AKI-to-CKD progression is shaped by sustained tubular stress, ferroptosis-related iron imbalance, and oxidative injury. To target this process, we developed an MHY1485-loaded molybdenum oxide (MoOx) nanozyme coated with a pH-responsive phenylboronic acid-polyethylene glycol-phenylboronic acid (PBA-PEG-PBA) polymer (MHY@MO@PPP). We tested whether this platform could weaken the ferroptosis-associated injury loop and delay AKI-to-CKD transition through regulation of the Fe 2+ -mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1)-glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) axis. Material properties were examined by dynamic light scattering (DLS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Biological activity was assessed in erastin-induced ferroptotic human renal proximal tubular epithelial (HK-2) cells and in a C57BL/6 mouse unilateral ischemia-reperfusion injury (UIRI) model. MHY@MO@PPP showed stimulus-responsive MHY1485 release under simulated lesion-like conditions, lowered reactive oxygen species (ROS), lipid peroxidation, and free Fe 2+ , restored mitochondrial function, and improved cell survival. Mechanistic assays showed increased p-mTOR and GPX4 expression with reduced autophagy-related stress, supporting attenuation of the ferroptosis-related feedback state. Proteomic analysis and functional intervention experiments further implicated the Fe 2+ -mTORC1-GPX4 axis in the protective response. In vivo, MHY@MO@PPP improved renal function and reduced renal tissue injury and fibrosis. These findings support a nanozyme-based strategy that combines catalytic redox regulation with pathway modulation to mitigate AKI-to-CKD progression. Graphical abstract

In Fenton-like processes, achieving rapid and efficient redox cycling of metal active centers remains a challenge. This study presents an innovative strategy that harnesses the mechanical energy of water flow to drive the redox cycling of metal active centers. Herein, Fe 3 O 4 /MoS 2 heterojunction with interfacial Mo-S-Fe bridge bonds was constructed via a one-step hydrothermal method. Under the stimulation induced by water-flow mechanical, the piezoelectric effect of MoS 2 generates charge carriers, which are rapidly directed to Fe active sites through the Mo-S-Fe bonds. This process significantly accelerates the Fe(III)/Fe(II) cycle and enhances H 2 O 2 activation, achieving 93.8% removal of sulfamethoxazole (SMX) within 60 min under water flow stimulation. The composite exhibits robust performance across a broad pH range (3.0-10.7) and in the presence of humic acid (HA) and coexisting anions, demonstrating its strong environmental adaptability. Spectroscopic evidence confirmed the formation of Mo-S-Fe bonds at the heterojunction interface. Mechanistic studies further revealed that the structure improves charge separation, promotes rapid electron transfer from MoS 2 to Fe sites, and strengthens H 2 O 2 adsorption, thereby synergistically boosting reactive oxygen species (ROSs) generation and the overall catalytic efficiency. This study proposes an innovative strategy that exploits mechanical forces generated by water flow to drive rapid redox cycling of active metal centers in Fenton-like reactions.

In this work, an S-scheme heterojunction-structured composite, g-C 3 N 4 /Mo-doped WO 3 (mass ratio 100:5, labeled 5M15WOCN) together with pure WO 3 , g-C 3 N 4 , and Mo-doped WO 3 (labeled M15WO) was prepared. The as-prepared samples were characterized by XRD , UV–Vis DRS, SEM, TEM, ESR , EIS , PL and XPS . The photocatalytic properties were investigated by photodegrading methyl orange (MO). The following findings were obtained. The dopant Mo increased the amount of O v -s and produced W 5+ , along with prolonging the lifetime of photogenerated carriers, improving the transfer ability of carriers. The S-scheme heterojunction g-C 3 N 4 /M15WO drastically improved the photocatalytic properties, dominantly due to the synergetic effect of the O v -s, S-scheme mechanism and very negative CB potential. A new phenomenon is found in which W 6+ can combine with the net electrons coming from the side with a higher Fermi level in the heterojunction and form W 5+ , suggesting a good method for stabilizing the high valence state for the material by combining one with a lower Fermi level. This work also implies that, compared to the S-scheme, a more negative CB is much more beneficial for MO photodegradation .

