Comparative investigation of insulation techniques based on APTES for different structures and magnetic properties of soft magnetic composites

Kun Wan,Wei Liu,Yue Ding,Xu Zhu,Hailin Su,Xuebin Zhang,Zhongqiu Zou,Jinzhi Wang

FeNi powders were insulated with APTES by solution method and solidification method, respectively. Different coating mechanisms have been systematically studied according to analysis on microstructure, surface charge state, thermal stability of magnetic powders and magnetic properties of corresponding soft magnetic composites (SMCs). It was found that a slight amount of polysiloxane and amorphous silica would be deposited on FeNi powders in solution method, resulting in an ultra-thin insulation layer. In contrast, continuously increasing concentration of polysiloxane in reaction zone gives rise to a thick and smooth SiO 2 layer in solidification method. Owing to unique growth mechanisms of solidification method, it is easy to control the thickness of SiO 2 layer by adjusting the concentration of APTES, which is in favor of improving insulation quality. Accordingly, FeNi SMCs prepared in solidification method own much higher resistivity, lower μ ″ and lower tan δ (particularly at high frequency), compared with samples obtained by solution method with the same volume of APTES. Besides, increasing volume of APTES in solidification method leads to the decrease of both μ′ and μ″ . This work may not only provide novel insights into APTES-based insulation process, but also offer powerful technique for fabricating high-frequency SMCs.

Boron pretreatment promotes phosphorization of FeNi catalysts for oxygen evolution

Chendong Kou,Jieshu Zhou,Haibin Wang,Jingrui Han,Mei Han,Alberto Vomiero,Yongchang Liu,Hongyan Liang

Oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is a crucial half-reaction for many energy conversion technologies, which requires efficient catalysts to boost its sluggish kinetics. Herein, the FeNi catalyst with a high phosphating level (HP-Fe x Ni 2−x P) is constructed by a three-step synthetic route: (i) hydrothermal deposition of lamellar sheets, (ii) NaBH 4 pretreatment, and (iii) in situ phosphorization. FeNi layered double lamellar hydroxides were synthesized as the pre-catalysts. Then NaBH 4 pretreatment was used to remove the oxide impurities and introduce oxygen vacancies to promote phosphorization in the subsequent process. Finally, HP-Fe x Ni 2−x P nanosheets were achieved, with several advantages like abundant exposed active sites, high conductivity, and accessible mass transport channels. During the OER process, FeNiOOH/HP-Fe x Ni 2−x P interfaces are formed through spontaneous electrochemical activation and surface reconstruction. Benefitting from the synergistic interfacial effect and abundant exposed active sites, the NiFe based catalysts show an overpotential of ≈ 208 mV to reach 10 mA cm −2 in 1 M KOH, and a stability of 200 h at 1 A cm −2 . Overall, this work reports the rational design and preparation of a highly active OER catalyst, but also provides a general route through NaBH 4 pretreatment, which can be usefully applied to promote phosphorization in other systems of interest for catalytic applications.

Hollow FeNi/NiFe2O4-Codoped Carbon Composite Nanorods for Electromagnetic Wave Absorption

Hui-Min Wen,Hongdu Jin,Jiannan Pan,Qu Hong,Huipeng Lv,Bo Xie,John Q. Xiao,Jun Hu

Electromagnetic wave absorbers (EMWAs) with light weight, strong absorption, broad absorption width, and thin thickness are in high demand. Metal–organic frameworks are considered to be an emerging type of ideal sacrificial precursor to synthesize multicomponent magnetic nanoparticles/porous carbon composites. Most of these multicomponent composites exhibit brilliant electromagnetic-wave-absorbing performances because of multifarious absorption mechanisms and better impedance matching. In this work, hollow spindle-shaped FeNi/NiFe2O4-doped carbon composite nanorods, denoted as FeNiC, were synthesized by one-step calcination of FeNi bimetallic MIL-101 at 600, 700, and 800 °C. A strong reflection loss (RL) of −62.7 dB and a broad effective absorption bandwidth (Δfe) of 7.46 GHz (12.4–18 GHz) covering the entire Ku band were optimized through control of the calcination temperature and thickness of paraffin wax. The remarkable EMWA performance was mainly attributed to the synergistic effect of hierarchical pores, geometric structure, and dielectric and magnetic losses. This work may provide an inspiring method to integrate multiple components and hierarchically porous structures to achieve lightweight and broadband EMWAs.

