Fe-N and pyridinic-N generally are considered the active sites of Fe-N-C catalyst. In this featured work, small uniform Fe/N-rich polymer spheres are selected to prepare the Fe-N-C catalyst and study how the sintering atmosphere (NH 3 , Ar, and H 2 ) to engineer their products. The findings reveal that the sintering atmosphere greatly affected not only the composition , aggregate state, and morphology of Fe, but also the graphitization degree and pore structure of carbon. In addition, XPS results suggest that Fe-N-C-NH 3 possesses the highest Fe-N and pyridinic-N content. Combining its abundant pores, high graphitization, and large specific surface area, the catalyst obtained in NH 3 atmosphere delivers best ORR catalytic performance (E 0 = 0.97 V, E 1/2 = 0.85 V vs RHE), which is even comparable to commercial Pt/C (E 0 = 0.97 V, E 1/2 = 0.83V vs RHE). Moreover, the catalyst exhibits greater stability and methanol resistance than those of Pt/C.

Background: The use of modified electrochemical sensors is essential for the detection of antibiotic drug abuse. The main objective of this article is to develop a silk-derived carbon material for the modification of pyrolytic graphite electrodes (PGE) for the sensitive detection of
chloramphenicol (CAP). Methods: We proposed a pyrolysis synthesis of porous carbon nanosheets (Fe-Silk PNC) using silk as a precursor. Properties of carbon nanosheets had been improved by the Fe-Nx atoms doping, which was attributed to the β-sheet structures and amino-group-rich
chemical structures of silk fibroin, and this material has been used to modify the pyrolytic graphite electrode (PGE) for the electrochemical determination of CAP. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR) were used to determine the morphology and
properties of Fe-Silk PNC surface. In the electrochemical determination, cyclic voltammetry (CV) showed a superior current response while bare electrode performed an inferior result. In addition, different scan rate, pH, accumulation time and accumulation potential were carefully optimized,
which proved that this material is appropriate for CAP detection. Finally, differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) method was used for quantitative measurements. Results: In this study, DPV determination of CAP showed the linear relationship with increasing concentration ranged from 1 to
200 μM, and the low detection limit was 0.57 μM (S/N = 3). SEM and FT-IR results further demonstrated the N-doped carbon nanomaterials were successfully synthesized. With excellent sensing performance achieved, the practicability of the sensor has been evaluated to detect CAP in chicken,
shrimps and fish. Conclusion: In summary, a silk derived biomass porous carbon nanomaterial Fe-Silk PNC was simply fabricated and used as a novel electrode material. This kind of novel Fe-Silk PNC modified electrode exhibited excellent sensitivity, anti-interference ability, repeatability,
wide linear rang, and was successfully used for determination of CAP in real samples. Therefore, the biomass derived nanomaterial is expected to be used in new sensing materials.

Natural resveratrol can assist Fe(III)-mediated PDS activation • RES promotes Fe(III) reduction and supports Fe(III)/Fe(II) cycling • Balanced RES concentration improves redox cycling while limiting radical competition • Near-neutral OFL degradation is achieved without additional pH adjustment Summary Iron-mediated peroxydisulfate (PDS) activation is limited by slow Fe(III)/Fe(II) redox cycling under circumneutral conditions. Here, resveratrol (RES), a natural stilbene polyphenol, was introduced as a low-dose redox mediator to promote Fe(II) formation from Fe(III) for enhanced PDS activation. The Fe(III)/RES/PDS system showed higher ofloxacin (OFL) degradation than the corresponding single-reagent and binary systems and achieved approximately 90% OFL degradation at pH 6.5. Chemical quenching and competition-kinetic analysis indicated that sulfate radical (SO 4 ·− ) was the major contributor to OFL degradation, while hydroxyl radical ( · OH) played a secondary role. Matrix experiments showed that Cl − and NO 3 − had minor effects, whereas NO 2 − strongly inhibited OFL degradation. This work provides a case study of RES-mediated Fe(III)/PDS activation for antibiotic degradation under near-neutral conditions. Sr-based perovskites represent enormous potential as supercapacitor electrode materials. However, the wide-temperature supercapacitor application for perovskite-based electrodes has not been studied yet. Thus, there is a pressing need for comprehensive research and investigation in the wide-temperature range to unlock the full capabilities of Sr-based perovskite and pave the way for its successful integration into versatile supercapacitor systems. In this study, SrCo 1- x Fe x O 3-δ ( x = 0.05, 0.10, 0.15 and 0.20) were synthesized by solid-state sintering method, as oxygen-intercalated electrode materials for wide temperature-tolerant supercapacitors. SrCo 1- x Fe x O 3-δ contains orthogonal and monoclinic phases for x = 0.05 and x = 0.10, and a stable monoclinic phase can be obtained when the substitution amount is at least 15 %. The best electrochemical performance was obtained in x = 0.10, with a specific capacitance of 526.6 F g −1 at 1 A g −1 . This can be attributed to the lowest resistance and richest oxygen vacancies of SrCo 0.9 Fe 0.1 O 3-δ , which are conducive to oxygen-intercalated energy storage. The SrCo 0.9 Fe 0.1 O 3-δ @CC//AC@CC supercapacitor device displays a working voltage of 1.6 V and a stable long-term cycle life with 85.71 % capacity retention after 5000 cycles. Furthermore, the temperature-dependent electrochemical characterization indicates an improvement of electrochemical performance for both electrode and device as temperature increases, which may be ascribed to the enhanced ion migration in the electrolyte. From 0 to 85 °C, the specific capacitance of SrCo 0.9 Fe 0.1 O 3-δ @CC electrode increases from 91.8 to 1035.9 F g −1 at 1A g −1 , and the energy density of the device also increases from 7.6 to 26.2 Wh kg −1 when the power density is 800 W kg −1 .

