Spent LIB black mass is a highly heterogeneous mixture, and its compositional complexity remains a key barrier to efficient and sustainable circularity of energy materials. Here, we propose an enhanced gas-phase recovery route integrating pyrolysis-gas reduction with CO 2 -carbonated water leaching for LiCoO 2 black-mass recycling. Biomass-derived reducing gases, together with intrinsic graphite, cooperatively tune the reducing atmosphere, oxygen potential, and phase evolution, while graphite acts as an in situ carbon source to drive secondary gas equilibria and gas-solid reactions, reshaping the CO/CO 2 /H 2 /CH 4 composition and stabilizing Li as Li 2 CO 3 . Downstream, CO 2 -carbonated water enables selective Li dissolution via a reversible bicarbonate pathway, lowering water use and evaporation energy demand. An integrated electrochemical purification step rapidly removes trace dissolved Co from the carbonate leachate, supporting closed-loop operation and product purity. Validated using real smartphone black mass, the process delivers high recoveries (∼97%) of Li and Co as Li 2 CO 3 and Co 3 O 4 for LiCoO 2 batteries. This work offers energy-relevant insights for building low-energy, low-waste recycling pathways that improve material security and economic resilience. An integrated pyrolysis-gas reduction and CO 2 -carbonated water leaching strategy enables low-temperature, low-water recycling of spent LiCoO 2 black mass, achieving selective Li recovery and cleaner separation of Co-containing products. For efficient and low-energy CO 2 capture, developing adsorbents with stable performance is of paramount importance. In this study, a hierarchically porous monolithic solid amine adsorbent was successfully prepared. Amines are uniformly immobilized in the mesopores of this structure, while the macropores provide pathways for CO 2 mass transfer, thus endowing the adsorbent with both high adsorption capacity and fast adsorption kinetics. The CO 2 adsorption capacity of the 50 T-MS adsorbent reaches 137.2 mg g −1 under dry condition. Moreover, it remains as high as 137.0 mg g −1 after 50 adsorption-desorption cycles under 100% relative humidity, demonstrating favorable cyclic stability. Further research reveals that appropriate humidity not only enhances CO 2 adsorption capacity and reduces regeneration energy consumption, but also improves long-term stability by inhibiting the formation of urea by-products.

Epoxy resin is widely applied for its excellent mechanical properties and chemical stability, yet its intrinsic flammability greatly limits further applications. Herein, an intrinsically flame-retardant epoxy resin (PNDEP) with phthalonitrile and Schiff base structures was synthesized via a facile, efficient three-step reaction. Then, 4,4'-diaminodiphenylmethane (DDM) was adopted as the curing agent to obtain cured PNDEP/DDM resin through thermal curing. Compared with commercial bisphenol A diglycidyl ether (DGEBA) epoxy resin, cured PNDEP/DDM resin showed improved comprehensive performance, which was ascribed to the higher crosslinking density, as well as the rigid isoindoline and triazine structures formed. Notably, its glass transition temperature reached 214 °C, Young’s modulus hit 5630 MPa, and char yield at 700 °C achieved 56%. Moreover, PNDEP/DDM featured a distinctive gas-condensed phase synergistic flame-retardant mechanism. Non-combustible gases produced during combustion induced foaming to form a dense and robust 3D porous sponge-like char layer, thus endowing the material with excellent flame retardancy. Specifically, it passed the UL-94 V-0 vertical burning test. And its peak heat release rate and total heat release reduced by 88.8% and 84.2%, respectively, compared with that of DGEBA/DDM system. Owing to its superior comprehensive properties, cured PNDEP/DDM resin has broad prospects in high-end fields like electronic packaging and aerospace engineering.

