Tailoring efficient bifunctional electrocatalyst with dual-heterojunction is crucial for overall water splitting (OWS). Herein, a multicomponent bifunctional catalyst with dual-heterojunction is rapidly constructed via sequential electrodeposition for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal that bidirectional electron transfer at the interface induces a double built-in electric field (BIEF) in Pt/CeO 2 -Ni(OH) 2 , which offers additional impetus for electron transport and brings the d -band center closer to the Fermi level, thereby optimizing reaction kinetics and the adsorption of reaction intermediates. Active Pt and CeO 2 nanoparticles (NPs) are uniformly anchored on the stable Ni(OH) 2 nanoflocs, ensuring high exposure of active sites and preventing NPs aggregation. Meanwhile, Ni(OH) 2 , serving as abundant electron donor center, forms dual heterointerface with Pt and CeO 2 (Pt-Ni(OH) 2 and CeO 2 -Ni(OH) 2 ), which ensures structural stability during electrochemical processes. Benefiting from the dual-heterojunction and the unique structure design, Pt/CeO 2 -Ni(OH) 2 exhibits excellent electrocatalytic performance, requiring only 66 mV (10 mA cm −2 ) and 278 mV (100 mA cm −2 ) for HER and OER, respectively. Remarkably, the two-electrode electrolyzer based on Pt/CeO 2 -Ni(OH) 2 electrode requires only 1.49 V to deliver 10 mA cm −2 with an excellent durability for OWS. This work brings light to the rational design and directional construction of bifunctional electrocatalyst hybrid nanomaterials with multiple heterojunctions.

Understanding the molecular origins of oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) activity on Pt-based catalysts is essential for the rational design of high-performance electrocatalysts. Herein, by combining electrochemical measurements with in situ shell-isolated nanoparticle-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SHINERS), we systematically investigate the ORR pathway on Pt-based alloy nanocatalysts incorporating different transition metals to elucidate how surface oxygenated intermediates dictate ORR activity. Among the catalysts examined, PtNi exhibited higher activity than PtFe, PtCo, and commercial Pt/C, underscoring the pronounced sensitivity of intrinsic ORR activity to alloy composition. Potential-dependent in situ Raman spectra, corroborated by isotopic labeling, directly identified *OOH as a key ORR intermediate and established a clear correlation between its vibrational frequency and catalytic activity. The results suggest that Ni alloying may modify the electronic environment of Pt, thereby weakening the Pt-O interaction, optimizing the adsorption state of the kinetically relevant *OOH intermediate, and consequently promoting ORR kinetics. This study establishes an effective spectroscopic platform for probing ORR intermediates on realistic electrocatalyst surfaces and offers molecular-level understanding of the activity enhancement in Pt-based alloy catalysts.

Bifunctional Pt-zeolite catalysts have shown outstanding activity for hydrogen-water isotope exchange due to the highly-efficient synergy between metal and Brønsted acid. However, the aggregation and sintering of Pt particles during this reaction impose the great difficulties for their practical applications. Here, the highly dispersed Pt nanoparticles were embedded into framework or channeled within micropores of ZSM-5 by one-pot hydrothermal synthesis to form the encapsulated catalysts. For comparison, a supported one with Pt species predominantly dewelled on the extra-framework was prepared to interrogate their catalytic durabilities during H 2 -HDO isotope exchange. The similarly catalytic efficacy of metal-acid enables the encapsulated and supported ones to share the same reaction pathway by the protonated water clusters on acid sites to deliver deuteron to reactive ones for the interfacial hydrogen isotope exchange between Pt and water cluster, leading to the measured reaction rate and activation energy to be comparable. During the long-term running, the encapsulated Pt-zeolite catalyst exhibits the superior stability with the ignorable activity loss due to the physical constraint effect to suppress the migration of Pt species. However, the absence of this effect upon the supported one causes the severe sintering and agglomeration of metal species, which greatly deteriorates the catalytic exchange. Graphical Pt nanoparticles were hydrothermally introduced within ZSM-5 framework for the liquid-phase hydrogen-water isotope exchange. This encapsulated structure exhibited the exceptional durability in long-term running, due to the inhibition of Pt species migration by the physical confinement effect of rigid framework.

