ZnIn2S4(ZIS) is widely used in the field of photocatalytic hydrogen production due to its unique photoelectric properties. Nonetheless, the photocatalytic performance of ZIS usually faces problems of poor conductivity and rapid recombination of charge carriers. Heteroatom doping is often regarded as one of the effective strategies for improving the catalytic activity of photocatalysts. Herein, phosphorus (P)-doped ZIS was prepared by hydrothermal method, whose photocatalytic hydrogen production performance and energy band structure were fully studied. The band gap of P-doped ZIS is about 2.51 eV, which is slightly smaller than that of pure ZIS. Moreover, due to the upward shift of its energy band, the reduction ability of P-doped ZIS is enhanced, and P-doped ZIS also exhibits stronger catalytic activity than pure ZIS. The optimized P-doped ZIS exhibits a hydrogen production rate of 1566.6 μmol g−1h−1, which is 3.8 times that of the pristine ZIS (411.1 μmol g−1h−1). This work provides a broad platform for the design and synthesis of phosphorus-doped sulfide-based photocatalysts for hydrogen evolution.Keywords:ZnIn2S4;phosphorus doping;photocatalytic;hydrogen generation

Surface potentials of biomaterials have been shown to regulate cell fate commitment. However, the effects of chirality-patterned potential distribution on macrophage polarization are still only beginning to be explored. In this work, we demonstrated that the chirality-patterned potential distribution of CoFe2O4/poly(vinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene) (CFO/P(VDF-TrFE)) films could significantly down-regulate the M1 polarization of bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMDMs). Specifically, the dextral-patterned surface potential distribution simultaneously up-regulated the expression of M2-related markers of BMDMs. The results were attributed to the sensitive difference of integrin subunits (α5β1 and αvβ3) to the dextral- and sinistral-patterned surface potential distribution, respectively. The interaction difference between the integrin subunits and surface potential distribution altered the cell adhesion and cytoskeletal structure and thereby the polarization behavior of BMDMs. This work, therefore, emphasizes the importance of chirality of potential distribution on cell behavior and provides a new strategy to regulate the immune response of biomaterials.

In this article, a piezoelectric thin film was obtained by mixing polyvinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene (P(VDF-TrFE)) and barium titanate (BTO) via a solvent vaporization process. All the morphologies, crystal phases, thermal and electrical tests, as well as potential simulations by COMSOL, were studied to analyze sample performances. It has been demonstrated that BTO has a positive effect on increasing the piezoelectric functional phase-β phase within P(VDF-TrFE). Furthermore, the optimal ratio of BTO to P(VDF-TrFE) was determined to be 10 wt%. BTO nanoparticles were evenly distributed in the P(VDF-TrFE) substrate, forming a more directional structure. Based on the most suitable material composition, piezoelectric, and triboelectric nanogenerators were constructed to harvest mechanical energy from human motions. Moreover, the factors influencing the electrical outputs of nanogenerators were systematically studied, such as the force values and frequencies of excitation, as well as the piezoelectric layer materials. The applications of lighting LEDs highlighted the practical use in everyday life. Finally, the comparison between simulations, theoretical analysis, and experimental results demonstrated the effect of BTO in enhancing the overall material properties. This work expands the application potential of piezoelectric nanocomposites in energy collection and storage by designing and optimizing ceramic-doped piezoelectric polymer composites.

As an essential chemical, p- hydroxystyrene has attracted much attention and is widely used in the field of semiconductors. However, the current production methods have some disadvantages, such as low molar conversion yield, p- hydroxystyrene toxicity, and high substrate cost. To overcome these problems, an five enzymes cell-free cascade, consisting of alditol oxidase from Streptomyces coelicolor A3 (ScALDO), dehydratase from Paralcaligenes ureilyticus (PuDHT), tyrosine phenol lyase from Citrobacter freundii (CfTPL), tyrosine ammonia lyase from Rhodotorula glutinis (RgTAL) and phenylacrylate decarboxylase from Enterobacter sp. (EsPAD ) , was constructed for the de novo biosynthesis of p- hydroxystyrene from glycerol. Through process strategy optimization, a molar conversion yield of more than 84.2% was finally obtained from 10 mM crude glycerol. It is worth mentioning that the reaction system performed an excellent titer using 50 mM crude glycerol, and the p- hydroxystyrene concentration reached 30.32 mM, which exceeded the maximum titer of fermentation. This showed that our system is robust to p- hydroxystyrene and crude glycerol. In addition, a ‘two-step purification process’ was designed to produce pure p- hydroxystyrene. This is the first study focused on the cell-free biosynthesis of p- hydroxystyrene, and the highest conversion yield and titer thus far was obtained for p- hydroxystyrene de novo biosynthesis.