Selective degradation of organic pollutants by highly dispersed Fe, Ni anchored on nitrogen carbon activating persulfate system: Electron transfer promotion, the impact of pollutant redox and adsorption properties

Yuqi Liu,Yongqing Zhang,Lijin Zhang,Waseem Hayat,Xuefeng Wu,Hong Meng,Que Wu

The advanced oxidation processes using persulfate (PS-AOPs) as oxidant is an effective way to remove refractory organic pollutants from environment. Designing activators with higher activation efficiency and stability plays an important role in degradation of organic pollutants via PS-AOPs. Furthermore, redox and adsorption properties of pollutants also affect the selective degradation efficiency. In this study, we synthesized FeNi@CN derived from ZIF-8 in which highly dispersed Fe and Ni were anchored on nitrogen (N) doped carbon (C). The activator exhibited high activation potential and stability for paracetamol (PCT) degradation by activated peroxymonosulfate (PMS). The FeNi@CN/PMS system degraded PCT through electron transfer pathway, and the coordination of Fe-N and Ni-N improved the efficiency of catalyst mediated electron transfer. The abundant pyridinic N provided a large number of sites for PMS complexation. The bimetallic synergistic effect and N doping endowed the excellent comprehensive performance of FeNi@CN. The significant impact of pollutant redox and adsorption properties on degradation efficiency were also studied. It was observed that high half-wave potential ( E 1/2 ) and excessive adsorption were not conducive to electron transfer. Multi-parameter linear fitting was performed on the degradation rates of different pollutants using half-wave potential and pseudo first order adsorption rate constants, which showed the good correlation among them. This work not only provided insights into the mechanism and the influence of activator structure on electron transfer in PMS activation, but also proposed a new model to describe the effects of redox and adsorption properties on selective degradation of various category pollutants.

Ultra-wide band electromagnetic wave absorption by decorating the magnetic particles on two-dimensional Ti3C2Tx

Li Tong hui,Ma Lin,Wang Li,Wang Hai bo,Li Bo,Han Meng yao,Li Diao feng,Bai Chun guang,Dong Ming dong,Shen Long hai,Ma Song,Qi Feng

The single-layer Ti 3 C 2 T x /MXene has become a special electromagnetic wave absorber near the terahertz band because of its abundant surface groups and excellent conductivity. However, the macro-preparation of single-layer Ti 3 C 2 T x /MXene shows significantly difficult to influence its application. The two-dimensional Ti 3 C 2 T x is easily prepared to have high production, but its weak absorption ability due to high surface conductivity also restricts its application. To realize the strong electromagnetic wave absorption of two-dimensional Ti 3 C 2 T x /MXene, a new strategy with magnetic FeNi nanoparticles decorating Ti 3 C 2 T x /MXene composites (FeNi-Ti 3 C 2 T x ) were proposed and the effective electromagnetic wave absorption features covering 170–220 GHz that means the absorption band width reach 50 GHz. With an absorber composite film thickness being only 0.6 mm, the absorptivity of the composite is enhanced with the increase of decorating FeNi nanoparticles and promote up to 75% when the FeNi nanoparticles loading content reaches 30 wt%. The improvement of absorption is attributed to the introduction of soft magnetic FeNi to adjust the high surface conductivity of MXene and improve the electromagnetic balance of the absorber. Significant Improvement in Magnetorheological Performance by Controlling Micron Interspaces with High Permeability Submicron Particles

Tianxiang Du,Ning Ma,Zenghui Zhao,Yitong Liu,Xufeng Dong,Hao Huang

The shear yield strength, sedimentation stability and zero-field viscosity of magnetorheological fluids (MRFs) are crucial for practical vibration damping applications, yet achieving a balanced combination of these performances remains challenging. Developing MRFs with excellent comprehensive performance is key to advancing smart vibration damping technologies further. Theoretically, incorporating a multiscale particle system and leveraging synergistic effects between their can somewhat enhance MRFs’ performance. However, this approach often faces issues such as insignificant increases in shear yield strength and excessive rise in zero-field viscosity. In response, this study employs a DC arc plasma method to synthesize a high magnetic permeability, low coercivity submicron FeNi particles, and further develops a novel CIPs-FeNi bidisperse MRFs. The introduction of submicron FeNi particles not only significantly enhances the shear2019 yield strength of MRFs under low magnetic fields but also promotes improvements in sedimentation stability and redispersibility without excessively increasing viscosity. Comprehensive performance analysis is conducted to explore the optimal content ratio, and detailed mechanisms for the enhancement of performance are elucidated through analysis of parameters such as chain-like structure, magnetic flux density and friction coefficient. Most importantly, the superior comprehensive performance combined with straightforward fabrication methods significantly enhances the engineering applicability of the CIPs-FeNi bidisperse MRFs.

