Anti-corrosion and anti-fouling properties of ball-like GQDs hybrided MOFs functionalized with silane in waterborne epoxy-polydimethylsiloxane coatings: Experimental and theoretical studies

Ziyang Zhou,Abdolvahab Seif,Sepideh Pourhashem,Jizhou Duan,Alimorad Rashidi,Majid Mirzaee,Pier Luigi Silvestrelli,Baorong Hou

In this research, two strategies including epoxy matrix modification with 3-aminopropyltriethoxy silane (APTES) and polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) as well as loading APTES-modified hybrids of graphene quantum dots and metal-organic framework (F-GQDs@MOF) are used to gain a composite epoxy coating with advance resistance against corrosion and fouling on Q235 steel structures. The X-ray analysis of diffraction and photoelectron spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and morphology monitoring by transmission electron microscopy indicate that the GQDs are inserted inside the MOF structure through the in situ reaction, and the hybrid is successfully functionalized with the silane alkoxides. The EP-PDMS/F-GQDs@MOF composite coating shows high water contact angle (more than 100°), low surface roughness, high adhesion strength (8.5 MPa which is 2 times more than the EP-PDMS), superior electrochemical resistance (more than 10 8 Ω.cm 2 which is comparable with EP-PDMS sample with 10 6 Ω.cm 2 impedance modulus after immersion in the NaCl solution for 60 days), and negligible corrosion products and blisters after salt spray test. Moreover, the achieved data by the density functional theory (DFT) method show that the functionalization of the GQDs affects remarkably the strengthening of the interface between this moiety and the MOF in such a way to retard the electrochemical reactions. Besides, the results of immersion in Qingdao port reveal that negligible amounts of marine organisms have covered the surface of the EP-PDMS/F-GQDs@MOF sample, while Styela clava and Botrylloides sp. are attached on the EP-PDMS surface. The antibacterial activity of the EP-PDMS/F-GQDs@MOF against Pseudomonas sp. is proved by low attached bacteria on its surface.

A fluorescence aptasensor for high sensitivity detection of Golgi protein 73 based on N, S-GQDs and MoS2@RGO via fluorescence resonance energy transfer mechanism

Guiyin Li,Xiaohong Tan,Shuang Liang,Qiufei Yu,Yibin Yu,Xiangming Li,Zhide Zhou

s Quantitative detection of Golgi protein 73 (GP73), a promising biomarker for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), is crucial for early diagnosis. In this study, we developed a fluorescence aptasensor for sensitive and specific detection of GP73 based on fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) between GP73 aptamer-functionalized nitrogen/sulfur co-doped graphene quantum dots (N, S-GQDs-GP73 Apt ) as the fluorescence donor and molybdenum disulfide@reduced graphene oxide (MoS 2 @RGO) as the fluorescence acceptor. In the absence of GP73, the fluorescence of N, S-GQDs-GP73 Apt was effectively quenched by MoS 2 @RGO. Upon introduction of GP73, specific binding between GP73 and its aptamer triggered dissociation of the donor-acceptor complex, disrupting FRET and restoring fluorescence. Under optimized conditions, the normalized fluorescence intensity showed a good linear relationship with GP73 concentration ranging from 0.0001 to 100.0 μg/mL, with a low detection limit of 0.019 ng/mL. The aptasensor's performance was further validated using human serum samples with relative error ranging of 0.76%–3.85% and no statistically significant difference via t -test compared with ELISA results, demonstrating its potential as a reliable and cost-effective platform for early HCC diagnosis. Sensitive and selective detection of chromium (VI) via static quenching using a graphene quantum dots/bismuth oxybromide/graphitic carbon nitride (GQDs/BiOBr/g-C3N4) fluorescent probe