Co-Mo sulfide catalysts with different particle size and structures were prepared in ethanol-water mixed solvent followed by a low-temperature sulfurization process, and were tested in dibenzothiophene hydrodesulfurization . The effects of the ethanol/water ratio on the particle size of precursors, active phase composition, active site number, morphology, and hydrodesulfurization activity of the final catalysts were investigated. The atomic ratio of Co/Mo and active phase morphology of catalysts closely relate to the dielectric constant of ethanol-water mixed solvent. Appropriate dielectric constant favors the formation of (Co)MoS 2 slabs with shorter length (∼ 5.0 nm) and higher stacking number (∼ 4.3 layers), resulting in more coordinatively unsaturated sites, especially in the corner sites. The catalytic activity not only depends on the active sites of CoMoS phase, but also on that of Co 9 S 8 and MoS 2 phases because of synergistic effect. For MoS 2 and CoMoS phases, the corner sites show higher direct desulfurization activity than the edge sites.

The co-deposition behavior of Co(II) and Mo(VI) in N,N-dimethylformamide and ethylene glycol system is observed. The result implies that Co–Mo co-deposition is typical induced deposition, while containing ordinary deposition process . Mo(VI) species in the system can suppress the reduction of Co(II) and its effect can be improved as the increase of Mo(VI) concentration, however, Co(II) species can promote the reduction of Mo(VI) and the effect can also be improved as the increase of Co(II) concentration. SEM micrographs indicate that all these films exhibit a fibrous surface morphology with a new fluffy microstructure. XRD pattern reveals that the Co–Mo film is a Mo solid solution in Co and its average size of crystalline grain is 9.5 nm. In addition, the electrocatalytic activity for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) on these Co–Mo films is investigated. These results indicate that its electrocatalytic activity can be improved as Mo content increases from 1.02 to 2.84 wt% and the prepared Co–Mo film with 2.84 wt% Mo presents a high electrocatalytic activity and stability for HER with an overpotential of 81 mV at 10 mA cm −2 .

Herein, we demonstrate a Mo/S co-doped BiOBr-based bimetal bismuth sulfur-oxybromide (Mo/S-BiOBr) catalyst with heterovalent molybdenum states and abundant oxygen vacancy defects for photocatalytic hydrogen evolution (PHER) via a facile method. Mo/S co-doping adjusts the energy band structure of BiOBr and expands its visible light absorption. Hydrazine regulates the molybdenum with heterovalent states while endowing Mo/S-BiOBr with oxygen vacancy defects to balance the valence-charge deviations from electrical neutrality induced by Mo6+ → Mo4+. These oxygen-vacancy defects act as active sites for capturing water molecules and activating the H–O–H bond to produce protons for hydrogen generation. The heterovalent Mo6+/Mo4+ states act as photogenerated electron hosts to hop fast between Mo6+ and Mo4+, facilitating efficient electron transfer for the PHER. The hybridization between S 3p and O 2p orbitals improves the stability of continuous PHER. The hydrazine-regulated Mo/S-BiOBr-3 with an optimal n(Mo4+)/n(Mo4+ + Mo6+) ratio and abundant oxygen vacancy defects exhibit an excellent PHER activity of 710.5 μmol h−1 at a catalyst weight of 50 mg and an apparent quantum efficiency (AQE) of 13.9% at 420 nm. After six recycles, the H2 yield of Mo/S-BiOBr-3 decreased by only about 3.5%, indicating its good stability and durability. This work provides a practical approach to using bismuth-based oxyhalides in the PHER.