When utilizing metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) sensors for gas mixtures detection, challenges such as low detection accuracy and susceptibility to interference from ambient humidity often arise. This research presents a method for effectively identifying gas mixtures in the presence of humidity interference. Using a single commercial sensor MQ3, dynamic response data for methanol-ethanol mixture was collected across various relative humidity levels through dynamic temperature modulation. Dynamic temperature modulation allows the sensor response to be extended in the time domain to include both gas concentration and humidity information. The linear discriminant analysis (LDA) method was used to suppress the humidity interference in the response, and the gas concentration information was retained to the greatest extent. Subsequently, the data was transformed into a two-dimensional matrix using the gramian angular field (GAF) algorithm, which was then fed into the self-developed multi-head feature extraction convolutional neural network (MFE-CNN) for concentration prediction. Experimental results demonstrate that this approach effectively reduces the impact of humidity interference, outperforming other control strategies. This method is anticipated to serve as a novel strategy for the detection of gas mixtures in the presence of humidity interference.

A compartmented droplet microreactor enables safe, all-liquid gas reactions. • It achieves high efficiency at ambient pressure without energy input. • Diverse droplet topology serves as a quantitative, real-time dial for kinetics. • Light/pH induce reversible on/off switching and in-situ product separation. • The system integrates reaction, control, and recycling sustainably. The widespread adoption of gas-liquid (G/L) reactions is constrained by intrinsic mass-transfer limitations and inherent difficulty in kinetic control, typically requiring energy-intensive conditions (high pressure, elevated temperature, vigorous agitation). Here, we present programmable compartmented droplet microreactors (CDMs) platform that overcomes these challenges by transforming G/L into liquid-liquid (L/L) reactions via a fluorocarbon-based liquid “gas reservoir”. The proposed CDMs enable efficient multiphasic reactions, achieving 83.7% conversion for benzaldehyde oxidation at conditions of ambient pressure, mild temperature (40 °C), and no stirring during reaction. The CDMs feature a dynamically reconfigurable “two-region, three-interface” architecture that allows the topology to be reversibly switched (double/Janus/inverted double) using light or pH stimuli. This topological tunability provides in-situ, programmable control over reaction kinetics (tunable between 0.3 and 9.2%·h −1 ) and enables triggered product separation with efficient solvent recycling by light stimuli (72% recovery over 4 cycles). This work presents a smart system that marries intrinsic process intensification with spatiotemporal control that combines rapid response with programmable kinetics, offering a versatile platform for conducting safe, efficient, and adaptive multiphase chemistry and offering a new approach to sustainable and intelligent reaction engineering. Humidity-tolerant
gas sensing remains a long-standing
challenge, as interfacial adsorption chemistry and charge transport
processes in metal oxides are intrinsically coupled to ambient humidity.
Here, we introduce a molecular programming strategy for oxide interfaces
enabled by polyoxometalate (POM)-assisted coaxial electrospinning,
in which preassembled metal–oxygen clusters function as chemically
addressable building units rather than conventional ionic precursors.
By spatially encoding distinct POMs into the core and shell of electrospun
nanofibers and inducing controlled solid-state conversion, hierarchical
oxide architectures with structurally coherent and chemically programmable
heterointerfaces are constructed. POM clusters enable interfacial
engineering during oxide formation owing to their well-defined nuclearity,
coordination geometry, and intrinsic acidity, which allow modulation
of the surface Lewis acidity, defect chemistry, and band alignment
beyond conventional single-metal salt precursors. Consequently, the
POM-derived MoO 3 shell establishes a preferential adsorption
environment for basic amine molecules while mitigating water adsorption
and hydroxyl-related surface processes. In parallel, the WO 3 core serves as an electronically continuous transport scaffold,
ensuring the efficient transduction of interfacial charge redistribution.
This separation of surface adsorption and bulk charge transport enables
a sensing mechanism primarily governed by surface chemistry, resulting
in humidity-tolerant and stable triethylamine responses across a wide
range of humidity. Beyond gas sensing, this work positions POM clusters
as a general platform for molecular-level programming of oxide interfaces,
offering new opportunities for designing functional materials with
environmentally robust interfacial behavior.

