A new high performance fluorescence assay for detection of Ag+based on CdS quantum dots (QDs) using L-Aspartic acid (L-Asp) as a stabilizer was proposed in this work. The CdS quantum dots conjugation with L-Aspartic acid (L-Asp@CdS QDs) were successfully synthesized via a simple hydrothermal process. The QDs have a fluorescence emission band maximum at 595 nm with a quantum yield of 11%. The obtained CdS QDs exhibit a particle size of 1.63 ± 0.28 nm and look like quantum dot flowers. Basically, the fluorescence intensity of L-Asp@CdS QDs can be enhanced only upon addition of Ag+and a redshift in the fluorescence spectrum was observed. Under optimum conditions, the fluorescence enhancement of L-Asp@CdS QDs appeared to exhibit a good linear relationship in between 100–7000 nM (R2= 0.9945) with the Ag+concentration, with a detection limit of 39 nM. The results indicated that the L-Asp@CdS QDs were well used in detection for Ag+as fluorescence probe in aqueous solution with high sensitivity and selectivity. Moreover, the sensing system has been applied in detection Ag+in real water samples. The recovery test results were 98.6%~113%, and relative standard deviation (n = 5) is less than 3.6%, which was satisfactory.Keywords:L-Aspartic acid;CdS quantum dots;fluorescence assay;Ag+detection;Fluorescence enhancement

The recovery of pectic polysaccharides with high rhamnogalacturonan I (RG-I) branches from citrus canning processing water was achieved in a previous study aimed at reducing chemical oxygen demand and benefiting both process economics and the environment. However, the large molecular size and poor in vivo bioavailability of these polysaccharides limit the application of these pectic polysaccharides in functional foods. We report the development of an ultrafast and green approach to depolymerize pectic polysaccharides using an ultrasound-accelerated metal-free Fenton chemistry , relying on H 2 O 2 /ascorbic acid. The results show that ultrasound enhances the efficiency of H 2 O 2 /ascorbic acid system to degrade pectin into 7.9 kDa pectic fragments within 30 min through both chemical effects (increasing the amount of hydroxyl radicals and lowering activation energy of H 2 O 2 decomposition) and mechanical effects (disaggregating polysaccharide clusters). The backbones of the resulting fragments mainly correspond to RG-I patterns (molar ratio galacturonic acid (GalA): rhamnose (Rha) ∼ 1.06:1) with a high degree of rhamnose branching. Free radicals preferentially act on the GalA backbone in the HG region and maintain the RG-I region. Antitumor activities, assessed using human breast cancer cells (MCF-7), suggest that the resulting fragments significantly inhibit cancer cell growth and that activity increases with decreasing molecular weight. The resulting ultralow molecular weight pectic fragments have potential application for the development of functional foods and antitumor drugs.

A reliable lateral flow immunoassay (LFIA) based on a facile one-step synthesis of single microspheres in combining with immunochromatography technique was developed to establish a new point-of-care test (POCT) for the rapid and early detection of cardiac troponin I (cTnI), a kind of cardiac specific biomarker for acute myocardial infarction (AMI). The double layered microspheres with clear core-shell structures were produced using soap-free emulsion polymerization method with inexpensive compounds (styrene and acrylic acid). The synthetic process was simple, rapid and easy to control due to one-step synthesis without any complicated procedures. The microspheres are nanostructure with high surface area, which have numerous carboxyl groups on the out layer, resulting in high-efficiency coupling between the carrier and antibody via amide bond. Meanwhile, the red fluorescent dye, Nile-red (NR), was wrapped inside the microspheres to improve its stability, as well to reduce the background noise, because of its higher emission wavelength than interference from real plasma samples. The core-shell structures provided different functional areas to separate antibody and dyes, so the immunoassay has highly sensitive, wide working curves in the range of 0–40 ng/mL, low limits of detection (LOD) at 0.016 ng/mL, and limits of quantification (LOQ) at 0.087 ng/mL with coefficient of variations (CV) of 10%. This strategy suggested an outstanding platform for LFIA, with good reproducibility and stability to straightforwardly analyze the plasma samples without washing steps, thereby reducing the operating procedures for non-professionals and promoting detection efficiency. The whole detection process can be completed in less than 15 min. This novel immunoassay offers a reliable and favorable analytical result by detecting the real samples, indicating that it holds great potential as a new alternative for biomolecule detection in complex samples, for the early detection of cardiac specific biomarkers. Keywords:cardiac troponin I;core-shell microspheres;lateral flow immunoassay;point-of-care tests;clinical application

