Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) can be applied to enhance the property of forward osmosis membranes. However, organic solvents can easily remain in organic synthetic metal–organic frame materials and cause membrane fouling and a decrease in membrane permeability. In this study, water-based Zr-fumarate MOFs were synthesized and doped into the membrane active layer by interfacial polymerization to provide a water-based MOF-doped thin-film composite membrane (TFC membrane). It was found that doping the water-based MOFs effectively improved membrane hydrophilicity, and nanowater passages were introduced in the active layer to improve permeability. The water flux of the water-based MOF-doped TFC membranes was increased by 21% over that of the original membrane, and the selectivity performance of the membrane was improved while keeping the salt rejection basically unchanged. Additionally, the water-based MOF-doped TFC membrane showed good removal efficiency ( R d > 94%) and strong antipollution performance in the treatment of dye pollutants.

Ciprofloxacin hydrochloride is widely used to treat animal diseases. However, its chronic abuse has caused severe accumulation in animal-derived foods , which has seriously damaged human health. Thus, in this study, a novel molecularly imprinted electrochemical sensor (MIES) was designed for selective and ultra-sensitive detection of ciprofloxacin hydrochloride (CPFX) in milk. The sensor was based on the molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) synthesized with poly-pyrrole (PPy) as the functional monomer , AuNPs and S-CoFe-MOFs (CoFe-Metal organic frameworks coated with chitosan) as the Supporting materials , and CPFX as the template molecule. The electrochemical behavior of MIPs/S-CoFe-MOFs/AuNPs/GCE was studied by several electrochemical methods, which showed a wider detection linear range (0.05 ∼ 500 ng·mL -1 ) and lower detection limit (0.0033 ng·mL -1 ) than those in previous reports. The optimization of experiments confirmed the good selectivity and stability of the sensors----- with the milk sample recovery of 89.04∼110.26%, and the relative standard deviations (RSD) of less than 5.5%, which was close to HPLC. In conclusion, the sensor we constructed has a high selectivity and stability potential in detecting CPFX in milk.

It’s still a challenge to design reasonably efficient catalyst based on non-noble metal for water decomposition. Herein, we prepared a self-supported S-NiFe/NFF catalyst by sulfurated NiFe-based metal–organic framework on the NiFe foam (NFF) through a simple solvothermal method. Benefiting from the direct contact with the conductive NiFe foam matrix, the electronic environment of the active site regulated by heteroatomic oxygen and sulfur, and the positive synergistic effect between nickel and iron, the catalyst S-NiFe/NFF shows outstanding electrocatalytic activity for oxygen evolution (OER) and hydrogen evolution (HER) reactions with a low overpotential of 174 mV and 150 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm −2 in alkaline electrolyte, respectively; and the S-NiFe/NFF‖S-NiFe/NFF cell only needs 1.50 V battery voltage to reach the current density of 10 mA cm −2 . This work reports a highly efficient water decomposition catalyst, which indicates that non-noble metal-based electrocatalysts have great potential applications in the water electrolysis field, and provides a basis for rational design and synthesis of MOF-derived catalysts with unique structures.

Sulfide is a widespread environmental contaminant present in nature and can cause damage to human beings even in microscale amounts. Despite the success of existing point-of-care testing (POCT) techniques, on-site accurate and sensitive detection of sulfide remains a challenge. Herein, we proposed a ratiometric fluorescent probe based on carbon dots (CDs) and two-dimensional porphyrin MOFs. Further, a sensitive, economical and visual potable device with smartphone was developed for the real-time and accurate detection of sulfide. Using Color Identifier App, the fluorescent image information captured by the smartphone was converted to color intensity (RGB values), with limit of detection (LOD) of 6.75 μM for sulfide. This portable smartphone-based sensor was successfully used for the highly sensitive detection of sulfide in lake and tap water samples. The advantages of simple operation, low cost, and good selectivity make the sensing platform suitable for on-site sulfide monitoring.

Novel three sources-in-one bio-MOFs doped silicone acrylic emulsion-based waterborne coatings are prepared, using the as-prepared γ-cyclodextrin-based bio-metal-organic framework materials (CD-MOF) as the flame-retarding filler, which has a BET surface area of 451 cm 2 ·g −1 . The flame retardant and formaldehyde adsorption performance are investigated by various microstructural characterizations. Additionally, pyrolysis and adsorption kinetics are employed to probe the flame-retarding and adsorption mechanisms. The results show that the synergistic flame-retarding effect of ammonium polyphosphate (APP) with CD-MOFs is superior to that of 9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthr-ene-10-oxide (DOPO) blended CD-MOF, evidenced by the FGI decreasing from 1.91 to 1.47 kW·m −2 ·s −1 , FPI climbing from 0.19 to 0.34 s·m 2 ·kW −1 , and FRI rising from 1.61 to 3.56, respectively. Because of the as-formed vitreous superphosphates, the pyrolysis activation energy E α climbs from 88.8 kJ·mol −1 to 239.4 kJ·mol −1 at 330–450 °C according to the 3D Jander model (n = 2). In addition, the adsorption kinetics show that the monolayer adsorption model dominates the composite coating with a formaldehyde absorption capacity of 63.57 % within the first 24 h. The results propose a novel and ecological strategy to optimize the compatibility of organic-inorganic hybrid fireproof coatings, exploring ecological and cleaner technologies for the development of a low-carbon economy.

