The contamination of chronic wound with bacteria especially methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is considered as the major factor interferencing normal wound healing. There still remain great challenges in developing safe and effective wound dressings with wide-spectrum antibacterial functions. Alginate hydrogel is a common dressing for wound treatment. Copper is one of the trace elements in human body with inherent antibacterial activity. Traditional methods for preparing a structure-controlled copper-alginate antibacterial matrix are difficult however, due to the fast and uncontrolled gelation between alginate and metal ions. In this work, we report an electrodeposition method for rapid fabrication of copper cross-linked alginate antibacterial films (Cu 2+ -Alg) with controlled structure and copper content, which is relied on an electrical signal controlled release of copper ions from the reaction of insoluble salt Cu 2 (OH) 2 CO 3 and the generated protons via water electrolysis on anode. The results prove that the physical structure and chemical composition of the electrodeposited Cu 2+ -Alg films can be continuously modulated by the imposed charges during electrodeposition. In vitro tests demonstrate the film has Cu 2+ content-dependent bactericidal activities. Film’s cytocompatibility is well controlled by the imposed charges for Cu 2+ -Alg fabrication. The MRSA infected wound model in vivo also indicates that Cu 2+ -Alg film can effectively eliminate bacterial infection and suppress host inflammatory responses. We believe this study demonstrates a convenient and controllable strategy to fabricate alginate antibacterial dressings with potential applications for infected wound treatment. More broadly, our work reveals electrodeposition is a general and simple platform to design alginate films with versatile functions.

To eliminate the problematic need for liquid phase, high temperature, and high pressure, as well as the excessive consumption of hydrogen and production of aromatic hydrocarbons, associated with traditional aviation oil preparation processes, Ni–Cu bimetallic catalysts were synthesized and evaluated for ex situ catalytic pyrolysis vapor upgrading of oleic acid under a N 2 atmosphere. The effects of catalyst support (AC, Al 2 O 3 , ZrO 2 , HZSM-5, HUSY, Hβ and MCM-41), pyrolysis process parameters (pyrolysis temperature, catalytic temperature and amount of oleic acid injected), and the mixing ratio of modified metals (Ni:Cu = 0:1,2,1:1,1:2,1:0) on the catalytic conversion of oleic acid to high-quality chemicals were studied. The catalysts were characterized by XRD , BET and NH 3 -TPD. Modified bimetallic catalysts show great potential for green diesel production without the use of H 2 feed. The abundance of Brønsted acid sites favors HDO routes (such as HZSM-5, HUSY, Hβ and MCM-41), while Lewis acid sites (such as ZrO 2 and Al 2 O 3 ) favor hydrogenation and decarbonylation reactions. The addition of Cu enhances the reducibility of Ni and inhibits the cracking reaction and deactivation caused by coke. The addition of Ni effectively promotes the conversion of oleic acid, accelerates the fracture of C–C and effectively improves the production of hydrocarbons. The highest conversion was 100% with 85.68% selectivity towards hydrocarbons under pyrolysis at 450 °C, a catalytic temperature of 500 °C, and a feed quantity of oleic acid of 0.25 ml/min using Ni–2Cu/MCM-41 catalysts, and the oxygen removal efficiency and selectivity of C17 hydrocarbon were the highest (85.68% and 26.77%, respectively). The main products were olefins . In addition, the regenerated catalyst had good stability and could be used for at least 3 reaction cycles without observation of significant deactivation.

In this paper, we first synthesis three-dimensional jasmine-like Cu@L-aspartic acid(L-ASP) inorganic–organic hybrid nanoflowers to load palladium-platinum nanoparticles (Pd–Pt NPs) as the signal enhancer in order to quantify intracellular speckle-type POZ domain protein. Scanning electron microscope, fourier transform infrared, energy dispersive spectrometer, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis was used to characterize the newly synthesized materials. The newly formed Cu@L-Asp/Pd-PtNPs can catalyze the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide and exhibit excellent catalytic performance. When different concentration of speckle-type POZ domain protein is captured by speckle-type POZ domain protein antibody linked to the surface of Cu@L-Asp/Pd–Pt NPs, the current signal decreases with the increase concentration of speckle-type POZ domain protein. After optimization, the speckle-type POZ domain protein immunosensor exhibited a good linear response over a concentration range from 0.1–1 ng mL −1 with a low detection limit of 19 fg mL −1 . The proposed sensor demonstrates good stability within 28 days, acceptable reproducibility (RSD = 0.52%) and selectivity to the speckle-type POZ domain protein in the presence of possible interfering substances and has potential application for detecting other intracellular macromolecular substances.