Red phosphorus (RP) is a promising anode material for use in lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) due to its high theoretical specific capacity (2596 mA h g–1). However, the practical use of RP-based anodes has been challenged by the material’s low intrinsic electrical conductivity and poor structural stability during lithiation. Here, we describe a phosphorus-doped porous carbon (P-PC) and disclose how the dopant improves the Li storage performance of RP that was incorporated into the P-PC (designated as RP@P-PC). P-doping porous carbon was achieved using an in situ method wherein the heteroatom was added as the porous carbon was being formed. The phosphorus dopant effectively improves the interfacial properties of the carbon matrix as subsequent RP infusion results in high loadings, small particle sizes, and uniform distribution. In half-cells, an RP@P-PC composite was found to exhibit outstanding performance in terms of the ability to store and utilize Li. The device delivered a high specific capacitance and rate capability (1848 and 1111 mA h g–1 at 0.1 and 10.0 A g–1, respectively) as well as excellent cycling stability (1022 mA h g–1 after 800 cycles at 2.0 A g–1). Exceptional performance metrics were also measured when the RP@P-PC was used as an anode material in full cells that contained lithium iron phosphate as the cathode material. The methodology described can be extended to the preparation of other P-doped carbon materials that are employed in contemporary energy storage applications.

Ferric sulfide is an appealing activator in persulfate (PS) activation process for degrading pollutants from aqueous environment, but the drawback of easy-agglomeration lead to a low utilization efficiency. In this study, we modified nFeS with sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) to improve its stability, and the performance for PS activation and p -nitrophenol (PNP) degradation is tested. After modification, the size further decreased from 23.8 to 18.4 nm, but with higher stability and catalytic reactivity. The CMC and nFeS is bonded by bidentate bridging of Fe-O bond. The degradation performance increased ∼7 times. The PS activation with CMC-nFeS activator shows higher reaction rate constant (0.093 min -1 ) with ∼90% of PNP removed compared to the pure nFeS with ∼80% of PNP removal at a low rate (0.014 min -1 ) with the same condition of 0.6 g/L activator, 8 mM PS, room temperature and initial pH in 90 min. Acidic condition and high temperature were more favorable for releasing Fe(II) to activate PS and produce active radicals. SO 4 - ·and HO·radicals played critical roles to attack on PNP. Detailed XPS analysis of the activator before and after reaction described the removal pathway as heterogeneous and homogeneous systems. Density Functional Theory (DFT) simulation results confirmed that CMC addition effectively decreased the interaction energy and improved adsorption ability of PS onto the activator surface.

N/S/P-codoped carbon dots (CDs) are shown to be a viable fluorescent probe in a turn-off-on fluorometric assay for hydroquinone (HQ). The preparation of CDs was carried out using a one-step hydrothermal reaction starting with glyoxal and isocarbophos. The method is based on the formation of ground state complexes between CD and Fe(III) which leads to quenching of blue fluorescence (with excitation/emission peaks at 363/448 nm). On addition of HQ, it will be oxidized by Fe(III) upon which fluorescence recovers. This turn-off-on system can be utilized to quantify HQ. A linear relationship exists between fluorescence recovery and HQ concentration in range between 0.56 and 375 μM. The limit of detection is 0.16 μM. The assay was successfully applied to the determination of HQ in spiked water samples and developer samples.

P-doped hierarchical porous carbon aerogels are prepared by carbonizing the phloroglucin-formaldehyde resins in the presence of ZnCl 2 and subsequently being activated by KOH. Phosphoric acid is simultaneously used as the polymerization catalyst and P-doped agent in the preparation procedure. Compared with un-doped sample, P-doped carbon with hierarchical porous structure shows improved electrochemical performance. The prepared sample that activated at 800 °C exhibits good capacitance of 406.2 F g −1 in 6 M KOH at a scan rate of 5 mV s −1 . When the scan rate is 500 mV s −1 , the specific capacitance still reaches to 267.4 F g −1 , demonstrating good rate capability. When 60 mg of active materials is loaded, the mass specific capacitance of the prepared electrode reaches to 348.8 F g −1 at a scan rate of 5 mV s −1 , and the maximum area capacitance is 11.35 F cm −2 . The energy density of the prepared sample is as high as 16.97 Wh kg −1 at a power density of 200 W kg −1 and reaches to 8.52 Wh kg −1 at 2000 W kg −1 . Importantly, after 100,000 charging and discharging cycles, the specific capacitance of the prepared sample is no attenuated, indicating a long-term electrochemical stability.

