Antibody-functionalized nanoparticles (Ab-NPs) are widely used in bioassays due to their excellent affinity, specificity toward antigen, and ease of operation. However, the uncontrollable molecular status of antibodies on NPs severely limits their applications. This work aims at developing a simple method to evaluate the antigen-binding activity of Ab-NPs using two parameters, i.e . , antibody adsorption amount and antigen-binding strength . Herein, we proposed a mathematical expression, G, to quantitively describe the amount and strength of Ab-NPs. G value could be used to assess the antigen-binding performance of NPs influenced by surface and solution factors. Seven types of polymers with different surface properties, including four positively and three negatively charged polymer brushes , were grown from silica NPs via surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (SI-ATRP). A pair of antigen and antibody, human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) and anti-hCG, were selected to screen the antibody immobilization property of polymer brushes. Among them, the G values of 2 polymer-NPs with opposite charges reached maximum, resulting in low detection limits for hCG, where pDMAEA-NP and pMMA-NP represent Poly[ N,N -(dimethylamino)ethyl acrylate]-NP and poly(methyl methacrylate)-NP, respectively. The G value of Ab-NPs makes it feasible to estimate the molecular status of the adsorbed antibodies on surfaces, thus showing great potential for in vitro biosensing and bioseparation.

To enhance the charge separation efficiency of g-C3N4 and facilitate electron transfer between photosensitizer and molecular catalyst, polarization and coordination strategies are taken by grafting pyridine rings onto the edge of g-C3N4 framework. Herein, electron-withdrawing pyridine edge-functionalized g-C3N4 (g-C3N4-Px) was synthesized via a facile one-step thermal polymerization of urea and 4-aminopyridine, and employed as visible-light photosensitizer hybridized with cobalt phthalocyanine (CoPc) for efficient photoreduction of CO2. Both experimental and theoretical results confirm that electron-withdrawing pyridine grafting facilitates in-plane charge separation and directs electron migration toward the edge of g-C3N4, narrows its band gap for enhanced visible-light absorption, and provides dynamic coordination sites that significantly boost interfacial electron transfer from g-C3N4-Px to CoPc. A significant enhancement in CO yield was achieved with the optimized CoPc/g-C3N4-P1.5 hybrid, reaching 14.95 mmol g⁻¹ after 6 hours of visible-light irradiation—a 6.1-fold improvement over the unmodified CoPc/g-C3N4 (2.47 mmol g-1). This work paves a facile approach for developing highly efficient hybrid photocatalysts for CO2 reduction and improving the charge separation and visible light absorption in organic semiconductors.

Background G-quadruplex DNAzymes, known for their peroxidase-like activity and ease of rational design, have emerged as promising tools in biosensing applications. Despite the fundamental importance of structural topology, investigations into how the split mode of intramolecular split G-quadruplex (IntrSG)-based DNAzymes modulates their catalytic properties, as well as their implications for the development of DNAzyme-based probes, remain scarce. In this work, eleven IntrSG strands of different split modes were engineered with a classical parallel G-quadruplex sequence ( PW17 ). The catalytic activity of IntrSG-hemin mixtures was systematically investigated via various techniques. Results Most IntrSG strands incubated with hemin exhibited apparent catalytic activity, which was influenced by split modes and hybridization of inserted spacer. Interestingly, the mixture of hemin and IntrSG of split mode 5:7 (IntrSG(5:7)) exhibited drastic catalytic activity response after hybridization between its spacer and target, and the underlying mechanism was disclosed, which was hybridization-facilitated G-quadruplex assembling and catalytic enhancement. The IntrSG(5:7)-hemin system can be utilized as an effective “signal-on” signal transducer, owing to its simpleness and universality. Subsequently, influence of sequence context changes on the catalytic response was explored by extending and truncating the target sequence. Ignorable effect of protruding DNA was validated, and robust hybridization was critical for catalytic responses, which were unrelated to hybridization location. Finally, an IntrSG(5:7)-based catalytic probe was employed for quantitative analysis of miRNA ( Let-7a ), and favorable performance was achieved. Significance Taken together, a mechanistic framework for topological control of G-quadruplex DNAzyme catalysis was established, highlighting the potential of IntrSG as a versatile platform for biosensing and molecular diagnostics.