Novel Fenton-like catalyst HKUST-1(Cu)/MoS2-3-C with a non-equilibrium-state surface was constructed for selective degradation of phenolic contaminants. Electron-polarized distribution facilitated the formation of σ-Cu-ligand between electron-poor Cu centre and phenolic compounds, which not only enhanced radicals generation but also accelerated the Cu(I)/Cu(II) redox. Meanwhile, ≡Mo–OOSO3−complexes formed by the electron-rich Mo centre and peroxymonosulfate (PMS), could directly oxidize phenolic contaminants with the generation of SO4•−. The radical quenching experiments and EPR tests indicated that both SO4•−and•OH played a dominant role in the reaction. Additionally, O2could be reduced to O2•−by OVs and subsequently converted into1O2over the Mo centre. DFT calculation, FT-IR, and in situ Raman spectra analysis results demonstrated that phenolic compounds and PMS were respectively adsorbed by electron-poor Cu centre and electron-rich Mo centre, favouring the electrons transfer from phenolic contaminants to Mo centre for PMS activation. With synergistic effects of σ-Cu-ligand and ≡Mo–OOSO3−complexes, HKUST-1(Cu)/MoS2-3-C achieved a high degradation rate of phenolic contaminants and utilization efficiency of PMS.Keywords:fenton-like catalyst;non-equilibrium-state surface;σ-Cu-ligand;≡Mo–OOSO3−complex;phenolic contaminants degradation

Electrocatalytic reduction of nitrate (NO 3 RR) to ammonia is considered as a promising strategy for nitrogen resource recovery from nitrate-contaminated water. However, conventional Cu-based catalysts often suffer from poor selectivity, with toxic nitrite accumulation and sluggish reduction kinetics. This work reports a Cu Co co-loaded carbon catalyst (CuCo-C) that leverages electron-deficient Cu sites in synergy with Co to significantly enhance the NO 3 RR activity and ammonia selectivity. The optimized CuCo-C discloses a nitrate removal rate of 94 %, an ammonia selectivity of 99 % and multi-turn stability. The combination of comprehensive surface analysis and experimental techniques reveals that the high NO 3 − -to-NH 4 + performance results from Co-induced electronic modulation of Cu sites. This synergistic effect not only kinetically facilitate the adsorption and activation of NO 3 − but also enhance the selectivity of key intermediate (NO 2 − ) towards NH 4 + formation. Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations and synchrotron radiation-based XAFS measurements further reveal the presence of Co promotes the adsorption of NO 3 − (forming *NO 3 ), lowers the energy barrier for *NO 3 to *NO 2 deoxygenation and simultaneously suppresses the competing H 2 evolution reaction. Importantly, the presence of Co promotes the conduction of the electron reduction path by CuCo-C to generate NH 4 + . This work provides valuable insights for the rational design of high-performance Cu-based electrocatalysts for sustainable nitrate remediation and ammonia synthesis.