Yuankun Liu,Yeqian Huang,Yuanqi Cao,Xinxia Zhang,Ying Wang,Xing Li

Hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) poses considerable environmental and health hazards owing to its high solubility and mobility. Therefore, developing highly sensitive detection methods for Cr(VI) is essential. In this work, a multifunctional graphene quantum dots/bismuth oxybromide/graphitic carbon nitride (GQDs/BiOBr/g-C 3 N 4 ) fluorescent probe with excellent detection and removal capabilities was synthesized through integrated hydrothermal treatment, calcination, and coprecipitation. Optimization studies showed that maximum sensitivity was achieved at pH 7.5, a probe concentration of 2.5 mg/L, and a reaction time of 20 min. Cr(VI) induced selective fluorescence quenching at 436 nm, displaying a linear response (R 2 = 0.966) over the range of 0–200 μmol/L, with a detection limit of 24.84 μmol/L. The probe maintained > 90 % fluorescence stability under UV irradiation (365 nm, 180 min), high ionic strength (0.1 mol/L NaCl), and in the presence of various interferents (10 common metal ions and non-fluorescent dyes). Analysis of the nonlinear Stern–Volmer plot, EDTA-2Na-mediated fluorescence recovery, and lifetime measurements suggests a static quenching mechanism, in which the excited-state electrons of GQDs/BiOBr/g-C 3 N 4 interact with Cr(VI), driving a nonradiative complexation process. This study demonstrates a dual-functional material capable of simultaneous Cr(VI) detection and removal, providing a practical platform for environmental monitoring.

Switch-on fluorescent strategy based on N and S co-doped graphene quantum dots (N-S/GQDs) for monitoring pyrophosphate ions in synovial fluid of arthritis patients

Zongen Liu,Jiecheng Xiao,Xianwei Wu,Liqing Lin,Shaohuang Weng,Min Chen,Xiaohui Cai,Xinhua Lin

This work reports a facile and effective approach for preparing graphene quantum dots co-doped with nitrogen and sulfur (N-S/GQDs). The proposed method comprised pyrolysis of citric acid with glutathione and dialysis treatment. The fabricated N-S/GQDs exhibited blue luminescence and a high fluorescence quantum yield of 36.3%. N-S/GQDs can be sensitively quenched by Fe 3+ , which was absorbed on the edge of N-S/GQDs through the coordination interaction between Fe 3+ and N, S elements. The subsequent introduction of pyrophosphate ion (PPi) resulted in the recovery of the fluorescence of Fe 3+ -quenched N-S/GQDs. The stronger coordination reactivity between Fe 3+ and PPi induced changes in fluorescence. PPi concentration was facilely quantified through the recovered amplitudes of the fluorescence intensities of N-S/GQDs. Under the optimized experimental condition, increased fluorescence intensity showed a linear relationship to PPi concentration (1   μM to 1000   μM) in serum samples. Additionally, the proposed method featured sensitive and selectivity for the detection of PPi in synovial fluid, suggesting the potential application for simple and accurate clinical diagnosis of arthritic diseases.

A High-Luminescence Biomimetic Nanosensor Based on N, S-GQDs-Embedded Zinc-Based Metal–Organic Framework@Molecularly Imprinted Polymer for Sensitive Detection of Octopamine in Fermented Foods

Ying Guo,Guanqing Yuan,Xuelian Hu,Jinni Zhang,Guozhen Fang

In this study, a novel fluorescent molecularly imprinted nanosensor (N, S-GQDs@ZIF-8@MIP) based on the nitrogen and sulfur co-doped graphene quantum dots decorated zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 was constructed for the detection of octopamine (OA). Herein, ZIF-8 with a large surface area was introduced as a supporter of the sensing system, which effectively shortened the response time of the sensor. Meanwhile, high green luminescent N, S-GQDs and a maximum emission wavelength of 520 nm under 460 nm excitation and a 12.5% quantum yield were modified on the surface of ZIF-8 as a signal tag that can convert the interactions between the sensor and OA into detectable fluorescent signals. Finally, N, S-GQDs@ZIF-8@MIP was acquired through the surface molecular imprinting method. Due to the synergy of N, S-GQDs, ZIF-8, and MIP, the obtained sensor not only demonstrated higher selectivity and sensitivity than N, S-GQDs@ZIF-8@NIP, but also displayed faster fluorescence response than N, S-GQDs@MIP. Under optimal conditions, the developed sensor presented a favorable linear relationship in the range of 0.1–10 mg L−1with a detection limit of 0.062 mg L−1. Additionally, the proposed N, S-GQDs@ZIF-8@MIP strategy was effectively applied to the detection of OA in fermented samples, and the obtained results had a satisfactory correlation with those of HPLC.Keywords:N/S co-doped graphene quantum dots;zeolitic imidazolate framework-8;molecularly imprinted polymer;octopamine;fluorescent sensor

