolished the protective effect of USP35 against oxidative damage in H 2 O 2 -treated GC-1 spermatogonia. Overall, these results highlight the significance of the USP35-NRF2 axis in protecting spermatogonia from oxidative injury, suggesting that USP35 may be a potential therapeutic target against cryptorchidism-induced early germ cell damage.

Structural regulation and coupled electrical-magnetic properties of biomass-derived Fe-incorporated carbon aerogels

Xu Yihua,Huang Linghai,Hu Dinggen,Ke Yu,Li Hongyan,Yang Jun,Fu Bingqing,Zhao Huifang,Sha Lizheng,Sun Minnan,Yuan Tianzhong

To develop biomass‑derived magnetic conductive carbon aerogels toward energy storage and electromagnetic shielding applications, magnetic conductive carbon aerogels were rationally fabricated using chitosan (CS) and sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) as raw biomass precursors via Fe 3+ coordination cross-linking, directional freeze-drying and high-temperature carbonization strategies. The effects of precursor ratio on the microscopic morphology and electrical conductivity of as-prepared aerogels were systematically explored. The results indicated that the optimized CS/CMC-50%-C aerogel possessed a large specific surface area of 458.9 m 2 ·g −1 , well-developed hierarchical porous architecture and superior graphitization degree. During high-temperature pyrolysis, in situ generated Fe 3 O 4 nanocrystals together with formed Fe–C bonds successfully endowed the aerogel with favorable magnetic behavior and simultaneously reinforced the interconnection of internal conductive networks. Benefiting from the above structural and compositional merits, the resultant aerogel achieved low resistivity of 0.454 Ω·cm and maintained stable electrical conductivity and integral structural integrity after ten consecutive charge–discharge cycles. This work provided a promising route to prepare lightweight magnetic conductive biomass aerogels. Graphical abstract High-porosity precursor aerogels were prepared from Fe 3+ cross-linked biomass via directional freezing, and the subsequent carbonization yielded magnetic carbon aerogels with 3D porous structure and excellent electrical conductivity stability.

GC-MS-based metabolomics for the profiling of bioactive compounds in four Lamiaceae plants with multiple bioactive potentials

Yang Weizong,Sheng Tao,Zheng Yutao,Ma Yunwen,Cao Jiajie,Zhao Pan,Xin Ziwei

Lamiaceae aromatic plants are widely recognized for their diverse secondary metabolites and have promising antioxidant applications in pharmacology, medicine, food, cosmetology, and aromatherapy. This study systematically evaluated the volatile secondary metabolite compositions of essential oils (EOs) and hydrosols (HDs) from four Lamiaceae species— Lavandula angustifolia (La), Origanum vulgare (Ov), Mentha spicata (Ms), and Salvia sclarea (Ss), as well as antioxidant activities including DPPH, ABTS, FRAP, and ORAC, and tyrosinase inhibitory activity. A total of 205 volatile compounds were identified. Terpenoids dominated all EOs, while HDs were enriched in alcohols and hydrocarbons. Multivariate analyses, including principal component analysis (PCA), hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA), and orthogonal partial least square discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA), clearly separated EOs from HDs, confirming the extraction method as a key determinant. Antioxidant assays revealed that OvEO and OvHD consistently exhibited superior performance across DPPH, ABTS, FRAP, and ORAC assays. For tyrosinase inhibition, EOs were substantially more effective than HDs, with OvEO showing the strongest inhibition (82%), followed by LaEO (69.8%). Correlation analysis identified carvacrol, thymol, and γ-terpinene as key contributors to radical scavenging, while α-bourbonene, Germacrene D, and dihydrocarvone were associated with tyrosinase inhibitory activity. The broad-spectrum bioactivities of the studied Lamiaceae EOs and HDs suggest their potential as natural ingredients for further investigation in various industrial applications. Overall, these findings indicate that both EOs and HDs from Lamiaceae plants, particularly O. vulgare , warrant further exploration as potential whitening additives in cosmetic formulations or might be used as bleaching agents in food systems.