Herein, a novel sunlight-independent tribocatalytic system with efficient friction energy harvesting capability is proposed. This system demonstrates enhanced tribocatalytic performance of cerium oxide (CeO 2 ) nanoparticles driven by the friction between Cu coated on the glass beaker bottom and a Teflon (PTFE) magnetic disk. An apparent rate constant of 0.045 min −1 was achieved for methylene blue (MB) degradation, representing a 2.7-fold improvement over the CeO 2 @glass/PTFE system (0.01682 min −1 ). Notably, the system achieved > 90% degradation efficiency for high-concentration MB solutions (40 mg/L), surpassing the performance of previously reported tribocatalytic systems. Through multiscale tribo-interface characterization and radical trapping experiments, the synergistic catalytic mechanism was elucidated: Friction-induced charge carriers in CeO 2 are efficiently transferred via the interfacial electronic effects of the Cu/PTFE friction couple and the active surface with Ce 3+ /Ce 4+ redox couples. Electron paramagnetic resonance analysis confirmed that Cu coating modification on the surface of the beaker bottom enhanced hydroxyl radical (·OH) yield by 2.3-fold compared to glass, enabling complete pollutant degradation through hole (h + )-dominated oxidation pathways. This work transcends conventional catalyst modification strategies, establishing a new paradigm for interface engineering in mechano-chemical energy conversion systems.

In this work, a novel mixed-component bimetallic metal–organic framework (MOF) composite material was synthesized via a solvothermal approach, and its structural and textural properties were systematically characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), N2adsorption/desorption analysis, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Furthermore, the single-component adsorption isotherms of CO2and N2were experimentally measured and fitted to the Langmuir–Freundlich model. The CO2/N2selectivity of the composite was evaluated based on the ideal adsorption solution theory (IAST). The results demonstrated that the addition of Zn2+significantly enhanced the specific surface area and improved the CO2adsorption capacity (3.97 mmol/g at 35 °C and 1 bar), with an increase of 31.5% in comparison with the Cu-BTC/MCFs (3.02 mmol/g). Meanwhile, the Zn-Cu-BTC/MCFs had good recyclability and CO2/N2selectivity up to 12.5 determined via IAST (CO2:N2= 85:15).

Cyclopropane-based aerospace fuels exhibit the excellent volumetric calorific value, leading to broad application prospects in aircrafts. However, due to the highly rigid structure of the cyclopropane (compared to cyclobutane or cyclopentane, etc.) and the difficulty in forming metal-carbene intermediates, there are still significant challenges in the precise synthesis of multi-cyclopropane-based high-energy fuels ( ≥ 2 cyclopropane structures). Herein, via the introduction of bending strain on metal organic complex, we report a single-site Cu/single-walled carbon nanotube catalyst (Cu/SWCNT), which possesses 2.6-fold conversion (up to 77.4%) and 4-fold selectivity (up to 45.7%) as that without bending strain for the preparation of bi-cyclopropane-based fuels from dienes. XAFS and DFT calculations show that bending strain enhances the upward shift of d-band center of β electrons (−4.370 to −4.366), thus promotes the adsorption and activation of CH 2 N 2 and alkenes. Moreover, bending strain elongates Cu-O bonds (1.91 to 1.96 Å), making it easier for CH 2 N 2 to insert and form Fischer carbene intermediates. These two aspects obviously reduce the reaction energy barrier from 40.3 to 33.7 kcal·mol -1 for the cyclopropanation process. Our work provides a method of strain engineering to regulate C-C coupling reactions at the molecular level, and achieve highly efficient cyclopropanation from alkenes.

The thermally activated persulfate (PDS/thermal) system has been widely explored for removing refractory organic pollutants, yet its efficiency remains constrained by energy demand and limited radical generation. In this study, Cu(II) was introduced as a homogeneous catalyst to enhance carbamazepine (CBZ) degradation in the PDS/thermal process. Under optimal conditions (40 μM Cu(II), 1 mM PDS, 60 °C), complete CBZ removal was achieved within 20 min, with the pseudo-first-order rate increased by 62 % compared to the PDS/thermal system without Cu(II). Probe experiments and density functional theory (DFT) calculations verified that SO 4 •− , • OH, and high-valent Cu(III) jointly contributed CBZ degradation, with SO 4 •− remaining the predominant reactive species. Arrhenius analysis revealed a reduction in apparent activation energy by 22.11 kJ·mol −1 , further supporting the the catalytic role of Cu(II) in facilitating O O bond cleavage and radical production. UPLC-QTOF-MS/MS identified hydroxylation, epoxidation, and deacetylation as major transformation pathways, yielding products with generally lower or comparable toxicity relative than CBZ. Moreover, the Cu(II)-PDS/thermal system demonstrated strong adaptability to pH variations, background ions, natural organic matter, and diverse organic pollutants, and maintained high efficiency in real water samples. These findings highlight the synergistic role of Cu(II) in thermal persulfate activation and provide mechanistic and practical insights for its application in the remediation of pharmaceutical-contaminated waters.

