Oriented lateral growth of monolayer MoS2 mediated by highly-oriented MoO2 nanorods on sapphire

Jie Wang,Feifei Lan,Zeyan Wang,Yingmin Wang,Baibiao Huang,Yujian Wang

Two-dimensional (2D) transition metal chalcogenides (TMDs) have demonstrated immense potential and broad prospects in advancing the fields of next-generation optoelectronics, spintronics, valley electronics, and traditional electronics. In recent years, significant progress has been made in the growth research of TMDs through continuous optimization and innovation of various synthetic strategies. However, precisely controlling the growth conditions of materials, synthesizing high-quality 2D materials with a single domain structure, and achieving the desired shape and performance standards remain complex scientific challenges. Here, we report on the study of MoS2 nucleation and growth habits by precisely controlling the ratio of molybdenum and sulfur sources during the growth process. Using pre-deposited highly oriented MoO2 nanorods as templates, two preferentially oriented (0° or 60°) MoS2 crystal domains were obtained on c-plane sapphire. Characterization using Raman spectroscopy, PL, XPS, and HRTEM reveals that the monolayer MoS2 continuous film, grown using this templating method, possesses superior quality. Our work demonstrates a method for directional growth of 2D MoS2 thin films using highly oriented 1D MoO2 nanorods as templates and precursors, providing new insights into orientation control for epitaxial growth of 2D TMD materials.

Efficacious nitrogen introduction into MoS2 as bifunctional electrocatalysts for long-life Li-O2 batteries

Xiaoping Fan,Youguo Huang,Hongqiang Wang,Fenghua Zheng,Chunlei Tan,Yu Li,Xifei Lu,Zhaoling Ma,Qingyu Li

Defect engineering has been an efficient means to govern the electrocatalytic performances of oxygen electrode in Li-O 2 batteries. Herein, we introduce N atoms into MoS 2 for manufacturing sulfur vacancies to improve the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) kinetics of rechargeable Li-O 2 batteries. The obtained results show that N doping opened the crystal distance space of N-MoS 2 , reduced the charge transfer resistance and simultaneously induces Mo-N bonds and a large number of sulfur vacancies. The assembled Li-O 2 batteries with N-MoS 2 as the cathode electrocatalyst deliver discharge specific capacity of 5205.5 mAh g −1 at the current density of 100 mA g −1 , which is much higher than the MoS 2 (2600.3 mAh g −1 ). It also shows excellent cyclic performance with 224 cycles at the current density of 200 mA g −1 within a capacity limitation of 1000 mAh g −1 . Overall, the as-developed N-MoS 2 could be regarded as a promising cathode electrocatalyst for Li-O 2 batteries.

Preparation and Electrochemical Properties of Mesoporous Carbon@ MoS2 Anode Materials for Lithium-Ion Batteries

Jiazhe Sun,Zhao Xu,Wenyu Wang,Shuqi Sheng,Shengyi Zhao,Yifei Chen,Huhao Kong,Yuqi Liu,Xiaoping Jiang,Yongchao Yao,He Chen,Jia Wei Chew,Zhengping Zhao

Addressing the escalating demand for high-performance lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) in light of the energy crisis and environmental concerns, this study aimed to develop an advanced anode material. To overcome the limitations of conventional graphite anodes, a novel NG@MoS 2 @LS-C composite was synthesized via a hydrothermal method combined with lignin–carbon coating and carbonization. Specifically, MoS 2 nanoparticles were uniformly deposited on the surface of natural graphite, followed by lignin–carbon coating and carbonization, resulting in a unique structure with enhanced electrochemical properties. The experimental results show that the incorporation of MoS 2 nanoparticles significantly improved cycling performance, while the lignin–carbon coating mitigated volume expansion, enhancing cycle stability. The composite exhibited an initial capacity of 588.2 mAh·g⁻¹ and retained a reversible capacity of 326.2 mAh·g⁻¹ after 30 cycles, outperforming pristine graphite. In addition, the lamellar structure of MoS 2 nanoparticles, combined with the buffering and electrolyte blocking effects of a lignin-derived carbon shell, endows the composite with low charge transfer resistance and a high lithium-ion diffusion rate, resulting in excellent electron-ion cooperative transmission characteristics. This study presents a promising anode material for next-generation LIBs, which can contribute towards green and sustainable energy storage solutions.