Microstructure and performances of FeBSiPCNbCu/FeNi soft magnetic composites and molded inductors

Cai Mengyang,Xing Liye,Zhang Ling,Dong Yaqiang,Jia Xingjie,He Aina,Li Jiawei,Man Qikui,Song Wenle,Wang Lei,Shen Baogen

Driven by growing terminal markets, molding inductors are advancing toward higher frequencies, miniaturization, and higher currents capacities, with Fe-based nanocrystalline alloys serving as ideal high-frequency materials. While their high hardness reduces the compactness of soft magnetic composites (SMCs), this limitation is mitigated by compounding with small-sized FeNi powders owing to their superior properties. In this work, FeBSiPCNbCu/FeNi soft magnetic composites were fabricated by blending large-particle nanocrystalline powder with small-sized FeNi powder. The effects of FeNi content on the magnetic and mechanical properties were systematically investigated. Results indicate significant improvements at 70 wt% FeNi powder, the corresponding magnetic powder core exhibited an impressive effective permeability of 27, a saturation magnetic induction intensity of 1.16 T, and a low core loss of 900.4 mW/cm 3 (20 mT, 2 MHz). In contrast, the core without FeNi powder exhibited values of 16.8, 0.94 T, and 3140.4 mW/cm3, respectively. Additionally, the radial crushing strength was enhanced by 103.7%, increasing from 143.1 to 291.5 MPa. Finally, a production verification test was conducted on the fabricated molding inductors, which demonstrated excellent performance: a DC resistance of 2.01 mΩ, a saturation current of 40 A, and a temperature rise current of 21 A, respectively. These findings demonstrate the significant potential of this material system for practical production applications.

FeNi Prussian blue analogues on highly graphitized carbon nanosheets as efficient glucose sensors

Xue Jin-Hang,Sun Qiu-Hong,Han Cheng,Yang Yuan-Dong,Xu Shao-Jie,Li Qi-Peng,Qian Jin-Jie

Meeting the continuous glucose monitoring requirements of individuals necessitates the research and development of sensors with high sensitivity and stability. In this study, a straightforward strategy was proposed for synthesizing ultra-thin oxygen-rich graphitized carbon nanosheets (denoted as GCS-O). These nanosheets are obtained by calcining a topologically two-dimensional indium-based coordination polymer. Subsequently, the growth of FeNi Prussian blue analogue (PBA) on GCS-O effectively introduces active sites and increases the nitrogen content within the carbonaceous matrix. The resulting FeNi-PBA/GCS-O composite exhibits excellent glucose sensing performance with a broad linear range of 1 to 1300 μmol·L −1 . Meanwhile, it also achieves a high sensitivity of 2496 μA·mmol −1 ·L·cm −2 , a limit of detection of 100 nmol·L −1 (S/N = 3), and commendable long-term durability. The relatively simple synthesis process, exceptional sensitivity, and satisfactory electrochemical sensing performance of FeNi-PBA/GCS-O open up new directions for biosensor applications. High-performance microwave absorption from biomass-derived porous helical carbon coils/FeNi composites

Chen Hao,Ma Zhongyun,Wang Zhijun,Liu Xinglong,Zheng Mengwei,Li Xinke,Tao Feng

This study presents a novel porous helical carbon coils/iron-nickel alloy (HCCs/FeNi) composite, fabricated via an efficient catalytic graphitization process, which exhibits exceptional microwave absorption performance. By synergistically combining the unique porous helical architecture of biomass-derived carbon with the superior magnetic loss of FeNi alloys, the composite achieves an outstanding minimum reflection loss (RL min ) of -53.85 dB and a broad effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) of up to 5.16 GHz. This remarkable performance is attributed to synergistic mechanisms involving the distinctive helical and porous structure, abundant structural defects, optimal impedance matching, and multiple polarization relaxations. Our work not only underscores the great promise of biomass-derived carbon structures for electromagnetic wave absorption but also provides a viable design strategy for developing high-performance broadband microwave absorbers.