Fluorescent Hydrogel Sensor Based upon Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA), Polyethylene Glycol (PEG), and Aptamer-Functionalized Graphene Quantum Dots (GQDs-Apt) for the On-Site Determination of Acetamiprid Residues in Vegetables

Xin Zhang,Jingcheng Huang,Rui Xu,Jiashuai Sun,Pengwei Zhang,Xingkang Zhang,Fangling Du,Yemin Guo,Xia Sun

There is a growing concern that residues of agricultural chemicals in fresh produce may pose a risk to public health. Acetamiprid, a broad spectrum insecticide, has attracted increasing attention due to its potential toxicity and environmental persistence. Although conventional analytical techniques offer high accuracy, they are often labor intensive and instrument dependent. To address these limitations, this study aimed to develop a rapid, sensitive, and straightforward method for the detection of acetamiprid residues in leafy vegetables. This study was the first to utilize the water retention property of hydrogels in the detection reaction. The assay could be conducted directly on the vegetable surface without spraying detection reagents. This design greatly simplified the analytical procedure. A fluorescent aptamer based composite hydrogel sensor was successfully fabricated using polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), a polyethylene glycol (PEG) based crosslinked polymer, and aptamer functionalized graphene quantum dots (GQDs-Apt). The composite hydrogel was crosslinked with glutaraldehyde (GA), resulting in a stable three-dimensional network structure with excellent biocompatibility and mechanical strength. The GQDs-Apt conjugates served as the signal reporting units, whose fluorescence characteristics were modulated by the binding interaction between the aptamer and acetamiprid, thereby conferring high sensitivity and selectivity. In the absence of acetamiprid, the aptamer probe remained associated with the graphene quantum dot surface, leading to fluorescence quenching. Upon introduction of the target pesticide, the aptamer preferentially bound to acetamiprid, inducing a conformational change that facilitated detachment of the probe from the quantum dot surface and subsequent fluorescence recovery. This "quenching–recovery" signaling mechanism provided the theoretical basis and practical framework for the quantitative detection of acetamiprid. The fluorescence changes within the hydrogel network were exploited for both the screening and precise quantification of the pesticide. Performance metrics revealed a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.005 μmol L−1, a dynamic range of 0.01 to 10 μmol L−1, and R2 of 0.9971. Validation in real matrices of cabbage, leek and tomato demonstrated robust accuracy and repeatability, with fortified recoveries between 96.11% and 99.47%, relative standard deviation (RSD) below 3.11%, and an equilibration time of less than 20 minutes. This strategy provides a rapid, user friendly, high resolution, and reliable tool for agricultural product safety and environmental monitoring.

Molecularly imprinted electrochemical sensor based on synergistic interaction of honeycomb-like Ni-MOF decorated with AgNPs and N-GQDs for ultra-sensitive detection of olaquindox in animal-origin food