Anion exchange membrane water electrolysis (AEMWE) is a feasible pathway to industrial-scale production of hydrogen due to the use of low cost, non-precious metal catalysts . In this study, we demonstrate a stable NiFe 2 O 4 anodic oxygen evolution reaction (OER) catalyst to achieve durable and efficient AEMWE via a simple strategy combining hydrothermal and thermal reduction reactions. The prepared NiFe 2 O 4 -50 catalyst, with polyhedral-sphere hybrid morphology and abundant oxygen vacancies , exhibits an overpotential of 280 mV at 50 mA cm −2 and a Tafel slope of only 44.6 mV dec −1 for OER. Moreover, its use as oxygen evolution electrode in AEMWE cell assembled with a Pt/C cathode show excellent water electrolysis performance with a current density of high to 4 A cm −2 at 1.89 V, a cell voltage of only 1.64 V at 1 A cm −2 , as well as good long-term stability over >1000 h of continuous water electrolysis under a current density of 1 A cm −2 . The newly developed NiFe 2 O 4 catalyst demonstrates excellent AEMWE performance and has a potential application for practical large-scale hydrogen production .

Manganese dioxide (MnO 2 ) has been recognized as one of the natural systems' most active mineral oxidants. However, when it comes to catalytic oxidation of antibiotic applications, pure MnO 2 falls short in delivering satisfactory performance. Hence, a set of Fe 3+ -doped porous MnO 2 (0.02Fe–MnO 2 , 0.1Fe–MnO 2 , and 0.14Fe–MnO 2 ) nanoparticles were synthesized here via a convenient and energy-efficient one-step reaction method. A series of experiments revealed that Fe-doping strategy enhances the properties of MnO 2 host by suppressing the crystalline structure, increasing the amount of surface oxygen defects, and modifying the Mn 3+ /Mn 4+ ratio. Specifically, the tetracycline (TC) removal efficiency of 0.14Fe–MnO 2 reaches 92% without the need for any additional co-oxidant, representing a 20% improvement over pristine MnO 2 nanoparticles . Moreover, this process shows a fast dynamic (achieving 70% of TC removal in just 5 min) and demonstrates pH-resistance, maintaining high TC removal efficiency (≥90%) over a wide pH range of 3.0–9.0. Mechanical studies reveal that the degradation of TC can be attributed to the oxidation by reactive oxygen radicals and Mn 3+ , with 1 O 2 being the primary radical involved in the reaction, accounting for 55% of TC removal. Importantly, cytotoxicity testing indicates that the biotoxicity of TC toward organisms can be effectively mitigated using 0.14Fe–MnO 2 nanomaterial . This study presents a readily applicable candidate for economically and conveniently eliminating of environmental TC pollution, thereby reducing the threat posed by TC pollution to the ecosystem.

Utilizing natural, abundant, and eco-friendly materials to facilitate the industrial application of nano-sized MOF particles is of utmost importance, since these nanoparticles possess high activity but difficult to recovery. Herein, benefiting from the negatively charged vermiculite , dispersed nano-sized Fe-MOF particles were successfully in-situ grown on the surface of vermiculite nanosheets (VNs) via a simple solvothermal method. The construction of the composites improved the exposure of organic dye to active sites, resulting in a remarkable performance of Fe-MOF@VNs-4 towards photo-Fenton degradation of RhB , with a k value of 0.096 min −1 and an activity of 0.581 mmol g −1 h −1 , significantly higher than that of pure VNs and Fe-MOF, surpassing most reported MOF composite catalysts. The excellent adsorption ability of Fe-MOF@VNs, along with the presence of divalent iron in vermiculite, greatly enhanced catalytic performance. Mechanistic investigations revealed that VNs facilitate the separation of photoinduced carriers excited from Fe-MOF, indicating a synergy effect between Fe-MOF and VNs. Overall, this work provides a simple and effective strategy to design large-scale and commercially available catalysts for water treatment , and also offers a promising alternative for the industrial application of nano-sized MOF particles.

