Al powder is prone to oxidation, which can introduce impurities in powder metallurgy. In this study, Al 2 O 3 nanonetworks were obtained by destroying the oxide layer through Paulse Activated Sintering (PAS). The network and the nano-precipitation enhance the mechanical properties of Al-Cu-O composites. TEM analysis revealed the formation of CuAl 2 and an Al 2 O 3 network at the grain boundaries. The current facilitated the modulation of the intermetallic compound size and the fragmentation of the oxide layer. The current-induced discharge at the particle interfaces generated localized heating. Higher temperature effectively disrupts the oxide layer. The Al 2 O 3 network improved the fracture toughness of the Al-Cu-O composites by passivating crack propagation. Simultaneously, the current reduced the nucleation barrier for precipitation by promoting directional atomic migration. Uniformly dispersed nano-precipitates are conducive to the improvement of strength. This study provides new insights into oxidation-related challenges in Al powder.

The catalytic conversion of bio-ethanol to butanol is a pivotal reaction for producing renewable fuels and chemicals from non-edible biomass. Developing non-noble metal-based catalysts that exhibit high activity and stability is of great importance, yet remains a substantial challenge. Herein, Cu/LDH catalyst (Cu supported on MgAl layered double hydroxide), was synthesized via simple impregnation without further calcination, and demonstrated for the activity enhancement of ethanol-to-butanol reaction with superior conversion/yield than previous reports of LDH-derived materials. The catalytic activity of Cu/LDH-150(Red) catalyst is attributed to the interaction between Cu and LDH, induced by the pre-reduction during synthesis. It has been further revealed that the Cu species provides redox sites for dehydrogenation/hydrogenation reactions, promoting the critical initial reaction step ethanol dehydrogenation to acetaldehyde. And pre-reduction of Cu/LDH catalyst facilitates the reduction of Cu 2+ to Cu 0 /Cu + and promotes the incorporation of Cu into the interlayer of LDH, as evidenced by XPS and mechanistic validation with acetaldehyde feed, responsible for the activity enhancement. Graphical A non-noble Cu/MgAl-LDH catalyst, synthesized via simple impregnation without calcination, efficiently converts bio-ethanol to butanol. Pre-reduction enhances activity by generating Cu 0 /Cu + species and structural integration, providing redox sites for key ethanol dehydrogenation to acetaldehyde. This design offers a high-performance, stable catalyst for renewable fuels.

As conductive fillers, the uniformity and compactness of composite metal powders are crucial for preparing high-performance conductive pastes. In this study, a self-circulating electroplating method was proposed, which could efficiently deposit Sn plating on the seed of Cu micro-flakes to prepare composite metal powders. The effects of total electroplating time, single electroplating time, loading mass of Cu seeds on the cathode support, and the bath temperature on Sn plating layer have been systematically investigated and optimized. And the influence mechanisms of electroplating parameters on coating coverage, compactness, and uniformity of Sn plating layer were proposed. The Sn-coated Cu micro-flakes with compact plating layer of 142.9 nm thickness were obtained with the total electroplating time of 60 min, the single electroplating time of 3 min, and the loading mass of Cu seeds of 18 mg/cm 2 at the bath temperature of 15 °C. Finally, the as-prepared Sn-coated Cu micro-flakes were used as fillers to prepare conductive pastes, which exhibited good antioxidation performance at 85℃ and 85%R.H. Graphical abstract

An interesting, simple, and label-free strategy for the detection of hydrogen peroxide and glucose has been developed with polyethyleneimine (PEI)-capped copper nanoclusters as a fluorescence probe in aqueous solution. The PEI-templated Cu nanoclusters which we have synthesized have an average diameter of 1.8 nm and show a blue emission at 480 nm. In the presence of hydrogen peroxide, the fluorescence of the Cu nanoclusters is quenched. Similarly, glucose oxidase catalyzes the oxidation of glucose to gluconic acid and H 2 O 2 , so we can also use this probe to detect glucose. Because of the high zymolyte specificity of glucose oxidase, the detection of glucose has good selectivity. Under the optimized experimental conditions, the linear ranges for H 2 O 2 and glucose are 0.5–10 μM and 10–100 μM, respectively. And the detection limits for H 2 O 2 and glucose are 0.4 and 8 μM, respectively. Furthermore, we discussed the mechanism of fluorescence quenching which is caused by the interaction between H 2 O 2 and Cu nanoclusters. This sensing system has been applied successfully to the detection of glucose in human serum samples.