Defect-rich O-doped MoS2 boosted peroxymonosulfate activation for tetracycline removal via nonradical pathways

Qing Li,Jie Sheng,Yunze Qiu,Meng Wan,Xue Fei Sun

Peroxymonosulfate (PMS)–based advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) are attractive for abating recalcitrant organics but are hindered by poor selectivity of freely diffusing radicals and the difficulty of steering reactions toward surface-confined, pollutant-selective routes. Molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 ) has emerged as a promising PMS activator; however, the literature remains divided on the identity of active sites (Mo centers vs. defects) and the dominant pathway (free-radical, 1 O 2 , or interfacial electron transfer pathway(ETP)). Here we resolve these contradictions by decoupling site identity and pathway contributions on a hydrothermally synthesized, oxygen-doped, defect-rich 2H-MoS 2 (Defect-MoS 2 ). Multi-scale characterization reveals the presence of oxygen vacancies and reduced long-range order. A biased non-radical mechanistic protocol, combining quencher assays and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) with an explicit correction for non-catalytic direct PMS oxidation showed that the catalytic contribution was governed by an interfacial ETP mediated by surface-bound PMS*, with 1 O 2 as the principal ROS signature and •OH/SO 4 • − playing minor roles. In-situ Raman identified PMS* vibrational features, while chronoamperometry and open-circuit potential tracked PMS* formation/consumption and interfacial electron redistribution in real time. EDTA poisoning and DFT jointly indicated that Mo centers primarily anchored PMS whereas oxygen vacancies (O vac ) activated PMS. The ETP-biased routed robust under neutral–alkaline pH, with common anions, and within membrane nanoconfinement. This study reconciles disparate reports on MoS 2 -mediated PMS activation, establishes a transferable design principle on engineering O vac to activate PMS and supporting surface-confined ETP-PMS* and provides a corrective framework for correcting PMS activation in for PMS-type Fenton systems.

Multiplexed Sepsis Immunosorbent Assay Based on Flower-like CoFe2O4/MoS2 with Dual Substrate Affinity

Tai-Cheng Lu,Qing-Zhen Qiu,Wen-Xin Chen,Wen-Biao Xiao,Hui-Yun Tian,Muhammad Saqib,Ai-Lin Liu,Yun Lei

Sepsis diagnosis and prognosis are hindered by the limitations of traditional single-parameter assays, which are costly, slow, and impractical for resource-limited settings. To overcome this, we developed a novel combined nanozyme-linked immunosorbent assay (NLISA) kit for the multiplexed detection of three critical sepsis biomarkers: C-reactive protein, serum amyloid A, and D-dimer. Our approach leverages a unique flower-like CoFe2O4/MoS2 nanosheet with dual substrate affinity, which serves as a highly stable and efficient nanozyme label. This sandwich-type immunocomplex enabled us to achieve robust sensitivity, specificity, and reproducibility at clinically relevant concentrations. Clinical validation using plasma samples from sepsis patients demonstrated strong concordance with the collective data from three separate enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay tests, confirming a significant improvement in the diagnostic reliability. Our NLISA kit not only simplifies multibiomarker detection but also provides a more comprehensive and accessible tool for sepsis diagnosis and monitoring, offering a powerful alternative to conventional methods.

Heterojunction engineering and ether-based electrolyte boost In2S3/MoS2 for high-efficient sodium storage

Chong Chong Liu,Yong Jin Xia,Shu Pei Zeng,Ya Ru Pei,Jian Li,Qin Wang,Wen Tao Jing,Chun Cheng Yang

