Poly (3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene): poly (styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT: PSS) is a widely used hole transport material in tin-lead perovskite solar cells, yet its photoelectric properties require further enhancement. Herein, we develop a rational gradient doping strategy using DL-carnitine hydrochloride (DL-ChCl) to regulate PEDOT: PSS and improve its buried interface with the tin-lead perovskite. The DL-ChCl induces high p-type doping in PEDOT: PSS, resulting in enhanced conductivity and an elevated work function for improved hole extraction via favorable energy level alignment. Simultaneously, the crystallization quality of the tin-lead perovskite is also enhanced by hindering Sn 2+ oxidation, passivating interfacial defects, and preventing the formation of lead iodide. As a result, a champion power conversion efficiency of the inverted tin-lead perovskite solar cell is enhanced from 18.56% to 21.23% with the open-circuit voltage as high as 0.865 V. The stability of the optimized device without encapsulation is also improved, sustaining 90% of its initial efficiency after aging in a nitrogen atmosphere for 1200 h. This work provides an effective gradient doping strategy to engineer the buried interface between PEDOT: PSS and tin-lead perovskite, improving the photovoltaic performance of tin-lead perovskite solar cells.

Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS)-based hydrogels have emerged as ideal interfacing materials for bioelectronics because of their intriguing electrical, mechanical, and biological properties. However, the development of high-performance PEDOT:PSS-based hydrogels simultaneously achieving high conductivity, robust mechanical properties, and accessibility for advanced manufacturing technologies remains a critical challenge for further advancing such materials toward practical applications. Herein, we develop a highly conductive, intrinsically soft, tough yet stretchable PEDOT:PSS-based hydrogel via a simple PSS-chain engineering strategy of introducing thermally cross-linkable N-(hydroxymethyl)acrylamide segments. The resultant PEDOT:PSS hydrogel exhibits high electrical conductivity (1850 S m–1), high stretchability (>50%), low Young’s modulus (4 MPa), and superior toughness (400 kJ m–3), satisfying multiple property requirements for practical bioelectronic applications. Based on this material, we further develop a novel PEDOT:PSS ink with superior 3D printability for direct ink writing 3D printing, enabling us to facilely fabricate bioelectronic devices like soft skin electrodes comparable to commercial products via multi-material 3D printing.

Photovoltaic (PV) panels with vivid colors provide an additional dimension for developing new applications such as aesthetically appealing solar buildings and mobile products. Thus, rendering PV panel colorful at low cost while keeping high power conversion efficiency (PCE) is of great interest to the community. Based on polymer/Si heterojunction test cells, here we report that color rendering can be made by modifying the optical refractive index of the PEDOT:PSS films. The key to achieving the desired refractive index of the PEDOT:PSS layer for a specific color is to select proper doping material. Guided by theoretical modeling analysis, we have developed 1 × 1 cm 2 silicon heterojunction solar cells with colors across the entire visible spectrum while simultaneously achieving a competitive PCE of 13.2%. As a solution-based process is used to fabricate the Si heterojunction cells, the method reported here can be readily scaled up using mature industrial tools such as inkjet printers.

During the COVID-19 (Corona Virus Disease 2019) pandemic, traditional medical goggles are not only easy to attach bacteria and viruses in long-term exposure, but easy to fogged up, which increases the risk of infection and affects productivity. Bacterial adhesion and fog can be significantly inhibited through the hydrogel coatings, owing to super hydrophilic properties. On the one hand, hydrogel coatings are easy to absorb water and swell in wet environment, resulting in reduced mechanical properties, even peeling off. On the other hand, the hydrogel coatings don't have intrinsic antibacterial properties, which still poses a potential risk of bacterial transmission. Herein, an anti-swelling and antibacterial hydrogel coating is synthesized by 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA), acrylamide (AM), dimethylaminoethyl acrylate bromoethane (IL-Br), and poly(sodium-p-styrenesulfonate) (PSS). Due to the self-driven entropy reduction effect of polycation and polyanion, an ion cross-linking network is formed, which endows the hydrogel coating with excellent antiswelling performance. Moreover, because of the synergistic effect of highly hydrated surfaces and the active bactericidal effect from quaternary ammonium cations, the hydrogel coating exhibits outstanding antifouling performances. This work develops a facile strategy to fabricate anti-swelling, antifouling, and antifogging hydrogel coatings for the protection of medical goggles, and also for biomedical and marine antifouling fields.

