Ultra-sensitive detection of ciprofloxacin hydrochloride in milk by molecularly imprinted electrochemical sensor based on S-CoFe-MOFs/AuNPs

Yuanqian Xiong,Dong Zhang,Cuizhu Ye,Yu Wang,Xiangrui Deng,Danwen Deng,Chunhong Xiong,Jinsheng Zhang,Qianhui Gu,Ganhui Huang

Ciprofloxacin hydrochloride is widely used to treat animal diseases. However, its chronic abuse has caused severe accumulation in animal-derived foods , which has seriously damaged human health. Thus, in this study, a novel molecularly imprinted electrochemical sensor (MIES) was designed for selective and ultra-sensitive detection of ciprofloxacin hydrochloride (CPFX) in milk. The sensor was based on the molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) synthesized with poly-pyrrole (PPy) as the functional monomer , AuNPs and S-CoFe-MOFs (CoFe-Metal organic frameworks coated with chitosan) as the Supporting materials , and CPFX as the template molecule. The electrochemical behavior of MIPs/S-CoFe-MOFs/AuNPs/GCE was studied by several electrochemical methods, which showed a wider detection linear range (0.05 ∼ 500 ng·mL -1 ) and lower detection limit (0.0033 ng·mL -1 ) than those in previous reports. The optimization of experiments confirmed the good selectivity and stability of the sensors----- with the milk sample recovery of 89.04∼110.26%, and the relative standard deviations (RSD) of less than 5.5%, which was close to HPLC. In conclusion, the sensor we constructed has a high selectivity and stability potential in detecting CPFX in milk.

MOFs-derived hierarchical porous carbon supported Co@NC nanocapsules for pH universal oxygen reduction reaction and Zn-air batteries

Guangda Zhou,Xiaoli Yan,Tianyu Zhang,Kui Wang,Jingtao Zhang,Junjie Guo

The rational design and construction of the hierarchical porous structure of carbon framework to support transition metal-based catalysts is critical to increase their active sites density and facilitate mass/electron transport. Herein, we report a novel nanocapsules with cobalt core and nitrogen-doped carbon shells (Co@NC) supported on MOFs-derived hierarchical porous carbon framework. The rational hierarchical porous carbon framework with controllable size and micropore/mesoporous ratio was achieved by one-step pyrolysis of Zn(acac) 2 ·phen ligand and ZIF-67 precursor, which is beneficial for the mass transport in the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). The 0.4Co@NC-900 electrocatalyst display a distinguished ORR activity in the pH-universal range, with a half-wave potential of 0.91 V in alkaline and 0.76 V in acid electrolytes. The excellent ORR performance of our electrocatalyst can be attributed to its optimized micropore/mesoporous ratio of carbon framework with efficient mass transport, together with the graphitized carbon shell on Co nanoparticles which not only enhances the electron/proton transport, but also suppresses the chemical corrosion of the Co nanoparticles. Impressively, the Zinc-air battery as air electrode offers peak power density of 203 mW cm −2 and long-term stability of 130 h, showing an excellent battery performance. This study offers a fresh method of constructing ORR catalysts with increased activity and durability over a universal pH range.

Forward osmosis membrane doped with water-based zirconium fumarate MOFs to enhance dye pollutant removal and membrane antifouling performance

He Miaolu,Feng Leihao,Cui Qi,Li Yushuang,Wang Jiaqi,Zhu Jiani,Wang Lei,Wang Xudong,Miao Rui

Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) can be applied to enhance the property of forward osmosis membranes. However, organic solvents can easily remain in organic synthetic metal–organic frame materials and cause membrane fouling and a decrease in membrane permeability. In this study, water-based Zr-fumarate MOFs were synthesized and doped into the membrane active layer by interfacial polymerization to provide a water-based MOF-doped thin-film composite membrane (TFC membrane). It was found that doping the water-based MOFs effectively improved membrane hydrophilicity, and nanowater passages were introduced in the active layer to improve permeability. The water flux of the water-based MOF-doped TFC membranes was increased by 21% over that of the original membrane, and the selectivity performance of the membrane was improved while keeping the salt rejection basically unchanged. Additionally, the water-based MOF-doped TFC membrane showed good removal efficiency ( R d  > 94%) and strong antipollution performance in the treatment of dye pollutants.