In 2 S 3 /MoS 2 @NC was constructed via a chemical foaming and sulfuration strategy. • The In 2 S 3 /MoS 2 heterostructure effectively accelerates the charge transfer. • The glyme-based electrolyte used boosts a thin and stable SEI layer. • In 2 S 3 /MoS 2 @NC shows excellent Na storage properties at room/low temperatures. To position transition metal sulfides to function effectively as anodes in sodium-ion batteries (SIBs), it is essential to address their poor sodium storage performance, which stems from low conductivity and substantial volume fluctuations. Inspired by the heterojunction engineering, herein, a composite of In 2 S 3 /MoS 2 heterostructure in three-dimensional N-doped carbon frameworks (In 2 S 3 /MoS 2 @NC) was constructed via an efficient chemical foaming and subsequent sulfuration strategy. The In 2 S 3 /MoS 2 heterostructure could effectively accelerate the charge transfer, augment the pseudocapacitive contribution and enhance Na + adsorption ability. The system employs a glyme-based electrolyte, which helps generate a thin, stable solid-electrolyte interface. Synchronously, the N-doped carbon frameworks serve to buffer the volume variation of In 2 S 3 /MoS 2 by functioning as a shielding layer. As anticipated, the In 2 S 3 /MoS 2 @NC electrode displays superior high-rate performance (243.2 mAh g −1 at 10 A g −1 ) and long-term cycling stability (352.3 mAh g −1 at 1 A g −1 after 1000 cycles, 223.1 mAh g −1 at 5 A g −1 and 170.5 mAh g −1 at 10 A g −1 after 2000 cycles). Particularly, it also shows potential in cryogenic applications (266.5 mAh g −1 after 70 cycles at 0.5 A g −1 , as well as 185.9 mAh g −1 at 2 A g −1 ). By proposing a straightforward strategy to rationally design anodes for SIBs, this work further advances the understanding of heterojunction engineering and ether-based electrolytes for transition metal sulfides. A hybrid of In 2 S 3 /MoS 2 @NC was constructed via a chemical foaming and subsequent sulfuration strategy. In the hybrid, the In 2 S 3 /MoS 2 heterostructure effectively accelerates the charge transfer and enhance Na + adsorption ability. The glyme-based electrolyte boosts a thin, stable solid-electrolyte interface. In 2 S 3 /MoS 2 @NC as an anode material in SIBs, delivers excellent sodium storage performance at room and low temperatures. MoS2/PPy Core–Shell Nanocomposite-Modified Glassy Carbon Electrode for Electrochemical Detection of Chlorpyrifos

Shiyou Yu,Jieyu Song,Xinyu Zhao,Ruiyan Xiang,Chong Tan

In this study, a MoS 2 /polypyrrole (PPy) nanocomposite sensing film was constructed in situ on a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) surface via chemical oxidative polymerization. The synergistic coupling of high-surface-area layered MoS 2 and conductive PPy not only significantly increased the effective electrochemical active area of the electrode but also generated multiple affinity interactions toward chlorpyrifos (CPF) molecules through the edge-active sites of MoS 2 and the π -conjugated structure of PPy, endowing the composite film with prominent adsorption-enrichment capability and excellent selectivity for CPF. Upon enrichment of CPF, the specific interactions between the organophosphate groups and the MoS 2 /PPy interface modulated the electron transfer kinetics of the composite film, producing quantifiable electrochemical signals proportional to the pesticide concentration. Under optimized conditions, the proposed sensor achieved a low detection limit of 1.10 μg/L for CPF and exhibited outstanding anti-interference capability and favorable operational stability in complex agricultural product matrices. Real sample analysis demonstrated that the spiked recoveries ranged from 97.69% to 100.83%, with RSD values of 2.34%–3.53%, verifying the excellent accuracy and reliable analytical performance of the as-prepared material. This work provides a novel nanocomposite sensing material for organophosphorus pesticide residue detection and manifests great application potential in agricultural product quality and safety monitoring.

Plasmon-enhanced hot electron enrichment in Cu@MoS2 heterostructure boosts the electrocatalytic nitrate reduction