Hybrid inorganic-organic capsules encapsulated FeNi with enhanced corrosion resistance and microwave absorption

Yang Guo,Kehua Tan,Xiaoying Guo,Jinmin Wei,Haipeng Lu

Responding to the critical need for stable microwave absorption (MA) devices in complex and extreme environments, dual-function electromagnetic wave absorbers have garnered significant attention. Addressing this, we developed a novel FeNi-based composite encapsulated within superhydrophobic SiO 2 @Perfluorooctyltriethoxysilane (F13)/Methyltrimethoxysilane (MTMS) hybrid capsules, approximately 28-nm-thick, utilizing a straightforward one-pot strategy. This innovative FeNi@SiO 2 @F13/MTMS composite surpassed pure FeNi, exhibiting an effective MA bandwidth of 8.16 GHz and a minimal reflection loss value of −24.03 dB at 2.00 mm. It also boasted the largest radar scattering cross-section reduction value recorded at 21.09 dB m 2 . The enhanced MA properties were primarily attributed to the SiO 2 @F13/MTMS, which significantly improved the substrate's impedance matching. In addition to facilitating multiple scattering and reflection, it also triggered dipole and interfacial polarization. Moreover, the SiO 2 @F13/MTMS layer was instrumental in reducing the corrosion current density of FeNi from 3.512 mA cm 2 to 5.59 nA cm 2 , thereby demonstrating exceptional corrosion resistance. This remarkable improvement was largely due to the surface hydrophobicity and the barrier effect provided by the hybrid capsules. Our exploration into corrosion-resistant and efficient MA materials provides valuable insights for the rational design of bifunctional components tailored for specific applications.

MOF-Derived Porous Carbon-Supported Bimetallic Fischer–Tropsch Synthesis Catalysts

Aimei Wang,Mingsheng Luo,Baozhong Lü,Yongji Song,Zhi Yang,Min Li,Buchang Shi,Iltaf Khan

Generally, incorporating different metals in a catalyst can provide a synergistic effect for enhancing the catalytic performance. However, the interaction between the two metals and the effect on the catalytic performance seem elusive. In this work, a bimetallic metal–organic framework (MOF) is synthesized, and then, a novel bimetallic catalyst is prepared for Fischer–Tropsch synthesis (FTS). The combination of these different metals and a MOF-derived porous carbon supporter offers a unique active surface structure that may lead to improved catalytic performance. Herein, alloy-type structures were observed in FeCo and FeNi bimetallic MOF-derived catalysts, while a solid solution with a spinel structure were observed in FeMn and FeZn bimetallic MOF-derived catalysts. The bimetallic catalysts supported on MOF-derived porous carbon display stable and excellent catalytic performance during 100 h compared with a single-metal Fe catalyst. X-ray diffraction measurement, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and H2 temperature-programed reduction were employed to study the synergistic effect of bimetallic components on surface composition and electronic and reduction properties accordingly. The relationship between catalytic performance and catalyst composition was deeply studied. These research work results will provide a new approach to design novel bimetallic FT catalysts.

Controlled self-assembled FeNi alloy/graphene foam composite for lightweight and broadband microwave absorption

Zhen Liu,Bo Wang,Shicheng Wei,Wei Huang,Yujiang Wang,Yi Liang,Xinyang Wang,Zhengjie Yang

The search for lightweight and broadband microwave absorbing materials (MAMs) is crucial to fulfill the demands of practical applications. Herein, an FeNi alloy/graphene foam (FNGF) composite was prepared by a facile one-step hydrothermal method. The microwave-absorbing properties of the FNGF with varying concentrations of FeNi alloy (samples designated as 1#, 2#, 3#, 4#, and 5#) were systematically studied. Remarkably, with an ultra-low filling content of 5 wt%, the composite still achieves excellent microwave absorbing performance. As expected, the effective absorption bandwidth of sample 1# covers the entire Ku band (11.76–18 GHz) at a thickness of only 2.09 mm, and sample 3# reaches a minimum reflection loss of −63.76 dB at 15.68 GHz. FeNi alloys have a significant influence on the microscopic morphology, phase structure, and electromagnetic properties of composites. The superior MA properties can be attributed to the synergistic effect of superior impedance matching, robust dielectric loss, and magnetic loss. Notably, FNGF presents as a promising candidate for lightweight broadband MAMs.