The synthesis of KA oil (a cyclohexanone-cyclohexanol mixture) from guaiacol through mild electrocatalytic approach represents a sustainable strategy for biomass valorization. Herein, we report the electrocatalytic conversion of guaiacol to KA oil over the reduced Pt/TiO 2 catalysts. The TiO 2 -induced hydrogen spillover effect facilitates strategic modulation of H ads (H*) coverage on Pt surfaces, thereby effectively suppressing competitive aromatic ring hydrogenation and excessive hydrogen evolution reactions. Comparative studies of electrocatalysis and thermocatalysis have demonstrated that Pt active sites serve as the dominant catalytic centers. However, H spillover significantly influences reactivity and selectivity, particularly in the electrocatalytic pathways. The electrocatalytic system demonstrates preferential C–O bond cleavage with KA oil selectivity around 70%. This work provides valuable insights into the regulation of metal-support interactions in the design of electrocatalysts.

● Core-sheath nanofibers fabricated via batch coaxial electrospinning. ● Polarization-induced band bending regulates MOF/Pt interface. ● PVDF piezopotential drives directional interfacial charge separation. ● Photo-piezo coupling enhances H 2 O 2 production. ● Multiscale evidence supports polarization-mediated charge regulation. Regulating interfacial charge separation and oxygen reduction process in heterogeneous nanostructures remains a fundamental challenge for photocatalytic hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) generation. Herein, we construct a spatially organized core-sheath nanofibrous architecture composed of a piezoelectric poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) core and a UiO-66-NH 2 (Hf)/platinum (Pt) functionalized sheath, enabling dynamic modulation of interfacial band alignment under coupled mechanical and photoexcitation. Strain-induced polarization within the PVDF core generates a transient internal electric field that cooperates with photogenerated charge carriers in the metal-organic framework (MOF)/Pt sheath, thereby favoring interfacial charge separation and Pt-assisted electron trapping while suppressing charge recombination. Comprehensive electrochemical analysis, valence band spectroscopy, piezoresponse force microscopy, electron spin resonance, and finite element simulations consistently reveal that polarization-mediated band bending facilitates electron extraction across the MOF/Pt interface and promotes a hydrogen-peroxide-oriented oxygen reduction process. Under simultaneous light irradiation and mechanical stimulation, the optimized membrane achieves enhanced hydrogen peroxide production of approximately 90 μM within 120 min, together with efficient degradation of representative organic pollutants. By coupling batch-controllable structural fabrication with polarization-mediated interfacial electronic regulation, this study provides a reproducible core-sheath platform and mechanistic insight into polarization-regulated oxygen reduction in composite nanofibrous membranes. Oxygen vacancies are a key factor determining the efficiency of the CO2hydrogenation reaction and play a crucial role in CO2adsorption and activation. However, effectively regulating the concentration of oxygen vacancies to enhance the performance of the light-driven reverse water gas shift (RWGS) reaction remains a challenge. To address this, this study successfully developed Pt/TiO2catalysts with varying oxygen vacancy concentrations by controlling the morphology of TiO2. Structural characterization results indicate that, compared to Pt/TiO2-NR, Pt/TiO2-NB exhibits a higher oxygen vacancy (OV) concentration and greater CO2absorption. Catalytic performance evaluation results showed that under an irradiance of 2.5 W/cm2, the CO production rates of the Pt/TiO2-NB catalyst reached 57.03 mol·gPt−1·h−1. Furthermore, the catalyst maintained excellent catalytic stability during 45 h of continuous operation, demonstrating good potential for practical applications.