A dual-phase copper-doped iron oxide nanozyme (Cu-α/γFO) was synthesized via a facile hydrothermal method for efficient organic pollutant degradation. The as-prepared Cu-α/γFO exhibits excellent peroxidase-like activity, degrading 99.5% rhodamine B (RhB) under optimal conditions (pH 4, 40°C) while retaining 40.73% of its initial activity after three cycles. Critically, it demonstrates broad-spectrum catalytic efficacy, efficiently degrading diverse organic dyes (e.g., cresol red, methyl violet, methylene blue), and retains high catalytic activity even in complex environments containing coexisting cations (K⁺, Ca²⁺, Mg²⁺), anions (H₂PO₄⁻, HCO₃⁻, NO₃⁻), or organic solvents (acetone, ethyl acetate). X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Raman spectroscopy confirmed the Cu-doping-induced α/γ-Fe₂O₃ phase crystal structure, while minimal copper leaching after 21-day aqueous storage validated structural integrity. The mechanism of enhanced peroxidase-like activity of Cu-α/γFO was proposed based on integrated characterization, including electron spin resonance (ESR), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and density of states calculations. Degradation pathways were elucidated using high-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS) identification of intermediates and theoretical calculations. This work presents a dual-phase engineering strategy through targeted metal doping, advancing high-performance nanozymes for sustainable environmental remediation.

Electrocatalytic hydrogenation (ECH) of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) to 2,5-bis(hydroxymethyl)furan (BHMF) is regarded as a green synthesis strategy for generating high quality bio-based chemicals. However, simultaneously regulating both the hydrogen (H) coverage and the adsorption behavior of HMF presents a significant challenge, particularly in unraveling the intricate structure–activity relationship and achieving a selective target product. Here, we enhance the availability of hydrogen (H*) and modulate surface electronic interactions with 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) to facilitate selective electrochemical hydrogenation (ECH) of HMF by introducing palladium as an auxiliary component. Pd–Cu dual sites synergistically enhanced H* supply and HMF activation while suppressing the competing hydrogen evolution reaction. The optimized electrocatalyst exhibits notable catalytic performance, attaining a selectivity of 99.3% and a faradaic efficiency of 97.5% for BHMF at a potential of −1.15 V (vs. Ag/AgCl). Density functional theory (DFT) calculations demonstrate that Pd doping is crucial for enhancing the adsorption of H* and HMF* intermediates, thereby promoting the hydrogenation of HMF through the Langmuir–Hinshelwood (L–H) mechanism under neutral conditions. This work establishes a catalyst design paradigm where atomic-level dopant engineering regulates multistep protonation kinetics, offering fundamental insights into biomass electrorefining.

Polyethylene terephthalate/copper (PET/Cu) composite foil, which combines lightweight, flexibility, and excellent electrical conductivity, exhibits promising potential for applications in flexible electronics, portable devices, and lithium-ion battery current collectors. However, achieving efficient and stable metallization of the PET substrate with robust interfacial bonding remains a significant challenge. In this study, an ultra-thin PET/Cu composite foil with excellent adhesion and conductivity was prepared through interfacial engineering. The fabrication process involves oxygen plasma etching, functional silane grafting, and electroplating. The prepared PET/Cu composite foil features a copper layer thickness of approximately 1 μm and presents the adhesion strength meeting the ASTM D3359 5B standard. Meanwhile, the foil achieves a minimum resistivity of 2.137 × 10 −8 Ω m. Compared to the pure copper foil, the PET/Cu composite foil exhibits a 44.89 % reduction in areal mass while maintaining exceptional electrochemical performance, revealing substantial prospects as the next-generation anode current collector for lithium-ion batteries.