To find an alternative adsorbent with high adsorption performance, KIT-6 was prepared by hydrothermal crystallization synthesis using tetraethyl orthosilicate as a silicon source and triblock copolymer P123 as a template. Then the silane coupling agent (3-chloropropyl)trimethoxysilane was first grafted onto KIT-6 mesoporous material and then the polyethyleneimine (PEI) was further grafted through the substitution reaction between amino groups and chlorine atoms. The functionalized KIT-6 was denoted as PEI/KIT-6. The samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), N2 adsorption–desorption, elemental analysis (EA), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA). The Cu2+ adsorption performance was determined by inductively coupled plasma (ICP). The results showed that the average loading of the amino groups was 3.74 mmol g−1, and the modified KIT-6 still has a stable mesoporous structure without pore blockage. With the dosage of 1 g L−1 PEI/KIT-6 and at room temperature, the optimum pH value for adsorption of 100 mg L−1 Cu2+ was 6.0. The adsorption capacity of PEI/KIT-6 for Cu2+ increased with the increase of reaction temperature, and the maximum adsorption capacity of Cu2+ was 36.43 mg g−1. The adsorption capacity tends to reach equilibrium after 120 min, and the optimum adsorption temperature was 35 °C. The pseudo-second-order kinetic model was found to be well suited for the adsorption process of Cu2+. Adsorption equilibrium data could also be described well by the classical Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models. The adsorption tends to be the chemisorption of a monolayer.

The diatomic catalysts (DACs) provide a new strategy for efficient catalysis of CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) owing to their maximum atomic utility and more flexible active sites. However, it is still challenging to precisely design heteronuclear diatomic active centers and understand the coordination mechanism of binary sites at the atomic level. Herein, a nitrogen-doped carbon matrix with precisely controlled Fe–Cu diatom sites is synthesized through a metal–organic framework. The as-obtained Fe/Cu–N–C catalyst exhibits an excellent CO faradaic efficiency (>95% over a wide potential range of −0.4 to −1.1 V vs. RHE, 99.2% at −0.8 V vs. RHE), a high turnover frequency (5047 h−1 at −1.1 V vs. RHE), and a low overpotential (50 mV), thus outperforming most reported atomically dispersed catalysts. Further density functional theory calculations indicate that the synergy between Fe–Cu diatoms causes rapid charge transfer and effectively adjusts the position of the d-band center, which reduces the energy barriers for *COOH formation and *CO desorption. This work provides a new approach for advancing universal synthesis strategies to construct heteronuclear diatomic catalysts and explore synergistic effects.

Zirconium-based porphyrinic MOFs (PMOFs, MOF = metal-organic framework) have gained considerable attention in the field of electric/thermo/photo-catalysis as heterogeneous single-site catalysts; however, the study on multisite synergistic catalysis of PMOFs are rare. Herein, we have successfully developed a highly regio- and stereo-selective synthetic method of ( E )- β -vinylboronates through hydroboration of alkynes using PCN-222 (Cu, PCN = porous coordination network) as multifunctional heterogeneous catalyst. Compared with homogeneous catalytic system, high TOF value is achieved in the developed method, originating from the synergistic effect of central Cu(II) ions, N atoms of porphyrin rings and terminal –OH groups on Zr-nodes. Notably, density functional theory (DFT) study reveals that five-membered “Cu-N-B-C-C” ring is the key species responsible for the hydroboration process with specific selectivity.

The advancement of cost-effective and selective electrocatalyst towards CO 2 to CO conversion is crucial for renewable energy conversion and storage, thus to achieve carbon-neutral cycle in a sustainable manner. In this communication, we report that Cu 2 Sb decorated Cu nanowire arrays on Cu foil act as a highly active and selective electrocatalyst for CO 2 to CO conversion. In CO 2 -saturated 0.1 M KHCO 3 , it achieves a high Faraday efficiency (FE) of 86.5% for CO, at −0.90 V vs. reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE). The H 2 /CO ratio is tunable from 0.08:1 to 5.9:1 by adjusting the potential. It is worth noting that HCOO − product was totally suppressed on such catalyst, compared with Sb counterpart. The improving selectivity for CO could be attributed to the bimetallic effect and nanowire arrays structure.