Pt NPs was loaded to enhance the laccase-like activity of Cu-based nanozyme. • Design of a three-channel colorimetric sensing array based on the nanozyme. • The array enabled the simultaneous identification and detection of multiple phenol. • The developed sensor array showed superior analytical ability for phenol detection. Phenolic compounds represent a class of hazardous environmental pollutants characterized by high toxicity, low biodegradability, and a strong tendency to bioaccumulate, leading to considerable risks for ecological safety and human health. In this work, a novel bimetallic nanozyme Pt@GA-Cu was synthesized by loading platinum nanoparticles (Pt NPs) onto a copper-based laccase-like material. The synergistic interaction between Pt and Cu significantly enhanced the electron transfer rate and catalytic efficiency, resulting in better laccase-like performance than that of the individual materials. By this enhanced performance, a time-dependent three-channel colorimetric sensor array was constructed. With the integration of machine learning (ML), specifically linear discriminant analysis (LDA) and hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA), the as-developed sensor successfully not only distinguished four distinct phenolic compounds (2,4-DP, 4-cP, CAT, and 2,6-DMP) with high accuracy, but also exhibited exceptional discriminative capabilities even when deployed within intricate multi-component phenolic solutions. Furthermore, to evaluate the functionality of the sensor in practical condition, real water samples were tested using standard addition methods, and satisfactory recovery rates (93.15–112.5%) and low relative standard deviations (<2.2%) were obtained. This study provides an efficient and reliable strategy to rapidly detect and differentiate among various phenolic pollutants, offering considerable potential for environmental monitoring applications. A Pt-loaded Cu nanozyme-based time-dependent colorimetric array with machine learning simultaneously discriminates and detects four phenolic pollutants. Designed ZnS:Cu@SiO 2 –Pt particles for insulation enhancement and defect visualization. • Pt/SiO 2 deep traps suppress charge migration via band realignment. • 0.3 wt% loading yields 47.53 kV/mm breakdown strength (+17.56% vs EP). • Outperforms ZnS:Cu and ZnS:Cu@SiO 2 controls (+1.93% and +8.85%). • EL visualizes defects: 100 μm scratches, 300 μm high- ε defects, 480 μm bubbles. Epoxy resins (EP) are widely used for power electronic encapsulation and electrical insulation, yet insulation defects (bubbles/micropores) can trigger partial discharge (PD) and accelerate degradation. Developing new methods capable of precisely detecting micro-defects has become a key focus in failure prevention. Inspired by the luminescence of Mycena chlorophos, we proposed self-reporting EP composites to visualize micro-defects, in which biomimetic designed fillers based on strawberry-like structure particles (ZSP) were incorporated. ZnS:Cu with electroluminescence characteristics was adopted as core material, whose surface is coated with SiO 2 shell and decorated with Pt nanoparticles. ZSPs synthesized via wet-chemical routes exhibit green electroluminescence under localized electric fields, enabling real-time visualization of micrometer-scale defects. Incorporating ZSPs into EP yields self-diagnosing composites (SDCs) that combine enhanced dielectric strength with defect visualization effects. DFT calculations revealed that Pt/SiO 2 interface introduces deep trap states, which suppress the charge migration. As a result, the breakdown strength of SDCs increased by 17.57% compared to pristine EP. SDCs further demonstrate broad defect-detection capability for surface and internal defects, including high-dielectric-constant defects, scratches, and bubbles. Overall, this work establishes a material-level route that integrate condition monitoring with insulation reinforcement for high-voltage equipment and electronic modules.

By in situ reduction of Pt nanoparticles (Pt NPs) onto the surface of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), Pt NPs@MWCNTs nanocomposite was successfully synthesized. Experimental results indicate the nanocomposite exhibits good NADH oxidase activity, which can generate •O 2− through O 2 and efficiently catalyze the oxidation of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH) to generate biologically active NAD + . Based on this characteristic, we developed an NAD + /NADH dependent dehydrogenase electrochemical cascade biosensor for the detection of β-hydroxybutyric acid (HB) via β-hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase that does not require additional redox mediators. This biosensor exhibited good performance for HB with high sensitivity and good specificity, and a wide linear range of 10 µM to 10 mM. To verify its practical application, the biosensor was applied to the detection of HB in human serum samples, which indicate the biosensor has potential for clinical diagnosis of diabetes ketoacidosis.