In this work, a label-free photoelectrochemical (PEC) aptasensor was developed for adenosine detection based on CdS/PPy/g-C 3 N 4 nanocomposites . The CdS/g-C 3 N 4 heterojunction effectively prevented the photogenerated charges recombination of g-C 3 N 4 and self-photocorrosion processes of CdS, improving photo-to-current conversion efficiency. The introduced polypyrrole (PPy) nanoparticles could lead to a more effective separation of photogenerated charges, thus resulting in a further increasing of photocurrent . The CdS/PPy/g-C 3 N 4 was firstly employed as the photoactive materials for fabrication of aptasensor, and SH-aptamer was then adsorbed on the CdS/PPy/g-C 3 N 4 modified electrodes through S-Cd bond. With increasing of adenosine concentration, the photocurrent decreased as the formation of SH-aptamer-adenosine bioaffinity complexes. Under optimal conditions, the PEC aptasensor had a sensitive response to adenosine in a linear range of 0.3 nmol L −1 to 200 nmol L −1 with a detection limit of 0.1 nmol L −1 . Besides, the as-proposed aptasensor has also been applied in human serum samples analysis. The aptasensor exhibits high sensitivity and good stability, thus opening up a new promising PEC platform for some other small molecules analysis.

A novel photoelectrochemical (PEC) aptasensor with graphitic-phase carbon nitride quantum dots (g-C 3 N 4 ; QDs) and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) was fabricated. The g-C 3 N 4 QDs possess enhanced emission quantum yield (with an emission peak at 450 nm), improved charge separation ability and effective optical absorption, while rGO has excellent electron transfer capability. Altogether, this results in improved PEC performance. The method is making use of an aptamer against sulfadimethoxine (SDM) that was immobilized on electrode through π stacking interaction. Changes of the photocurrent occur because SDM as a photogenerated hole acceptor can further accelerate the separation of photoexcited carriers. Under optimized conditions and at an applied potential of +0.2 V, the aptasensor has a linear response in the 0.5 nM to 80 nM SDM concentration range, with a 0.1 nM detection limit (at S/ N = 3). The method was successfully applied to the analysis of SDM in tap, lake and waste water samples.
Graphitic-phase carbon nitride (g-C 3 N 4 ) quantum dots (QDs) and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) were used to modify fluorine-doped SnO 2 (FTO) electrodes for use in a photoelectrochemical (PEC) aptasensor. SDM oxidized by the hole on valance band (VB) of g-C 3 N 4 QDs promote the separation of electron in the conductive band (CB), which made the changes of photocurrent signal.

Flexible pressure sensors play an essential role in wearable electronics, human–machine interfaces, and physiological monitoring systems. Achieving both high sensitivity and a wide dynamic range remains a major challenge. Here we report a piezoresistive flexible pressure sensor based on graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) that addresses this longstanding trade-off through multiscale dimensional engineering of silver (Ag)-based sensing materials. Three Ag-based materials with distinct dimensional characteristics, Ag single atoms, Ag single atom cluster hybrids, and Ag nanoparticles, were synthesized and their piezoresistive behaviors were evaluated across different pressure regimes. The sensor exhibits an ultrafast response and recovery time of 0.5/0.4 s and high reproducibility. Sensing performance shows pronounced size-dependent behavior with nanoparticles providing a robust response at high pressures (>4.5 kPa), single atom cluster hybrids showing optimal sensitivity in the intermediate range (3–4.5 kPa), and single atom sites exhibiting comparable behavior to single atom cluster hybrids at low pressures (<3 kPa). Integration into a robotic hand demonstrates the sensor’s practical applicability, enabling precise tactile control under low pressure (0.85 kPa). This work establishes a generalizable strategy for decoupling sensitivity and dynamic range by engineering Ag from atomic to nanoscopic scales, offering broad applicability in wearable electronic and robotic tactile systems.

The acylated propylene glycol alginate- g -polytetrahydrofuran amphiphilic graft copolymers (APGA- g -PTHF) with various grafting numbers ( G N ) of 3–23 per 1000 monosaccharide rings and PTHF (PTMG or PTMO) branches with different molecular weights ( M n,PTHF ) of 600–3400 g/mol could be successfully synthesized via nucleophilic substitution of PTHF living chains carrying oxonium ions with the –OH side groups of APGA backbone. The nanophase separation, the hydrophobicity and the surface roughness were increased due to the less restricted movement of hydrophobic PTHF branches to the surface. APGA- g -PTHF graft copolymers behave low cytotoxicity and good anti-protein performance. Interestingly, APGA- g -PTHF amphiphilic graft copolymers could form homogeneous nanospheres (<250 nm) via self-assembly in H 2 O/CH 2 Cl 2 medium which could be used for drug (ibuprofen or curcumin) carriers having high drug loading efficiency (∼45%) and fast release behavior. The nanospheres carried curcumin behave very higher (10-fold) anticancer effect against HeLa cells than that of curcumin and thus reduce the harmful drug dosage. Moreover, the nanospheres carried drug might enter into HeLa cells and present pH-sensitive drug release. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first example of PGA-based graft copolymers for highly effective nano-carriers and anti-protein surfaces, which would have a prospect in biomedical areas.