Zhipeng Pei,Jiacheng Li,Yitingyu Zhou,Yuhao Zhao,Wenxian Wei,Fei He,Gang Zhou

Cu@MoS 2 simultaneously enables NO 3 adsorption and *H supply. • Cu@MoS 2 -2 exhibits excellent structural stability and consistent catalytic performance. • Under light irradiation, Cu@MoS 2 -2 generates abundant high-energy hot electrons. • Cu@MoS 2 -2 achieves 94% FE and 0.526 mmol h −1 cm −2 NH 3 yield at − 0.5 V vs. RHE. Electrochemical nitrate (NO 3 − ) reduction (NO 3 RR) to ammonia (NH 3 ) is a sustainable strategy for converting nitrate-contaminated wastewater into valuable resources. However, the process involves a complex proton-coupled electron transfer (PCET) that requires eight electrons and nine protons. Herein, the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) arising from Cu nanoparticles anchored on MoS 2 nanosheet arrays (Cu@MoS 2 ) is harnessed to regulate electron dynamics and enhance active hydrogen (*H) availability for NO 3 RR. Under simulated sun irradiation, the optimized Cu@MoS 2 heterostructure delivers a stable NH 3 evolution rate of 0.526 mmol h −1 cm −2 with a Faradaic efficiency (FE) of 94.0% at − 0.5 V, which is about 7.2 and 12 times higher than bare MoS 2 (0.073 mmol h −1 cm −2 ) and Cu (0.0438 mmol h −1 cm −2 ), respectively. This work demonstrates the capability of plasmonic cocatalysts to convert supplementary photon flux into multiple catalytic driving forces, opening a new avenue toward boosting catalytic activity through direct utilization of free solar energy. Activated alumina sphere-supported CdS-MoS2 heterojunctions: A high-performance catalyst for gold recovery

Huan Zhang,Jiayi Zhang,Huanyu Zhu,Zihao Song,Ning Wang,Jianbo Li,Feifei Jia,Shaoxian Song

The efficient recovery of gold from thiosulfate leaching solutions remains challenging due to the low efficiency and operational complexity of existing methods. In this work, a cadmium sulfide-molybdenum disulfide heterojunction supported on alumina beads (CdS-MoS 2 @AS) was synthesized via a controlled hydrothermal strategy. The resulting composite was subsequently applied as a photocatalyst for the efficient recovery of trace thiosulfate gold (Au(S 2 O 3 ) 2 3- ) from thiosulfate systems. Structural and compositional analyses confirmed the successful formation of the CdS-MoS 2 heterojunction, which facilitated the separation and transport of photogenerated charge carriers. CdS-MoS 2 @AS achieved almost 100% gold recovery within 20 min, outperforming previously reported gold recovery materials. Even at ultralow gold concentrations (1–10 ppm), the photocatalyst maintained outstanding recovery efficiency, underscoring its potential for direct gold recovery from low-grade thiosulfate leachate streams. The enhanced recovery performance was attributed to the synergistic optical response of the CdS-MoS 2 heterojunction, which promoted rapid photogenerated electron transfer, thereby driving the effective reduction of Au(S 2 O 3 ) 2 3- to metallic Au 0 . This study presents an efficient and scalable strategy for gold recovery from thiosulfate solutions with great significance for the sustainable development of gold.

Anisotropic MoS2/SiC Aerogels: A Multifunctional Platform for Broadband Electromagnetic Stealth and Thermal Management

Zhi Song,Longhui He,Fanqi Meng,Hui Zhang,Lixi Wang

en This link goes to a English section zh This link goes to a Chinese section To address the demand for high-temperature stability, broadband strong absorption, and multifunctional integration of electromagnetic wave absorbing materials in complex service environments, lightweight molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 ) decorated silicon carbide (SiC) nanofiber composite aerogels with a directional layered interconnected structure were successfully fabricated in this study via a hydrothermal method combined with directional freeze casting and thermal annealing processes. Microstructurally, the aerogel exhibits a “shish-kebab-like” heterostructure formed by MoS 2 nanosheets uniformly wrapping SiC nanofibers. Furthermore, the heat treatment process regulated the phase transformation of MoS 2 from the 1T phase to the 2H phase, retaining abundant defect sites. Benefiting from the significant anisotropy induced by the directional pore structure, the material demonstrates optimal impedance matching characteristics and dielectric loss capability when electromagnetic waves are incident parallel to the directional structure. The optimized MoS 2 @SiC-2 sample not only possesses an ultralight density (0.157 g cm −3 ) but also achieves superior microwave absorption performance in the X-band: a minimum reflection loss (RL min ) of −34.56 dB and an effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) covering the entire X-band (4.2 GHz). In addition, this unique three-dimensional directional lamellar structure endows the material with excellent thermal insulation performance, exhibiting a thermal conductivity as low as 0.057 W m −1 K −1 in the direction perpendicular to the directional structure, along with outstanding fire resistance and thermal shock resistance. Integrating high-efficiency electromagnetic stealth and thermal protection functions, this MoS 2 @SiC aerogel provides a novel design strategy for electromagnetic protection applications in harsh environments. 摘要(Chinese ): en This link goes to a English section zh This link goes to a Chinese section