In this work, theophylline was selected as the model compound to study and simulate the solution-mediated polymorphic transformation. The polymorph I and polymorph II of theophylline were prepared and fully characterized. Raman and UV spectra methods were carried out to observe the phase transformation of theophylline from polymorph I to polymorph II at different temperatures. The theoretical models, including dissolution model, nucleation model, and growth model, were established to describe and simulate the transformation processes. By combination of experiments and simulations, the controlling steps of the transformation processes were discussed. The effects of temperature and/or solvent on the transformation processes were evaluated. This work can shed light on the polymorphic transformation processes. Keywords:theophylline;polymorphic transformation;temperature;solvent;mathematical model

CsPbX3 (X = Cl, Br, I) nanocrystals (NCs) are competitive emitting materials for illumination and display because of their outstanding photophysical properties. However, the conventional synthetic approaches suffer from low yields, complex procedures, and toxic chemicals. In this work, we demonstrate a one-step microwave-assisted approach to prepare CsPbX3 NCs. The homogeneous heating and rapid temperature increment of microwave preparation facilitate the growth of CsPbX3 NCs, producing the NCs with high photoluminescence quantum yields up to 90%, narrow emission full-width at half-maximum, and emission color tunable from blue to red. By optimizing the preparation conditions of the microwave-assisted approach, CsPbX3 NCs with cation- and halide anion-controlled emission properties, tunable reaction rate, and enhanced stability are prepared. Light-emitting diode (LED) prototypes are further fabricated by employing the as-prepared CsPbX3 NCs as the color conversion materials on commercially available 365 nm GaN LED chips.

In this paper, in order to study the interaction mechanism of non-polar oil assisted dodecylamine (DDA) flotation of quartz, the particle-oil drops system were treated the same as the hydrophobic particles system. Pure dodecane was chosen as research object, the interfacial interactions between quartz particle and oil drop were investigated through calculation of the extended Derjaguin-Landau-Verwey-Overbeek (EDLVO) potential energy profile. Based on the calculations of the van der Waals attractive interaction potential, hydrophobic interaction potential, hydrocarbon chain association potential, and electrostatic interaction potential, the results indicated that the mineral particle and oil drop attachment state was mainly dominated by hydrophobic interaction potential. In the modification of oil agglomeration flotation process, the adsorption of DDA on the dodecane/water interface presented significant effects on the interfacial interactions between quartz particle and oil drop. It was found that the adsorption of DDA at dodecane/water interface changed the zeta potential value of oil drop from negative to positive. In this case, the attachment of the particles would occur spontaneously, which was due to the contribution of electric double layer attractive interaction. On the contrary, in the traditional oil agglomeration flotation process, a mechanical agitation was required to overcome a potential barrier due to the existence of electric double layer repulsive interaction between the negatively charged oil drops and mineral particles. This study was focus on the theoretical level, and provided some insights into mechanism of oil agglomeration flotation.

Chitin and phytic acid are abundant sustainable resources commonly found in shrimp shells, crab shells, and various plants. However, they are underutilized, and their biomass value is frequently underestimated. To address this, the current study developed a strategy to synthesize efficient separator coatings for zinc-iodine (Zn-I) batteries using chitin and phytic acid as carbon sources (biochar). First, nanosheets of porous carbon doped with N and P (NP-PC), featuring multiple active sites, are synthesized through in situ carbonization of chitin and phytic acid. Subsequently, the synthesized materials are coated onto the surfaces of glass fiber (GF) separators, effectively addressing several persistent challenges associated with Zn-I batteries. Notably, the modified separator (NP-PC@GF) enhanced the rapid-discharge capability of the involved battery, effectively inhibited the diffusion of intermediate polyiodide species, stabilized the electrolyte interface, suppressed irreversible dendrite formation, and increased I utilization efficiency. Consequently, the battery demonstrated high electrochemical performance, with an initial capacity of 7.8 mAh cm –2 at 20 mA cm –2 , an initial specific capacity of 8.9 mAh cm –2 under high I loading, and a retention rate of 56% (5.1 mAh cm –2 ) at the 174th cycle. Overall, this research demonstrates the effective use of biochar for separator modification, facilitating the development of high-performance Zn-I batteries. Graphical

The excited triplet state of tanshinone I (Tan I) extracted from the traditional Chinese medicine Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge was characterized by laser flash photolysis. The synergic effect of Tan I on the phototherapy of cancer cells with curcumin (Cur) was also investigated by MTT assay because the excited energy transfer from the triplet state of Tan I ( 3 Tan I ∗ ) to Cur occurred. At the same time, the characteristic absorption spectra of 3 Tan I ∗ were recorded, and its molar absorption coefficient and rate constants for several excited energy transfers were obtained. The photo-therapeutic effect of Cur is enhanced by combination with Tan I.