This study accounts the controllable design over the structure and morphology of Ni-P nanomaterials directly growing on cellulose paper, and its excellent non-enzymatic electrocatalytic performance to urea. The Ni-P papers were prepared by simple solution soaking and electroless bathing. And the simple experimental steps and mild experimental conditions make it possible for large-scale industrial production, and potential for practical applications. In addition, tuning the pH and concentration of the electroless bath, the Ni-P nanomaterials with different morphologies of nanoflower , nanosheet , nanowire microsphere and microsphere were obtained. The Ni-P nanomaterials impart conductivity to cellulose paper while being potently sensitive to urea owing to its high catalytic activity. Cellulose paper has a large specific area and open macroporous framework which hadn't been damaged during the process of electroless bathing, providing much more activated sites for Ni-P deposition. And the prepared Ni-P papers, as composite materials of cellulose papers loading Ni-P nanomaterials, have high electrocatalytic properties to urea. Comparing the electrochemical behaviors of the four Ni-P paper electrodes with different morphologies, the Ni-P nanoflower paper electrode showed the best electrochemical performance with highest sensitivity of 683.46 μA mM −1 cm −2 in the low concentration range (0–1 mM) and 1140 μA mM −1 cm −2 in the high concentration range (1–11 mM), lowest detection limit of 12 μM, shortest response time of 3 s, which may owes to the highest surface area of the Ni-P nanoflower structure. It also has a good stability in room environment remaining 97% after 35 days of storage. Moreover, the electrocatalytic activities of the four Ni-P paper electrodes are ranked as follows: nanoflower > nanosheet > nanowire microsphere > microsphere. What's more, the long-term stability and repeatability, good selectivity of the flexible Ni-P paper make it successfully applied to swimming pool water quality monitoring.

The third-generation semiconductor silicon carbide (SiC) is identified as one of the vitally important candidate materials to serve as a functional unit that performs stably and reliably under harsh working conditions, with respect to its excellent piezoresistive effects and robust physical/chemical characteristics. In the current work, we put forward the fabrication of SiC nanowires with co-doped N and P elements, which were fabricated via the pyrolysis of a polymeric material. The as-grown nanowires have a typical diameter of ∼260 nm with a 10 surface. The measured transverse piezoresistance coefficient π[10] of the established SiC nanowires increased from 5.07 to −146.30 × 10−11 Pa−1 as the loading forces varied from 24.95 to 130.51 nN. Meanwhile, the corresponding gauge factor (GF) was calculated up to ca. −877.79, which is higher than the values for all SiC nanostructures ever reported. The mechanism concerning the giant negative piezoresistance behavior of SiC nanowire is proposed. The current exploration may pave a new avenue for the development of highly sensitive and robust pressure sensors that could survive under harsh working conditions.

Dielectric polymer nanocomposites have been attracting increasing attention because of their wide range of applications in electronics industry. To improve their dielectric properties , incorporating conductive fillers and ceramic fillers into the polymer matrix is considered to be an effective solution. Here, Ni nanoparticles (about 50–90 nm) were decorated onto the surface of polydopamine (PDA) coated BaTiO 3 nanowires to synthesize Ni@polydopamine@BaTiO 3 nanowires (Ni@PDA@BT NWs, also denoted as NPB) with different Ni loading amount. The nanowires were then added into poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) (P(VDF-HFP)) matrix and composite films were prepared. The dielectric performance of composite films is largely enhanced owing to the microcapacitor effect and interfacial polarization effect induced by Ni nanoparticles. This enhancement can be improved by increasing the loading amount of Ni. Crystallization behavior of the films were also investigated. With 20 vol% of Ni@PDA@BT NWs added, the dielectric constant of the composite film reaches 48.4 at 1 kHz, in contrast to 29.5 for 20 vol% of BT and 10.6 for pristine P(VDF-HFP). And the dielectric loss tangent remains at a low level of 0.23 at 1 kHz. These composite films exhibit potential for applications in flexible electronic devices and electrical systems.

The kinetics of the esterification between benzoic acid and isoamyl alcohol has been studied using p -toluenesulphonic acid as a catalyst. The conversion of the benzoic acid was determined by following the concentration of water measured with a Karl Fischer titrator. The effects of the reaction temperature, catalyst concentration, and initial acid to alcohol molar ratio on reaction kinetics have been examined. A five-step assumption was proposed to describe the reaction mechanism for the formation of isoamyl benzoate. And the kinetic model derived from the proposed mechanism can fit well with experimental kinetic data of the esterification, which indicates that the proposed mechanism is reasonable. The nonideality of the liquid reaction mixture has been considered and the activity coefficients of all components were estimated by the UNIFAC model. The reaction rate constants from 353.15 K to 383.15 K have been determined through the least square method. Meanwhile the activation energy and the standard enthalpy change of reaction in the presence of p -toluenesulphonic acid were calculated to be 50.45 kJ/mol and −3.75 kJ/mol respectively.