Formation of feathery-shaped dual-function S-doped FeNi-MOFs to achieve advanced electrocatalytic activity for OER and HER

Lin Wu,Jie Feng,Zhijuan Zou,Kunpeng Song,Chunmei Zeng

It’s still a challenge to design reasonably efficient catalyst based on non-noble metal for water decomposition. Herein, we prepared a self-supported S-NiFe/NFF catalyst by sulfurated NiFe-based metal–organic framework on the NiFe foam (NFF) through a simple solvothermal method. Benefiting from the direct contact with the conductive NiFe foam matrix, the electronic environment of the active site regulated by heteroatomic oxygen and sulfur, and the positive synergistic effect between nickel and iron, the catalyst S-NiFe/NFF shows outstanding electrocatalytic activity for oxygen evolution (OER) and hydrogen evolution (HER) reactions with a low overpotential of 174 mV and 150 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm −2 in alkaline electrolyte, respectively; and the S-NiFe/NFF‖S-NiFe/NFF cell only needs 1.50 V battery voltage to reach the current density of 10 mA cm −2 . This work reports a highly efficient water decomposition catalyst, which indicates that non-noble metal-based electrocatalysts have great potential applications in the water electrolysis field, and provides a basis for rational design and synthesis of MOF-derived catalysts with unique structures.

MOFs derived Co1−xS nanoparticles embedded in N-doped carbon nanosheets with improved electrochemical performance for lithium ion batteries

Zi Yang,Jian Wang,Hai-Tao Wu,Fan-Jun Kong,Wen-Yu Yin,Hong-Jian Cheng,Xiao-Yan Tang,Bin Qian,Shi Tao,Jun Yi,Yun-Sheng Ma,Rong-Xin Yuan

Cobalt sulfides (including CoS, CoS 2 , Co 3 S 4 , Co 9 S 8 and nonstoichiometric Co 1− x S) are deemed to a kind of novel anode material for lithium ion batteries due to their large specific capacities. However, cobalt sulfides suffer from poor cycling stability with the large volume expansion. In this work, we designed and synthesized a novel Co-metal organic frameworks (MOFs) material by using carbazolyl carboxylates ligand H 4 DCDC. The Co 1− x S nanoparticles embedded in N-doped carbon sheets (Co 1− x S/NCS) composites are obtained via vulcanizing the Co-MOFs precursor. As a result, the Co 1− x S/NCS exhibits outstanding cycling stability and maintains a high capacity of 796.3 mA h g −1 at the current density of 200 mA g −1 after 100 cycles. The N-doped carbon sheets can not only enhance the conductivity of materials but also buffer the volume expansion during charge-discharge process.

Mingfei Pan,Xuan Liu,Jingming Sun,Dan Zhang,Yixin Wang,Xiaochun Hu,Shuo Wang

This study utilized computational simulation and surface molecular imprinting technology to develop a magnetic metal-organic framework molecularly imprinted polymer (Fe 3 O 4 @ZIF-8@SMIP) capable of selectively recognizing and detecting multiple fluoroquinolones (FQs). The Fe 3 O 4 @ZIF-8@SMIP material was synthesized using the “common” template-ofloxacin, identified by computational simulation, demonstrating notable adsorption capacity (88.61–212.93 mg g −1 ) and rapid mass-transfer features (equilibration time: 2–3 min) for all tested FQs, consistent with Langmuir adsorption model. Subsequently, this material was employed as a magnetic solid-phase-extraction adsorbent for adsorption and detection of multiple FQs by combining with high performance liquid chromatography. The developed method exhibited good linearity for various FQs within the concentration range of 0.1–500 μg L −1 , with low limit of detection (0.0605–0.1529 μg L −1 ) and limit of quantitation (0.2017–0.5097 μg L −1 ). Satisfactory recoveries (88.38–103.44%) were obtained when applied to spiked food samples, demonstrating the substantial potential of this Fe 3 O 4 @ZIF-8@SMIP material for rapid enrichment and identification for multiple FQs residues.