Shuang Han,Ruonan Sun,Le Zhao,Chen Yan,Hongtao Chu

Olaquindox (OLA) in food from its illegal use possesses great harmful effects on humans, making it important to develop sensitive, inexpensive, and convenient methods for OLA detection. This study innovatively presented a molecularly imprinted electrochemical sensor based on the synergistic effects of nitrogen-doped graphene quantum dots ( N -GQDs) and a nickel-based metal–organic framework functionalized with silver nanoparticles (Ag/Ni-MOF) for OLA detection. N -GQDs and Ag/Ni-MOF with unique honeycomb structures were sequentially modified on the glassy carbon electrode (GCE) surface to accelerate the electron transfer rate and increase the available region of the electrode. Molecularly imprinted polymers were further grown on the Ag/Ni-MOF/ N -GQDs/GCE by electropolymerization to significantly enhance the selective recognition of OLA. The constructed sensor showed excellent performance for selective OLA determination, with a wide linear range (5–600 nmol·L -1 ) and exceedingly low detection limit (2.2 nmol·L -1 ). The sensor was successfully applied to detect OLA in animal-origin food with satisfactory recoveries (96.22–101.02%).

pH-Responsive Oxygen and Hydrogen Peroxide Self-Supplying Nanosystem for Photodynamic and Chemodynamic Therapy of Wound Infection

Yunsu Ma,Huanghuang Xu,Bo Sun,Silin Du,Shuai Cui,Li Zhang,Ning Ding,Dongzhi Yang

The combination of photodynamic therapy (PDT) and chemodynamic therapy (CDT) has been continuously explored in the antibacterial aspect and has achieved more effective antibacterial effect than a single therapy. We design a pH-responsive O2 and H2O2 self-supplying zeolitic imidazolate framework-67 (ZIF-67) nanosystem for PDT/CDT of wound infection. Under the acidic inflammatory conditions, ZIF-67 can degrade to produce Co2+ and release CaO2 and graphene quantum dots (GQDs). The exposed CaO2 reacted with water to generate H2O2 and O2. The self-supplied O2 alleviates hypoxia at the site of inflammation and enhances external light-initiated GQD-mediated PDT, while H2O2 was catalyzed by endogenous Co2+ to produce hydroxyl radicals for Co2+-triggered CDT. In vitro and in vivo experiments confirm that CaO2/GQDs@ZIF-67 has a combined PDT/CDT effect. The antibacterial mechanism indicates that bacteria post-treated with CaO2/GQDs@ZIF-67 may be sterilized by reactive oxygen species-mediated oxidative stress and the leakage of bacterial contents. The experiments also find that CaO2/GQDs@ZIF-67 may activate the immune response and enhance the therapeutic effect by activating the cyclic GMP–AMP synthase–stimulator of interferon genes signaling pathway.

Direct white emissive Cl-doped graphene quantum dots-based flexible film as a single luminophore for remote tunable UV-WLEDs

Xiao-Fei Wang,Gui-Gen Wang,Jia-Bing Li,Zheng Liu,You-Xiao Chen,Long-Fei Liu,Jie-Cai Han

Herein we first report new chlorine-doped graphene quantum dots (Cl-GQDs) that can be used in solid-state white-light-emitting diodes (WLEDs). The Cl-GQDs with a mean size of 1.53 nm are obtained by one-step hydrothermal method using β-cyclodextrin and hydrochloric acid as the source materials. The PL emission spectra of the Cl-GQDs show an excitation-wavelength-dependent behavior in the range from 300 to 380 nm excitation. Under UV irradiation, the Cl-GQDs can direct emit white light. Given that they are worth using in light-conversion, Cl-GQDs embedded solid composite film (Cl-ESCF), based on silicon resin as host material, is successfully fabricated by solution-processing approach. The freestanding Cl-ESCF has high transparency and flexibility, excellent photostability and temperature resistance, and retains its optical properties in the solid state. In order to realize its potential, the Cl-ESCF converted remote UV-pumped WLED is demonstrated. The results verify that the Cl-GQDs can be homogeneously dispersed within solid matrix without obvious aggregation so that a uniform and defect-free natural white light can be obtained. In addition, our WLED possesses favorable white-light characters with the CIE of (0.33, 0.34), moderate CCT of 5653 K, and high CRI of 87.6, as well as good color and LED stability. This single-phase rare-earth-free white-luminescent Cl-GQDs may be not only expected to prevent the drawbacks of multicolor phosphors, thereby generating high-quality white emission, but also identified to be a green alternative for conventional emitters.