The effects of different promoters (including Sn, In, Ga, and K) on the activity, ethylene selectivity, and stability of the encapsulated Pt@silicalite-1 for ethane dehydrogenation were investigated. The dual-promoter catalysts, KPtIn@S-1 and KPtSn@S-1, exhibited high ethane initial conversions, high ethylene selectivity at 550°C, and high stability, with almost no deactivation during 30 hours on stream and the deactivation constants as low as 0.0003 and 0.0002 hour−1, respectively. Combining the characterization and performance evaluation results, it could be deduced that the introduction of Sn and In promoters plays an important role in diluting Pt, resulting in the reduced average Pt particle size. Moreover, the Sn introduced in KPtSn@S-1 led to the formation of a Si–O–Sn interaction structure between Sn and S-1 zeolite framework, resulting in the anchoring effects of Sn (II) on Pt sites. In the KPtIn@S-1 sample, the strong interaction between Pt and In also played a role in anchoring Pt species, which greatly reduced the formation of carbon deposition and inhibited the production of graphitic carbon deposits.

Ce-doped MnO 2 with oxygen vacancies modulates Pt electronic structure. • Pt/Ce-MnO 2 /MWCNTs shows 9.69 A mg Pt -1 for methanol oxidation under light. • Electron-rich Pt surface shows weakened CO adsorption at 0.94 V vs. RHE. • Synergy of defect engineering and photocatalysis boosts MOR durability. The development of efficient and CO-tolerant anode catalysts is critical for advancing direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs). Herein, we report a rationally designed photoelectrocatalyst comprising ultrafine Pt nanoparticles anchored on Ce-doped MnO 2 supported by highly conductive multi-walled carbon nanotubes (Pt/Ce-MnO 2 /MWCNTs). Ce incorporation induces abundant oxygen vacancies within the amorphous MnO 2 matrix, which modulate the local electronic structure and facilitate strong metal-support interactions. This results in electron-enriched Pt surfaces with weakened CO adsorption, as evidenced by negative shifts in Pt 4f binding energies and improved CO stripping performance. Under simulated solar illumination, the Pt/Ce-MnO 2 /MWCNTs catalyst delivers a mass activity of 9.69 A mg Pt -1 toward methanol oxidation, representing a 46.6% enhancement over that under dark conditions and exceeding undoped Pt/MnO 2 /MWCNTs and commercial Pt/C catalysts. This performance is attributed to the synergistic interplay of (i) oxygen-vacancy-mediated electronic modulation, (ii) efficient charge transport via the MWCNT network, and (iii) photoexcited charge carriers from Ce-MnO 2 that actively participate in oxidizing poisoning intermediates. The catalyst also exhibits CO tolerance with an onset potential of 0.94 V and good long-term durability, retaining 82.3% of its initial activity after 500 cycles. This work demonstrates strategies for designing high-performance DMFC anodes through defect engineering and light harvesting. Although Co modulation can optimize the electronic structure of Pt for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), PtCo still suffers from chloride ion (Cl–) corrosion in seawater electrolysis, severely limiting its practical applications. This study successfully constructed P-doped PtCo nanoflowers (P-PtCo NFs) with excellent corrosion resistance and rapid water dissociation kinetics through the introduction of P for synergistic electronic regulation. To demonstrate, the P-PtCo NFs require only an 18.2 mV overpotential to achieve 10 mA cm–2 in alkaline seawater, which is significantly lower than those of PtCo NFs (43.2 mV) and commercial Pt/C (65.2 mV), and maintain stable operation for over 500 h in 1 M KOH. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and density functional theory analyses reveal strong electron interaction between P atoms and PtCo, which downshifts the d-band center of Pt by 0.038 eV and optimizes the adsorption strength of active sites toward hydrogen intermediates. In situ Raman spectroscopy and CO stripping experiments further illustrate that P doping reconstructs the electronic distribution of Pt, effectively promoting water molecule dissociation. This work highlights the essential role of P in conferring both corrosion resistance and fast reaction kinetics, providing a design strategy for efficient and durable seawater electrolysis catalysts through multicomponent electronic synergism.