In this work, a smartphone-based electrochemical detection system was designed and developed for rapid and real-time detection of dopamine (DA). The system included a screen-printed electrode (SPE) used as a sensor, a hand-held electrochemical potentiostat and a smart phone with a specially designed app. During the detection period, the SPEs modified with poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT), chitosan (CS) and graphene (G) were used to convert and amplify the electrochemical reaction signals. The electrochemical potentiostat was used to generate excitation electrical signals and collect the electrical signals converted from the sensor. The smartphone—connected to the detector via Bluetooth-was used to control the detector for tests, further process the uploaded data, and plot graphs in real time. Experimental results showed that the self-designed sensing system could be employed for highly selective detection of DA in the presence of interfering substances such as ascorbic acid (AA) and uric acid (UA). CV was carried out to characterize the electrochemical properties of the modified SPEs and the electrochemical behaviors of DA on the modified SPEs. Finally, according to the analysis of DPV responses of DA, the system could detect DA with a detection sensitivity of 0.52 ± 0.01 μA/μM and a limit of detection of 0.29 μM in the linear range of DA concentrations from 0.05 to 70 μM.Keywords:dopamine;conducting polymer;graphene;smartphone;electrochemical detection

A dual-conductive fiber has been engineered with a continuous “ion-electron” network. • The fiber achieves both a capacitance density of 633 F cm −3 and a strength of 247 ± 18.5 MPa. • The fiber supercapacitor shows a high energy density of 41.1 mWh cm −3 . • Supercapacitors have successfully powered a wristwatch, demonstrating their practicality. The rapid development of wearable electronics has created an urgent need for flexible energy storage devices that combine high energy density with fast charging and discharging capabilities. However, the poor intrinsic ionic transport properties of PEDOT: PSS severely limit the efficiency of charge storage and release. To address this critical challenge, this study constructed a highly efficient “ion-electron” dual-continuous synergistic transport network within one-dimensional fibers by regulating the doping concentration of the ionic liquid (EMIM: TFSI, IL) via a simple wet-spinning process. An appropriate amount of IL significantly induces PEDOT chain stretching and orientation, effectively shielding the PSS insulating regions, while preserving the long-lasting conductive network formed by single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) and the mechanical structure of the fibers. Experimental results demonstrated that the optimized PEDOT: PSS/SWCNT/IL-30 composite fiber achieved a synergistic improvement of record-high volumetric capacitance (633 F cm −3 at a current density of 3 A cm −3 ) and outstanding mechanical strength (247 ± 18.5 MPa). The fiber supercapacitor assembled from this composite fiber exhibited an ultrahigh volumetric energy density of 41.1 mWh cm −3 at a power density of 239.2 mW cm −3 . It retained 78.6% of its capacitance after 10,000 cycles at 7 A cm −3 , revealing excellent rate capability and cycling stability. Furthermore, the fibers woven into flexible fabric devices could power an electronic watch for nearly 50 min, demonstrating superior practical power-supply capability. By clearly elucidating the concentration–structure–property relationship, this study provides key insights and experimental evidence for the design of high-performance, weavable energy storage electrodes, which is of great significance for advancing the practical application of flexible wearable energy storage systems. This paper proposes a structural design strategy for synergistically constructing a dual-continuous “ion-electron” transport network. The fabricated PEDOT:PSS/SWCNT/IL-30 composite fiber achieves an ultra-high specific capacitance of 633 F cm −3 . The assembled symmetric fiber supercapacitor delivers a power density of 239.2 mW cm −3 at an energy density of 41.1 mWh cm −3 . The formation of ohmic contact between the carrier transport layer and the electrode is necessary for the high-performance solar cells. However, in the PEDOT: PSS/Si hybrid solar cells, the low conductivity of PEDOT: PSS and the high contact barrier between PEDOT: PSS and Ag electrodes result in high contact resistance, which inhibits the improvement of cell efficiency. In this work, the above two issues were improved simultaneously by simply introducing a MoO X interface layer between PEDOT: PSS and Ag electrodes. The detailed characterization and analytical results show that the quinoid structure of PEDOT: PSS films and the Mo 5 + with metallization electricity properties increased significantly due to the interaction between PEDOT: PSS and MoO X , reducing the resistivity of PEDOT: PSS. At the same time, the contact potential barrier was reduced due to the formation of MoO X /Ag composite electrodes with high work function (WF). In addition, the PEDOT: PSS/MoO X films with higher WF led to a higher built-in electric field. Due to these collaborative improvements, a PEDOT: PSS/Si solar cell with a high power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 15.02 % was achieved. This work provides a new idea to modify the interface between PEDOT: PSS and Ag electrodes for improving the PCE of PEDOT: PSS/Si hybrid solar cells.