Hybrid Metal–ceramic Fiber Frameworks Based on Designs of Metallic Coatings for High-temperature Resistant Temperature–pressure Sensing

Xu Zijian,Hou Chao,Liu Yichen,Lyu Ying,Ling Jinghui,Zeng Chong,Zhu Yanchen,Bai Yunzhao,Yuan Li,He Dingfeng,Ma Yinji,Yin Zhouping,Huang YongAn,Li Kan

Extreme thermal environments demand sensors with two mutually exclusive properties: flexibility (to conform curved surfaces and withstand dynamic stress) and high-temperature tolerance (to avoid degradation above 400 °C). However, existing polymer-based flexible sensors are thermally unstable, and conventional high-temperature sensors of ceramic and metal are inflexible. Herein, we address this challenge with a hybrid metal–ceramic framework of Pt x Au 1−x coated ZrO 2 -Al 2 O 3 nanofibers (Pt x Au 1−x @ZANF), enabling flexible dual-functional temperature–pressure sensing up to 800 °C. Systematic studies on solid-state dewetting, nano-grain melting, and phase stability identified Au-rich Pt 0.15 Au 0.85 as optimal: it retains a single face-centered cubic phase and low resistivity (< 1 order of magnitude increase) after 2 h at 800 °C in air, outperforming pure Pt/Au and Pt-rich alloys (prone to phase separation/spheroidization). Laser-patterned electrodes on Pt 0.15 Au 0.85 @ZANF yield a dual-functional temperature–pressure sensor, which exhibits both high-temperature resistance and flexibility. The sensor exhibited a sensitivity range of 0.019 kPa −1 to 0.054 kPa −1 and demonstrated stability over 360 cycles (≥ 3 h) at 800 °C, far exceeding the maximum operating temperature of other reported temperature–pressure sensors (≤ 300 °C). This framework combines flexibility and high-temperature tolerance, two essential properties for reliable sensing on curved industrial robot joints, chemical plant reactors, and spacecraft surfaces. Novel ZIF-67/BC/β-CD bio-based nanocomposite for sustainable removal of tetracycline from polluted water

Eltaweil Abdelazeem S.,Alzain Rania,Fawzy Manal,El-Monaem Eman M. Abd,Elmaghrabi Nourhan

Antibiotic pollution poses significant ecological and human health risks in aquatic environments, making their removal an urgent environmental challenge. This study presents the development of an eco-friendly and efficient adsorbent fabricated from Hyphaene thebaica plant biochar along with Zeolitic imidazolate framework and Beta-cyclodextrin (ZIF-67/BC-β-CD). The fabricated ZIF-67/BC-β-CD nanocomposite demonstrates remarkable mechanical, thermal, and chemical stability as confirmed via different characterization techniques, including Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, zeta potential, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. To examine the adsorption ability and optimize the performance of ZIF-67/BC-β-CD nanocomposite, a series of adsorption experiments of tetracycline (TC) were conducted. Results revealed that the maximum adsorption capacity of ZIF-67/BC-β-CD nanocomposite for TC is 294.11 mg.g − 1 at 25 ℃ and pH 5. The findings clarified that the process followed a pseudo-second-order kinetics model with a good fit to the Freundlich isotherm, rather than the Langmuir isotherm, suggesting a combination of physical and chemical adsorption. The adsorption of TC onto ZIF-67/BC-β-CD was found to be governed by a combination of physisorption (electrostatic, hydrophobic, and π–π interactions) and chemisorption (hydrogen bonding and n–π electron donor–acceptor interactions). Furthermore, the adsorbent demonstrated significant regeneration potential after five successive cycles, proving its potential to be used as a sustainable and efficient adsorbent for treating water contaminated with antibiotics.

Highly ordered, ultra-dense intermetallic nanocrystals extend heavy-duty fuel cell projected lifetime beyond 240,000 h

Ding Liang,Yao Ze-Cheng,Tang Tang,Wan Xin,Liu Xiaozhi,Jiang Zhe,Fu Jiaju,Shi Zhuo-Qi,Tai Jing,Lyu Zhen-Hua,Dong Jichen,Li Qing,Su Dong,Shui Jianglan,Hu Jin-Song,Wan Li-Jun

High-performance cathode catalysts are essential for proton-exchange membrane fuel cells. Intermetallic nanocrystals are promising candidates but suffer from intrinsic activity–durability trade-offs because their comprehensive catalytic properties are determined by several intertwined structural factors that cannot be optimized independently by existing synthesis techniques. The challenge lies in the inherent thermodynamic and kinetic constraints during synthesis. Here we develop a decoupled synthesis strategy that leverages block-copolymer micelle confinement, which enables the customized synthesis of libraries of intermetallic nanocrystals, simultaneously achieving ultra-small size, ultra-high ordering degree, tailorable loading density, narrow size distribution, compositional uniformity, and broad compositional and substrate universality. The developed Pt 3 Co intermetallic nanocrystal/Ketjenblack catalyst achieves a rated power density of 1.08 W cm −2 and 92% rated power retention after 30,000 cycles under light-duty-vehicle conditions and 900 h of stable operation at 10 A. It also delivered a 70.2% cell efficiency without degradation and 98.4% specific power retention after 90,000 cycles of heavy-duty-vehicle applications. This performance led us to project a lifetime of 240,000 h.