Metal-mediated interlocking rings won the 2016 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. The metal-directed interlocking rings in macromolecular systems (e.g., proteins) may be similar to the form of Maxwell’s electromagnetic waves; the metal ions may shuttle among the rings in the special environment. To verify this hypothesis, we designed a general approach to synthesize the multicolored gold nanoparticles (GNPs) mediated by Au(I)-directed interlocking rings in proteins. The Au(I) ions shuttled among these interlocking rings in the strong alkaline solution. Through the rapid nucleation method, the multicolored GNPs of different morphology and sizes were synthesized in the multiple honeycombed templates. On the basis of the “three-color” principle of Thomas Young, we extracted the red, green, and blue (RGB) alterations of GNPs to fabricate a visual sensor array for protein discrimination. The fingerprints (ΔRGB) were obtained from the target proteins and fed into computer programs. The proposed sensing platform was also applied to detect lysozyme in human tears with satisfactory results. Importantly, we forecasted that lysozyme could be the effective drug for curing dacryocystitis and nasolacrimal duct obstruction diseases.

A novel molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) sensor for rapid determination of cardiac troponin (cTnI) was established. Since it can bind to the template molecule cTnI specifically, it can be used to detect concentration of cTnI in serum without much sample pretreatment. What's more, the electrochemical signals depend on the concentration of template molecules. The synthetic sensor possesses advantages including simplicity, high specificity, low cost of preparation, good chemical and mechanical properties, sensitive and label-free determination. The synthetic sensor shows good dynamic linearity at concentration range from 0.05 to 5.00 nM. The limit of detection (LOD) was found to be 0.027 nM. The detection time of whole process was within 5 minutes.

ObjectivesTo develop an acid trigger release of antitumour drug delivery carriers, pH-sensitive amphiphilic poly (ethyleneglycol)-imine-benzoic-dipalmitate (PEG-I-dC16) polymers were designed and synthesized and the drug-loaded micelles were evaluated in vitro.MethodsPEG-I-dC16 synthesized by Schiff base synthetic method and characterized by 1H-NMR. To determine the drug-loading capacity, doxorubicin (DOX) was encapsulated in the micelles using membrane dialysis method. Zeta potential, particle size, drug-loading capacity, in vitro drug release in different pH conditions and cytotoxicity evaluation of micelles were carried out comparing with non-acid liable PEG–amide–benzoic–dipalmitate (PEG-A-dC16) polymers micelles. The cellular uptake and intracellular distribution of DOX were detected by flow cytometry and confocal laser scanning microscope.Key findingsDrug-loading capacity and encapsulation efficiency of micelle (PEG molecular weight 2k) were 12.7 ± 1.1% and 49.8 ± 2.2%, respectively. The average particle size was 72.3 ± 2.5 nm. The DOX release rate of PEG-I-dC16 micelles is much higher at pH 6.5 than at pH 7.4. DOX cellular uptake and nuclear accumulation of PEG-I-dC16 micelles were more efficiency than that of PEG-A-dC16 micelles.ConclusionThe pH-sensitive PEG-I-dC16 micelles could be a promising drug delivery system for anticancer drugs.

Hexakis(4-formylphenoxy) cyclotriphosphazene (HAPCP), substitution reaction product of hexachlorotriphosphazene (HCTP) with p-hydroxybenzaldehyde, was reduced by sodium borohydride to afford hexakis[4-(hydroxymethyl) phenoxyl] cyclotriphosphazene (HHPCP). The hydroxyl group of this compound was then protected by the reaction with di-tert-butyl dicarbonate ester (DBDC) in the presence of 4-dimethylaminopyridine (DMAP) as catalyst to give t-butyloxy carbonyl (tBOC) protected HHPCP. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and proton nuclear magnetic resonance ( 1 H NMR) were employed to characterize the chemical structure, indicating that the synthesis was successful. Thermal behavior was characterized by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), the results showed that the initial thermal decomposition temperature occurred at approximately 170 °C, X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD) results showed that the tBOC protected HHPCP derivatives had amorphous form, and performed excellent film-forming property. Upon irradiation to 365 nm exposure, the photoacid generated proton H + , which can catalyze the deprotection of acid labile tBOC group. This type of novel molecular glass photoresist based on hexachlorotriphosphazene showed high sensitivity, making it possible to fabricate 1 μm line and space pattern under i-line exposure.