Doping-electrostatic self-assembly strategy for polypyrrole membranes. • PSS doping increases chain spacing and enhances pure water permeance. • The PDDA/PSS polyelectrolyte interlayer suppresses random agglomeration of pyrrole. • The membrane achieves over 99% dye rejection with NaCl rejection below 10%. To address the challenge of balancing high dye rejection and high salt permeation in polypyrrole (PPy) composite membranes for dye/salt separation, this study proposes a synergistic regulation strategy combining doping and electrostatic self-assembly to fabricate a multilayer composite membrane. Using a polyethersulfone (PES) hollow fiber membrane as the substrate, the first separation layer was constructed via in-situ polymerization of pyrrole doped with poly (sodium 4-styrenesulfonate) (PSS). Subsequently, a polydiallyldimethylammonium chloride (PDDA) interlayer was introduced by electrostatic self-assembly, followed by a second in-situ polymerization of PSS-doped pyrrole, yielding the PDDA/PSS-PPy₂@PES composite membrane. The results show that PSS doping enhances permeate flux, while the introduction of the PDDA interlayer and the second polymerization improves rejection. The electrostatic self-assembly between PDDA and PSS suppresses random aggregation of polypyrrole and promotes the formation of a loose, continuous separation layer. The optimized composite membrane exhibits a pure water permeance of 72.5 L·m −2 ·h −1 ·bar −1 , and rejection rates of 99.99% for Congo Red (CR), Eriochrome Black T (EBT), and Direct Red 23 (DR23), and 99.27% for Methyl Blue (MB). In the CR/NaCl mixed system, the rejection of CR exceeds 99.99%, while that of NaCl is only 9.4%, demonstrating excellent dye/salt selective separation performance. This work provides a feasible route for tailoring the structure and performance of polypyrrole-based composite membranes via synergistic doping-electrostatic self-assembly , showing promising potential in the treatment of printing and dyeing wastewater and the dyes resource recovery. A flexible organic light-emitting device (OLED) was produced using copper nanowire (CuNW) film as anode and Graphene oxide (GO)/poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) film as anode buffer layer. Compared with other transparent conductive films (TCFs), CuNWs are low cost, easy to fabricate, and compatible with flexible substrates over a large area. Due to these advantages, CuNWs are showing greater and greater promise for the next generation of TCF. Modified by PEDOT:PSS, the conductivity and work function of the CuNW film can be dramatically enhanced. However, PEDOT:PSS is highly acidic and easy to corrode the CuNW film, which will reduce maximum luminous brightness and current efficiency of the OLED. In this paper, GO/PEDOT:PSS was used as anode buffer layer to modify the CuNW anode and the composite transparent electrode exhibited excellent optoelectrical properties. The driving voltage of the OLED with CuNW/PEDOT:PSS is 6.2 V, and the maximum luminous brightness is 2737.2 cd/m 2 . The driving voltage of the OLED with CuNW/GO/PEDOT:PSS anode was reduced to 5.1 V, and the maximum luminous brightness was improved to 3007.4 cd/m 2 .

Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxy thiophene): poly(styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT: PSS) is a hole transport layer (HTL) that is often employed in a diverse array of optoelectronic devices, such as perovskite solar cells and perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs). By simply doping lithium fluoride (LiF) into PEDOT: PSS, we demonstrate that the electrical characteristics of the HTL can be modified. Especially in quasi-2D perovskite LEDs, the crystallization process is regulated by LiF modification, leading to reduced phase impurity defects and improved carrier transport in the perovskite emission layer. Therefore, the luminance and efficiency of the quasi-2D PeLEDs are notably enhanced. The optimized PeLED with LiF modification exhibits a peak luminance of 21517 cd m −2 with 317% higher than the standard PeLED; and a high current efficiency of 39.8 cd A −1 with 237% higher than the standard PeLED. Moreover, the device stability is also improved with a nearly doubled half lifetime due to the reduced phase impurities. The work demonstrates a facile yet effective method for altering PEDOT: PSS hole transport layer, emphasizing the critical role of the underneath layer in the crystallization of quasi-2D perovskites.

In this research, PEDOT: PSS/Ag composite was successfully prepared by in-situ oxidation method, and the preparation conditions were optimized by adjusting the amount of APS and PSS . By utilizing FT-IR, XPS, TEM and ζ potential tests, the structure of PEDOT: PSS/Ag composite was characterized. Subsequently, the composite was coated on cotton fabric substrates through ink-jet printing to fabricate conductive coatings. To enhance the adhesion durability of conductive coatings, different dopamine (DA) solutions were further sprayed onto the surface of conductive coatings, and UV irradiation was used to initiate DA polymerization into polydopamine (PDA). For demonstrating the binding performance of PDA, The effects of solution pH, DA concentration and UV irradiation time on the coating durability to wash, friction and light exposure were measured and compared. The results indicated that the good polymerization of PDA on cotton fabric could significantly enhance the durability of conductive coatings to various external stimuli.

Flexible transparent conducting films (TCFs) have attracted more and more attention for their wide range of potential applications. PEDOT: PSS, as a conductive polymer, have been widely used in TCFs for its potential to boost electricity and maintain higher transmittance. While, there are many problems to be solved urgently in the application of PEDOT: PSS in TCFs. Carbon nanotube (CNT) with excellent electrical, thermal, and mechanical properties is also important material for making TCFs. In this study, films formed by PEDOT: PSS hybrid CNTs are prepared by a simple spin coating process. The purpose of this combination is that CNTs are helps to maintain the overall conductance of the nanocomposite films or inhabit degradation of film performance once PEDOT: PSS degrades due to water absorption and aging, while maintaining high transmittance and low resistance. The ratio of PEDOT to PSS and the internal morphology of the PEDOT: PSS are changed by a two-step method of methanol and acid, which are beneficial to greatly reduce the sheet resistance, lower the roughness, and enhance the adhesion. Various test samples were characterized, and results show that TCFs prepared by PEDOT: PSS hybrid CNTs treated by a two-step method exhibit enhanced properties. The best performance of the film was found to be 65 Ω sq−1@92 T%. High transmittance, super strong adhesion, low roughness (2.82 nm), low sheet resistance and high resistance stability are all achieved at the same time, which is a great advantage to use the films as electrodes in various fields, such as OLEDs.