MoS2-modulated TiO2/C hydrangea structures for electromagnetic wave absorption via dielectric loss dominances

Yupeng Hu,Saijia Dong,Teng Zhou,Dongwei Ma,Daohai Zhang,Huasen Xia,Yuanjing Si,Anmin Song,Guomin Xu

For non-magnetic MOF derivatives, the core challenge in current research is how to overcome impedance mismatch and enhance microwave absorption performance through precise control of the material’s micro-morphology and dielectric properties without introducing magnetic components. The incorporation of MoS 2 , a two-dimensional material with semiconductor properties and a layered structure, can significantly enhance the absorptive performance of such materials. In this work, a novel Ti-MOF derivative absorber material (TiO 2 /C@MoS 2 ) with hydrangea-like morphology is proposed by in situ growing MoS 2 with varying loadings on Ti-MOFs to overcome the aforementioned challenges. Specifically, the TiO 2 /C@MoS 2 composite material TM72 achieves a minimum reflection loss (RL min ) of −62.1 dB at a thickness of 2.05 mm, a maximum effective absorption bandwidth (EAB max ) of 5.88 GHz (corresponding to a thickness of 2.18 mm), and a radar cross-section (RCS) reduction of 16.6 dB m 2 . For TM71, the RL min is −52.82 dB at a matching thickness of 2.47 mm, with an EAB max of 6.93 GHz corresponding to a matching thickness of 2.28 mm, and it also achieves a radar cross-section (RCS) reduction of 17.95 dB m 2 . This enables TiO 2 /C@MoS 2 to fulfill the critical demands of electromagnetic wave absorbing materials (EMWAMs): “strong, broad, thin, and lightweight.” Furthermore, RCS simulations validate the actual applicability of this composite material. Consequently, this effort provides an innovative strategy for constructing next-generation EMWAMs featuring ultrathin structures, outstanding absorption performance, and broadband absorption capabilities. This study demonstrates that in-situ growth of MoS 2 nanosheets on non-magnetic Ti-MOF-derived TiO 2 /C constructs a novel hydrangea-like core–shell composite whose dielectric constant is precisely tuned by the semiconducting MoS 2 shell to overcome impedance mismatch, achieving a minimum reflection loss of −62.1 dB at 2.05 mm and an effective absorption bandwidth of 5.88 GHz without magnetic component. The synergistic mechanism—extended electromagnetic wave propagation paths within the hydrangea architecture, enhanced interfacial/dipole polarization at the TiO 2 /C–MoS 2 heterojunctions, and optimized dielectric loss balance—provides a viable strategy for designing next-generation lightweight, thin, and broadband electromagnetic wave absorbing materials. Interfacial Engineering of MoS2 Thin Films for Wettability-Dependent Resistive Switching and Neuromorphic Behaviors

Yuhang Yang,Yuan Yu,Cancan Cui,Xin Liu,Yanyong Li,Peisong Liu,Fei Hui

Recent years have witnessed a surge in the research of memristors as fundamental building blocks for neuromorphic computing, owing to their exceptional ability to emulate the plastic behavior of biological synapses in a high-density, low-power hardware format. These devices are increasingly recognized as the key to achieving efficient artificial neural networks. Two-dimensional (2D) molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) is a premier candidate for artificial synapses due to its atomic scale and tunable electronic properties. However, achieving wafer-scale MoS2thin films for integrated memristor systems remains a significant challenge. In this work, a scalable strategy combining cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB)-assisted electrochemical intercalation and oil–water interface self-assembly was developed to fabricate large-area 2H-phase MoS2thin films. Leveraging the amphiphilic nature of CTAB-functionalized MoS2nanosheets, continuous Janus-structured MoS2films with asymmetric wetting properties (hydrophilic vs. hydrophobic) were successfully prepared. Vertical-structured Ag/Janus-structured MoS2/ITO memristors demonstrated robust non-volatile switching with high endurance and long-term retention. The devices successfully emulated biological synaptic behaviors, including short-term and long-term plasticity. Furthermore, the memristors exhibited distinct optoelectronic synergistic modulation under 405 nm illumination, enabling light-sensitive synaptic functions. This work offers a versatile interface engineering route for low-power integrated sensing–memory–computing hardware.