Bridging dielectric-magnetic synergistic units with MOFs on fibers structure for high-efficient microwave absorption at low filler loading

Xiaona Ma,Fei Pan,Zheng Xiu,Lixin Li,Runa Zhang,Huiling Gu,Chunhua Sun,Yukui Gao,Wei Lu

Metal-organic framework (MOF) capable of magnetic-dielectric synergy loss mechanisms shine in the field of electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption, whereas their high filler loading in the matrix remains a challenge and limit their practical application. Here, we mono-disperse bimetallic CoZn-MOF on conductive carbon nanofibers precursor via electrospinning technique and a following heat-treatment was employed to construct a Co–ZnO@NC carbon nanofiber (CNF) composites. The Co–ZnO particles with a size of 2 μm are evenly distributed within the carbon fibers, forming a unique structure resembling a “pearl necklace”. The introduction of one-dimension (1D) CNF can prolong the electron transport path and effectively reduces the percolation threshold of the composites. The composites are endowed with abundant heterogeneous interfaces, excellent magnetic-dielectric synergy and improved impedance matching, benefiting from which the obtained Co–ZnO@NC CNF composites demonstrate a maximum reflection loss (RL min ) of −54.5 dB at a thickness of 2.3 mm and an effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) of 8.12 GHz at a filler loading of merely 10 %. This study provides a feasible strategy for the design of MOF-derived absorbers with enhanced microwave absorption capacity at low filler loading.

CO2-assisted rapid synthesis of porphyrin-based Bi-MOFs for photocatalytic CO2 reduction: An efficient strategy for carbon cycle

Mingjie Cheng,Bo Gao,Xiaoli Zheng,Wenzhuo Wu,Weiqian Kong,Pengfei Yan,Zubin Wang,Bin An,Yunpeng Zhang,Qingchao Li,Qun Xu

Exploring a facile, rapid and efficient route to produce metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with highly accessible active sites is of great importance for catalysis. Here we demonstrate the CO 2 coordination can drive low temperature rapid synthesis of porphyrin-based bismuth-MOFs (Bi-PMOFs) by utilizing synergistic physical and chemical properties of supercritical CO 2 (SC-Bi-PMOFs). The molecular-level role of scCO 2 in the synthesis of SC-Bi-PMOFs have been investigated through a series of characterizations including in-situ time-dependent infrared spectroscopy, wherein chemical coordination of CO 2 promotes to fabricate 2D SC-Bi-PMOFs nanosheets. Moreover, the formation of Cu-PMOFs and Fe-PMOFs proves the universal scCO 2 strategy for synthesizing PMOFs. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations together with experiments results confirm the SC-Bi-PMOFs with abundant active sites guarantee efficient ligand-to-metal charge transfer and reduction efficiency of CO 2 . The high-efficiency utilization of CO 2 for synthesizing a series of MOFs and subsequent catalysis on photocatalytic CO 2 reduction for valuable chemicals realize the carbon recycle.

Extra Unsaturated Metal Centers of Zirconium-Based MOFs: a Facile Approach towards Increasing CO2 Uptake Capacity at Low Pressure

Zhong Li,Xue Li,Chong Chen,Lijin Zhou,Qirui Guo,Dashui Yuan,Hui Wan,Jing Ding,Guofeng Guan