The mitochondrial DNA G-quadruplex (mtDNA G4) is a potential regulatory element for the regulation of mitochondrial functions; however, its relevance and specific roles in diseases remain largely unknown. Here, we engineered a set of chemical probes, including MitoISCH, an mtDNA G4-specific fluorescent probe, together with MitoPDS, a mitochondria-targeted G4-stabilizing agent, to thoroughly investigate mtDNA G4s. Using MitoISCH to monitor previously intractable dynamics of mtDNA G4s, we surprisingly found that their formation was prevalent only in endothelial and cancer cells that rely on glycolysis for energy production. Consistent with this, promotion of mtDNA G4 folding by MitoPDS in turn caused glycolysis-related gene activation and glycolysis enhancement. Remarkably, this close relationship among mtDNA G4s, glycolysis, and cancer cells further allowed MitoISCH to accumulate in tumors and label them in vivo. Our work reveals an unprecedented link between mtDNA G4s and cell glycolysis, suggesting that mtDNA G4s may be a novel cancer biomarker and therapeutic target deserving further exploration.

Photocatalytic water splitting to product hydrogen (H 2 ) is a desired route to utilize solar energy into chemical energy. At present, most photocatalysts for H 2 generation contains metallic elements with high-cost, confined reserves, and environmentally unfriendly. The exploitation of metal-free and efficient photocatalysts becomes particularly important. Herein, a new metal-free g-C 3 N 4 -based heterojunction composites were facilely produced via the ultrasonic assisted deposition and subsequent calcination from g-C 3 N 4 layers embedded with SiOC with prominent conductivity and large surface area. Systematic investigates suggested that the SiOC/g-C 3 N 4 heterojunctions exhibited eminently meliorated photocatalytic H 2 production efficiency. The optimum H 2 production rate (1020 μmol h −1 g −1 ) of the SiOC/g-C 3 N 4 photocatalyst is 3.2 and 25.5 folds that of g-C 3 N 4 and SiOC , respectively. The boosted photocatalytic activity primarily originates from the increased absorptivity of light, the markedly expedited charge migration and the impeded recombination of charge carriers. This study offers a new perspective for the scientific contrive and fabrication of high-quality heterojunction photocatalysts for solar energy utilization.

A direct Z-scheme CdFe 2 O 4 /g-C 3 N 4 hybrid systems with different weight ratios of CdFe 2 O 4 nanoparticles were successfully designed and constructed for ceftiofur sodium photodegradation. The as-obtained CdFe 2 O 4 /g-C 3 N 4 hybrid samples composed of CdFe 2 O 4 nanoparticles and g-C 3 N 4 nanosheets were systematically characterized by different techniques including X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope, transmission electron microscope, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy , X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, UV–vis DRS , chemical oxygen demand, inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer, photochemical test and electron spin resonance spectrometer technique. The optimal photocatalytic activity for ceftiofur sodium photodegradation was achieved by modulating the weight ration between CdFe 2 O 4 nanoparticles and g-C 3 N 4 nanosheets. The result from photocatalytic tests indicate that CdFe 2 O 4 /g-C 3 N 4 -2 hybrid sample exhibit highly efficient photocatalytic activity towards ceftiofur sodium removal in comparison with pristine CdFe 2 O 4 nanoparticles and pure g-C 3 N 4 nanosheets. Meanwhile the excellent photocatalytic stability of CdFe 2 O 4 /g-C 3 N 4 -2 hybrid sample was also verified during recycling runs towards photocatalytic ceftiofur sodium degradation. The significant enhancement of photocatalytic activity was attributed to the Z-scheme charge separation and transfer based on the construction of tight heterogeneous interface and well-matched band potentials. We expect this research to provide a new insight into the design and preparation of direct Z-scheme hybrid photocatalysts for environmental remediation.

Great efforts have been dedicated to fabricating electrode materials of supercapacitors especially for carbon-based system. To achieve satisfied device performance, the fabrication of electrodes generally involved complicated procedure, poisonous agents, and expensive materials. Herein, we develop a facile and economical method to prepare carbon-based electrode materials. The nitrogen-rich g-C3N4 is used as template and N source, and glucose is used as C source to prepare N-doped 3D porous carbon materials by hydrothermal treatment followed by calcinations. The structure and N content could be adjusted by hydrothermal temperature. The specific surface area of 954 m2 g−1 and 11% N content is achieved, thus providing the excellent carrier storage ability and electrocatalytic activity. The supercapacitors fabricated from present 3D carbon networks achieve a specific capacitance of 90F/g, and shows excellent cycling stability. Present method is free of involving complicating procedure and poisonous reagents for fabrication of 3D carbon structures.