Ochratoxin A (OTA) is a fungal secondary metabolite produced by certain species of Aspergillus and Penicillium , and is generally found in contaminated grains, presenting considerable risks to human and animal health. Poor stability and insufficient miniaturization of equipment are the two main shortcomings of existing optical biosensors . Herein, we proposed a novel strategy where a magnetic metal-organic framework (MMOF) was used f or the pre-enrichment of OTA in complex food matrices through magnetic-solid phase extraction, followed by a competitive optical fiber-mediated homogeneous chemiluminescent immunosensor (OFCI) for specific recognition of OTA in grain samples. A homemade miniaturized portable chemiluminescent device (PCD) was designed and applied as the signal readout. The MMOF performs well on OTA adsorption and its adsorption behavior could be well-described by the pseudo-second-order and Freundlich isotherm models. Compared with other MOF materials, this magnetic UiO-66-NH 2 can simply synthesize, has convenient operation, and has high performance with a superior adsorption efficiency of 94 % within 10 min. The proposed MMOF-OFCI was able to quantify OTA from 0.1 to 100 ng/mL, with the limit of detection of 0.28 ng/mL. This sensor exhibited consistent results in comparison with those obtained by the HPLC-MS on real matrices of wheat and corn, thus making it more suitable for on-site detection.

The materials driven by metal-organic frameworks (abbreviated MOFs) and their derivatives can prevent self-aggregation and inherit their original morphology. The adjustable porosity features of pristine MOFs can achieve an outstanding electrochemical performance. Herein, we report a novel cathode material of V 2 O 3 /V 3 O 5 /Zn 2 VO 4 @NC composite (abbreviated ZnVO-800) with hierarchical structure and heterojunction derived from zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (abbreviated ZIF-8) by self-sacrificed route. The ZnVO-800 cathode undergoes two- step reactions in relation with H + and Zn 2+ synergistic insertion/extraction and exhibits rapid Zn 2+ diffusion kinetics and high electrochemical activity after activation. Specifically, the reversible capacity of the activated electrode reaches up to 314.0 mAh·g −1 at the initial discharge of 0.5A·g −1 as it applies to aqueous zinc ion batteries (abbreviated AZIBs). Remarkably, it exhibits a high reversible capacity of 100.1 mAh·g −1 and an excellent cycleability with a capacity retention of 90.8 % even after 3000 cycles. The electrochemical mechanism reveals that the ZnVO-800 with poor electrochemical characteristics is transformed into Zn x V 2 O 5 ·nH 2 O with high electrochemical activity by in-situ electrochemical activation process. Subsequently, Zn 2+ /H + is reversibly inserted/extracted in the cathode material. The heterojunction with hierarchical structure can not only increase the contact interface between electrolyte and cathode materials, but also shorten the ions diffusion path, which is conducive to rapid dynamics and long-term cycleability.

Efficiently selective catalytic conversion of biomass into biofuels and high-value chemicals using robust and porous catalysts is of great significance for valorization of renewable carbon resources. With respect to this, to reduce the supply dependence on natural oils, heterogeneous catalysis provides the opportunity for versatile anethole (AN) synthesis from bio-derived 4′-methoxypropiophenone (4-MOPP) via the one-pot cascade reactions of catalytic transfer hydrogenation (CTH) followed by dehydration, using an alcohol hydrogen donor and a Lewis/Brønsted acid catalyst. Herein, a sustainable and green strategy for catalytic upgrading of 4-MOPP to AN was developed via the cascade CTH-dehydration process, which was remarkably promoted by polymeric organophosphate unconventional MOFs-hafnium nanohybrids (PDVP-Hf) prepared via a simple solvothermal method. Interestingly, Brønsted/Lewis acidity, Lewis basicity, and hydrophobicity of PDVP-Hf could be effectively regulated by simply adjusting the composite components, among which PDVP-Hf-3 having an amorphous and porous inorganic-organic framework structure (with mesopores centered at 6.52 nm), an enhanced acidity of a suitable B/L molar ratio with lower basicity, and a strong hydrophobicity (water contact angle of 113°), was demonstrated to be efficient for selective conversion of 4-MOPP to AN with a maximum yield of 98.9% using 2-pentanol as hydrogen donor. Moreover, this developed catalytic system exhibited broad substrate generality, and could be employed for reductive upgrading of various carbonyl compounds to alcohols, or further coupled with dehydration to afford olefins. The catalyst synergistic roles of L acid-base couple sites (Hf 4+ -O 2− ) and B acid species (-OH) contributed to its pronounced performance, while high thermostability and robust hydrophobicity of PDVP-Hf-3 endowed its superior reusability, with no significant decline in reactivity for five consecutive recycles. The involved catalytic mechanisms and reaction pathways were explicitly elucidated by control experiments and theoretical calculations. This work sheds light on the appropriate design of unconventional MOF-polymer nanohybrids by combining both advantages for enhanced biomass upgrading via tough cascade reactions.