Solid-state hydrogen storage by gas hydrates offers a novel pathway for large-scale, static, and mild storage. However, its application is hindered by inherently low storage and sluggish formation rate. In this work, nanohydrogels were synthesized and systematically evaluated for their performance, recyclability, and kinetic promotion effect on H 2 /DIOX binary hydrates. The results demonstrate that both particle size and concentration of nanohydrogels significantly influence their promoting performance. In particular, nanohydrogel N3 at a concentration of 0.3 wt % exhibited the best performance, achieving a hydrogen storage capacity of 0.517 wt %, representing a 127.7% increase compared to the pure 1,3-dioxolane (DIOX) system. The hydrate growth rate was also enhanced by 106.3%, marking a substantial improvement in efficiency over traditional systems. In addition, the promotion effect remained stable over 10 cycles, indicating excellent durability and reusability. Raman spectroscopy indicates that the hydrate formed is of structure II, and its crystal structure is not affected by the nanohydrogels. In situ μ-DSC disclosed the intricate effects of nanohydrogels on crystallization and demonstrated the condition-dependent nature of their promotion performance. Moreover, distinct from traditional approaches that focus on altering hydrate structures, this novel hydrogel promotes hydrate-based hydrogen storage by a dual mechanism of interfacial regulation and enhanced hydrogen transport, offering a new understanding and technological pathway for efficient hydrate-based hydrogen storage. This study not only overcomes the efficiency bottleneck in hydrogen storage by hydrate but also contributes significantly to its widespread commercial applications by robust stability and economic viability.

Due to the significant economic losses and safety issues caused by gas pipeline leaks, timely detection of minor leaks in pipelines is crucial important. Herein, we present an intelligent liquid metal bubble generator (LMBG) chamber capable of converting mechanical leakage signals into real-time electrical feedback through the electrochemical conversion mechanism at the liquid metal interface. The proposed system exploits the intrinsic electric potential difference of a liquid metal (LM) and its oxide. The rupture of LM bubbles at leakage site activates a built-in galvanic cell between the metallic core and the oxide shell, achieving direct mechanoelectrical energy conversion. Notably, the system demonstrates sensitivity with linear voltage-volume (173.46 V·cm −3 ) and frequency-flow velocity (0.25 Hz·cm −1 ·s) correlations, as well as rapid response characteristics (0.33 s latency). Notably, the exceptional detection resolution for micro-leakages as small as 1.0×10 −3 cm 3 . This achievement in active sensing technology establishes a route for intelligent infrastructure monitoring, particularly providing a possible way for the critical need of leakage detection for gas pipelines.

Selenium(IV) (Se(IV)) supplementation was evaluated as a biostimulant to enhance m-dichlorobenzene (m-DCB) biodegradation in laboratory-scale biotrickling filters (BTFs) inoculated with Brevibacillus agri DH-1. An optimal Se(IV) concentration of 4.0 mg/L increased steady-state m-DCB removal efficiency from 74.38% to 81.74% at an empty bed residence time (EBRT) of 90 s. When the EBRT was reduced to 30 s, BTF2 maintained a 41.74% removal efficiency, compared with only 17.64% for BTF1. Se(IV) promoted extracellular polymeric substance production, strengthened biofilm adhesion, enhanced catechol-1,2- and catechol-2,3-dioxygenase activities, and moderated surface charge to favour microbial aggregation. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy confirmed Se(IV)-facilitated dechlorination and aromatic-ring cleavage, while 16S rRNA sequencing revealed enrichment of key degraders including Brevibacillus, Pseudomonas, Bacillus, Rhodanobacter, and Sphingobium. These findings demonstrate a novel micronutrient-based strategy to improve BTF performance for treating chlorinated aromatic exhaust gases.