Graphical A facile route is applied to fabricate Zr–TCPP MOFs with incorporated open metal sites M 3+ (Fe 3+ and Al 3+ ) to enhance CO 2 uptake through strong interaction between central M 3+ and CO 2 molecules. Moreover, the CO 2 uptake on Zr–TCPP MOFs with extra Al 3+ ions is higher than that with extra Fe 3+ ions, and is ascribed to the higher isosteric heat of CO 2 adsorption. Developing adsorption materials to capture CO 2 at low pressure has attracted great attention due to the low CO 2 partial pressure in fuel gases. Herein, zirconium-based metal–organic frameworks (PCN-X) are successfully synthesized and open metal sites (Fe 3+ and Al 3+ ) are incorporated into the PCN-X MOFs. The results indicate that the CO 2 adsorption capability is enhanced through the strong interaction between extra open metal centers and CO 2 molecules at low pressure. Meanwhile, the CO 2 adsorption capacity of PCN-X with incorporated Al 3+ is higher than with incorporated Fe 3+ , which can be attributed to the higher isosteric heat of CO 2 adsorption. The adsorption kinetics further indicate the faster CO 2 transmission on PCN-X with extra Al 3+ than with extra Fe 3+ . Besides, modified PCN-X, treated by some inorganic acids, exhibits favorable chemical stability, which is suitable for CO 2 capture from acidic fuel gases.

Highly efficient synthesis of imine activated by noble-metal-free CuInS2/C composite catalyst from MOFs under mild conditions

Peng-Fei Guo,Le-Yan Li,Hang Xu,Bin Zhao

The self-coupling reaction of primary amines is an efficient method for obtaining imines, which are important components in the organic synthesis of medicines, pesticides, and fine chemical products. However, this reaction often requires the utilization of noble metals as catalysts to achieve high yields. Therefore, it is both desirable and challenging to explore efficient noble-metal-free catalysts. In this study, a composite catalyst of CuInS 2 / C with a regular octahedral shape and porous framework was synthesized using the HKUST-1 as precursor. The CuInS 2 / C catalyst exhibited effective catalytic activity in the self-coupling synthesis of imines under mild conditions, achieving a turnover frequency (TOF) of 105 h −1 , which surpasses other non-noble metal catalysts. Mechanism investigations revealed that the excellent catalytic performance of CuInS 2 / C was attributed to its Cu(I) center and porous structure. The former generates radicals, while the latter enhances the transport of substrates and products, facilitating imine synthesis. Importantly, the CuInS 2 / C catalyst could be reused at least four times and applied in gram-scale experiments, demonstrating promising practical applications. This research presents a direct approach to developing noble-metal-free and highly efficient composite catalysts for imine synthesis using MOFs as precursors.

Customization of indium-based MOFs for enhanced adsorptive and photocatalytic of organic pollutants: Morphology involvement on performance and mechanism

Wenliang Zhang,Yan Wang,Timing Fang,Xiao Tang,Zhezheng Ding,Yunhai Han,Ran Guo,Pengfei Qi,Xiaomin Liu

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as photocatalysts are promising candidates for environmental wastewater treatment owing to their tunable crystal structure, well-ordered donor–acceptor interface, and exceptional porosity. However, precise control over size and morphologies of MOFs to enhance adsorptive and photocatalytic performance is still a considerable challenge. Herein, the MIL-68(In)–NH 2 (MN) MOFs with special acicular structure are customized by a facile method, in which the growth of crystal nuclei is inhibited and regulated by pyridine. The formation mechanism of MN with different morphologies and size is introduced, and their photocatalytic activities are systematically explored by degrading model pollutants tetracycline (TC) and dyes under visible light irradiation. Benefiting from its high specific surface area and the exposed large lattice spacing facet, the wool-ball morphology MN (MN-W) with surface acicular nanostructure presents an optimum photocatalytic performance compared to other MN morphologies. The MN-W also exhibits excellent adsorption capacity, remarkable cyclic stability, and good practical organic wastewater treatment capability. The possible photodegradation mechanism and pathways are elucidated, demonstrating that h + is the primary reactive species, followed by •OH and •O 2 – radicals, responsible for the degradation of TC. This work is anticipated to tailoring design and modulate MOF photocatalysts for boosting the photocatalytic performance towards organic effluents remediation.