The Zn–BTC, Co–BTC and Zn–Co–BTC series metal–organic frameworks were successfully prepared by a gas–solid two-phase flow (GSF) method with zinc nitrate, cobalt nitrate, and 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid (H3BTC) as raw materials. Single-crystal structures were obtained by the solvothermal method, and the structure and thermal stability of the target materials were characterized by FT-IR, XRD, SEM, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and DTA. The three obtained target substances were applied to catalyze the thermal decomposition of ammonium perchlorate (AP), and the performance was longitudinally compared. Testing and calculation results showed that when 10 wt% of the sample was added, monometallic Zn–BTC and Co–BTC lowered the AP pyrolysis temperature by 64.1 °C and 92.3 °C, respectively, and their activation energies decreased from 215.96 kJ mol−1 to 136.27 kJ mol−1 and 125.29 kJ mol−1, respectively. Bimetallic Zn–Co–BTC lowered the AP pyrolysis peak by 103.1 °C and the activation energy to 115.56 kJ mol−1, indicating that the series of samples exhibited good catalytic performance, and the catalytic effect of the bimetallic sample was significantly better than those of the monometallic samples.

For the first time, piezocatalysis activity has been observed in bismuth-based MOFs (ultrasound vibration treatment) with two different morphologies, namely FCAU-17 (flakes) and CAU-17 (rods). CAU-17 and FCAU-17 were synthesized by solvothermal and ultrasonic methods, respectively, with the same organic ligand (1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid) and metal salt (Bi(NO 3 ) 3 ·5H 2 O). Among these, the apparent rate constant k of CAU-17 in piezo-photocatalysis is 3.9 × 10 −2 min −1 , which is ∼3.9 and ∼ 1.5 times of those in photocatalysis and piezocatalysis, respectively. CAU-17 showed much high piezo-photocatalytic activity during degradation of RhB. Efficiently coupling between piezocatalysis and photocatalysis has been realized in rod-like CAU-17 (ultrasound vibration treatment). Our results provide a new strategy to improve catalytic performance of Bi MOFs through an efficient synergistic piezo-photocatalysis approach for environmental remediation.

The introduction of rich-electron ligands is a promising strategy to improve the ligand-to-metal charge transfer (LMCT) ability of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) for efficient photocatalytic CO 2 reduction reactions (CO 2 RR), while the resulting impaired Lewis acid sites go against stable bonding with CO 2 and hinder the electron transfering to CO 2 . It is thus the key to search a trade-off between increasing LMCT and frustrating Lewis acid. Herein, the ferrocene (Fc) modified UiO-66 series MOFs, NH 2 -UiO-66-Fc, have been prepared to optimize LMCT for boosting CO 2 RR through a simple solvent-assisted ligand incorporation (SALI) method. Theoretical calculation and systematic experiments, including photoelectrochemical measures, in situ electron paramagnetic resonance, fluorescence probe analysis and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy indicate that with increasing Fc content, the LMCT energy of MOFs significantly decreases from 2.66 to 2.10 eV based on the established electron transfer double-channel mechanism, while the Lewis acidity of Zr sites reduces with the CO 2 adsorption energy ( E ad ) ranging from −1.061 to −0.632 eV. Through introducing an optimal Fc content, NH 2 -UiO-66-Fc (2.0) integrating satisfactory LMCT ability and Lewis acidity shows superior photocatalytic CO 2 RR performance (CO yield: 90.65 μmol·g −1 ·h −1 ), about 13 times higher than that of the unmodified MOF and superior to most reported pristine MOF photocatalysts. DFT calculation demonstrates that the excellent performance of NH 2 -UiO-66-Fc (2.0) is attributed to the lowest energy barrier of 1.50 eV for the rate-limiting step of *COOH formation. In this work, such a simple post-modification strategy for facilitating the whole electron transfer path of photocatalytic CO 2 RR will provide a new way to construct high-performance MOFs-based CO 2 RR photocatalysts.