Long-term exposure to xylene can seriously damage the respiratory and central nervous systems. Xylene poses significant health risks even at trace levels in the ppb range, highlighting the need for the ppb-level detection. Designing high-performance gas-sensitive materials and sensing structures is essential to address high operating temperatures and poor trace detection. In this work, PtPd nanobimetallic-sensitized CeO 2 porous nanospheres were prepared as the upper catalytic layer via solution self-assembly and impregnation, with WO 3 nanofibers as the lower sensing layer to form a bilayer sensor. The 1 wt%Pt 70 Pd 30 /CeO 2 /WO 3 sensor showed the best response (R a /R g = 38.67) to 10 ppm xylene at 180℃, and it demonstrates a obvious response to xylene at ultra-low concentrations down to 1 ppb (R a /R g = 1.4). The sensor also exhibits good stability and notable humidity resistance. By combining in-situ infrared and online mass spectrometry, we show that xylene is catalytically converted into toluene and methyl radicals upon passing through the 1 wt% Pt 70 Pd 30 /CeO 2 layer, significantly enhancing response performance. In summary, the novel bilayer sensor developed in this study enables trace xylene detection at the ppb level and shows potential for environmental monitoring applications.

Because of their excellent stability and photoelectric properties, perovskite single crystals have been widely applied in fields such as detection and photovoltaics. This study demonstrated a ligand-assisted gas pump method for perovskite crystallization, in which the influence of the pressure change rate on the morphology of perovskite crystals and the quality of ligand-assisted crystallization were investigated. CH3NH3PbBr3 single crystals were obtained via the gas pump method assisted with 3-(decyldimethylazaniumyl)propanesulfonate (DPSI) as the ligand for crystallization. With varying rates of environmental pressure variation, the (100) crystal surface exhibited a step-like growth process, and the steps were “center-initiated, outward-expanding”. When the pressure changes rapidly, the steps are wide and steep; as the pressure change rate gradually slows, the slope of the steps becomes gentler. When the growth rate reached 20 Pa/h, the crystal surface became flat, and the growth steps disappeared. The rate of pressure change enables control of the crystal step morphology. To further control crystal growth and quality, the DPSI ligand was employed during the crystal growth process under low-pressure conditions. The −SO3– group in DPSI anchors uncoordinated Pb2+, effectively suppressing solution nucleation. This interaction significantly enhances crystal quality, increases crystal stability, and effectively expands the size of MAPbBr3 crystals. The optimized MAPbBr3 detector achieved an outstanding X-ray sensitivity of up to 10798 μC Gyair–1 cm–2 at a bias of 50 V, along with a minimum detectable dose rate of 0.19 μGyair s–1 for 40 kVp X-rays. These advancements have contributed to reducing radiation exposure for patients during medical X-ray diagnostics. The methodology employed in this study enables the fabrication of high-quality crystals through controlled growth rate modulation, demonstrating significant potential for detector applications.

Noninvasive odor sensing is important in environmental monitoring and medical diagnosis. The two-dimensional material MXene is widely used due to its unique sensing properties but has limitations in specifically recognizing a certain gas. This study developed a bioinspired biosensor array (BBA) whose core mechanism involved programming MXene sensing interfaces through DNA base sequences to mimic molecular recognition principles of biological olfactory receptors. Integrated with machine learning algorithms, the BBA achieved preliminary identification of cancer patients by detecting exhaled gas samples from different populations. Starting from DNA molecular length, base type, and chemical modification, different DNAs were prepared and screened by orthogonal experiments to obtain five DNA/MXene composite biosensing materials with excellent sensing properties. Combined with pure MXene, a Six-channel bioinspired biosensor Array(6C-BBA) was established, and a neural network algorithm was utilized for the preliminary validation of the real odor molecules of fruits. Finally, the high-performance 6C-BBA was used to detect breath samples from stomach cancer patients, lung cancer patients, intestinal cancer patients, and healthy people, and the array showed 86.3, 94.1, 89.5, and 86.3% accuracy. This study could offer a specific method for advanced biosensor development and reveal important applications in early noninvasive recognition of diseases.