Carbon dioxide cycloaddition into fine chemicals is prospective technology to solve energy crisis and environmental issues. However, high temperature and pressure are usually required in the conventional cycloaddition reactions of CO2 with epoxides. Moreover, metal active sites play a vital role in the CO2 cycloaddition, but it is still unclear. Herein, we select the isostructural MOF-919-Cu-Fe and MOF-919-Cu-Al as models to promote the performance and clarify the effects of metal type on the CO2 cycloaddition. The MOF-919-Cu-Fe with exposed Fe and Cu Lewis acid sites reaches the CO2 cycloaddition with over 99.9% conversion and over 99.9% selectivity at room temperature and a 1 bar CO2 atmosphere, 3.0- and 52.6-fold higher than those of the MOF-919-Cu-Al with Al and Cu sites (33.8%) and the 1H-pyrazole-4-carboxylic acid, Fe, and Cu mixed system (1.9%), respectively. The proposed mechanism demonstrated that the exposed Fe3+ sites facilitate the ring opening of epoxide and CO2 activation to boost the CO2 cycloaddition reaction. This work provides a new insight to tune the catalytic sites of MOFs to achieve high performance for CO2 fixation.

Manganese oxides were received extensive attention on account of its low cost, variable valence state and excellent redox properties. Herein, we successfully prepared various Fe-doped MnO 2 catalysts to further improve the catalytic activity of MnO 2 on propane. Physicochemical characterization results displayed that with the increase of Fe doping amounts, the crystalline phase of MnO 2 gradually changed from α-MnO 2 and β-MnO 2 to Fe 2 O 3 , the particle size of catalysts decreased and the specific surface area increased. However, increasing the content of Fe could not monotonically enhance the catalytic performance of catalysts on propane. When the molar ratio of Fe/Mn was 0.25, the largest amount of Mn 4+ species and lattice oxygen species were exposed on the surface of Mn8Fe2, and showed the best low temperature reducibility , which was ascribed to the synergistic effect between Mn and Fe was enhanced. It presented optimal catalytic activity for propane oxidation with temperature of propane conversion at 90% (T 90 ) as low as 279 °C under 0.1% propane and 5% O 2 . This work provided a new way to design and synthesize efficient non-noble metal catalysts for the elimination of propane, which had certain application value.

This work studies the use of Fe/Ni-MOFs for the removal of ciprofloxacin (CIP) in wastewater. Fe/Ni-MOFs are prepared by the solvothermal method and characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), a scanning electron microscope (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and a thermal gravimetric analyzer (TG). Under the conditions of the concentration of 50 ppm, a mass of 30 mg, and a temperature of 30 °C, the maximum adsorption capacity of ciprofloxacin removal within 5 h was 232.1 mg/g. The maximum removal rate was 94.8% when 40 mg of the Fe/Ni-MOFs was added to the solution of 10 ppm ciprofloxacin. According to the pseudo-second-order (PSO) kinetic model, the R2values were all greater than 0.99, which proved that the adsorption theory of ciprofloxacin by Fe/Ni-MOFs was consistent with the practice. The adsorption results were mainly affected by solution pH and static electricity, as well as other factors. The Freundlich isotherm model characterized the adsorption of ciprofloxacin by Fe/Ni-MOFs as multilayer adsorption. The above results indicated that Fe/Ni-MOFs were effective in the practical application of ciprofloxacin removal. Keywords:metal–organic frameworks;antibiotics;adsorption

N2O is a greenhouse gas and a candidate oxidant. Volatile organic pollutants (VOCs) have caused great harm to the atmospheric ecological environment. Developing the technique utilizing N2O as the oxidant to oxidize VOCs to realize the collaborative purification has significant importance and practical value for N2O emission control and VOC abatement. Therefore, the study of N2O catalytic oxidation of tert-butanol based on zeolite catalysts was carried out. A series of molecular sieves, including FER, MOR, ZSM-5, Y, and BEA, were selected as the catalyst objects, and the 1.5% wt Fe and Co were, respectively, loaded on the zeolite catalysts via the impregnation method. It was found that the catalytic performance of BEA was the best among the molecular sieves. Comparing the catalytic performance of Fe-BEA under different load gradients (0.25~2%), it was found that 1.5% Fe-BEA possessed the best catalytic activity. A series of characterization methods showed that Fe3+content in 1.5% Fe-BEA was the highest, and more active sites formed to promote the catalytic reaction. The α-O in the reaction eventually oxidized tert-butanol to CO2over the active site. The Co mainly existed in the form of Co2+cations over Co-BEA samples; the 2% Co-BEA possessing higher amounts of Co2+exhibited the highest activity among the prepared Co-BEA samples.

In this work, a facile one-pot two-step mechanochemical technology is firstly developed to prepare Fe/Mn-based binary hexacyanoferrates (Na x (FeMn)[Fe(CN) 6 ] y , FeMnHCF)/carbon composites by coupling in-situ construction of the conductive network and solid-state reaction. It is found that construction of hierarchical conductive network is favorable to improve the rate performance and cycling stability, with an 80.5% capacity retention over 1000 cycles at 360 mA/g. Furthermore, the capacity attenuation and stabilization mechanisms are investigated by GITT, EIS , and ex-situ XRD . The capacity attenuation in the early stage can be attributed to the large charge transfer resistance, while in the latter stage the long cycling stability is ascribed to the solid solution reaction with the mitigated stress distortion during the desodiation/sodiation process. Overall, the proposed mechanochemical synthesis of Fe/Mn-based binary hexacyanoferrate shows great potential in environmental friendliness and cost-saving production as well as comprehensive product performance.