A method has been developed for the determination of zirconium (Zr), hafnium (Hf), niobium (Nb), tantalum (Ta), molybdenum (Mo), tungsten (W), and tin (Sn) in seawater by quadrupole inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (Q-ICP-MS). The method is based on separation of the seven elements by extraction chromatography using N-benzoyl-N-phenylhydroxylamine (BPHA) supported on a microporous acrylic ester polymeric resin. The optimized procedure indicates that the BPHA resin has high selective adsorption for Zr, Nb, Mo, Sn, Hf, Ta, and W (known as fluoride soluble elements), whereas other interference and matrix elements are minimally adsorbed. The optimized eluent mixture with their molarity gives satisfactory recoveries for all analytes. The recovery can be achieved 99% for Zr, 97% for Nb, 97% for Mo, 99% for Sn, 99% for Hf, 95% for Ta, and 98% for W, respectively, by eluting with 6 mL of 6 mol L − 1 HF/1 mol L − 1 HCl. Furthermore, the technique for separation and enrichment of these elements provides a low total method blank. The detection limits for this method are 0.5 ppt for Zr, 0.2 ppt for Nb, 1.7 ppt for Mo, 1.0 ppt for Sn, 0.1 ppt for Hf, 0.1 ppt for Ta, and 0.3 ppt for W, respectively. The validity of the method is evaluated by replicate analyses of seawater reference materials; the precision of the results is better than 3% (RSD, n = 4), and the results are in good agreement with certified values. The established procedure has proved to be both practical and effective for seawater sample analyses.

The high interfacial charge transfer barrier has been a primary thermodynamic obstacle in enhancing the catalytic performance of heterojunction materials. Optimizing the interfacial environment is a promising strategy to attain superior catalytic efficiency. Hence, a Bi/Bi2MoO6/Bi24O31Br10 (Bi/BMO/BOB) composite photocatalyst was constructed by introducing a Bi–O–Mo bridge bond between the BMO and BOB interfaces and modifying metal active sites on the surface of the complex. Bi/BMO/BOB has a good capacity for CO2 photoreduction to CO. The CO yield of the Bi/BMO/BOB photocatalyst is 68.29 μmol g−1 h−1, which is obviously higher than those of the pristine BMO and BOB. As proved by density functional theory (DFT) calculations and experimental characterization, the Bi–O–Mo interface bridge bond adjusts the electronic structure of the contact interface and enhances the interface charge separation and transport rate. Moreover, the metal Bi nanoparticles synthesized through in situ reduction not only realize electron transfer and storage as electron collectors, but also strengthen the adsorption of CO2 molecules. The synergistic action of the two can allow the effective transfer of photogenerated electrons from BMO to BOB, which then accumulate on Bi. Such stepwise transfer of electrons increases the speed of photocatalytic reduction processes that involve multiple electrons, and effectively reduces the reaction energy barrier in the process of CO2 reduction. This mode of interatomic electron transfer bridges combined with the metal active sites not only solves the stability issues in bismuth-based semiconductors, but also aids in the development of more efficient photocatalytic systems for reduction of CO2.

Spent petroleum refining catalyst is regarded as the important secondary resource for valuable metals. However, common recycling strategies, including soda roasting, acid and alkaline solutions leaching and chemically precipitation, produced large quantities of high salinity wastewater. This study proposed an efficient method to recovery of Mo and Ni from the spent hydrodesulfurization (HDS) catalyst via O 2 -rich roasting and organic acid leaching with the advantage of less salinity wastewater production. The transformation of Mo(IV) into soluble Mo(VI) was enhanced by O 2 -rich atmosphere roasting, and 98.64% of Mo(IV) was oxidized at 650 ℃ for 2 h in atmosphere containing 30% of O 2 . The oxidation process of Mo(IV) was agreed with the shrinkage pore model, and regulated by surface reaction and internal diffusion. 97.97% of Mo(VI) was leached from roasted product by oxalic acid , separated with complexation extraction agent of Ala-TBP and recovered as (NH 4 ) 8 Mo 10 O 34 and (NH 4 ) 2 Mo 3 O 10 by evaporative crystallization. Ni was leached out from spent catalyst with 1 mol/L acetic acid, and precipitated as NiC 2 O 4 with oxalic acid . 95.92% of Mo and 96.77% of Ni were recovered from spent HDS catalyst with this recycling route. This study provided a high-efficient and eco-friendly method to recovery of valuable metals from spent catalyst.