Catalytic reduction of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) to 4-aminophenol (4-AP) over high-performance non-noble metal catalysts is attracting intensive attention. Herein, we report a graphene supported Cu@Ni bimetallic nanowires catalyst by a facile liquid phase reduction method with the assistance of an external magnetic field. The morphology and structure of the composite are studied by SEM, TEM and XPS. The vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) is used to analyze its magnetic properties . Owing to the synergistic effect of graphene and bimetallic nanowires, the catalyst shows superior catalytic performance and excellent stability. The results of catalysis exhibit an extraordinary rate constant (1.16 min −1 ) and activity factor (5.81 min −1 mg −1 ) at room temperature, which are much higher than a majority of non-noble metal catalysts, even noble metal catalysts. Also, compared with noble metal catalyst, the novel catalyst possesses ferromagnetism , which facilitates the separation of catalyst and reaction system, and guarantees recyclability. Moreover, a possible synergistic catalytic mechanism based on the fact that electron transfer between copper-nickel nanowires and graphene has been proposed. It is believed that the novel catalyst has a great importance for the application of nanowires in the field of catalysis.

Counter-cations are essential components of polyoxometalates (POMs), which have a distinct influence on the solubility, stabilization, self-assembly, and functionality of POMs. To investigate the roles of cations in the packing of POMs, as a systematic investigation, herein, a series of triol-ligand covalently modified Cu-centered Anderson-Evans POMs with different counter ions were prepared in an aqueous solution and characterized by various techniques including single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Using the strategy of controlling Mo sources, in the presence of triol ligand, NH4+, Cu2+and Na+were introduced successfully into POMs. When (NH4)6Mo7O24was selected, the counter cations of the produced POMs were ammonium ions, which resulted in the existence of clusters in the discrete state. Additionally, with the modulation of the pH of the solutions, the modified sites of triol ligands on the cluster can be controlled to form δ- or χ-isomers. By applying MoO3in the same reaction, Cu2+ions served as linkers to connect triol-ligand modified polyanions into chains. When Na4Mo8O26was employed as the Mo source to react with triol ligands in the presence of CuCl2, two 2-D networks were obtained with {Na4(H2O)14} or {{Na2(H2O)4} sub-clusters as linkers, where the building blocks were δ/δ- and χ/χ-isomers, respectively. The present investigation reveals that the charges, sizes and coordination manners of the counter cations have an obvious influence on the assembled structure of polyanions.Keywords:polyoxometalate;Anderson-Evans;triol ligand;cation-modulation

A hybrid Cu2O/TiO2 composite loaded on a Cu mesh (Cu2O/TiO2@Cu mesh) was developed via a supercritical solvothermal route. A uniformly distributed Cu2O/TiO2 p–n hetero-junction was stably coated on a Cu mesh, benefiting the visible-light harvesting. In comparison to electrochemistry and visible-light photocatalysis, the photoelectrochemistry process on the photoanode of the Cu2O/TiO2@Cu mesh presented improved bacterial inactivation activity for Acinetobacter baumannii. By means of the main active species of ˙O2− radicals, the photoelectrocatalytic process on the Cu2O/TiO2@Cu mesh also realized complete leakage of K+ ions, much stronger mineralization of the cell membrane and more efficient elimination of the self-recovery function, finally leading to cell death. In comparison, the electrochemistry process only led to the leakage of K+ ions without inactivation of bacteria, and the visible-light photocatalysis process induced partial leakage of K+ ions and cell mineralization after the death of most bacteria.

Multicomponent polymerization has emerged as a promising strategy to develop functional polymers with versatile structures. In this work, a Cu-catalyzed four-component polymerization was developed using diynes, sulfonyl azides, nucleophiles, and a variety of electrophiles including alkyl glyoxylates, nitroalkenes, and Morita–Baylis–Hillman adducts to successfully synthesize a library of α-functionalized poly(N-sulfonylimidates)s with a wide substrate scope and high molecular weights (up to 20 000 g mol−1) in high yields (up to 86%). Such α-functionalized poly(N-sulfonylimidates)s could be further post-modified or utilized for the design of multi-functional and biodegradable polymers.