Mustard gas is a kind of erosive poison with great harm and used as a chemical weapon since World War. It has suggested that the photocatalytic technology is an effective method to eliminate it. Because the small difference in molecular structure between 2-CEES and Mustard gas, and the less toxic of 2-CEES, 2-CEES is often used as a simulator to evaluate the photocatalytic activity of catalysts. In this work, symbiotic mixture of Bi 2 WO 6 and Bi 6 O 6 (OH) 3 (NO 3 ) 3 ·1.5H 2 O nanosheets doped with Mo (Mo-B-B) have been synthesized by a facile hydrothermal treatment. The samples were characterized by XRD, DRS, XPS, SEM, TEM, Raman, and PL. The photocatalytic activity of the samples was evaluated by measuring the degradation of 2-CEES under visible light irradiation. The results showed that the doped Mo reduce the Eg of bare symbiotic mixture and improve the separation efficiency of photo-generated carriers that is beneficial to photocatalytic activity. The optimum amount of doped Mo is 5% that exhibits the best activity for degradation for 2-CEES.

Phthalic acid esters (PAEs) pose serious health risks to humans and are difficult to remove by conventional sewage treatment processes. Herein, Fe 2 Mo 3 O 8 /MoO 2 /Mo 2 N composite (FMON) derived from bimetallic organic framework was used to activate peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for dibutyl phthalate (DBP) degradation. FMON exhibited an excellent catalytic effect with DBP removal efficiency of 92.4 % within 60 min. Mo 2 N showed a superior ability in promoting Fe 3+ /Fe 2+ redox cycle. The reduction efficiencies of Fe 3+ by Mo 2 N/MoO 2 composite and MoO 2 were 67 %–94 % and 11 %–23 %, respectively, in the homogeneous comparative experiment. Moreover, the ratio of Fe 2+ /Fe 3+ in FMON increased significantly after the catalytic reaction. Fe element doping also enhanced the reuse stability and reduced the metal ion leaching of the catalyst. The degradation of DBP was mediated by a variety of reactive species, of which SO 4 − , OH and O 2 − were dominant. Fe element, Mo element and O vacancies were confirmed to exert significant contributions as active sites in the catalytic process. Three degradation pathways of DBP were obtained by DFT calculation and HPLC-MS analysis. And the toxicity of DBP degradation products was significantly reduced based on the assessment result of Toxicity Estimation Software Tool (T.E.S.T.). This study explored a novel Fe/Mo bimetallic catalyst with friendly Fe 3+ /Fe 2+ cycling for environmental catalysis and provided new ideas for the treatment of PAEs wastewater.

Cellulose plays a significant role in designing efficient and stable cellulose-based metallic catalysts, owing to its surface functionalities. Its hydroxyl groups are used as anchor sites for the nucleation and growth of metallic nanoparticles and, as a result, improve the stability and catalytic activity. Meanwhile, cellulose is also amenable to surface modifications to be more suitable for incorporating and stabilizing metallic nanoparticles. Herein, the Ag-/Bi-doped Mo(S,O)3 trimetallic sulfo-oxide anchored on B and N codoped cellulose (B–N–C) synthesized by a facile approach showed excellent stability and catalytic activity for PHER at 573.28 μmol/h H2 with 25 mg of catalyst under visible light, and 92.3% of the 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) reduction was achieved within 135 min by in situ-generated protons. In addition to B and N codoping, our use of the calcination method for B–N–C preparation further increases the structural disorders and defects, which act as anchoring sites for Ag-/Bi-doped Mo(S,O)3 nanoparticles. The Ag-/Bi-doped Mo(S,O)3@B–N–C surface active site also stimulates H2O molecule adsorption and activation kinetics and reduces the photogenerated charge carrier’s recombination rate. The Mo4+ → Mo6+ electron hopping transport and the O 2p and Bi 6s orbital overlap facilitate the fast electron transfer by enhancing the electron’s lifetime and photoinduced charge carrier mobility, respectively. In addition to acting as a support, B–N–C provides a highly conductive network that enhances charge transport, and the relocated electron in B–N–C activates the H2O molecule, which enables Ag-/Bi-doped Mo(S,O)3@B–N–C to have appreciable PHER performance.
